Description

This is a fun anthology (collection) of "adult" desserts designed to achieve three goals: One: they had to be made from scratch. Two: they had to incorporate all-natural ingredients and three: they had to be made with alcohol, therefore making them “tipsy!”.

As an added bonus, we have included the author’s notes about their recipe, when applicable, and comments from Dough-Punchers(tm), or folks who have made these recipes with success. Nutritional information is included when available. And, as with all our books, we have edited the recipes so that they’re easier to follow and we have developed a different format, which we think is more conducive to your baking success—with the probability of fewer errors.

When researching this anthology, we looked for “boozy” desserts that were varied, intriguing and diverse. From cookies, to cakes, to pies, to streusel, to pavlovas and more, we hope that there’s a recipe for everyone’s taste. Some are fairly easy to make (although some are complex). But no matter the dessert, we hope the ones that we have included will whet your taste buds and excite your sense of adventure—and more! They are special!

As far as time? Some of these desserts can be made in a jiffy, while others may take significantly longer. But they are all made-from-scratch and feature natural ingredients (no margarine, for example).

We hope that you enjoy making these unique, “boozy” desserts!

Cheers!

This is such a great concept for a book. I really like the sound of lots of these recipes and am looking forward to making some for parties when we can all have them again.

The Tipsy Grandma is the fourth collection of recipes is a short e-cookbook by the editors of CakeChatter. Released 3rd Feb 2021, it's 162 pages and available in ebook format. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. As far as I can see, the recipes are curated from the content included on the blog, sparing the reader from having to hunt for them.

The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is included in the footer at the end of the recipes and includes calories, fat, sodium, carbs, protein, sodium, potassium, fibre, sugar, vitamin content and micro-nutrients.Tips and variations on each recipe are included in after the step by step directions. There are small color photos for each recipe. The recipes themselves run the gamut from garnishes and add-ons (maraschino cherries, boozy berries, hard sauce, etc) to puddings, pies, cakes and cookies, and all of them except the maraschino cherries have a boozy twist.

The book also includes an interactive links list for the contributors of the recipes, but lacks any index or ingredients index. There is no metric conversion chart included (but most bakers prefer to do their own conversions anyhow).

Four stars. This would make a superlative selection for busy cooks, and the series is ongoing.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Being a wine and spirits aficionado, this was right up my alley! I enjoyed the variety of desserts from chocolate to pies and even the root beer float! In fact, I whipped one of them up right after reading through this witty and fun quipped anthology, and settled back in to peruse it once more. It was yum! The cognac butterscotch pudding, orange scented whiskey soufflé pie, and Irish coffee crème brûlée are all calling to me, but what to make to make first? That is a dilemma.

One of my early memories is watching my mother make parfaits for a dinner party. She painstakingly layered vanilla ice cream with creme de menthe in a clear crystal glass. She always made a tiny one for me. So when I saw a cookbook with the enticing title of The Tipsy Grandma… An Anthology of Thirty, Made-from-Scratch, “Boozy” Desserts, I was intrigued. And I was hooked by the first recipe, Bourbon Bacon Brittle. Really? Bacon, bourbon, sugar, pecans and other good stuff? Who could not love this? I knew I was going to give this 5 stars from the imagined taste of that recipe but I read on. Jack Daniels Honey cupcakes? Butter Cake with Boozy Berries? Yes! Now I have to say that this is a serious cookbook. There are beautiful, artistic photographs of each dessert. All ingredients are listed before the recipe is given. Next comes the “How-To-Do-It”, a step by step guide that assures a perfect result. So, 5 stars and I’m going cooking!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Editors of CakeChatter for this ARC!

Absolutely amazing recipes abound in this book. If you are looking for an "adults-only" confection for a gathering this is the only cookbook you'll need. With recipes like Butter Cake with Boozy Berries or Chocolate Whiskey Dipped Irish Cupcakes in an easy to follow format, the only problem will be choosing which one to try.

This is my personal review.

I love cookbooks and I am always looking for unique ones to add to my collection and this one is perfect.
I will be making a few of these for family gatherings as soon as we start getting together again.
There were a few recipes that are above my baking ability but most of them are something I can make.
I liked the comments from others who have made these recipes. And the photos are fantastic!

This is not your typical Grandma's cookbook - what a fun concept to have an entire cookbook devoted to boozy desserts! When I saw this available to request I had just read an article about a new restaurant opening soon in my town that only serves "adult" (boozy) desserts - so of course I had that on my mind - perfect timing! The restaurant won't be open for a couple of months so now I can try some myself in the meantime. The photos of the recipes look so delicious and I loved the included comments on each one. I can't wait to try some of these - most did not look too complicated. I would definitely purchase this and gift it to my girlfriends!
