In a touching tale of encouragement and perseverance, a young boy makes a MAMMOTH of a discovery: spending time with your family is a real treasure. This is an excellent story to motivate children to keep working...you never know what you will discover.

The Deepest Dig is about a boy who discovers a bone in his backyard and his parents and teacher dismiss it as not possible but his neighbor believes he has something special so she helps him unearth the bones that turn into a Wooly Mammoth. Honestly, I'm not sure I like this story. It's kind of sad that the parents don't have as much faith in him as the neighbor does. What kind of example does this set for the younger kids this seems geared towards?

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.

Caden and his dog discover something in his yard. It's not a post, not a stone and not a root. His neighbour, Martha, tells him he's found a treasure. He rushes in to tell his father, but his father dismisses him. Caden, undeterred, gets a shovel and begins to dig.

Soon he finds something "curved up like a dirty old claw." He continues digging.

He tells his mother he's found a treasure. She laughs it off.

Caden, with Martha's help, continues to dig and excavate massive bones from the earth. She tells him, "It's only a treasure if it's put together."

He tells his teacher, Mr Clerkson, that he's found something like the prehistoric mammoth he showed them. In response, the teacher claims, he'd eat his hat if Caden actually found one.

Martha and Caden attempt to assemble the bones. Their reconstructions end up with some pretty hilarious combinations. When they think they have it right Caden brings his parents to view it.

In the end they sell the skeleton to a museum and Caden and his family's financial woes are over. They end up travelling the world with the mammoth telling the story of it's discovery. His teacher has a hat eating fundraiser.

I like Lily Snowden-Fine's colourful artwork. I like the persistence Caden shows. No matter what, he doesn't give up and continues to dig.

From an adult's perspective, the message in this book is to really listen to what your children are saying. For children it's to not listen to naysaying parents and teachers.

What bugs me about this book is that it says it is inspired by a true event, but then tells nothing about it!

The Deepest Dig is about Caden, a boy who finds something in his backyard. Although he is convinced that he has found a treasure, the people in his life do not believe him. He tells his father, his mother and his teacher, and all disbelieve him immediately, without getting more information. Still, Caden perseveres. He pulls out his huge discovery, and everyone is in shock and awe.

This book is a great book to teach kids perseverance, and how to stick with things, even when others don't believe you or judge you. This book has great illustrations, and was eye catching for both myself and my toddler. Great message and overall wonderful book. I would definitely recommend and use this in a classroom setting.

Thank you to the Author, Illustrator, publisher and .Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Deepest Dig by Mark David Smith is about a boy who is trying to figure out what is hidden in his backyard. As he talks with his parents, they ignore his "treasure" until he gets help from his neighbor to find a mammoth. The Deepest Dig would be a great book for kids to read and I'd place in a classroom library. I would not use this as a read aloud or in book clubs.

This was a great book. I loved the pictures. They were adorable. And the plot was great too. The kids I read this book to really loved it too!

I liked the premise of the story, but it was lacking. In details, in character development, in plot, etc. Even the artwork, which I’m sure was meant to be minimalistic, was lacking. Sorry.

I wish this story had been told slightly more dramatically, especially toward the end. Some facts about mammoths and prehistoric times would also have been great to flesh out the excitement? Lily Snowden-Fine's illustrations are sweet and lush in a way that makes even minor details captivating and beautiful, and the mammoth assembly interpretations are super fun.

This is a children's book that I read to my twin boys. I loved this book, but it also show me as an adult how much I really do not listen to my kids. It made me ask myself how many times my kids came to me saying they found something cool or did something cool. I love that there is a hide message from adults and kids in this book. My boys loved the red truck in this book so much. I think this book as something for all ages. This is a cute book that shows kids that sometimes they just got to keep going and prove things to adults that do not believe them. I love the pictures in this book. This is a very cute book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Owlkids) or author (Mark David Smith) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that. This book is schedule to be release on August 15-2021.
