Mother of two, Kate Gardner, is struggling to piece her life back together in the aftermath of her recent divorce. Living in the same small town as her ex-husband and his mistress/fiancé is no small feat, especially since gossip runs rampant and most of the town’s allegiance seems to favor Kate’s number one nemesis. In a misguided attempt to avoid further humiliation, Kate tells “One Little Lie,” which quickly spirals out of control. In the process, a potential stalker is discovered, yet a suspicious light is also cast over Kate, illuminating everything that she says and does.

“One Little Lie” is an intriguing whodunit that is more “entertaining” than actually suspenseful. Right from the get-go, I was “team Kate,” rooting for this delightful, haggard woman from start to finish. Although I had my suspicions as to what was in play, it did not detract from my interest in seeing it all unfold. There were some “eye rolling” moments, especially as it pertained to certain secondary characters, but I chose to look past those and to allow myself to simply enjoy the ride. That said, “One Little Lie” is a quick and easy read, a perfect addition to anyone’s summer reading list!
