When I read the synopsis for this book I was stoked. It seemed like a feminist dystopian novel. The 100 meets the hunger games. What more could you ask for?

Once I began reading, I found myself disappointed. The writing style was very simplistic, the relationships awkward, and little to no justification for most of the plot. I found myself wanting something more.

Well let’s get into it

This is the story of Ara and Kaden. They are two teens that find themselves survivors of the apocalypse. What makes Ara special? She’s possibly the last female in existence. Along with most of humanity, all of the women in the world have been wiped out by a plague that has effected both human and animals. Why are women more susceptible than men? No one knows.

Ara spends most of the book fighting to get away from the Clan, a group of young men who take her captive multiple times. Kaden is among this group but he seems different from the rest. Seemingly instantly they fall for each other and battle to find a way out for the both of them.

Along the way Ara is following clues, left behind by her father. Could this be the key to understanding the plague or finding her family?

Despite the writing style and the HUGE emphasis on a one sided love triangle, the plot genuinely captures your attention. I ended the book wanting to know what will happen next. I will definitely still read the next book despite the flaws of the first.

Strong characters, adventures in a treacherous world, and masterful writing made The Last She impossible to put down. As soon as I finish this review, I’ll be on the hunt for the second installment!

3.5 stars* This was a really interesting book! Following a disease that killed off almost all the women on earth, a teenage girl is left to figure out how to survive by herself. I enjoyed reading about Arabella, I liked how realistic she seemed to me, not being super hardcore and looking for her family which is more real than a lot of dystopian books that make the girls instant hardcore warriors. The only thing I wished was there was a little more development with the characters... sometimes it felt like I was supposed to love a character because the book wanted me to but never really put in the work to bring me that connection. That being said... that epilogue, woo!

I absolutely loved this book! From beginning to end it kept me interested. I loved how when it came to POV it was only the two main characters! The romantic sexual tension built up between Kaden and Ara was perfection. I really hope for a sequel!

For the most part I did enjoy this book. There were a few things that I had issues with though like certain things not getting fully explained or explored in this book such as the man who died at the medical facility. I also wanted to like Ara and Kaden as a couple more, but the passion and chemistry just wasn’t totally there for me.

On the other hand, this was a book with lots of twists and turns that had me wanting to keep reading in order to find out what happens next. In fact, I am looking forward to reading the next book in this installment.

I hated this book so much that I couldn't write a review. Instead, I recorded a ranting podcast which is linked with this submission.

As far as YA dystopias go, this one was pretty standard. I liked the world, and it kept my attention, but I just didn't like the main character. I don't like the insta-love trope, and it really annoyed me in this book. It's still a solid dystopia for teens, but wasn't my thing.

The Last She paints a dire picture of an apocalyptic world with a different twist—the world is dominated by men. Scary for a young woman alone with just her wits! But the main character, Ara, rises to the task, exerting her independence and showing them how to operate in a cruel world.

Women have contracted a deadly disease, and Ara believes she’s the last woman on earth. She has survived for three years without her family but must get back home to find her father and sister. Ara meets Kaden and Sam, who strive to protect her after she is captured by their clan. Together they forge a new life, gathering food and supplies for the clan until she meets Gabriel, the leader and her world falls apart. But her goal is to go back to the beginning to find her father’s truth, so she must escape.

The Last She is a beautiful story about hope, family, survival, and friendship. The protagonists have grit, loyalty, and determination. And the shocking, open ending is leading toward a sequel. I thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review it.

i got this book for free in exchange of an honest review from netgallery.
First thoughts about this books, its kind a mix of the white plague with the book of the unnamed midwife, but Arabela our main character, more know as Ara, she alreaday has the ideia that she is the last female, and she must keep herself away from men to be safe, because like her father said before disapearing, there arent good men anymore, she can't trust them... well hunger made her follow a group of men to try and stell some food and at least a weapon, but fate made her to be capturated by them instead. I dont know what i was hoping but after 3 years i though this could be more chalenging than how it was in this book, but without spoilers, it seems that this sickness can infect animals and men as well but its fatal, many characters had to kill loved ones when they showed syptoms... uhmm i did like this book, and i did like the other main character as well kaden, uhmm i was also hoping for some romance hahah i am an hopeless romantic. anyway its a good book to pass some time.

ahh but people that hate cliffangers may want to wait to read until the next one comes out, ^__~

Post-apocalyptic, only female left in the human race?
What’s a girl to do?

SURVIVE

I devoured this book, in nearly one sitting. Impressive? Not nearly as impressive as this revolving story, and heroine. I found myself entranced by the idea of the world after a virus strikes females and animals. Questioning how Ara is to survive, but our girl is resilient and resourceful. She’s survived three years alone, on the run, with one rule and one goal.

There are no such things as friendly men, Ara. Not in this world. Not for you.
I made a mistake, we all did . . . go back to the beginning . . . it’s not too late.

Kaden is the sweetest, his passion for life and over all good attitude with the cards the universe left him is infections. He’ll have you rooting for him in no time.

This story is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for December for y’all to pick it up! But be warned, the minute you start….it will suck you in and take you on a wild ride of survival, friendship, and belonging. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, sweating, thinking “how will they survive this?”

A HUGE thank you to Watt Pad Books, NetGalley and H. J. Nelson for gifting me an eARC of this incredible story! This review is being left voluntarily, all opinions/thoughts are my own.

I couldn't put this down! I read it through NetGalley. The story is so refreshing in the dystopian world. I loved it from the beginning and it broke my heart a few times! There was always something new for Ara and the boys to hurdle over. The writing is so good it really puts you in the story. I fell in love with all the characters even the bad ones. I can't wait to read the next ones!

This ARC was provided to me by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

Oh. Em. Gee. I haven’t read a post apocalyptic book that good in a really really long time.

After losing her mother and sister to the plague that killed all women in the world, and large majority of the men, Ara becomes separated from her father and must complete his quest of finding a cure for the plague. But being the last woman alive, she finds herself held captive by a clan of men who hold her against her will “for her protection”. *trigger warning for violence and attempted sexual assault*

Holy Shiznit, this book was so good. It was captivating and held your eyes to the pages because you just HAD to find out what happens next. It was action packed and an amazing enemies to lovers trope. You fall in love with all the characters and so many morally grey characters throughout the book. I can’t believe I read this so early and now I have to wait FOREVER for the next one to come out!!!!
