I chose this book for the cover and I was not disappointed in the story either.
We meet Sophie and Madelyn-May and a mysterious Lacy - and through the pages of the book we get to know them and their stories. As the storyline progresses, it twists and turns and winds its way through the secrets both women have in their pasts and their presents. And then the ending, wow, what can I say? Not one that I would have seen coming - leaves me wondering if a sequel will follow, and it will be one I would want to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me the chance to read this book.

WOW! I LIKED THIS ONE! A great thriller with so much twists and turns! It would have been 5 star rating but it confused me at first with all the different narrators. So I read in a questioning state for the first few chapters, but as it started picking up, I started understanding more and then I couldn’t stop reading! Another reason for 4 stars is the ending let me down. I wanted it to end with the happy ending and it did, so some won’t be disappointed with that, but there’s a twist at the end that you won’t be expecting and it will leave you with your mouth wide open in shock. I was literally doing this ➡️ 😲😲😲 in my mind. Even though it was a good twist, I would rather have just left that out and let it end in last chapter. But it’s really good either way. Just my particular preference....Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers of #TheSecretsWeKeep for the opportunity to read and review with my honest opinion.

There are so many emotions in this heartbreaking suspense. With Sophie, who's grieving the loss of her son and husband in a car accident, crippled with anxiety and afraid to leave her home. With Madeline-May, who suffered years of abuse as a child and now is a model mother on social media, but struggles to connect to her children in real life. Then there's Bastian, who feels like his wife is farther and farther away since the twins were born. In a strange stroke of coincidence, he is caught between both women in the story.
I read this in one day! The suspense kept building and I couldn't wait to find out what happens next!
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

The Secrets We Keep is a very intense, moving story with several twists. Very hard to put down, and hard to stop thinking about. The story tells of two women whose lives are very different and how they intersect. Give yourself enough time to finish this at one sitting because you won't want to put it down.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. The review is my honest opinion.

This book will definitely stay with you long after you put it down. Secrets can fester and cause damage in so many ways. Sophie and Madelyn-May are two women with life altering secrets. This is a character driven tale full of suspense and at times a very heartbreaking read. Trigger warning of child abuse and sexual abuse. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Secrets we Keep by Nikki Lee Taylor is a suspenseful story about how secrets from the past can destroy our current life. This story details the events of 2 women, Madelyn-May and Sophie and how their lives intersect. Madelyn-May seems to have it all. She is a highly successful blogger who seems to have the perfect life. However, things are not as they seem in her life. She has a secret, painful past which will eventually catch up with her. Sophie is essentially a shut-in, grieving the loss of her husband and son. She has limited interactions with anyone and works at home and enjoys the attention of her boss, Bastian and her dog, Miss Molly. There are many unexpected twists and turns in this story. It will keep you guessing. This book is suspenseful until the very end with unexpected events. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is certainly a book that will keep you engrossed to the very end!.
A storyline that is full to the brim of twists and turns throughout, so much so that at times it was rather difficult to keep up!.
Touching on a variety of difficult subjects in a sensitive, empathetic way, along with supplying each of the characters with their own strengths and weaknesses, this is certainly an intriguing read from the start and one in which I am sure others would enjoy too.

This is a difficult novel to rate, for me. I felt the first half of the book introduced too many characters without allowing us to see their connections, and as such I felt very disconnected from the characters and story.

The second half was much better, when the number of points of view narrowed to 3 and I understood how these women fit into each others’ life.

This book would be categorized as a drama. Everyone has BIG secrets and everyone is desperately trying to keep them hidden. The characters were not relatable to me, but the emotions each of them felt were familiar. Overall, it was okay but nothing I would encourage someone I know to read.

I am in two minds with this review as I started reading the book as the cover drew me in and the premise sounded great and reminded me of the book Disclaimer by Renee Knight when a manuscript that mirrors truth and a dark secret comes to light and the spiraling rabbit hole of the mystery and thrill that comes with separating the manuscript and the reality of the truth. However, as I got reading it, I found myself struggling a bit as the book for me was a bit too slow-paced as I love to have my books fast-paced otherwise I read it and I find my mind wandering and myself getting distracted and losing interest in the story which is what happened with me as I struggled to read the remainder of this story. I also found the characters hard to connect with as we had Sophie whose husband and child in an accident but she seemed intent on wallowing but not and she felt too pity-party for my liking and then her boss Madelyn-May just rubbed me up the wrong way and reminded me of Meryl Streep's character in the Devil Wears Prada and it's like Hello, you are the boss of a freaking parenting blog yet you are a stuck-up cow. Overall, though this book does touch on some edgy topics like child abuse etc and to those who find this area triggering will find The Secrets we Keep a heartwrenching read and how sometimes secrets can destroy someone's life in a single heartbeat and it does make you reflect and wonder whether is the truth always the best option?

3.5 stars.

The premise is interesting and the end made me cry (always a good sign in a book), but I found it really hard to believe that Sophie would donate eggs to Madelyn-May and then wind up sleeping with her husband years later. Yes it could happen (in a small town maybe), but just a little too convenient for my liking.

I also found it hard to believe that Madelyn-May wouldn't change her name after what happened. Her name is quite distinct, so didn't she think it would be possible to trace her. Yes, she was only 15 so maybe didn't think people would be looking for her but murder and arson? You better believe that everyone would be trying to find her if only to see if she knew anything.

There were also some rough bits in the writing, but I'm sure those things will be caught before publication.

This novel had quite a few twists and turns -- so many that it strains credibility -- but the twists are so juicy that I couldn't stop reading. The book touches on so many sources of pain -- addressing each with intelligence, empathy, and humanity. The author builds strength into each of her characters and helps us see different sides to them -- what are their motivations? However, the book never becomes preachy -- the whole way through, and especially at the end, it is a true thriller in women's fiction. Bastian is a kind character, and serves as a great sounding board, but this book really is about two women and their respective children. Parts are hard to read through, but it is a solid book and worth the exploration. The novel starts out with what seems like two people wholly unrelated and living separate lives but their paths converge in ways that are delicious for the reader. I want to read more from this author. Recommended reading!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions above are my own.

Sophie works at home as an editor and tries to live her solitary life after the tragic death of her spouse and child. Madelyn-Mae overcame a horrific childhood to become a successful mom blogger even though she barely spends any time with her own husband and children. Bastain who is Madelyn's husband and Sophie's boss is caught between his two worlds-work and taking care of his family and his new relationship with Sophie that goes beyond that of boss/employee.
But what do Madelyn and Sophie have in common besides loving the same man? How did Madelyn who was unable to have children go on to give birth to twins? What does Sophie have to do with Madelyn's children? All this and more was slowly uncovered in this suspenseful drama that races to an interesting conclusion.
