The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose is a great story. The plot is fun and twisty. All of the characters seem like they have something to hide. This makes for good red herrings that lead to a surprise ending I did not see coming! The narrators of the audiobook have great voices and made this an enjoyable listen.

Sarah is a criminal defense attorney; a partner at her firm. Her husband, Adam, is a writer. One who has been struggling to write. Then Adam is arrested for murder- his mistress was found dead in their bed at their vacation home. Sarah is now defending her husband- and she knows in order to save him, she has to find the real murderer.

This is a debut author. Overall, the story was good. Plenty of red herrings to keep your mind busy. The characters were awful- as in unlikeable. Not a likeable one in the bunch. But not so much that it kept me from reading. While I correctly guessed most of the mysteries, there was one that threw me for a loop.

I listened to the audio version of the book. There are two narrators since the book alternates POVs. While I wasn't impressed by either narrator, I also did not want to stab my eardrums. So I was pleased. It is more of a production thing, but the narration for Adam was a bit quieter. I found myself having to adjust the volume at times, when switching POVs. Overall, well paced, clear and easy to understand.

I think most readers will find this book enjoyable- in both print and audio. I am pretty critical when it comes to thrillers/suspense- it takes a lot to impress me, so three stars is a solid book in my opinion.

YES! YES! YES! I finished this book in one listen. I couldn't stop. It has been a hot minute since I enjoyed a thriller this much. It pulls all the stops, tricks, and twists. Fast-paced, great characters, and an altogether enjoyable read.

This book was definitely enjoyable! I liked the narrators, the pacing of the story was great, and I didn't guess the twist from the very beginning which is a plus!

I couldn’t stop reading this! It was a fast read with some really strange and off beat twists. I scratched my head a lot because some of it is just unbelievable and borderline too much. The ending was great and worth the read!

I listened to “The Perfect Marriage” as an audiobook, and a big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah Morgan is a brilliant attorney with a seemingly perfect marriage, and husband Adam is a sometimes struggling writer. Although everything seems perfect, their lives are blown open when Adam’s mistress is murdered and Sarah becomes his defense attorney,

The characters in the story are well written, and Jeneva Rose kept me guessing until the end. There were moments that were quite implausible, and a lot of of bad (and unnecessary) language and fairly explicit scenes. I don’t mind the odd F bomb but there were many!

I liked the narration, the fact that a male narrator read the part of Adam, and a female the part of Sarah. The story kept me listening and guessing until the very end. I am going to give this book 3 stars rather than 4/5 for the reasons listed above. Despite those reservations, this is a fun listen/read.

“Don’t call me Cubby Bear, Mom. I’m in JAIL.”

This is a wildly unrealistic, yet very entertaining domestic thriller/mystery. I have to mention that it’s unrealistic because, as a lawyer myself, I really couldn’t get past the premise of a wife defending her husband for murdering the woman he was cheating on her with. Girrrrrl, no. No one even mentions a conflict of interest until halfway through the book. So, if it’s a traditional legal thriller you’re looking for, this is not the book for you. However, once I decided to go with the premise, I found myself very entertained. There are some juicy suspects, good red herrings, and interesting and fun characters, not least of which is our heroine, Sarah — the county’s most famous female criminal defense attorney who has inexplicably decided to defend her sleazebag philandering husband.

The excellent audiobook performances, narrating for both husband and wife, really enhanced my enjoyment of this book. While not super intellectual or heavy on the accurate legal thriller details, this is a fun and devious portrait of a marriage gone wrong. I was entertained. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Dreamscape Audio for the advance listening copy!

The Perfect Marriage is a crazy domestic thriller that has the reader questioning everything.

Sarah Morgan is one of the best lawyers in Washington D.C. Sarah’s husband, Adam, is arrested for the murder of his mistress. Sarah is the only lawyer that has any chance of saving Adam. Is Sarah actually the best lawyer for this case? How will Sarah’s personal feelings affect the case? Is Adam guilty?

The Perfect Marriage grabbed my attention from the beginning. This story is so crazy. I was constantly trying to figure out if Adam was guilty or not. Adam is adamant that he had nothing to do with killing the mistress he loved. There are so many twists and turns throughout this book. I liked how Sarah’s personal conflict was brought up throughout the book along with the suspense. The Perfect Marriage is an excellent domestic thriller with so much drama and surprises.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Neil Hellegers and Teri Schnaubelt and loved the narration. They talked with so much emotion and were the perfect voices for Sarah and Adam.

Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audiobook of The Perfect Marriage.

This may look like a slam dunk case, but there’s more than meets the eye... much more. Sarah is a high powered defense attorney. Her husband, Adam is a struggling writer. Adam is having an affair and when his mistress turns up dead at their lake house, Adam is quickly arrested for her murder. Sarah is the only one that can save him, so she works diligently to do just that, but will it be enough? The dual voices in the audio worked well and it was a nice change to have Sarah and Adam tell their own stories. Filled with red herrings, twists and a host of unlikable characters, this book was a page turner, but it was also filled with an over abundance of offensive language and the ending left me cold.

I am very torn about this book.

The whole plot of a wife defending her husband during his murder trial is insane. I assume someone at least googled it and that it’s theoretically allowable, but I can’t imagine it really happens. Every interaction the main character has with her husband is unrealistic. Obviously I understand having read the end that she’s a sociopath, and that would have been a good explanation except that there is never any indication that this is the case because she doesn’t have any sociopathic interactions with anyone else, only where it involves the husband. I guess she’s a little weird and cold towards the other people but there’s never anything that would make you question her sanity. Even knowing the ending I can’t think of any indications. Just a small hint here and there would have helped the believability.

And then, what, turns out she did all this— killed the husband’s mistress, threw his trial, compromised evidence— all so that eleven years later she could marry her boss? Seems a little stupid.

That being said, even with how inane the plot was I really, truly enjoyed this book. The writing style was very compelling, it kept me guessing. I would definitely read more from this author I would just hope for a more realistic storyline next time.

Book 285 for the year! 4/5 stars for this adult mystery read. Great for fans of Gone Girl. Not my favorite cover, but it does fit the story. Love the dual narration! Lots of twists to keep you guessing! Definitely recommend!

Yes! This was a heart throbbing, pacey and juicy psychological suspense novel I needed!!!

Sarah's husband is accused of killing his mistress. And she's his lawyer. Even though Adam cheated on her on their 10th anniversary at the lakehouse where they were supposed to go together (can you believe that?!). But perhaps Sarah wouldn't have won the wife-of-the-year award when she blew off his request to spend time together at the lakehouse because, as usual, she's too concerned with advancing her career. Though at least she has one and isn't wasting her life away as a struggling writer like Adam.

This book was a compulsive listen. I'm so glad I picked up the audiobook version because the narration is expertly done, keeping me wanting to listen to just one more chapter. Not only is it packed with twists, but the final reveal absolutely blew me away.

As a passionate thriller lover, I enjoyed every bit of The Perfect Marriage and all its suspense, cheating, lies, betrayals, murder and relationship drama.

THE PERFECT MARRIAGE by Jeneva Rose is a story of a broken marriage & a legal thriller. so engaging & gripping- finished in 2 days! I’ll definitely have a ‘book hangover’ from this one. brief synopsis: Sarah is the best criminal defense attorney, while her husband Adam finds himself wrongly accused of murdering his mistress Kelly. legal thriller/mystery ensues, taking place somewhat in DC. often funny, occasionally sexy, & always thrilling! I developed a habit of predicting mysteries but couldn’t predict this one. so many well-developed characters culminate in an unpredictable ending. further, the author is absolutely delightful on bookstagram & also on tiktok. love when a debut is excellent from a fabulous author. thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy of THE PERFECT MARRIAGE, which is published in late December 2020!

💍 𝓜𝔂 𝓣𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼: This book was a @netgalley Audiobook Arc. I loved this book. There were so many twists and I thought EVERY ONE was guilty! The only thing I would change is the length - I felt a lot of the book could’ve been left out.

This was a good audiobook. The ending came out of leftfield. Just when you think you know the outcome, so many details come to light.

I'm going to be 100% honest here. This book was really good, but I don’t think it lived up to the hype. It didn’t help that I saw this advertised EVERYWHERE saying how amazing it was. I was hesitant to pick it up, but then NetGalley offered the audiobook and I was like yep!

The narrators were great. I would have loved to listen at speed 2.5 but whoever mixed the audio, it would have been too fast for the formatting. No big deal. But the narrators were great and I’m glad I got it on audio.

The story, however, was just okay. The ending didn’t shock me. In fact, I guessed ½ of the ending relatively early on… we’re talking first couple chapters. I only say that because I think I was expecting something crazy and was able to guess that crazy. Kind of the downside when you hear there’s a twist and your mind thinks of all the potential scenarios. Mine just happened to be the only one I stuck with and I was spot on.

I feel bad reviewing this so low. 3 stars usually is a dud to me, but this wasn’t a dud. I do think people will enjoy this a lot more than I did, just don’t go into it expecting the next Gone Girl or other legendary thriller that makes all the headlines.

LAST NOTE! I am excited to see this being made into a movie. Or is it TV show? Either way, I do think it’ll be perfect for the big screen.

The audio for this book is fantastic! I thought it was fantastic that we had both a female voice as well as a male for each part since the book is based on both Adam & Sara. I usually listen at 1.75 or 2 speed & it was stealth easy to follow & understand even after a faster speed. The book itself will keep you on the edge of your seat & is a great suspense novel! Totally recommend it!

What a freaking page turner. Book had me guessing from page to page and I never wanted to put it down. Literally did not see the end coming. At all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

HOLY TWIST! All along I thought I had known who did it, but little did I know I was wrong. The cliffhanger between chapters really got me too, because the next chapter doesn’t immediately pick up where the last had left off. I really liked this boom and will definitely look out for more books by Jeneva Rose in the future!

W.O.W.

This book takes you on one VERY wild ride and I don't even know where to start for this review, other than I loved it. I devoured it. I even set my alarm 45 minutes early two days in a row to get uninterrupted time to read it.

Jeneva Rose...well done! This story hooked me from the first chapter and when I was totally certain I had it figured out...like 100% positive I was right, she turned the story a different direction and I literally was left with my mouth open on the last page.

That rarely happens with thrillers anymore and I am SO excited to see an author bring back the true element of surprise.

I read the book earlier this year, but when I saw on the author's instagram that it was now offered on audio - I had to request it and I am SO GLAD I did! The narrator's voices were on point - almost exactly what I thought they would be as I was reading the book earlier this year.

THANK YOU Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC - I loved reliving this story!
