This was a nice light read :) I enjoyed the jokes and songs throughout . I didn’t know much about Willie Nelson before reading this and this book definitely gave me a little insight to his life and how he came to be where he is now . Overall enjoyed it but found it a little boring in parts .

...We lost Jerry Jeff (Walker) this past year, but I like to remember him for all the fun times we had together. In the old days, he had a reputation for drinking, and told me once that the only difference between him and Hank Williams was that Hank went backstage to throw up!...

Willie Nelson took the pandemic to task and wrote a slew of letters to friends and family both dead and alive. Some a little corny, but that’s Willie, jokes and all. However, his advice should not be taken lightly.

...“Don’t think no negative thoughts.” When you put a negative thought into your mind and body, it poisons your system. Worry will make you sick. But I’ve never seen worrying about something change it. Instead of always having a worried mind, I decided not to worry…

Amen. But it’s hard sometimes.Especially when it’s a shitstorm out there. But it passes. As do we.

...Zeke and Johnny, Waylon and Merle, have all moved on. If missing them would bring them back, I’d miss ‘em the whole day long. But missing ain’t living, and living works best when you’re strong…

These letters are sort of a goodbye to everybody and a plea for the country to get its shit together. Hope it’s not too late. Miracles can happen.

Willie’s letters are full of soul, full of hope, and full of love for fellow Americans. I loved this book and enjoyed a day on the beach contemplating his thoughts on paper. Wonderful
Many thanks to Harper Horizon and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Apart from some bad language & off-colour jokes, I have otherwise enjoyed these letters from an old friend, touching on many subjects & ranging over a lifetime. Willie Nelson just seems to go on forever, he never tires of coming up with something new & fresh. Where it would be understandable for him to rest on his laurels, instead he continues performing, recording, & supporting the environment & people’s rights. Maybe he is the conscience of the country...?

This book was received as an ARC from Harper Horizon in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Willie Nelson is said to be one of the legendary country music stars in the business and this book is so heartwarming and I am touched throughout all my heart. The letters were personally written from Willie himself to everyone not just those who influenced his life and his career. When you are finished with this book, you'll feel like you know Willie personally and would want to thank him back. My husband is a huge country music fan and he definitely appreciates Willie Nelson's music so he'll definitely would want to read this book and when he is finished, I can't wait to talk about it with him.

We will consider adding this title to our Biography collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

In Willie Nelson’s Letters to America, the American music icon shares stories and memories from his life and career. Many of the letters are connected to some of his most famous songs. He addresses letters to members of his family, friends, his hometown, his guitar, COVID, and yes even cannabis.

The book seems a little sporadic and hard to follow, much like Willie’s famous staccato singing style. His corny sense of humor is prominent throughout the book, but he also gets deeply personal as well. This is definitely the book from the heart of an aging troubadour reflecting on the road he has traveled.

This is not a book for everyone. It will, of course appeal to die hard Willie fans. Yet, it may also appeal to fans of American music who have a deep appreciation for Willie as living legend.

I enjoyed this book by Willie Nelson. He has lots of memories about his life, many tied to different songs he has written. He is very funny, in an offbeat way. It was a book I could reach for, read a few short chapters, and lay down, in between my book I am currently reading. A lot of these stories will be gone, as so many of his friends have passed. Mostly light-hearted and a quick read.

When I think of the great singer and performer, Willie Nelson, I hear the song in my head: "On the Road Again." I don't necessarily envision him as a writer. But he got my attention with this book.

He starts by saying he's always been a letter writer. "Handwritten letters are like carefully crafted songs." Sadly, he notes the art has been replaced by the instant exchange of texting.

The book is filled with inspiring stories, jokes, letters and opinions that he has written during the down time of the pandemic of 2020. At 87 years old, he's still strong in spite of years of drinking whiskey and smoking which he admits he has stopped. He believes in the power of positive thinking, the rights of voters, family values and music. He said, "Music is a great communicator. It crosses all boundaries."

If you want to know what's on his mind, this book gives you a good idea. He loves cowboys and Native Americans, talks about the world getting hotter, national debt and the devotion towards farmers. He is also a religious man with the belief that God is love. Overall, he says, "Peacefulness combined with visualization has been key to my life and my work as a songwriter."

Will this be his last word? Not likely. Looks like he still has to get back on the road. It's not a long book but grabs you at your heart. Highly recommend for everyone and especially those that needs some inspiration. "Life is better when we don't take it too seriously."

My thanks to Willie Nelson, Harper Horizon Books and NetGallery for allowing me to read this copy.

Willie gave me exactly what I expected. He believes in kindness. He believes in treating the world and people with respect. He believes in living in positivity. He believes in love. His jokes are bad. I had the privilege of seeing him live in Perth Australia, either in 1980 or 81. No one there really knew who he was so I ended up going alone. He was the reason I ended ip in Oz, working on a farm. To this day, I’m thankful that Willie‘s music was a part of my young adulthood, and now my elderly adulthood. This book will not surprise you. The man you see in public is the man you see in this book. Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for the ARC.

My grandpa died last November. (Stay with me here....) One of the greatest joys of my life was listening to stories from him.

This book is that. Willie Nelson, a true American treasure who should be protected at all costs, has written letters to America...about any and everything.

Willie Nelson could write a minute by minute recap of his day, and I would read it. HE WROTE 'CRAZY' - one of the all-time greatest country songs every written.

thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this treasure.

This was such a fun book! Willie Hugh Nelson is such an interesting and extremely talented human being. It was great to hear about his start in music, learn about Farm Aid and what a duet with both Frank Sinatra and Julio Inglasis was like. After finishing this book, I want to take a trip to Luck Texas. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced opportunity to read this.

Willie Nelson's Letters To America is like taking a walk down memory lane. My parents raised me with a love of all music... from AC/DC to Willie Nelson. I remember many car trips listening to Willie and Waylon on the 8 track player. So many wonderful times and all the memories came flooding back!! Even memories from my own wedding. Our first dance was to I'd Have To Be Crazy by Willie Nelson.

This book has a little bit of everything. It tells the story of Willie career. But not just by telling a story, but also letter form and depending on what he was talking about, you would also get song lyrics to his songs. From Hello Walls, to the Red Headed Stranger to Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die. You get all of Willie.

This book is quintessential Willie, and I loved every bit of it!! 4⭐

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Horizon and Willie Nelson for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I grew up listening to Willie Nelson and he, along with millions of other people, have been quarantining for the past year. As I started reading the book, he is like many people I know, including myself who during the pandemic, thought about their memories they have had in life, and he has been at home for the past year with his wife and two of his sons. At night, they sit on the porch and play music which brings to mind many memories, but it also makes you think about starting again, when the pandemic is over.
Willie Nelson's Letters to America, is his gift to his family, friends, places that have meant so much to him, to the people he has met, and to the ones he hasn't met, but might have listened to his music. When I was reading his book, it felt like he was sitting right down beside me telling me his stories. He is continuing lifting others up during difficult times.
The Letters to America have come to an end, and like all of us, he can't wait to get on the road again. We take with us, the stories he shares, the reminder to be thankful, and even during the most difficult times in life, there are still things we can do to help ourselves get through them, and uplift others around us.
I received an ARC from Harper Horizon.
