Very enjoyable book! A time slip story about the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge and the archeological discoveries beneath. The contrast between diving in the 1800's and present day was very interesting. I enjoyed the historical information about the construction of the bridge. The shipwrecks and hidden treasures were a plus. I found the two couples portrayed in the stories likeable and authentic. Recommended!

I did not have time to read through this tale. I was looking for something shorter in duration.
It sounded interesting; however, I did not have the time or patience!

I wanted to read this book because it has an archeologist in it and that is something I’ve always been interested in.
This book is told in dual timelines and each was interesting.
It was a nice enjoyable book, I liked the historical side of the story. Definitely recommend
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

The Bridge of Gold is a time-slip novel that centres on a murder that happens during the building of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I was intrigued by the premise, but I struggled to connect with any of the characters until more than half of the novel was nearing the end. I really liked Steven’s character and that was it. I kept hoping that it would pick up towards the end and it did, all the loose ends were tied up, and the ending was satisfying.
My gratitude to NetGalley and Barbour Books. All opinions are mine all alone.

This was a different type of book than the YA genre I usually read / review , but I was intrigued about the historical fiction aspect of the California Gold Rush and the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was interesting to discover some of how the Golden Gate bridge was built, involving divers clearing the sea floor for the towers to be erected, and the dangers that entailed. For anyone who enjoys Christian fiction, with a bit of romance and mystery, this is an enjoyable read. 3.5 stars out of 5.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Bridge of Gold draws readers into the lives of people who worked on the famous San Francisco landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge, solving a mystery between the past and present.
Starting out it felt like a historical romance, but as the story unfolds, the suspense builds, and the sinister element adds drama to their lives. It was hard to know how it would end! I liked all of the main characters and felt for them as they faced ethical dilemmas, and fought spiritual battles. Their faith grew and helped them have the courage and fortitude to press on.
It was interesting to learn more about the history of the bridge, and how the city was built up from the gold fever era. Amazing to imagine the buried treasure that might still be there. The gold itself seemed to be a snag for many, pointing to the theme of the love of money being the root of all evil. I liked the surprising conclusion and the way the author tied together both ends of the story.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical tales with romance, mystery, and faith.

The history and detail of the divers in the 1930s for during the building of the Golden Gate Bridge was very interesting. I would have liked more information and maybe a more rounded out story of this aspect if I’m honest. There was so much more that could be built on it and flesh out the story.
The romance between Kayla and Steven was sweet, although seemed rushed in the timeline, to become that deeply infatuated/in love in a matter of a few weeks. I struggled a bit on how Luke and George and Charlie just went along with the threats against them from one man. It just seemed a little lopsided and not believable.
All in all the story concept was good and a quick read, but more far more simple than I cared for.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Bridge of Gold is the third novel in the Doors to the Past series. I thought Kimberly Woodhouse came up with a great concept for this novel. San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, ship wrecks and treasure hunters were all creatively interwoven into this story. The historic and contemporary storylines also came together well, building off of each other throughout. I thought the ending was solid, though perhaps a bit rushed. Most of the characters, though all unique, felt a little too perfect to me. Margo and Steven seemed to have no real flaw. Luke was definitely my favorite, as the reader is given greater opportunity to walk through the plot with him, difficult decisions and all. Overall, this story is a quick and easy read. I plan on continuing the series.

Dual timeline novel. During the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge an old shipwreck containing gold is discovered. Flashing forward to modern day the same shipwreck is discovered while reinforcing the bridge. The bones of two people are also discovered on the ship. The story follows the recovery of the gold and solving the mystery of the identity of the deceased persons.

This is a dual time novel (1930s and modern times) and is centered around the Golden Gate Bridge. I selected the book because of the historical aspect and the fact there was a mystery. It was a pleasant, fast and clean read and gave it three stars for a couple of reasons. I prefer to have more fleshed out characters. All we learn about the 1930s characters is that they’re poor, scared and love God. I really wanted to get to know them better! The modern day characters are more developed, but I still find them lacking. Additionally, there are some loose ends that aren’t wrapped up. I'm left wondering. What happened to the people helping the “bad guys?” We do find out what happened to our 1930s friends, but I would have liked more details. There was a lot going on in this book and I feel I missed out because so much more could have been added. However, the story described the difficulties and dangers associated with the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge very well! I cannot imagine how scary this must have been. Every time they got close to the shelf, I cringed. It also touches on some of San Francisco’s history. Viewing it as more of fictionalized history book, it is an enjoyable and interesting story to read.

Kimberley Woodhouse’s Bridge of Gold is a story dealing with the merging of the past and the present all dealing with one location. Gold, mystery, greed, suspense, sabotage, and murder play a part of the history of the Lucky Martha buried near the Golden Gate Bridge. A cast of characters search for the gold in the ship while others attempt to look for artifacts and figure out what happened many years ago. A great read – I highly recommend!

Loved the brief history lesson of San Francisco that the author started with. That had to have been a fascinating time in that area. The dual story lines were both really good with lovable characters.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

During the San Francisco Gold Rush, the Lucky Martha, loaded with gold sank and is discovered during the construction of the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1933. When a diver is threatened to leave the find alone, he has to consider his safety and that of his fiancée.
When the Lucky Martha is rediscovered in present day the team hired to do underwater repairs experience equipment sabotage and again safety of the team is put in question. It’s when skeletal remains are discovered that the reader realizes that the freight is worth killing for and the stakes are raised.
This is a wonderful mix of Christian fiction, historical fiction, romance, mystery and murder! The dual timelines dovetail nicely and the element of suspense crescendos appropriately. The meticulous research enabled readers to enter the believable plot as divers and become part of the story. Readers sense the adventure and the impending danger of the ledge. The dive equipment was era specific and the effects of the depression were realistic. Woodhouse writes to remind us of the power of human greed and unscrupulous individuals. She also exposes God’s hand in control of extraordinary circumstances and unimaginable outcomes.
This adventure read will be published June 1, 2021.
Thanks to Kimberley Woodhouse, Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for the gifted advance copy. I was under no obligation to provide a review.

Bridge of Gold has been an interesting story to read. It has two story lines, present day and 1933 when the Golden Gate bridge was built. In the 1933 time, we have Luke, who is hired on to do underwater construction. He asks his girlfriend, Margo to marry him. She says yes, of course, and he goes to work on the bridge. While working, he discovers a ship, and it has gold on it. At first he keeps it secret, but soon he tells his friend George and then Margo about it. But somebody else knows what he found, and soon they receive threatening notes about it. They do not know who this mystery person is, nor how serious the threats are. In the present day timeline, they are restoring the bridge, and Steven is the man whose company is hired to do it. He meets the underwater archeologist, Kayla. They work great together, and soon become great friends. He finds gold too, after his discovery of the sunken ship. Together they find out how much gold is there. But someone is watching them, and begins sabotage of their diving equipment. Bringing up questions of how safe Steven and his company are. Both timelines are exciting and fascinating and make for a wonderful, clean, but interesting tale to read. Great story!

BRIDGE OF GOLD by KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE is a novel with a dual timeline, taking place in 1933 and in the present day in San Francisco.
In 1933 we come across Luke Moreau and and his fiancée Margo Hunley. Luke is involved in the underwater construction of the Southern Tower of the Golden gate Bridge and is happy to have the job with so many out of work due to the depression. When he finds a large nugget of gold he is delighted and he and his friend George look for more until threatening letters make them really afraid. There is a legend about the Lucky Martha which went down with a cargo of gold during the Gold Rush, and they are not the only people looking for the gold that went down with it.
In the present time, after the Lucky Martha is rediscovered, the mayor employs Kayla Richardson, a well known under water archeologist, and Steven Michaels of Steven Michaels' Underwater Construction, to dive for the gold and historical artifacts which went down with the ship.
It is interesting to see the difference between the diving gear used now and that which was used in the earlier time period.
With sabotage, bones which speak of murder in two different time periods, unscrupulous people, friendship and betrayal, suspense and even some romance, Bridge Of Gold has all you need for a really exciting read.
I do not want to tell you any more except that it is a most enjoyable novel with great character description and an excellent plot. As is the case with this author, the book is strongly based on historical research and Christian truth and it is one I can highly recommend.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Underwater excavation, sunken treasure, and sabotage; the mystery unfolds in this dual timeline story.
A long lost ship sank along the shores of San Francisco during the Gold Rush is discovered while the foundation of the south tower of the Golden Gate bridge is being established in the 1930s. But someone claims the ship is theirs. What will Luke do when the lives of those around him are at stake, including his fiancé?
When repairs need to be done on the bridge, that same ship is discovered once again, bringing an underwater archeologist, Kayla, onto the diving team. Carrying heavy grief from the recent loss of her parents, and desperately seeking answers. Can she let go of what she can't control and trust Steven in the middle of mysterious events.
History and mystery entwined in this series! If you're a fan of historical fiction, this one is for you!
*Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC, and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Despite being a quick read, it was packed with action, adventure, history, and budding romance! I couldn't get enough of this book. If you enjoy historical fiction romances, I highly recommend this book!

Told through alternating timelines, this is the story of the Golden Gate Bridge, dashed hopes and dreams, and some real soul-searching. During the Great Depression, Luke and Margo are trying to make a go of it in San Francisco, but a mystery ship changes their lives forever. In modern day, Steven and Kayla have discovered the same cache as part of a restoration project, and it also pivots their lives in ways never imagined. However, God has a plan, and sometimes it unfolds in the most mysterious of ways...

Bridge of Gold by Kimberley Woodhouse is an excellent historical fiction novel that is the third book in the amazing series: Doors to the Past. This book has it all: history, wonderful cast of characters, mystery, suspense, and a dash of romance. This novel kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
This is such an awesome group of novels. Each book features and includes a historic landmark/location and each author weaves a wonderful story involving this area. This book features the Gold Gate Bridge. I loved how the author was able to weave the dual timelines together to create an addictive and balanced narrative that had complexity, yet simplicity. I really enjoyed the current-day and historic concepts equally.
I also really enjoyed Kayla and Steven as characters. They were likable, relatable, and had great chemistry. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery that they were involved in and this is truly a great addition to this stunning series.
I really am looking forward to the next installment. I have read the previous two books that preceded and I cant wait to see what the next landmark will be.
5/5 stars
