Hope Between the Pages was beautifully written and stirs emotions with each turn of the page! The love story was captivating and heartwarming! I loved how the stories tied together and the characters were exceptionally written. I hate crying books, but the emotions were real and raw and needed for this one.

Hope Between the Pages is a beautifully written story of the forbidden love of a house maid, a society young man and their love of books. The story of Sadie Blackwell and Oliver Camden the war that that tears them apart after only being together for a short time. The hatred his mother has for Sadie because of her low position in society. What Sadie goes through to ensure that her beloved Blackwell's the bookstore she opened with Oliver's help would never leave her family. Pepper Basham writes a beautiful story that goes between America and England. She tells the story of forbidden love and how a man in high society gave away everything he would inherit for the
life he wanted with the women he wanted. Enter Clara Blackwell Sadie's great granddaughter and the keeper of Blackwell's along with her mother. They could lose it all because of greed. Ms. Basham shows us that Clara will fly to another country and away from her ill mother to prove Blackwell's is theirs. Yet on this trip of finding some long lost family and also the life of her great grandmother Clara finds the love of a man she never thought she would find. All because of Granny Sadie and Oliver Camden.
I've always loved any story that centers around old time stories and the present. The English countryside was so vivid in this writing. The story of Sadie's castle where she lived with Oliver those few short weeks. The horror of losing the love of her life and the terrible words from Oliver's horrible mother broke my heart and really felt terrible for Sadie and all that she lost. Max and Clara reminded me of Sadie and Oliver and the dreams they wanted to come true. I loved traveling with Clara to find out the truth and know that Sadie did so much more that run a bookstore. Read this book and find out all about Sadie and her loves.
Thank you netgalley and Barbour Books for approving me for this book. I loved it. Ms. Basham thank you for a beautifully written story and letting me into the life of a wonderful women and her family. I look forward to you next book.

The stories of Sadie Blackwell, a maid who cares for the Biltmore Estate's library in 1915, and her granddaughter Clara Blackwell, present-day owner of Blackwell's Bookshop, are told in alternating chapters, with each storyline revealing subtle clues about the other. (This kept me turning pages faster than I have in a long while!) When Clara's ownership of the bookshop is challenged, she must step out of her comfort zone to search for the missing documentation. Along the way, she pieces together missing pages of her family's history--and finds more than a few surprises.
I have read many books this year, but this was, hands-down, my absolute favorite! I connected with both Sadie and Clara immediately and quickly became invested in their stories. Through the author's deft use of sensory detail, I experienced the grandness of the Biltmore, felt the coziness of the bookshop, and motored along a narrow lane in the English countryside. I loved being with the characters in these places so much, I want to visit each one. I will be in search of more books by this author!
I received a free e-copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. My opinions are completely my own.

What an enjoyable read! I'm rather new to dual timeline novels and was not impressed the the one or two I had read before this one. Hope Between the Pages is beautifully written and has renewed my interest in this genre of Christian fiction!
The story switches between two timelines: modern day, where we meet a struggling bookstore owner who is trying to solve a mystery and find a document that could change her life forever, and WWI era, where we are introduced to a couple who must decide if love can bridge the gap between the class distinctions of that time.
Keep in mind, it is not always easy to re-adjust your mindset each time the story goes back and forth between the timelines in any book with this format. However, this book is well worth the effort! There's many sweet, poignant moments right off the bat when we are introduced to the Library Fairy and the Book Goblin, and they immediately cause you to be invested in the romantic relationship. There's also a mystery that will keep you guessing! Add bit of wartime home front drama, with conflict that stems from class distinction, and then finding love in unexpected places in modern day, and it adds up to a great read! All in all, a very enjoyable book that I recommend investing your time in reading!

Oh my gosh. Wow. This book had me feeling every feeling possible. It is so beautifully written and hits the heart in all the right ways. I had never read anything by Pepper Basham, never even heard of her until recently, but oh my goodness I am a fan. I love the Biltmore setting in the past, the whole rags to riches story is just beautiful. And the present day story with Clara is lovely. The sense of mystery, while sometimes knowing before Clara and Max what is happening has your heart racing. I stayed up late finishing this book and woke up still thinking about it. The class divides back then were real and hard to read, as was everything related to WW1, but it feels realistic. Clara's unexpected trip to England had me remembering my months living in Derbyshire, and Basham does an exquisite job describing how England the English countryside can look like a fairytale sometimes. I am so in love with this book. I'm telling everyone to read it because it's one of my favorites from this year. I cried multiple times. Seriously, your heart will be a mess by the end, but you will also feel so good.

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham was a delight to read. The story goes back and forth between present time and the early 1900's.
Clara Blackwell and her mother live in Asheville, NC where they own a bookstore that has been in the family since the early 1900's when Clara's great-great grandmother, Sadie Blackwell, opened it. Sadie worked at the Biltmore Estate as a maid. This is where she met a guest, Oliver Camden and they developed a relationship.
Questions regarding ownership of the shop develop which leads Clara to England where she seeks more details about Sadie and Oliver's family. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.

Hope Between the Pages was such an wonderful and extraordinary read. Ms. Pepper Basham is a new author to this reader and I found this book a delightful and at times heart-tugging story.
This is a story about a age-old family bookstore and about the two heroines finding love and overcoming obtacles to be with the ones they love no matter what is dealt them in life. You will read about Sadie the librarian and her great-granddaughter Clara struggles to keep the family bookshop, Blackwells from failure. I enjoyed how the story alternated between both characters and their journeys, It is well-written showing the love and tenderness of the characters. Once I started the read, it was hard to put this book down as it was a page-turner for me. This story really tugged and my heart and I was close to tears. The characters in the story were very likeable and I enjoyed both Sadie and Clara Blackwell and their journey encompassing the Biltmore and England all to save the family bookshop. I too enjoyed Sadie and Oliver and Clara and Max and how they are drawn together as soulmates in the hopes of healing.
I can't say too much to give this book the justice that it really deserves because there is so much to enjoy about this story. It is indeed wonderfully written and not having experienced reading any other novels by Ms. Basham...I definitely intend to do so in the future. Highly recommend this read...you won't be disappointed.

This is a story about saving a family bookstore, but it is so much more, it is about finding your soulmate. Two people who are destined to be together, no mater the distance, no mater your lot in life, the sparks are there.
A beautifully written tale of love and loss, so tender that you will be trying hard not to cry, but we follow theses loves and others throughout the century as they touch so many.
I loved the setting of Sadie Blackwell's portion, Biltmore, can you imagine staying there? Better yet, falling in love with one of the guests, a forbidden love, but beautiful.
The next love, is Clara Blackwell, and her journey to save her great-grandmother's bookshop, with her odyessy taking her back to Biltmore, and England.
We are not only given those love's that only come along once in your life, but we journey to find a deed, and with this mystery comes danger. Who actually owns the bookstore? Come along as we look for answers, and surprises!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

I don’t know if I can go justice to this book. It utterly destroyed me in the best of ways. I’ve never been the biggest fan of split time books, but this was SO good. The heartbreak you absolutely knew was coming just wrecked me. I’ll admit: as a Special education teacher during the COVID pandemic, I’m burnt out. So a lot of really sad, deep, or whatever books I just can’t get into. I just need a happily ever after, preferably in a light story. But this was not, and I could not put it down.
Read this book. Seriously. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but I am going to go get myself a paperback copy because it is beautiful!

This book had so many profound thoughts. I loved the different characters that played such a vital part in each others lives throughout the generations. How the past and the present were linked through experiences and family. The similarities between Sadie and her great granddaughter Clara. Also the men they fall in love with, are two of a kind. There is definitely hope between these pages. This is a wonderful book that I would highly recommend reading.

Who doesn’t love a book about books and a bookshop?!
This story is told in dual time lines, each other just as interesting. You can’t help but fall in love with Sadie &Oliver and their story. There’s a bit of a mystery in the book too.
I really enjoyed this book.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

I am a little surprised how much I enjoyed this story. My favorite genre has always been historical fiction. This was historical, but also a double romance and a mystery thrown in as well. But I found it a very enjoyable read. I have been several times to the Biltmore House in N.C. Now I want to go and see it at Christmas. It also made me curious to do some research about the Vanderbilt family. I rather enjoyed the split time aspect of the story. It was a bit predictable, but that did not spoil my enjoyment of a story well-told. I enjoyed the peek into England as well.
Thanks to NetGalley for opportunity to read this book. #NetGalley

Hope Between the Pages is a lovely story for a book lover looking for a sweet romance. This is the second installment (standalone) in the Doors to the Past series and I am so excited that this was another enjoyable read. Thank you to the publisher for the eARC.
Clara Blackwell is running a small bookstore in Ashville, NC and living a very narrow lifestyle. Her father has passed away and her mother is ill. She has spent her years with books or taking care of her ailing parents, never really seeking out a life of her own. The discovery of a letter and a fight to maintain a hold on what is rightfully hers leads her to an adventure beyond her wildest dreams. Hope Between the Pages alternates between Clara's story in present day and a past romance that is both powerful and sweet.

What a wonderful book! This book hooked me on the first page and didn't let go. It is a beautifully written time slip novel that once you start reading it you can't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Historical fiction. It was an absolute joy to read. Thank you Barbour Publishing, Inc. via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham. Barbour Publishing, Inc., 2021.
This wonderful book tells two stories, one each of Sadie and Clara and their shared love of books and reading. In 1915, Sadie works in the Biltmore Library at the fabulous Vanderbilt estate, she meets Oliver and falls in love. Over a century later in the same North Carolina town, Sadie’s great granddaughter Clara struggles to keep Blackwell’s, the family bookshop. As the story alternates between Sadie and Clara, we see that each has developed a special approach to identifying books that readers will enjoy. Searching through property records takes Clara from the home she shares with her mother, to the Biltmore estate, to Camden House B&B in England’s Lake District, following Sadie’s much earlier path.
Barsham is particularly adept at weaving the two stories together while keeping each easy to follow. Sadie tells her story in the first person, while Clara’s is relayed in the third. Her descriptions of the settings are amazingly visual - we can smell the books in the Biltmore Library as Sadie peeks out through upper stacks to see whether visitors accept her recommendations. And we are with Clara through dusty attics and outbuildings in the Lake District. And spend time with both on village streets.
There is everything to enjoy about this book. Warmly recommended – it is a lovely read.

This dual-line novel is a sweet love story paired with a modern mystery. Clara Blackwell runs the family bookstore in Asheville, NC while her ancestor Sadie works as a maid at the Biltmore Estate in the early 1900s. When Clara suddenly needs to find the deed proving her family owns the building housing the bookstore she uncovers secrets in her family history.
A light and entertaining novel that required some suspension of disbelief. Certain characters "act out of character" in order to provide key clues to unravelling the family history and evidence serendipitously appears. But an engaging book nevertheless.

A Must Read "Spell-binding" Story
"Hope Between the Pages" by Pepper Basham
You really do NOT want to miss reading this story. It is a spell-binding story interweaving the past with the present. A true romance story from beginning to end with all the heartache life can deliver and plenty of the joys of life too. WARNING: if your eyes tend to leak when reading a really good story.. Bring Tissues to your reading sessions. There is so much I want to say… but I want you to read this story with no preconceived notions/expectations other than 'This is a really well written multi-generation historic-contemporary clean sweet story of true love. Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the publisher. This review is my honest unbiased opinion.

I've read my fair share of time-split novels but this one was absolutely spellbinding. I fell in love with both protagonists (Sadie and Clara) and I loved following the parallels of their stories. Despite knowing some aspects of the ending of Sadie's story given Clara's historical discovers, I found that I was still surprised and captured in the moment. What I thought would be the end was definitely not the way things went.
I loved Oliver's character and I found Max to be very endearing and original. I had to warm up to Clara's vintage style, but she was too likable to have her obsession be too annoying. I loved that Sadie's perspective was told in first person and Clara's was told in third, as I feel that this distinction allowed me to really get into Sadie's story even if I felt like I knew the end of her story (which I really didn't).
There were some great plot points and pretty good villains, though I would have liked to have seen Uncle Julian more fleshed out. I feel like he didn't really have a purpose of any kind aside from being Clara's hidden adversary in her search for the deed to Blackwell's.
Overall, great story from Pepper Basham. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an eARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A lovely dual timeline that takes you to Sadie who is in charge of the 1915 Biltmore Estate library as one of her many duties there, and Clara who in the present time, is on a quest to save her bookshop as soon as she finds the deed. Each woman is trying to solve their own mystery. When you add in a 100 year old letter and a trip across the ocean, you will find you can't put this book down. I found this book extremely well written, very descriptive from a historical and tourist view. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham is a dual timeline historical fiction novel which is part of the ‘Doors to the Past’ series. The very first line of Hope Between the Pages sums it all up beautifully: "Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale." For a book lover like me, Ms. Basham had me at library.
The dual timeline story finds the reader moving between the story of a young bookstore owner in present day and the story of a woman who worked for the Vanderbilt’s at their Biltmore Estate Library in 1915.
Ms. Basham uses the dual timeline extremely effectively to pull together the pieces of the past and the present to create a mysterious and heartwarming family story that needs to be unraveled. I was very pleased with Ms. Bashams use of beloved childhood fairy tales and her reverence for classic books. There are so many parts of this story that are a Bibliophile’s dream!
The romances that spring out of this story are sweet as well as surprising.
Hope Between the Pages has everything a good story needs. It has endearing and memorable characters, beautifully descriptive settings and captivating story lines.
This is my first book by Pepper Basham but I can assure you it won’t be my last.
Well done!
