If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I loved everything about it! I simply adored the dual time line (WWI and present day) and how they melded together from the Biltmore Mansion to the English countryside to tell a complete story. Although this was Pepper Basham’s first dual time line book, I felt that she had complete mastery of how to make this sub-genre work seamlessly, and I’m loving the Doors To The Past series! I was in awe of how these two separate, strong women, Sadie and Clara, use the disappointments and tragedies in their life to build something more beautiful then they could even imagine. I wept with each heartbreak and rejoiced with their triumphs. I loved especially how they trusted their faith in God to see them through, and shared that faith with the strong men in their lives, Oliver and Max. Absolutely unforgettable. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to write a review.

I love this series... This is book 2 of the Doors to the Past series, each book is of a different type of historical mystery that takes you back into time. Want a read of romance, mystery and family history then then this is the book for you. I couldn't put it down, it is told of the past and present. When Clara is forced to save her bookstore, she must find the deed that shows the bookstore has been owned by her family since it was established. This leads her to go hunting through family attic's, boxes, closets, and all across the ocean to England. She finds love letters that were of her great grandmothers and the key to solving the mystery. We are then taken back to the story of her great grandmothers and the meaning behind the letters.
Both stories intertwined perfectly and are all resolved in the end to make the true meaning of HOPE between the Pages. This is a wonderful story that you will want to re-read and share with your friends... it is a page turner to the very end.... you just don't want the book to end. It makes you feel for the characters and just love this family and what they endured for love. Can't wait for the next book of the series..... Buy this book for you and gifts for all family and friends that cherish faith, family, love, forgiveness and the meaning of HOPE....

This dual time story definitely gives you in two for one in many ways. In true Basham fashion it of course gives you double the romance (and kisses!) but it also gives you a story set both at and near the Biltmore and also across the pond.

This book is also a good combination of history and mystery as the main character searches for answers for her future in her family's past. It was the perfect amount of intrigue to keep me turning the pages.

Dual time stories are always slow reads for me because I always feel so interrupted, but don't let that sway you if you love them.

I did really enjoy the stories and felt like the romance was perfect.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Literary genius. Highly romantic. Engaging. Heart-wrenching. Sweet.

This is only the second book that I have read by Pepper Basham and it is a completely different genre from the first one I have read, but it makes me want to grab a copy of all her books, lock myself away, and not come out until I have finished reading them all.

This book is incredible. I was drawn into the story from the first line, "Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale," and captivated until the last line (not sharing, no spoilers, read it to find out!). There is so much depth to this story. It is a dual time slip, with Sadie's story beginning in 1915, and Clara's story is present day.

Sadie is a book maid at the Biltmore House and works for the Vanderbilts. She took over this position when her mother passed away. Sadie loves books and loves her job. She has no intention to ever leave her job or fall in love. She meets Oliver, a man above her station, who lives an ocean away. Is there any hope that these two bookish fans will find their happily ever after?

Clara helps care for her mother and works at their family bookshop, Blackwell's. But her vengeful uncle threatens everything they have known and loved. This sends Clara across the ocean in search of answers and truth. She meets Max as she searches through the Camden house for answers. Another man, another ocean, another couple with a love of books. What in the world? Will the distance be insurmountable or will love conquer all?!

There are many quotable lines in this novel and references to other books and shows. One quote I particularly loved was, "Books breathed to me." I also loved the reference to Anne of Green Gables and Gilbert!

Hope Between the Pages has a bit of everything and I loved every part of it. It is extremely well written, engaging, with likable characters. It has bookish characters, a bit of mystery, an understated tender romance, picturesque scenes, several twists and turns, and an undeniable element of faith. I simply cannot say enough good things about this book. It is definitely one of my new all-time favorites!

This was indeed an "excellent tale." I loved everything about it. I read this in eBook format but I want to own a copy of this book. I am not one to highlight in fiction, or reread books, but I want to read this one again (even though I just finished it!) and highlight all those amazing quotes ("God allows us the gift of memories to tide us over to eternity.")! I would recommend this literary excellence to anyone who loves books!!! It is not to be missed. I would also recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction and deeply poignant romance novels.

Thank you to Net Galley and Barbour Publishing for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to give a positive review but am more than happy to do so. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

1915 and present day Asheville, North Carolina & Fenwick, England

Charming time slip novel perfect for book lovers. While it took me a little longer to get wrapped up in the current day thread, I ultimately found both story lines engaging.

Clara runs a bookshop with her mom in Asheville. Her uncle presents information showing the building isn't legally theirs. This sends Clara on a modern day scavenger hunt to find the missing deed and learn more about her great-great grandmother Sadie.

Sadie was a servant of the Vanderbilts at the Biltmore estate delightfully in charge of the family's expansive library. When Oliver's family visits from England, the two quickly find they are kindred spirits.

Beautifully written and compelling time slip novel.

This was such a beautifully written split time inspirational fiction read. It was realistic to the time periods and as to the behavior among social classes. It was filled with mystery, romance and faith. I especially liked how the author used her characters to impress the importance and value of books and how books united both couples. The plot was unique and it had some unexpected highlights.

What originally drew me to this book was that it was set at the Biltmore Estate and Village. I love visiting Asheville and could not resist a book set there. I quickly discovered this was not the type of book I normally would choose. It was very sweet, romantic and predictable. I was surprised to find it was also a Christian love story. None of these are what I normally read. However, I think the author is a solid writer who did a good job keeping me interested. I enjoyed the parts set in North Carolina and dual timelines are a particular favorite. In this case I found the one set in the past much more compelling than the modern one. I think readers of Christian fiction will find this book more to their taste than I did.

My copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review it.

Hope Between the Pages is a great book by Pepper Basham. This novel takes place in and around the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina as well as in England. Sadie Blackwell was the keeper of the books at the Biltmore Estate in 1915. Clara Blackwell was the keeper of the books at Blackwell’s Books and Things present day Asheville. Sadie was the grandmother of Clara.
The author had a way of writing a chapter about Sadie and then one about Clara. Each chapter kept building onto the story, and it made this a page turner for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

What a beautiful dual timeline story (I can't believe it's this author's first foray into the genre - she was a pro!). I love these stories that connect family history, include a mystery and a romance (in both timelines). This one also includes a beautiful backdrop of the mountains - both in Asheville, NC and in Fenwick, England. This story begins with Sadie in 1915, a servant at the Biltmore, whose job it is to maintain the Vanderbilts' library and ensure that guests have books that meet their needs. In the current timeline, Clara (Sadie's great-granddaughter) is endeavoring to care for her mother and save the family's bookstore when a new chain bookstore moves into town. When ownership is questioned and Clara has 2 weeks to locate the deed to the store, she learns a great deal of Granny Sadie's story and about love. The characters in both timelines of this novel are likable and relatable. Their stories were touching and sweet. By the end, I was definitely crying the ugly tears. The faith thread in the story was subtle, but definitely present and I loved the optimism and strength of the main characters in both timelines. This is one I would definitely recommend to fans of all genres as it contains a little bit of everything. Special thanks to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was not obligated to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

“Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale.”

Pepper Basham has penned an intriguing and heart-touching story in her newest book, Hope Between the Pages. It begins with a library, the Biltmore Estate library in North Carolina, to be exact. Sadie Blackwell takes care of the books in the library there in 1915 and recommends books to guests. She meets a fellow book lover and visiting English gentleman, Oliver Camden, and a friendship ensues.

In the present-day part of the story, Clara Blackwell is working in the family bookstore, when it becomes imperative that she find the deed to it for proof that the family owns it. As she searches for clues, she unravels part of Sadie’s story and wants to know more about her.

This dual-time tale is well-crafted and inviting. Told with Basham’s signature warmth and wit, those who enjoy split-time stories will undoubtedly enjoy it.

This is the first book I have read by author Pepper Basham, but it will not be my last. It was such an enjoyable read. This is a time slip story centering around a bookshop and a mysterious letter.. I really liked the bookshop setting and all the references to works of literature. Both of the storylines were also very interesting, and kept my attention. All of the characters were well developed and likable, especially Max and Oliver. I highly recommend this book-it was wonderful!!!!

This was such a complex book and yet I found myself drawn in immediately. I don’t usually read books of this nature with the time splits, but I found it so very interesting. I wasn’t sure how this book would turn out, but it was really good. I had heard great things about Pepper Basham’s writing, so I knew that it would be a good book. Hope Between the Pages is written by Pepper Basham and it is the third book in the multiple author series, Doors to the Past.
It was so interesting to read where the two stories in the book were interconnecting. I really liked how the book was set up. It was easy to follow, and I kept on wanting to turn the pages. Clara and Sadie were such interesting characters, their lives were connected and yet they were years apart.
Sadie was a servant girl who never expected to travel or make a difference in the world. But one surprising visitor changes everything and before she knows it her whole life has been changed. It had seemed like she had found her happiness, but life had a way of disrupting things. Clara was struggling to keep the family bookstore afloat, but when she is unable to find the deed to the bookstore, things go from bad to worse. She finds herself searching for answers regarding her great-grandmother Sadie and Sadie’s story that brought about the bookstore.
I liked how Sadie and Clara were so similar and yet they were their own persons. They had a lot going around them and at times looked like the world was stacked against them. But they overcame, they pushed on. I really liked both Clara and Sadie’s stories, I wanted to see what would happen and I was shocked by the evil of those around them.
This was such a great book! I would totally recommend it. It was different then I had expected and yet it was really good. I really enjoyed reading about Saide as she tried to find her place in life and about Clara as she searched for the bookstore’s deed. I wanted them both to find their happy ending. All in all this was a wonderful book! Hope Between the Pages is a clean, Christian, historical fiction.

I’m not a great fan of dual time stories, but Basham has so intertwined the two stories in Hope Between the Pages that I never felt like I’d been interrupted in either story. I’d call this a magical feat. It’s about hope and how love can set us free. The characters are all so likable, and you’ll care what happens to them. Oliver and Sadie’s story is an epic love story, and you’re going to need at least a box of tissue for them. Clara and Max’s love story mirrors the couple from the past, but in the present day Clara is Oliver and Max is Sadie. Max and Sadie both had limited expectations for a happily-ever-after. Sadie felt her station in life prevented her from being with the love of her life, and Max thought his appearance made him unlovable. The most beautiful moments in the book are when Oliver and Clara make it clear they see only the heart of the one they love and nothing more. It’s a story of faith and hope in the One who sees our hearts and loves us despite everything else. I received an advance read copy, but will be purchasing the book for my Pepper Basham collection.

** “I looked up into a sky of early autumn azure and offered an impossible prayer, because if hope lived anywhere, it was with the One who wrote the stories in the stars.” **

Sometimes a book touches you so deeply that you just have to sit quietly, soaking it in upon completion. Such is Pepper Basham’s “Hope Between the Pages,” the second novel in the Doors to the Past series.

A time-slip novel, “Hope Between the Pages” tells the story of two related women living a century apart — Sadie Blackwell, the “book maid” at the Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C., and Clara Blackwell, who currently owns Blackwell’s Books.

Alternating chapters tell how Sadie finds herself in love with Oliver Camden, a guest at Biltmore and fellow book lover, and Clara’s journey to save her great-grandmother’s bookshop from a ruthless business owner who is related to the shop’s original owner. As both women’s journeys take them to England, they both find love as well as personal strength and courage.

Basham does an incredible job of interweaving the two stories together to tell a lovely story with great themes, like the importance of having a dream, even if they seem impossible (“Some dreams require hard work. Others require miracles.”); those who live with grief must still live; don’t let grief steal your life; doing the expected versus the spontaneous; with God all things are possible; God is already in our future; and we are healed by healing.

A huge theme is the concept of story — the magic of stories, stories matter, and our lives are our stories. As Mrs. Vanderbilt says about her husband: “George used to say that stories carry their own special magic every time you turn a page.”

Bibliophiles will love this book, as well as fans of authors like Katherine Reay, Kristy Cambron, Jaime Jo Wright and Kate Morton, and historical fiction fans.

Due out April 1, “Hope Between the Pages” is a delightful breath of fresh air.

Five stars out of five.

"You know how one can identify, most of the time, a good book by the end of the first chapter, and an excellent book by the end of the first page?"

So says The Book Goblin, aka Oliver Camden. SUCH a romantic gentleman, and exactly how I felt about this wonderful read by Pepper Basham. I've visited the Biltmore estate where this story originates, and I can just picture the library that gave rise to the fairytale romance between Oliver and Sadie Blackwell, a "book maid" to the Vanderbilts. Add to this Sadie's present day great-granddaughter Clara, as she struggles to protect the century-old family bookstore (and winds up with an unexpected romance of her own!), and you have the most wonderful time-slip. I didn't know whether to stay up late for "one more chapter," or set it aside to make the journey last. I finally decided to have it both ways, and read it twice. It was so easy to forget I was reading at all - I felt like I was peaking over the shoulders of these book-loving women who lived 100 years apart. And to think that a quaint, independent bookshop (sigh!) would be both the root and fruit of their romances. Just.So.Good. The pacing is excellent, the descriptions delicious, and the family villains nasty. If you like historical fiction, I guarantee you will love this happily-ever-after by Basham.

"Books breathed to me". Ok, I was hooked by that simple sentence.

A lovely story that I enjoyed right from the start. This is a part of the Doors To The Past Series. We are introduced to Sadie and how her choices in life impacted the future.

Clara inherited Blackwells' Books. It's a bookstore that is an important part of the community. But it's survival depends on Clara discovering the truth. In this discovery, Clara finds her destiny.

We all have to find our own path in life. What are we meant to be or do? In making life's decisions we often can make mistakes or we experience misfortune. But with each mistake, we can come out stronger with GOD's guidance and love. HE is with us in every step.

What started out to me as a hard book to get into, ended up being a book I did not want to put down until I had finished reading it. It was hard to follow in the beginning as each chapter would jump back and forth between a prior time and present day in this historical romance.

Taking place in both England and at the Biltmore Mansion, it led to beautiful descriptions of the areas. Family, mystery, a 100-year-old letter, all make this fascinating reading as we get to know and follow Clara Blackwell in her search to be able to find information about former family members to help her save her struggling family bookstore.

You do not want to miss reading this special romance book. Thanks to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for the copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

“Any story that begins with a library is bound to be an excellent tale.” With that opening line, Pepper Basham hooked me immediately. Add to that the setting of Asheville, North Carolina- one of my favorite places on earth, and I was an absolute goner for Hope Between the Pages. This book was a masterpiece!

I honestly can’t think of another book I have enjoyed as thoroughly as I did this one. I loved that the timeline was split between 1915 and today. Merging the story of modern-day book store owner Clara with her somewhat mysterious great-grandmother Sadie and integrating romance, mystery, and so many literary allusions makes me admire Basham’s skill as an author. This book has sweet, tender moments along with witty banter and intrigue. Clara’s quest to find the deed to her family’s bookstore leads her on a journey where she finds so much more than she ever expected.

This book exceeded my expectations and has earned a special place in my heart. I give it five big gold stars! Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for the ARC. Opinions are my own!

Stories where characters come alive to the reader, leaving them feeling as if they have peeked into the lives of the people living within the pages, are the very best kind. That is how I feel about this novel. I became extremely invested in the lives of Sadie and Oliver and Clara and Max. It felt as if this could not possibly be a work of fiction. I had this incredible desire to hop on a plane and travel first to North Carolina and then on to England to help Clara sort out the truth of her heritage!

This book pulled my emotions all over the place and there were tears that threatened to fall as I discovered all that had transpired in the past. However, there was such a ribbon of hope threaded throughout both of the timelines in this tale, that it kept me reading and left me sure that God could use any circumstance for good.

The two couples in this story were simply wonderful. I loved the way Oliver saw Sadie for the woman she was and not the position she held as a maid. And I loved that Clara saw Max for the man he was and not the scars that marred his face.

The two timelines were woven together nicely. I liked that the story from the past, Oliver and Sadie’s story, was sometimes written as if the reader was right there experiencing these two fall in love, however, it was helpful to sometimes discover what happened through letters and even from stories passed down through the generations.

This was such a beautiful book and I know that I will be thinking of these characters for a long time to come.

Straight-up I’m going to let you know that this was a split time book (apparently that is actually called a timeslip book. If anyone knows why, please let me know.) I normally do not like split time books at all. I find it frustrating because you can usually guess what is going to happen in the earlier time period because of the hints in the more recent time period (e.g. you know the couple ends up together because the grandchild with the same last name is the main character of the second time period). This was not the case in this book. I hoped certain events would take place but there was no hint or proof of those events happening when reading the modern time period. You didn’t know what was going to happen until it was revealed in the earlier time period and I really enjoyed that.

I also enjoyed the parallels between the two love stories both with the travel and with the love of books. I really enjoyed the relationship between Sadie and Oliver and their love of books. This was a fantastic book with some great truths and some great romantic scenes.

This book releases today. So hurry and grab it now. You will not be disappointed.
