I loved this book. Loved loved loved the queer energy all around, and the very hot sex scenes.

It got a bit plot heavy in the last 30% (and the couple are separated for quite a bit of that) and I wanted more romantic resolution at the end, but I don't read a lot of supernatural romance so I figure this might be a subgenre aspect that I'm just not very fond of.

I'm also not a big fan of third person present tense but everything else in the book was good enough to make up for it.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I wasn’t sure of this to start with but I am glad I persevered as I did end up quite enjoying it. It was a unique premise with a well thought out plot and some surprises along the way

Unfortunately could not get into this read. It started off reading like a YA romance and took some interesting turns along the way--but overall confusing. The characters read a lot younger than they were and I was bored with much of the plot line and romance. I wish I could give a more positive review, but overall not my favorite.

This is a story about a group of heartbreakers who don’t do what they’re good at for free.

It took me absolutely ages to read this- I just couldn’t get past the first couple chapters. I’m glad that I did, because it was ultimately a fun time! I didn’t love the fantasy twist (unusual for me!) or romance elements, but I did love the protagonist & the overall concept. If there’s a book 2, I’ll definitely check it out!

Alex De Campi's Heartbreak Incorporated is a great example of how to push the boundaries of a great genre (urban fantasy) by really putting your own spin and take on what that genre encompasses. She doesn't dive wholeheartedly into the fantasy aspect, but allows her characters and plot to slowly unveil the "other" as the story progresses. This take follows the "outsider looking in" feel of someone just discovering their world is deeper than expected, and really works well as a framing device in the story. Over all, this was a fun read, and I look forward to seeing what else De Campi puts out in the future.

And now I can also try to write something a little bit more sensible!
Misha is an amazing character and you just have to meet him! (Okay, this was sensible, right? And I also can leave it at it, and be done with the review, really!!)
But it would not be really nice, because we have some other things in there that are pretty good too. But Misha is at the top of the list!
And then we have Evie, she is quite a nice character, even if the author is not really subtle in her way to show you the many ways in which this world is not really full of equality for women, and Evie is the one that suffers from it the most. Mind me, I am all with the author here, I am not saying that she is wrong, at all, but I prefer things a little bit more subtle usually, I like to think for myself, to see things and think because this way help me make mine the thoughts, but here the author bulldozer them at you. So yeah, I am totally with the author, but her ways weren't the rights one for me.
But this aside, Evie is a nice character, and I really liked her and her way to see the world. She is quite brave, too, and kind. Really kind, even if sometimes she let herself be misguided by her prejudices. But she is also quick to change her mind if she was wrong, and this is a really valuable feature.
And the plot is interesting and never boring. Sure, in some parts is more like watching a trainwreck waiting to happen, but all in all is good, always interesting and the pace is good too. I really enjoyed my time with this book, and I devoured it!

A professional breakup agency and some magic? Yes. But this story? Not so much. There was a lot going on and so many cliches, it was a bit much to get through.

An entertaining and refreshing new entry to the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre. Great characters, intriguing plot and believable chemistry between the leads. I will definitely be hoping for further books in a possible series.

I adored this book! I had just about taken romance novels off the list of books I'll attempt to read, but Alex De Campi has given me hope again. This book was so much fun, and I can't wait to read the next one!

Hot gender-fluid, bisexual incubus? Yes please. More please. As soon as possible, please.

The story concept had great potential and the author delivered. The sex was hot, the infatuation fun and not dragged out too long before honesty came to the fore, and the plot was tantalizingly delicious.

One thing I regret is not being able to get inside Misha's head. We experience everything through Evie's eyes and filter. Perhaps in the future, he'll get to share his own voice.

So. It feels like there’s two very separate stories here. There’s a story about falling in love with your boss and the professional breaking people up company he runs, and the exposè you’re writing. And then there’s a story about the same but also the boss is a succubus and he’s fighting an evil book and there are weird Catholic priests following him around and one of them may be an ex. These two stories could’ve blended together very well, but story two doesn’t get introduced until about sixty percent in and it leaves you feeling a bit like you’ve been whacked about the head and then it’s a sprint to the end. I also read the one shot comic that serves as a prelude to this (in Twisted Romance, with Kate Skelly), so that absolutely may be influencing my reading of this here, because to some degree I was expecting the succubus reveal to come sooner. It’s solid, but it feels like two very different things that don’t come together quite as well as I would’ve liked, and that does ding my experience of it quite a bit. I also can’t remember that much about Evie writing this up five days after finishing the book. It just feels like it could’ve done so much better on the execution, and it’s frustrating.

I have mixed feeling for this novel. I can't say I absolutely love it, but I also can't say I didn't like it.

I did like the supernatural/fantasy twist that was completely unexpected and gave to the story a different turn and interesting bits.
I expected a normal hot boss/employee relationship (just by reading the blurb _ no spoiler here ladys and gents) but it was sightly different with revelation, story..  and with a bit of spice on top of that (was good if you like a bit of explicit adult content in the middle but not too much).
About the characters we don't know a lot about the background of them and got a bit frustrated with that, but was a novel and sometimes giving to much detail I guess can be too much ? But I really liked the chemistry between the MCs! Even if I didn't grow fond of Evie :(.
The story was interesting and unexpected  sometimes, which gave me a sort of fantasy/romance/bit of mystery vibes !
Easy to read, well written and good when you want to read something not too complicated in term of story building.

My overall opinion is good for the novel, and can be recommended, but I am completely disappointed about the end, a lot of thing were missing.

This story remind me a bit of Drakon Promises my NJ Walters that I actually recommend you !

Heartbreak Inc tells a story about a girl trying to make it as a journalist whilst temping at multiple jobs. Most of the story is told through Evie's perspective and she turns out to be quite an interesting person and is helpful to understanding the story.
I really enjoyed this book not what you expect but really good. The storyline was amazing. The plot easy and sucks you in at first read and the characters. Almost feels realistic. If you're looking for a new thriller to add your tbr. This is the book for you

I'd hand this book to Sookie Stackhouse fans (and grownup Twilight fans) who are looking for their next read. Though I would have to warn them that the plotting is uneven - the supernatural elements don't show up until more than halfway, and then they REALLY show up and things get super sexy and gory. (Fortunately, not at the same time.)

Many of us have had that moment of this is not quite the life I was expecting. That first time out of education, the family home and even after the first job when you just feel a little lost, aimless, and frustrated. What can you do next? Reading Heartbreak Incorporated by Alex de Campi made me relive that experience albeit with added monsters, steamy romantic tension, and the lives of the rich and famous being exposed for the nastiness that lurks within.

Evie has lived in New York for several years dreaming of being an investigative journalist but in the 2020s journalism is a business running on low margins, low pay, and constant offers of great work with just exposure and not pay. Now Evie is running short on cash and if not doing bar-work is temping in offices and a friend has suggested she works for a secretive agency working in a prestigious skyscraper. Upon meeting the handsome but strange owner Misha who asks uncomfortable questions in the interview about her morality Evie finds herself thinking she may have escaped a dangerous workplace but then she at a later event helps Misha when he is attacked by thugs and gets the job. Evie finds then herself working for Heartbreak Incorporated a form that specialises in break-ups – the rich child going out with the unsuitable partner, the couple needing reasons to divorce or affairs to be exposed. Misha is good at this work for many reasons and their work focuses on the wealthy who can afford such skills. But Evie spots that some of Misha’s clients die in strange circumstances and gets the scent of a juicy story that may bring her back into the magazines. But the more she finds out about Misha the more she worries what he is and also the more attractive he becomes.

This supernatural thriller really works on the emotional make ups of the two main characters. I loved how this tale gets that lost mid-twenties feeling that someone knows they’re not where they want to be. Evie is smart, keen to do the right thing but also knows to make a story you may need to lie. The story works works hard to make us understand her life and her limited options hence her decision to work and try to betray her boss. But at the same time fight her feelings that develop for Misha. Misha the handsome, rich, Georgian, funny, louche, moody and yet sharp witted and occasionally kind mystery man is also compelling as he clearly has secrets to be exposed and something is wrong yet hard not to quite like how he comes across especially with the more obnoxious members of society. The first half of the book is these two characters coming together and each keen the other does not know their secrets. In the middle is Masha Misha’s funnier and more relaxed sibling ho may be able to help Evie figure out her boss. It’s a really good will they won’t they set of scenes that accumulate in some very passionate pay-offs.

The plot of the book falls into two halves. In the first half we follow Heartbreak doing what they do with a powerful couple where two husbands are being broken up. de Campi very much shows the shades of grey in these dealings as we find one of the couple is an abusive swine and the person Heartbreak is trying to harm is the victim. It’s a bold move to put us on the wrong side of the debate but then we see Misha does have a few extra tricks up his sleeves. Misha’s actions and true nature again make us have to think about what side we are on, and I enjoyed having to make decisions on who I wished got punished. It’s a great way to set the premise of the format. The second half especially after Evie and Misha admit their feeling is a more central Misha plot and moves much more into the realm of the supernatural with murders, secrets and even mysterious gangs of priests all coming into play. I also liked that de Campi doesn’t use one of the standard monster threats here! It did feel like two separate stories, but I read this book as almost like the first episode of a new show introducing format, main and supporting characters and then the wider world that offers much more to be explored. de Campi can switch from scenes of office politics, friends calling each other out, romance to action and supernatural horror very skilfully and it really clicks together quite well.

Although the main story is neatly closed up and the world for the characters is now quite changed there is lots of room for more adventures which should be a lot of fun to read. This is a smartly written and sleek thriller throwing thrills, spills and kills all over the place. Will be very interesting to see where it leads.

Great read although I found it slow to get into, characters where great and their bond flowed well throughout the story.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and the author too as it was my first time reading her work. I did have my issues, which I'll go into later. But, mostly Evie and Misha were so cute. I'm always a sucker for a bad boy with a heart of gold!

Speaking of them, I do feel as if the romance between them wasn't fleshed out properly, it almost felt incomplete. I think this book focuses mainly on the fantasy/paranormal aspects of the book, rather than romance. Having read quite a few dual POV books this past month, I must admit I always get a little sad when a book offers only a single POV, as this one does.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read! The synopsis really drew me in, which it did deliver in the book. The 'occult' aspect of the book was not at all what I was expecting, though it did end up stringing me along and keeping me interested. However, I also did feel as though the story lacked in a few important areas. If you're looking for a fast paced, fun, and slightly steamy read, then I recommend this book.

I had a hard time getting into Heartbreak Incorporated since it was hard to connect to the story. Not a fan of the ending.. Eh not for me.

I thought this was definitely an interesting concept and the mention of the occult was what really sealed the deal for me requesting this book. The execution, though, left something to be desired, although it was engaging enough.

HEARTBREAK INCORPORATED takes a minute to get into the story as it's outlined in the blurb. I think I was 40 or 50% of the way in before that occult aspect even came into play. Up to that point it's really just Evie feeling sorry for herself as she job hops. She not an uninteresting or even an unsympathetic character; it's just that her whining started to grate after a while and I just wanted the story to get on with it.

The voice was enough to keep me reading and I thought the story it was telling was engaging enough, but when the occult started to come into it, it really stayed off the page, which I found annoying. For something that's seemingly important enough to be mentioned in the blurb, it really stayed at the periphery until the very end.

I did find myself rooting for Evie and Misha once that love story really started fleshing itself out (heh). I wanted that to succeed, more so for Misha than for Evie as I found him a more interesting character. At the end of the day this is still very much a gawky, awkward plain Jane finds herself the love interest of an inhumanly attractive supernatural creature story so if that's in your wheelhouse, you might like this story just for that.

The sex was super steamy and I kind of wish there was more of it, but within the scope of the story the one and done at least made sense. I also really liked how Evie and Gemma weren't antagonistic toward each other. Maybe at the very beginning, but that cleared up quick so there wasn't any mean girl aspect or women hating on women piece to it that seems to be rather prevalent.

The flow of the story itself felt off, probably because it did progress pretty slowly for as short of a book as it was, but once things really started rolling (probably about 75% of the way in), they didn't stop. The ending was solid and wrapped up the book nicely. I just wish the occult part was a bigger, more on-page part of the story than it was.
