A witty, entertaining and gripping urban fantasy that kept me hooked.
I had a lot of fun in reading it and loved the world building, the tightly knitted plot and the well thought characters.
I hope this is the first in a series because I'd be happy to read other books featuring these characters.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Murphy's Law for Demons

[Blurb goes here]

I had a lot of fun reading this title, the characters —well, all except one- are well thought out. The story is unexpected, it feels a bit of what the TV Series 'Lucifer' should have been. The story is gritty, gory, but still, as I said, fun to read.

I only have one problem with this book, her name is Joy. I'm not going to talk about her day or night jobs, which where great. It was her personality, suddenly -maybe one third into the book— she turns too perky and upbeat to be bearable. Don't get me wrong, hints of it would have been nice, but this gall takes it to the extreme, an utterly annoying extreme. There where instances when I even tried unsuccessfully to block her out, unfortunately she ends up figuratively fighting for the main character's roll.

Still, with this obvious fault, this was a great read.

Thank you NetGalley for the free copy.

Perfect for fans of pratchett and gaiman's Good Omens. An interesting take on Angel's, the fallen and humanities free will. A great read!

A fallen angel that does the devil’s accounting gets called up to be the Collector. He has to take a pure soul before he can go home. Problem is, he isn’t very good at it and has been the Collector for 50 years. While mourning his latest failed job he finds kinship with a psychiatrist/hit woman and they get called on by Leviathan to search for his missing “pet” that is withholding valuable information.

I really enjoyed this and loved the author’s dark witty sense of humor and the personality she puts into her characters. Fans of Tad William’s Bobby Dollar series, Christopher Moore’s Grim Reaper series, Dead Like Me tv series, and Good Omens will absolutely appreciate this book. I read that there will be a second book and am looking forward to it.

The cover is what first attracted me. Then I was hooked from the first chapter. I loved the characters; they were well written and fun. The story line was great. I’ve just started reading urban fantasy and they can be hit or miss for me. This was definitely a hit.

I could relate to Joy. Her and Murphy were my favorite characters. The banter between them made me laugh. I also shed some tears.

I also really enjoyed the little quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The fit in perfectly.

I can’t wait to get a physical copy of this book. I recommend this book for fans of urban fantasy who are ok with some gore.

I hope there’s more coming with these characters!

Found it pretty hard to get into this one, and I find it highly implausible how the characters get together and form their odd friendship which made it difficult to get into. But I did get into it eventually, character development was good, and it felt like a fresh take on the whole Hell thing.

I ended up enjoying this book way more than I anticipated when I began it. The first few chapters, 12 percent of the Kindle version, was a slow burn and bored me a bit. It was mainly dialogue between the two characters that I just didn't care for. I'm so glad it picked up after that.

The characters, Murphy and Joy, were extremely likeable. I even liked Bell quite a bit. Joy could be childish at times; considering her occupation I was surprised, but I guess having fun would help with the dark aspect of her work. Murphy was a fantastic main character and I loved watching his friendship it Joy blossom.

The storyline was great and kept my attention. There were a few action scenes, but the content throughout was enough to keep me wanting more. I ended up finishing this book in a day, it held my focus that well.

If you're into anything crime, mystery, adventure, or even thriller, you'll enjoy this. It reminded me a bit of the Rizzoli and Isles series but with the supernatural thrown in.

I look forward to the second in the series!

When I read the description, I really thought this book would be for me. Unfortunately, I was wrong and it wasn't. While the storyline is creative and original, I wasn't a huge fan of the characters and had a hard time connecting with the characters.

A very well written story with a very interesting premise. I loved the idea of a ‘fallen’ angel who isn’t so good at collecting the ONE soul he needs to get back to the Below. As much as I did enjoy it I didn’t find it incredibly original and there were some character development issues I had along the way. Overall, I did enjoy this book and would be happy to return to this world again.

Truthfully, I initially thought I wouldn't finish the book. I'm not usually found of books featuring angels, not sure why, they just don't seem interesting. In this book, the demons weren't that interesting, neither is Murphy. He's not as developed as Joy. The beginning was rather slow and redious with a lot of back and worth tlk between Murphy and Joy that didn't engage me.

Somewhere along the way I began to care about the characters and their relationship and was even sad at the end. I appreciated that Joy stayed true to herself all the way to the end and that we didn't get the safe ending I was expecting.

So, while this didn't have the kick butt, non-stop action (there is enough action and, yes, some characters get hurt...badly) and some of the characters could have used a bit more fleshing out, it interested me enough to want to find out if there will be more Murphy and Joy adventures.

Witty, fun, full of twists and wonderful characters. This is a fascinating one sitting read. I do hope this isn't the end of Joy and Murphy's story. Loved the wisdom and fight of her grandmother. Never judge a demon by its status.

The synopsis and cover art led me to believe that this would be right up my alley. Alas, I was wrong.

I couldn't get into this book. The characters were one dimensional and not very relateabĺe.

On a side note, the quotes at the beginning of each chapter weren't very humorous and didn't at to the story.

I was given a free ARC and I am leaving my honest review.

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover - it’s so pretty!

Murphy’s Law For Demons has two amazing characters, Murphy and Joy. I enjoyed both of their perspectives and I think they make such a great team, so if there is ever a sequel, I’d love to read it.

Every chapter starts with some witty comment that fits perfectly with the content. The entire book has an amazing balance of humor and horror and the writing style made it a quick read- I read it in one sitting in just about 3 hours! This is CJ Pierce’s first novel, and I think she did an amazing job.

Warning! Although it came with a warning of excessive violence, I took it lightly and let me tell you: this is not a book for the faint of heart.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free online ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I saw this book, and I was definitely intrigued as it’s right up my urban fantasy genre alley. I started this book, and like some books, I wasn’t sure I would like this. Boy, was I completely wrong. Once I got into it, I was hooked. Murphy is a Collector who just can’t seem to catch a break, and Joy is someone who ended up where she was because of a very, very bad incident (not for the faint of heart when she talks about it). This is a wonderful mix of UF, horror, gore, humor, sadness, and, dare I say it, joy that you just can’t help but love the characters. This isn’t a perfect book with some dropped threads, but they might be addressed in future books. Joy and Murphy worked so very well together, and after that end, I hope they can continue to be able to work together. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Perhaps it's just not my cup of tea; the clever premise had promise but runs aground with its one-dimensional cast of characters, wooden and poorly worded writing, and worldbuilding that's left pretty wanting (though the author did demonstrate some depth of research done).
