Pepper Basham is a relatively new author for me, but she is quickly becoming a fave. The locale of her books I’ve read so far, the Blue Ridge Mountains, seems to be a beckoning finger to many a reader.
And the Biltmore Estate of Asheville, North Carolina? A magnificent structure at any time, but especially while the Vanderbilts still resided there in 1915. Plus, a look at it today, in addition to a quaint village in England, and how can any self-respecting history buff not be in total love? Great scenic descriptions of topography, the beauty of architecture, and the wonderful unveiling of unforgettable, relatable personalities make this novel a must-buy. What avid reader wouldn’t fall in love with sweet, nurturing Sadie, who sees books as “portable adventures”? And it is impossible not to fall in love with either Oliver or Max. They are so incredible in their tenderness and care. Mystery, forbidden romance, split-time presentation, and the true “hope between the pages” are presented for those who are eager to mine the book’s deepest meanings. I felt the need to rise and applaud Basham at the end of the novel. So well-crafted and executed.
I received a copy of the book from the author and publisher through Celebrate Lit. All thoughts are my own and are voluntarily submitted.

Wonderful story and beautifully written- 5-Stars

If you are looking for a tender historical romance, you’ve found it. This is the story of Clara Blackwell and her great-great-grandmother, Sadie.
Set in dual time frames, Sadie Blackwell, a servant at the magnificent Biltmore Estate in North Carolina at the turn of the twentieth century, has fallen for a wealthy guest of Mrs. Vanderbilt.
Sadie is the caretaker of the Biltmore Library. There she unexpectedly meets a British guest, Oliver Camden, and for them, the love of literature sees no barriers between rich and poor.
Present-day, Third generation ownership, Clara Blackwell, is in danger of losing the family’s bookshop in Ashville’s Biltmore Village. Secrets about the bookshop will take Clara on a journey to England to find out the truth of Sadie’s ownership of Blackwell’s Bookstore, while also finding a bright path to her future as well.
I have so much to say about this wonderful book and I must stop before I give something away!

Hope Between the Pages" is a touching novel- written with grace and the understanding of how social class in one era, and imperfection in another, can bring out the best in people through love. I highly recommend this book!
Thank you, NetGalley, Pepper Basham, and Barbour Books for the ARC.

“I understood God’s presence then as I never had before.”

I loved this fabulous Christian historical / time slip novel; it is my favorite so far this year! It is the second novel I’ve read by this master storyteller and will not be the last. Second in Barbour Fiction’s newest multi-author series, Doors to the Past, each book is a standalone. My words are insufficient to describe this adequately. The prose sings a unique ballad that can bring to life to even the most weary, hidden imagination. The characters are endearing, revealed through realistic conversations and actions, and descriptions of the various settings is the making of dreams.

This is the story of Sadie, who was a library maid at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, in 1915. Her mother had worked there for years. When she passed away, Sadie was given her final position. Sadie’s story is told from her perspective, as the legacy begins with her.

This is also the story of her great-granddaughter, Clara. She works in the present day at the family bookstore, Blackwell’s, originally opened and managed by Sadie. In the hope of saving the bookstore, Clara goes to any length, from the Biltmore and all the way to England. Her story is told in third person.

Clara’s father inherited the bookstore and property from his Granny Sadie. He passed away a year ago, she and her mother needed to transfer the deed in Clara’s name. Their attorney discovered that the deed had never been transferred from Sadie to her grandson when she passed away, so they must find the deed to get through the paperwork. Clara called several people to find out about the deed, including the descendent of the man who originally owned the property.

Julian, an attorney and Clara’s father’s half-brother, has made no secret that he is angry he did not inherit the bookstore. He is representing the descendent of the original property owner to either make a bare bones settlement for the bookstore and property if Clara and her mom leave quietly, or they will take her to court in two weeks, charge 100 years of rent, and take the property. She has only a short window of time to find it, with the help of her ailing mom, her cousin Robbie, and the owner of an estate in England. What she finds is the story of Granny Sadie that is so beautiful, so incredible, that Clara might even believe again that she can have a story of her own. There may be someone in each generation who is hate-filled and destructive, but the love and power of God far outweighs their efforts.

For the one who loves libraries, bookstores, early 1900’s history, classical literature, mysteries, and England, be prepared to step into a world you might be completely captivated by. It is a world of the love and direction of the Lord, of fairy tales and classic love stories, and a love strong enough to survive even the hardest times. I highly recommend this to women of all ages who enjoy Christian time-slip novels, libraries and bookstores, and the magic of finding one’s true love.

From a thankful heart: I received an ARC of this novel from Celebrate Lit, Barbour Fiction, and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! Yes I am shouting. There are so many wonderful aspects to Hope Between The Pages by Pepper Basham.. The story gives us past and present tied together, love that overcomes tragedy, a mystery that changes live's and all set in beautiful locations. I am a FOBH. That's Fan of Biltmore House for those of you that might not know. I have my season pass and travel to Asheville frequently to visit this beautiful estate. It is nearly impossible to not imagine love stories taking place when you are walking through the grand halls and beautiful rooms of Biltmore. So when I realized this book was set at the turn of century at Biltmore I was beyond excited! I am so pleased that the author was accurate in her descriptions of the beautiful halls and gorgeous rooms and also of the legacy left behind by the Vanderbilt's.. They were known to have treated their staff as family. My only problem was the occasional reference to THE Biltmore. Any true Biltmore fan knows there is no THE in front of Biltmore.
The story follows a family trying to save their local bookstore set in Asheville North Carolina. As the search for the deed becomes desperate the characters of Biltmore in 1915 start to play out. The romance between a maid and a wealthy visitor set the stage for a wonderful story that had been lost in time.. The descriptions of the countryside, not only in North Carolina but later on in England, were astounding! I truly hope that I can travel to the part of England Basham writes about. And I would love to stay at the bed and breakfast! If you are a fan of travel, romance and mystery you should definitely read this book. It is well written and well-researched.

Wow, what a wonderful story! This book has quickly become one of my favorite reads so far this year. Pepper Basham did a great job with the transitions and connections between the present day story and the historical story. I loved the characters in this novel very much and immediately felt myself drawn to them in the book. Clara and Sadie are both remarkable women, with gumption and grace, brains and beauty, and courage and kindness. I loved the romance in this novel as well. The romantic partnerships came together through struggles and realistic hardships and this made their relationships even stronger. I felt their love extended beyond simply a physical attraction and there is no doubt in my mind that these characters established a love that withstood any trial in the future. The spirituality woven among the pages was very well done! And, of course, I loved the central theme that books played in this novel. The mystery to the story made it interesting. I had a hard time putting the book down! I greatly enjoyed this book and look forward to more by this author!

I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from Celebrate Lit Tours. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Hope Between the Pages by gifted wordsmith Pepper Basham is a Christian historical dual time page turning novel. Set in Biltmore Estate and Village, it centers around a century old love letter and a bookstore. Put all of those things together and you have a wonderful book that will grab your attention early and keep it throughout the entire book.

This is the tale of 1915 Biltmore guest, Oliver Camden, and its library care worker, Sadie Blackwell. Present day we meet Clara Blackwell, Sadie’s great-granddaughter, and sleuth trying to solve a family mystery. These characters are endearing, and I soon became invested in their lives. I found a few other unsavory characters in this story, too. All characters were well rounded and believable.

Author Basham has added twists, turns, and surprises along with a mystery and sweet romance. The faith element is evident and not hidden. I love that! There are spiritual and timeless life lessons in this captivating novel. Having been to Biltmore, it was especially nice to read a story set there.

I highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved so much about it. It would make a great book club selection. I give it a 5 out of 5 star rating. Celebrate Lit provided a copy but these are my honest words.

This is the best book I have read so far this year and It was my 92nd one. Absolutely loved it. I started it around 8pm and read until 10pm then finished the next morning. I loved everything about it. The dual time line, the mystery of Sadie and Oliver, the historical aspect and the characters. Totally engrossing. I didn’t want it to end but I couldn’t wait to see how it did! I finished it then got online to research this author and found this is book two in a series. I have already emailed my colleague at the library I work with and asked her to buy this series. I think our patrons will love it! I also shared it on Facebook in two groups and my own page. Several friends have said they will look for it. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy! If I could I would give it 10 stars!

Hope Between the Pages is a fantastic, time slip story. I’ve long enjoyed Pepper Basham’s writing and this book is no exception.

Written from the viewpoint of two long separated relatives, we see the life of Sadie Blackwell, the housemaid who cares for the books at the incredible Biltmore estate in North Carolina, and Clara Blackwell, who runs the family bookstore, founded by her great grandmother, Sadie.

Clara’s life revolves around keeping the store afloat after a bigger chain moves into town. Meanwhile back in the early days of World War II, Sadie fights to maintain propiety and not fall in love with a handsome and charming British visitor to the estate.

The desperate hunt for some missing paperwork sets Clara on a path that reveals Sadie’s secret past and a love that reached across class and ocean divides. The beautiful and heartfelt relationship between Sadie and Oliver will hit even the mildest romantic right in the chest. And that’s before you get to Clara and Max. She’s on a journey of discovery, and he didn’t expect to find love waiting to be collected at the airport.

Hope Between the Pages is a generational triumph. I chuckled, sighed and teared up, Days after finishing it, the depth of several scenes is still with me. There’s no greater accomplishment as a writer than having the echoes of your story linger. This book is highly recommended.

Love is powerful. It has the strength to change hearts, restore broken lives, bring healing from grief, and provide courage to push us beyond our self-defined limits. Love makes us brave. And hope inspires our imaginations.

Honestly, I'm at a loss of how to put together my review. This book is so beautiful written and touched me in a the right ways that I fear I may not do justice to the story but let me try.
You know when you read a story and it's just right. That's how I felt when I was done with this story.
From the start of the story, I wanted to know more both about Clara and Sadie. This legacy that spanned through decades but yet nothing was really known and I found out and I fell in love with them. Both Heroines for stepping out of their comfort zones and following their dreams even in the midst of struggles and heartaches at times, they lived.
I loved Oliver for not conforming to the norms expected of him but living life to the best of his ability and standing up for what he believed despite the sometimes harsh consequences. And Max, quiet simple but he understood Clara's heart and gave her the best gift. Helping her find out more about her family band just being the perfect hero.
This book is definitely one that will stay with you long after you're done because it leaves you with the reminder that your dreams are valid and they matter.

What I Loved:
Hope Between the Pages is a love story to every novel ever written. There’s a lot here that ranks high on my list of must-haves in a great book. A dual-timeline, for one, is always a win for me. But so is a trip to England, a brooding male with a tender heart, and unanswered questions. To top it off with a message for the soul makes it even better.
The story was bittersweet at times but it was also inspiring. The way Sadie lived her life and the legacy she left behind is something to aspire to. Here’s one of my favorite quotes:
“Keep to your Bible and to your fairy tales, sweet girl. One is for your soul and the other is for your daydreams.”
This is a sweep-you-off-your-feet romance, with 2 love stories in one book to enjoy.

Rating and Recommendations: I’m giving Hope Between the Pages 5 stars. I recommend it to Christian romance fans, especially those who enjoy dual-timelines or traveling to England.

Hope Between the Pages is the first book I have read by Pepper Basham, and it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed this novel in which we follow Clara in the present day and her great-grandmother Sadie in 1915 and 1916. I enjoyed getting to know both women and how their lives are connected, especially since Clara knows very little about her great-grandmother Sadie except that she opened the bookstore that she now works in. I enjoyed discovering along with Clara more about her past and her family's history, especially how things are not what they seem.

I also enjoyed watching Sadie's story unfold and I was satisfied for the most part with how her story concluded, although it was bittersweet. But I love how there was so much depth to her besides what Clara already knew. I also enjoyed getting to know Clara, but I wish more background information had been given for her. However, I did enjoy the sweet romance that she gets to be apart of.

My only complaint is that the ending felt a bit rushed, especially with why a certain character does the things that he does to the point of hurting his own family (I'm not going to elaborate because it could potentially be a spoiler). I felt like he was left one-dimensional and I would have loved to know more of his motives behind his actions.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book which was part mystery and part romance and part historical fiction. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, clean romance, a little bit of mystery and any one who enjoys dual timelines. I will be sure to check out more of Pepper Basham's books in the future!

Hope Between the Pages by Pepper D. Basham has Clara Blackwell inheriting the families one hundred-year-old bookshop. Unfortunately, to finalize the paperwork, Clara needs to find a copy of the deed. It takes Clara on a journey into the past to learn more about Sadie Blackwell who began the bookshop. Clara’s journey takes her from the Biltmore Estate to England in the hopes of finding the elusive deed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this split timeline novel. It is well-written with developed characters. It is easy to follow the two storylines with strong female characters. The two storylines are woven seamlessly together into one engaging tale. You can tell the author loves books. There are wonderful descriptions of books, libraries, and bookshops along with great book related quotes. Some wonderful books are referenced. I like that the author had Sadie able to help match people with books. I loved the notes between The Library Fairy and The Book Goblin. They were humorous, sweet, and romantic. Faith and Bible references are knit into the story in a way that enhanced it. My favorite quote from Hope Between the Pages is, “Any story that begins with a library is bound to be one excellent tale.” This is my first time reading this author and it is definitely not my last. Hope Between the Pages is a great escape read. True bibliophiles will enjoy this enchanting story. I am eager to read the next book in the Doors to the Past series when it comes out in June. Hope Between the Pages is a romantic tale that will beguile booklovers.

Haunting lessons of love, inclusion, courage, trust, acceptance, and living in the moment are creatively encased in the words between the pages. Faith in our Lord provides the hope, peace and courage for the characters to give their best in this story. It is one of the best books I have read this year. This was such a fun book to read! I absolutely love how books and reading were the center of this story and everything revolved around it. Hope between the Pages is a split time novel that set in 1915 and the present day. It switches back and forth between Clara and Sadie. It's easy to tell who's story I am reading. I liked both of them. Clara owns a bookstore and Sadie works in a library for the Vanderbilts. It's magical and a perfect job for a book lover. I like how both stories intertwine throughout the story. t's a perfect blend of mystery and romance that kept my attention. I liked how Pepper Basham weaved the Lord's truth throughout the story. I liked how the characters grew and changed as well.

I really must talk about how many quotable book quotes are in this story. It's really cool! I've highlighted a couple that really stood out.

"Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale." - Sadie's mom

“George used to say that stories carry their own special magic every time you turn a page.”- Mrs. Vanderbilt

This story perfectly captures the magic and joy a reader gets when they hold a book in their hands.

I recommend this book to my family and friends.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Reading Hope Between the Pages was such a pleasure! It is filled with some of my favorite things – books and book quotes, libraries and bookshops, faith and family, history and mystery and romance…

I’d be hard-pressed to choose my very favorite character, though Oliver is way up at the top of my list. Handsome. Charming. Imaginative. Kind. Adored his little sister. Had a strong faith and desired always to do what is right and good regardless of what society might think. Wow! He truly was a Prince Charming!

Max might be my second favorite. He was much less confident than Oliver, preferring to remain in the background and not call attention to himself. I especially loved the way he stepped far out of his comfort zone time and again to show kindness to Clara, simply to be kind – expecting nothing in return.

Its time-split narrative allowed us glimpses into the answer to the mystery Clara was trying to solve and yet I remained as much in the dark about what really happened as Clara was. I loved the way the answer to one part of the mystery gave a strong nod to the title of the book – and that’s all I’ll say about that! You will have to read it to find out what I mean.

The descriptions of the Biltmore – the grounds, the library, the traditions, and the way the Vanderbilts interacted with their staff were all so wonderful! I really desire to go there to visit now! I was amazed at the tradition of their library maid who would set out books she especially expected the guests to enjoy. As Oliver dubbed her, the library fairy.

If you enjoy hints of mystery in your romance and enjoy learning new things through fiction as well, be sure to read Hope Between the Pages.

I really enjoyed this book that was given to me for my honest review by Net Galley. Two different stories and lives weave into one in this sweet love story. Sadie is a bookie, maid at Biltmore, leaving books for guests that that she knows they will love. Oliver stays there. Rich, debonair, with family fortune. Can they make it work? What will Plovers mother do?
Meanwhile Clara is trying to keep her bookstore afloat and open without her uncle trying to buy her out, which she does not want. Mention of so many good stories and movies mentioned...I think Ms Basham has a kindred spirit in me! Clara’s trying to figure out the mystery of Sadie and she goes to England and meets Max. Max was badly burned and is afraid to scare everyone away, but Clara sees Max!
Great book!

Hope Between the Pages is a beautiful story that will take us readers on a bookish adventure and serve as a reminder of the magic that made us fall in love with reading in the first place....and I absolutely loved it. This dual timeline story gives us two beautiful love stories and a mystery that spans across 100 years... all focused around a love of books.

I must admit that I can be a little particular about dual timeline stories. When they're done well, I love them... but more often than not I found they can be rather confusing and hard to follow and/or I find myself connecting with only one timeline within the story. That was far from the case for Hope Between the Pages. It weaved seamlessly between the lives of Clara today and Sadie in the early 1900s. I found myself drawn in by both women and their stories... the author did such a great job of giving us just enough information at the right time to keep me turning the pages. As much as I loved the heroines in this book, the heroes were perhaps even better... they were quite swoon worthy, I must say... again giving me all the classic romance feels.

There was a timelessness to the story that so reminded me of those classics that I fell in love with as a child. I've read a few books by Pepper Basham in the past, and while I have enjoyed them all, this one has by far been my favorite. I cannot wait to read more.

If you love a good romance, this is one you will absolutely want to check out! I just adored it!

Pepper Basham had me at the first line, and I couldn’t put the book down! From the halls of the Biltmore Estate in 1915 to the Biltmore Village in present day, this dual-time novel epitomizes the power of story-telling. I fell in love with servant girl Sadie and how she used her job as keeper of the Biltmore library teaching others “the best way to manage the real world is to keep a firm hold on an imaginary one”. Present day Clara struggles with her own identity and through her search for a deed to a bookstore learns the value of writing her own story.

I can’t recommend this book enough – you’ll savor it long after the last page.

“Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale.”

Hope Between the Pages is an exquisite split-time novel from Pepper Basham that begins in the library of the Biltmore Estate in 1915. I knew from the very first page that I would love this book, but I had no idea how the story and its characters would thread themselves into my imagination.

This tribute to the friendship, love, bravery, and selflessness will leave you with tears in your eyes but a smile on your face.

Any story that has a library and a bookstore, love letters and literary references, is bound to be an excellent tale indeed!
