I really enjoyed this sequel. It picks up with everything I loved from the first book with the added bonus of an adorable relationship in its early stages. It’s a genuinely funny book and I had such a good time reading it. I can’t wait to see how this series wraps up.

I fully accept this series isn’t written for me. It is pure and true YA that probably resonates really well with that age range. I had a lot of trouble connecting with the characters motivations because they are true teenagers with poor judgment, not well thought out ideas, and lacking in logic. But I am an adult and with a better developed sense of those things, so it makes this one a challenge for me. I think this one will be good for YA who want to see themselves represented in books, and superhero books no less. While this series isn’t for me (and wasn’t written for me as an adult), I think the target audience will really appreciate Nick, Seth, Gibby, and Jas and the strong friendships/relationships they have.

Thank you to the publisher and NG for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A delightful follow up to The Extraordinaries. (Make sure you’ve read that first!)
TJ Klune writes hilarious dialogue and teenage antics.

I’m not huge into fantasy but I do like this author I love the writing. This book you would need to have read the first one prior to really get the full story. The characters in this book were great I loved Nicky he is the best kid! This particular series is Amied more towards you get readers, I loved the humor present. I think actually I may have enjoyed this one better then book one! It’s just as hilarious, uplifting and crazy as book one. This book was much wanted and needed! Definitely stuff I didn’t expect! Totally recommend

Again, listen to the audiobook because the narrator Michael Lesley is BRILLIANT. He will bring the book to LIFE for you and I found myself laughing out loud way more than I probably would had I just been reading it myself.

I am thoroughly in love with the universe of the Extraordinaries because of the similarities of it and Invincible, the X-men, or really any books that feature superpowered individuals who are outcasts and have to keep their identities secret.

In this we get the further adventures of Nick Bell, Seth Gray, Gibby, and Jaz along with an expansion pack of parents, villains, and allies! Nick and Seth continue to be utterly stupid sweet and cute together as well as Gibby and Jaz and along with more adventures we get more slice of life with prom, graduation, and college on the horizon.

This one though, this one ends on a BIG cliffhanger. On to Heat Wave!

Thank you to the publisher for an egalley to review. This was a great sequel to The Extraordinaries; I enjoyed the writing, characters, and storylines. Since receiving the egalley, unfortunately, and after listening to Indigenous creators in the book community, I will no longer be supporting this author.

Simply amazing!

I lost count of the times I literally laughed out loud. The relationship dynamics are wonderful and heart-warming. I will definitely be continuing on to book 3 of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

While I enjoyed this for the most part I think I am done with Klunes writing and humor and it no longer works for me. Or at least in this case it didn't work out for me

I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book had an amazing plot, but I felt the characters were a bit hard to connect to.

Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.

I really enjoyed The Extraordinaries. So it was a no brainer to request book 2 when I saw it pop up. I swear, this series is an LGBTQ+ version of Renegades by Melissa Meyer and I AM HERE FOR IT. I don't love these books as much as his other works. Ans I always tell myself I hate superhero crap but here I am loving The Avengers and the Renegades trilogy so I'm not sure I even know myself anymore. Pick this series up! You will not be disappointed.

This book gave me some of the worst secondhand embarrassment I've ever felt reading a book. That being said, it's a fun book and that embarrassment brought back a lot of feelings of being a teenager, which shows how good Klune is at writing for a teenage audience. I liked the way this book moved the series forward and I'm glad it addressed the issues with police officers. This series is pretty fun overall!

Flash Fire brought me to tears (of laughter) several times in the first few chapters, and I really couldn't love this book more.

This is a sequel to The Extraordinaries, and I would highly recommend you read it first so you understand what's going on. Nick and Seth are now dating, and Nick can't believe his good luck in getting to kiss a superhero every day. He, Seth, Gibby and Jazz are still a crime-fighting team, but Nick can see that Seth is struggling with the everyday stresses of being a superhero.

Add to that the stress of junior year of high school, having a boyfriend and figuring out the "s3x" stuff, the fact that Nick's father seems to be hiding something from him, new Extraordinaries showing up in Nova City - some good, some not so good, and old enemies plotting to register (and control) anyone who shows enhanced abilities, and this year is turning out to be a doozy.

I love Klune's writing overall, but especially in this series, as he has created a hilarious character in Nick. Anyone who knows someone with ADHD will relate to Nick's everyday struggles with being neurodiverse, and will just love the random things that come out of Nick's mouth! Klune captures the angst of being a (queer) teen with Nick, Seth, Gibby and Jazz, and the everyday (and extraordinary) issues they face.

Thanks to Netgalley for giving me an advance copy of this wonderful book!

DNF @ 12% in.

While I found the first book intriguing, albeit lacking the charm of Klune's adult books (which I LOVE), this one failed to grab my attention. I kept having to force myself to pick it up and just couldn't push through. The main character seemed even more annoying to me than before and now with him and the love interest together, there was really no more intrigue to keep me going. I'll definitely be sticking with Klune's books, just not these ones.

Read this while I was knee-deep in grad school for my MLIS and apparently never reviewed it? I have vivid memories of writing a review, so it's possible I dreamt it.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Every bit as good as the first one. Ridiculously excited for the third book. Sorry I can't provide a better review than this, but suffice it to say, my library purchased a copy and I have been (and will continue) throwing this at everyone who expresses an interest in fantasy!

Thank you to the publisher for approving my request for this book.

I’m afraid the author’s books are just no longer for me when you take in his continued silence on the concerns about the content in the House in the Cerulean Sea. He is usually so direct to address issues (like the cop thing in the Extraordinaries, and even setting aside a book he had written and later shelved for content reasons). But his silence on his most popular book that continues to receive praise and accolades without addressing the very real hurt from Indigenous communities and what his book was inspired from prevents me from continuing on with his books.

This book had lots of potential however it wasn’t my favourite tj klune book. this could be to do with not feeling completely connected to the main character. would recommend if the synopsis seems appealing but didn’t blow me away the way house in the cerulean sea did

Still very charming, a little more serious than its predecessor. Definitely need to read the former first. Gives the characters more chance to grow and flesh out their motivations and desires.

This sequel was just as delightful as the first novel. I loved diving back into the world of Nova City and the Extraordinaries, and, of course, spending time in the delightful head of our main character, Nick. Klune writes Nick in such a brilliantly unique voice, but is always careful to reel the reader back to the plot right before it might become too much.

While I felt we got a bit lost in the middle, I was mostly okay with it as we spent time with Nick, Gibby, Seth and Jazz. It was all worth it for that ending! Klune proves once again with this second novel that he can write an ending that has you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, this book continued the strong writing, humorous scenes, and heartwarming moments from the first book. I'm excited to see what this series (and author!) has in store.

TJ Klune’s writing style is one of my favorites. I love how his mind works. I think he must be one of the most creative people to come up with the plots he does. I really enjoyed this read and recommend his books to friends all the time. This was a very fun and entertaining read!
