This is the final book in the Author's Aelf Fen series and whilst it can be read as a standalone some background in previous events would benefit the reader

Lassair is finally returning home after years in Spain , hoping to reunite with her mentor Gurdyman and love , lawman Jack- is he still waiting for her ,?
But she first has the task of collecting the chest left to her by dead , former King's spy , Rollo Guiscard ,,,,,,,,, a chest that contains not just gold but secrets !
Murder soon follows Lassair's steps , will more follow ? ......... are the chest's secrets so dangerous or has her past in Spain followed her home ? who can she trust ? will she survive ? will her dreams and gift of healing and sight aid her ?

This book brings together all the strands from the previous books to a satisfactory conclusion - I enjoyed the mystical elements within these books which gave them a more paranormal twist than usual in historical murder mysteries
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Lassair the healer has returned home to England and becomes entangled in the affairs of the dead Rollo Guiscard's affairs as England has a king assassinated in 1100 AD. Lassair has to figure out where she fits with the first man she loved and who is killing everyone who held Guiscard's secrets. Excellent historical romance with a paranormal slant. The completion of Lassair's story. Alys Clare has given us a winner.

Alyx Clare's historical mystery are always gripping and entertaining.
I was glad to read a new Lassair stories and I'm sad because it's the last in this series.
It's an gripping and entertaining story that kept me on the edge and guessing till the end.
The historical background and the characters are excellent, the mystery is solid.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Britain- and Europe writ large- in 1100 is a dangerous place, as Lassair knows better than most. This is the last in a long running series of which I've only read a couple and I do think it is best appreciated by those who have been following her journey. Lassair is on her way home to Cambridge but along the way she must deal with a veritable Pandora's box bequeathed to her by Rollo. Once again, she must deal with spies and those familiar with the religious and political machinations of the period will find more in this than those new to the subject. Does she get home to Jack? Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. No spoilers from me but know that fans of the series will be pleased.

My appreciation of the writings of Alys Clare began when I found this Aelf Fen series and I've looked forward to each of the other nine books as they were published. I was surprised to see this is the final book in this series but must confess that I have come to look forward to the Gabriel Taverner series more impatiently. Ms Clare certainly gave me everything I could want as she tied up every thread for Lassair and her friends in Cambridge and her family in Aelf Fen. All of the books have been filled with magical elements but this one seems to have been even more mystical than any of the previous stories. In the summer of 1100 there are momentous political happenings in England and Lassair becomes involved in those only because of dreams and heading right to the place where some of the elements of those dreams will be played out in reality. The author was clever in the way she brought back instances from previous novels (as indicated in Footnotes so if you are curious you will know where to satisfy your curiosity) and looking back on the long history of these books it was impressive to see how all the stories hold together so easily and naturally. I have enjoyed this series but am now content to leave it as it is with Lassair's life all ready to be lived. Thank you, Ms Clare, I've enjoyed my time with these characters and this world you created.

Thank you to NetGalley and Canongate Books, Severn House for an e-galley of this novel.

The final instalment in the Aelf Fen series sees Healer Lassair return to her home on the Cambridge Fens. She is happy to see family and Jack who she had asked to wait for her. Lassair has traveled from the City of Pearl where she has been given gifts of healing and sight. A great darkness has followed her which leaves her at first not able to contact family and loved one’s due to their safety. Rollo an old friend has lead her to the house of Eleanor de Lacey and a network of spies. Murders soon follow. Has Lassair finally come home to lose it all? A great paced story has many twists and turns to the end.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

#TheLammasWild #NetGalley 3.5 stars Round up to 4 for the ending- so glad I was able to read that!

From publisher:" Healer Lassair returns to England and uncovers a secret that puts the lives of everyone she knows in grave danger, in the final Aelf Fen medieval mystery."

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC, the last in the Aelf Fen series. Alys Clare's books are quite unique, Hawkenlye and Aelf Fen have my favorite characters of hers.

Lassair and her family in the Fens intrigued me when the series started. I was a bit less enthralled with her long sojourns but all was well with she and Jack at the end of this one.
