What a great book!! I read it through in one day and couldn't put it down. It's the epitome of a post apocalyptic story with those left to navigate a new world without modern conveniences. Communities formed for good and evil and new leaders emerge as they all strive for survival, a sense of community while fighting for the last few commodities left. This version follows the one remaining woman left, trying to find her way through the world alone, taught to not trust any men. She finds herself found and forced to join a clan of men. Her fight for the life she chooses, to not be seen as an object and to see through the commitment she made to her father to "go back to the beginning". Relationships are formed and tested, challenges emerge and fighting ensues as she struggles to find her way back to the beginning. She becomes the object of affection as would be expected being the only woman to be seen in three years but also seen as something to be caged away and protected to be able to continue the human race. It seems like there is a pretty good chance that there will be a second book and lots of story lines that could develop into multiple books. I can't wait to see how the series evolves.
Thank you for HJ Nelson and Wattpad books for allowing me to read and review this book.

So there's a virus that has wiped out most of humanity and caused the animals to morph into larger and more powerful creatures.

Ara is the last female on earth. Or is she?

This is a dystopian, reads like a YA love triangle story that wasn't bad, but just didn't engage me in the world like I was hoping. Chapters are told from different points of views, and I just don't think the writing gave distinct enough voices to each character. I wanted to be immersed in this world, but I felt like the reader was always kept at arms length.

I kept asking myself how could humanity have fallen so far in just three short years, how did technology get wiped out because of the plague? How did Ara not come across any other humans in that time, and then suddenly she's thrust into all these warring clans, when she didn't really leave from her home area?

A lot of questions unanswered, but I read that there is a second part to this story to be released.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely given.

I really liked this book, but a part of my would have love this book if were 18+ because the plot would work, perfectly with erotica.

Anyway I recommend this book for distopian fans.

After trying to read this book many different times and in many different moods over the past month, i have realized it is not for me. The plot didn’t really make that much sense? There were a lot of loose ends that I noticed that I think were definitely fixable and just didn’t get fixed. Maybe it was overlooked but I just couldn’t get into this book for the life of me.

I was so excited to request this because a book that sounded like a mix of The 100 and The Hunger Games sounded like two of my favorite things mixed up into a dystopian plot of its own where females are pretty much nonexistent due to a worldwide plague.

However, this book fell flat on those expectations. There is an overdone plot with so many plotlines, backstories and relationships that are dropped or unexplored, leaving little to no satisfaction throughout the entire book. A huge plot twist was dropped completely from the story, but it was the best twist the book had to offer.

Ara goes to this medical testing facility per a clue from her father to discover that he had been working with the lab staff there to help them find a cure, and we find that Ara may be the answer to the cure. And the greatest part of it is that she doesn’t remember being tested or being a part of any trials. Cool, right!? It was never brought up again in any of her thoughts or inner dialogue, or even regular dialogue.

This book definitely felt like it was released chapter by chapter and the author completely forgot about this, since it wasn’t brought up and the ending didn’t answer any of these scenes/information either. The author was probably caught up in the poorly done romance/love triangle too much to care about finishing out plot points which tie into the biggest freaking theme of the book, the freaking PLAGUE!!!

The epilogue should also not exist. It feels like someone accidentally put the beginning of another, totally different book at the end of this one. Now, if the epilogue was actually the start to the second book, it would be a really confusing opening chapter, but it could work back throughout the text to explain it. But since this was slammed into the back of a book that already gave us zero answers, getting more questions is so unbelievably frustrating.

On top of a frustrating and unsatisfying plot, the characters are not fleshed out in the slightest. I have no idea who anyone is, or even if they are supposed to be stereotypes since everyone is a piece of wet cardboard. Except...Ara is a watered-down, knock-off Katniss Everdeen with zero inner strength and zero wisdom. She makes so many stupid choices and never thinks of her consequences as a result. Ugh.

I would read the second one just out of morbid curiosity and because I love this premise sooo much, and I’m hoping the second book will be succinct and answer the questions we have lingering.

Unfortunately, I can tell from the first few chapters that this is not the book for me. It reads too much like a Wattpad generic apocalyptic novel, and perhaps I have just read too many of those, because it's not clicking for me. If you really like that genre and feel, though, this would probably be a good choice. Thank you nonetheless to netgalley for providing me with an ARC; I apologize that this review was not more positive. I definitely think it's a case of "it's not the book, it's me."

Thank you so much Wattpad Books, Nelson and NetGalley for this riveting new ebook copy!

WoW! This book blew me away! I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this story! But honestly what I got was not what I was expecting! In a freaking fabulous way too!
I have over time gotten so hooked on apocalypse, plagues and viruses stories. Like its my new jam!
And this book.was everything. It hooked me from get go. I couldn't stop reading once I started.
Ara is such a badass who I admired. Her character was freaking phenomenal.
The writing was fabulous. Nelson really did an outstanding job here.
I read that this is going to be a series and I sure hope so.
PS.... If you need a advanced reader on book two! I'm so your girl! 👋😘

Thank you so much for the amazing opportunity to read your novel! It was an honor
I will post to my platforms closer to pub date!

Ara is the last female alive and after months of being alone she meets Kaden and he takes her captive but Ara is a fighter and determined to find her way back home, back to the beginning.

I couldn't put this book down! The characters were easy to follow and feel invested in, the ending left me wanting more, and the concept was something that fed into my love of dystopia.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to read what comes next!

3/5
When I read the synopsis I was ecstatic. It was like the hunger games meet the 100 and I mean what more could you ask for in a book?

When I first started reading I felt a bit of disappointment. The writing style felt simple and the character's relationships were a bit weird.

This is the story of Ara and Kaden. They're two teens who find themselves survivors of the apocalypse. What makes Ara so special? She might possibly be the last female on the planet. Along with most of humanity, all of the women in the world have been wiped out by a plague that has effected both human and animals. Why are women more susceptible than men? No one knows.

Ara spends most of the book trying to get away from the Clan, a group of young men who take her captive multiple times. Though Kaden whos also apart of the Clan seems different then the rest and him and Ara fall for each other FAST and they both work together to get away from the Clan.

Despite the flaws I did enjoy this book and the plot grabbed my attention and I'll be reading the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for provinding me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, I have to say I enjoyed this book even more than I thought I would! It was a great take on the whole 'end of the world scenario'. It also was a surprisingly easy quick read!

I really enjoyed the MC, she wasn't whiny and was a good strong character(even if there were times I wanted to throttle her) and her love interest.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but I do recommend reading this book if you want a good take on Dystopian fantasy that's also an easy read!

After a virus wipes out the children and the women of the world, Ara finds herself as the lone female survivor. When she is captured by Kaden and his clan of men, she has no idea what is in store for her. All she wants to do is go back home and hopefully find her father.

This post-apocalyptic story was everything I could have wanted. My interest was piqued immediately. It has a real Walking Dead vibe in the sense that the characters need to learn to survive in a world that is nothing like it was before.

I found the characters to be really well fleshed out. I grew to love some of them. I also loved to hate some of them! It's a great read that I highly recommend.

The Last She by H. J. Nelson was fascinating, while it was not for me, it was an interesting read! I would like to see more from this author in the future.

The Last She piqued my interest as it was described as The 100 meets The Hunger Games. Once I start a good book, it's almost impossible for me to put it down. I read it in a day. The Last She is a dystopian post-apocalyptic novel set in a world where a virus has killed off the majority of the human race except for some male survivors. Ara, a nineteen year old girl, has somehow survived in the world during the three years since the world as they knew it seemingly ended

This is one of those times when I feel like I am reading a different book than most other reviewers. Unlike a lot of other readers, I felt this book had an overdone plot with no depth or real backstory for any of the characters. I think there was supposed to be a love triangle, but I’m honestly not sure. Gabriel made no sense as a character, so he was an uninteresting “villain.” Ara and Kaden? The reader surmises that they have all these deep conversations in order to justify their connection, but we are not privvy to any of the details. Plot twists? I guess, but they don’t go anywhere. The cliffhanger at the end implies that this story is going to go on a whole new tangent. No questions are answered, only more questions. You can draw a lot of comparisons to other books in the genre, but this one is nothing special.

Talk about setting a scene and pushing me into an adventure! It's a unique premise in a post-apocalyptic world where a horrible disease turns animals into huge, ravaging beasts and makes eyes bleed. It kills mainly women, but it is contagious. The idea of a woman surviving is so surreal, but we have Ara, the main character. She is surviving and trying to find some clues to help her find her way in this world. Then there is a Kaden, a man who doesn't quite fit in, but it loved and protected by so many. These characters are so flawed and I could see them going page by page on this adventure.
The dual perspectives was super awesome to read. I love seeing this different ways they are living and I feel like they were very distinct. The side characters hold such an important part in this book and they really do bring the adventure and the suspense with them.
When this comes out, you NEED to read it! I am loving the sci-fi feels while still being very down-to-earth and relatable. I connected with this book is plenty of ways, and if there is more to this book, I am here for it!
5/5 stars!!!

I absolutely loved this book. You have an amazing story line plot, challenges and romance. There’s a lot of character development as well. And the characters connection is fantastic
It leaves you wanting more and incapable of being able to put it down.

THE LAST SHE is about Ara and Kaden, who are our two POVs. Ara is presumed to be the last girl on earth due to a deadly plague that targeted women, children, animals and some men. Kaden is part of a clan of men who are surviving in this post-apocalyptic world. Ara has been surviving on her own for three years after her father mysteriously doesn't show up at a "return" point. When Ara is captured by Kaden, he brings her to his clan to find out more on why she survived and if there are more like her.

I really like the whole premise. The story reminds me of The 100, Maze Runner, and Chaos Walking. Ara is a strong independent character and I like how she is developed throughout the whole book. I feel like Kaden got a little shunted in the development but I still very much liked his character arc. I am unsure if there is a sequel due to the ominous last chapter and Epilogue but if there isn't I'm fine with the open ending. It would leave us in our own imagination of what may of happened next.

A big thank you to Wattpad books and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions expressed are entirely my own. I was pretty excited for this book as I often find dystopian books fun to read. The book was very fast-paced, which was nice and the plot was kinda interesting. However, I was not the biggest fan of the writing and characters. The storyline also seemed a bit all over the place at times. I also thought the romance in the book wasn't very good. The book wasn't really bad, but I didn't enjoy it and wouldn't recommend it. I do think some people might enjoy this book due to how fast-paced and exciting it is but it wasn't for me.

I was instantly caught by the premise of this book. It is a really interesting theme and I was so excited to receive this arc.

The author put a lot of work into developing this world and creating a heroine that is brave, but realistic. I enjoyed how the author fleshed out how the disease spread and how our world crumbled into this madness. I definitely think this piece deserves a sequel to continue to develop the story.

My one critique is that the romance felt a little forced in the beginning. I think it could have waited to develop fully until we were further into the plot.

I can't wait to read more from this author in the future!
