A fun boozy cookbook that is a wonderful gift or something to add to your own collection. The problem is they are not of her own collection. This collection is merely copied thirty alcohol-related recipes and their photographs from blogs on the internet, seemingly without permission. The recipes are fun though. This is a cookbook good for anyone that loves making desserts while adding a splash of booze to it. The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is included in the footer at the end of the recipes and includes calories, fat, sodium, carbs, protein, sodium, potassium, fiber, sugar, vitamin content and micro-nutrients. Tips and variations on each recipe are included in after the step by step directions. There are small color photos for each recipe. The recipes themselves run the gamut from garnishes and add-ons (maraschino cherries, boozy berries, hard sauce, etc.) to puddings, pies, cakes and cookies, and all of them except the maraschino cherries have a boozy twist. There is no metric conversion chart included.

The Tipsy Grandma… An Anthology of Thirty, Made-from-Scratch, “Boozy” Desserts!: Perfect for Any & Every "Adult" Occasion is the fourth cookbook in the Dough-Puncher’s eBook series. For anyone who likes dessert with a bit of an alcoholic kick will definitely find several recipes that they want to make and taste. While all of the recipes include some kind of spirit, many of the recipes are baked so that the actual alcohol is cooked out, leaving only the flavor.

There is something for everyone here: cakes, pies, cookies, puddings, and even a candy. Each recipe has been contributed from a popular blog, and has been tested. The recipes have been edited from the actual blogs that they come from so that they are in standard recipe form and are easy to follow. Anyone, from beginner to advanced cooks, can follow these recipes successfully. There are photos, as well as memes and they make for a fun time perusing the cookbook. While there are only 30 recipes, as opposed to dozens in a mainstream cookbook, The Dough-Puncher's eBook Series feature just a few really good and doable recipes. That’s one of the positives about this book since there are excellent recipes but not so many that it’s impossible to choose which is the one to make. The price is also very low, so everyone can afford this excellent book.

These are good recipes that don’t take shortcuts, and none contain frozen whipped topping which should be considered the most grievous food crime, which should tell you that your finished masterpiece will be high-quality and delicious.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Probably not the most ethical of cookbooks as the recipes seem to have been stolen from other people's blogs (apparently without their permission). Then half the book is comments from other bakers??
Not really my ideal cookbook format and the whole layout is very basic so I would rather just Google recipes than use this book unfortunately.

Thank you to Netgalley and Cake Chatter for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book a lot. I am a former chef and currently teach writing, including how to write a cookbook. This book is a great example of how to take a quirky idea and turn it into a fun, readable and amazingly tasty cookbook,

The premise of this book is that the editors have scoured blogs for recipes that suit their theme, editing them slightly and marketing it. Which, honestly, makes me a little uncomfortable as a concept, so I acknowledge I'm reviewing this with a bias.

The recipes are diverse, interesting, and there are multiple I'd never heard of before, which is fantastic! It would have been easy to stick with the same core group of alcoholic dessert concepts, so I like that they've gone beyond that and looked for something new for readers to try.

One of the issues I found was that more time was spent focusing on what readers thought of the shared recipes than focusing on the actual author or giving them any meaningful kind of promotion. Given how many pages each recipe takes up, I would have liked to have seen more than just a little hyperlink to the recipe creator and their blog- a written introduction with a recommendation for readers to check out the blogs would have been preferable as it would give the impression the editors are fans and regular readers of these blogs.

A lot of the 'feedback' from the readers was quite unhelpful for book readers, and there's no clear reason for its inclusion - it's primarily people saying they liked a recipe rather than hints, tips, or alterations people had tried and liked. As a reviewer, I went through to see how often there was useful content in these sections, but as a general reader, I would have stopped very quickly, especially after realising in some recipes (such as the first brownie recipe) one person's 'I like it' feedback quote is used in two separate sections of the multi-page recipe. For me, this seems like overkill, and I'd have rather seen fewer comments focused on people liking the recipes- these could be replaced with a quick 'so many of our readers have said they've loved this recipe, and here are some suggestions they've made for those looking to try it' style blurb.

While there are some definite areas of improvement, this book has given me some new blogs to follow, and recipes to try, for which I'm grateful.

I continue to be astounded that this woman has not yet been sued. Once again, she has compiled recipes and photos directly from other people's pages on the internet and copied them in her own book. She does not attempt in any way to conceal the fact that they're stolen from people's blogs, since she leaves the watermarks right on the photos and she put the name of the website she's stolen it from right there. This is trademark violation and illegal, and it's the fourth book she's done in this manner. Even the comments are directly stolen from the real recipe owners' blogs (every one says those are comments by "cake chatter testers" or from the original site, but they're all from the original authors' web sites from the ones I've looked at).

I have heard from bloggers she's stolen recipes from that they did not give permission to have their recipes and photos used in her books and that they didn't even know they were there until someone told them. It's not just illegal, it's just ethically bankrupt. Don't steal people's hard work and photos to make money off them. Why does this even have to be said?

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

4☆ A Quirky, Fun, Boozy Cookbook, the ideal Gift!

The Tipsy Grandma is a fun, cheeky and indeed boozy cookbook that is  designed to get you just an ickle bit tipsy. Hugh Five to Boozy Desserts 🙌

Using a variety of alcohol in the recipes there's something for everyone, such as Jack Daniels, Irish Coffee, Rum, Beer, Amaretto, Bourbon, Cider, Brandy, Baileys, Stout to name quiet a few.

The recipes are pretty easy to follow, although there is just enough detail given, mainly step by steps listed. Which is suitable for all levels.

The Measurements are in Cups and Spoons so if you haven't got these measurements you would need to convert the ingredients.
The recipes are certainly boozy and very delicious I can't wait to try a few!
Especially the Climax Moonshine Cherry Cheesecake Bites, Strawberry Amaretto Marshmallow, Bourbon Peach Streusel Cheesecake, Margarita Pie (salty pretzel crust & a Tequila lime filling), Boozy Chocolate Stout Cake, Hard Cider Apple Pie with Vodka Crust.
So as you can see all sound so Mouthwatering!

I really enjoyed all the little extra bits, such as notes from those who have made the recipe before, it gives it a personal touch and that way you can get ideas and tips. That's something I always look for when I go online looking for a recipe I always check the readers tips it really helps especially if your unsure.

This cookbook is quirky, lots of fun, would make a perfect present for a foodie lover or for yourself, it's definitely a book I would consider buying for a friend. The only reason it's not a 5☆ is that the measurements are not UK based and some of the ingredients are different too. But I would still buy it for myself.

Stop what you are doing! Pick up your phone, log on to your computer, or call out to Alexa ….. and Buy This Book!! It is filled with all kinds of dessert recipes that include, wait for it  Alcohol!

I think I looked at every recipe three different times. The pictures are gorgeous and drool-worthy! If you are a Cookbook Collector, this needs to be on your shelf. If you know someone who loves to cook, this needs to be your next gift for them. The recipes are clear and easy to follow and now my husband is just simply waiting for me to make one, or five. I have to go now, I have desserts to make!!

Thank you to #CakeChatter and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This cookbook is a wonderful addition to the kitchen of anyone that loves both their desserts and spirits. What a way to enjoy them both than to combine them into one smashing handmade cake (or pie or ...) of fun! These recipes are well written and explained and even contain side notes from both the author as well as people who have “successfully” made each one. I do caution that you read the entire recipe prior to starting the process just to ensure success as some recipes are quite easy to “mess up” without careful attention (but who doesn’t love also eating the remnants of a tasty fail?)

This is a cookbook good for anyone that loves making desserts while adding a splash of booze to it! Fun cookbook!

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Cake Chatter for providing me an ARC of this delightful cookbook in exchange for an honest review! #netgalley #cakechatter #TheTipsyGrandmaAnAnthologyofThirtyMadefromScratchBoozyDesserts

CakeChatter’s The Tipsy Grandma: An Anthology of Thirty, Made-from-Scratch, “Boozy” Desserts! is a super fun, unique, and delicious recipe collection. I love the wide range of easy-to-follow recipes and the cute alcohol related graphics at the end of each recipe. However, the recipe pictures and book design are a little disappointing.

I love wine and spirits so this cookbook is right up my alley! There is a wonderful variety of desserts including cakes and bread puddings as well as cookies, cheesecakes, and even marshmallows! I love the adult twists on classic favourites. There are easy spiked dishes like Fudgy Beer Brownies, Butter Cake with Boozy Berries, and Strawberry Red Wine Popsicles dipped in Chocolate. Or, you can try your hand at more complicated and exotic fare like Strawberry Amaretto Marshmallows, Bourbon Peach Streusel Cheesecake, or Persimmon Pear Brandy Pie with Vanilla Bean Crumble. There’s even an easy recipe for making your own savoiardi biscuits for tiramisu as well as a recipe for homemade non-alcoholic maraschino cherries!

The recipes are clear and easy-to-follow. I like the recipes’ unique written layout because it makes following the instructions a lot easier. Each recipe also comes with comments from people who made the dish. I like the insight that this gives into the food. I also love the funny and cute alcohol related graphics that are at the end of every recipe. Some of the recipes also contain nutritional information but I really would have liked this to be a consistent feature throughout the book. Several recipes also contain tips to make the desserts non-alcoholic.

The book features a range of both easy and more complicated dishes. I like that with the exception of the alcohols, most of the ingredients are common pantry staples and fairly inexpensive. The recipes also pride themselves on being made completely from scratch with natural ingredients.

I do like that all of the recipes have a full-colour picture of the finished product. However, the pictures are small and not very memorable. Moreover, the book’s overall layout is a little clunky. It could’ve been a bit neater and more exciting given the fun nature of the book.

The Tipsy Grandma is a unique, fun, and tasty dessert collection. It will be a great gift for the dessert lovers and spirit aficionados in your life!

This is such a great concept for a book. I really like the sound of lots of these recipes and am looking forward to making some for parties when we can all have them again.

The Tipsy Grandma is the fourth collection of recipes is a short e-cookbook by the editors of CakeChatter. Released 3rd Feb 2021, it's 162 pages and available in ebook format. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. As far as I can see, the recipes are curated from the content included on the blog, sparing the reader from having to hunt for them.

The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is included in the footer at the end of the recipes and includes calories, fat, sodium, carbs, protein, sodium, potassium, fibre, sugar, vitamin content and micro-nutrients.Tips and variations on each recipe are included in after the step by step directions. There are small color photos for each recipe. The recipes themselves run the gamut from garnishes and add-ons (maraschino cherries, boozy berries, hard sauce, etc) to puddings, pies, cakes and cookies, and all of them except the maraschino cherries have a boozy twist.

The book also includes an interactive links list for the contributors of the recipes, but lacks any index or ingredients index. There is no metric conversion chart included (but most bakers prefer to do their own conversions anyhow).

Four stars. This would make a superlative selection for busy cooks, and the series is ongoing.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Being a wine and spirits aficionado, this was right up my alley! I enjoyed the variety of desserts from chocolate to pies and even the root beer float! In fact, I whipped one of them up right after reading through this witty and fun quipped anthology, and settled back in to peruse it once more. It was yum! The cognac butterscotch pudding, orange scented whiskey soufflé pie, and Irish coffee crème brûlée are all calling to me, but what to make to make first? That is a dilemma.

One of my early memories is watching my mother make parfaits for a dinner party. She painstakingly layered vanilla ice cream with creme de menthe in a clear crystal glass. She always made a tiny one for me. So when I saw a cookbook with the enticing title of The Tipsy Grandma… An Anthology of Thirty, Made-from-Scratch, “Boozy” Desserts, I was intrigued. And I was hooked by the first recipe, Bourbon Bacon Brittle. Really? Bacon, bourbon, sugar, pecans and other good stuff? Who could not love this? I knew I was going to give this 5 stars from the imagined taste of that recipe but I read on. Jack Daniels Honey cupcakes? Butter Cake with Boozy Berries? Yes! Now I have to say that this is a serious cookbook. There are beautiful, artistic photographs of each dessert. All ingredients are listed before the recipe is given. Next comes the “How-To-Do-It”, a step by step guide that assures a perfect result. So, 5 stars and I’m going cooking!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Editors of CakeChatter for this ARC!
