If you want a horror book with a spooky atmosphere and supernatural entities then this book has to be on your list. I am a fan of demonic deals and the consequences. Thoroughly enjoyed the horror elements of the books.

Thank You NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Autumn Falls by A. R. Kingston in exchange for an honest review. I have to go on record and say I love creepy, disturbing books like this. The story starts one way and your thinking that it's going to just be a book about an abused woman fighting for a normal life with her son, but there's more, there's always more. Enter in a creepy town where nothing is what it seems. Where a deal was made many years ago that is now due. Where crows stalk little boys and the dead don't stay dead. What a delicious story to read late at night!

I was only to complete a few chapters in this book before it was taken off my shelf and archived (completely my fault). This book was the right amount of creepy/scary and eerie that I needed in my life. Now that I have more time in my life to sit and read, I will be purchasing Autumn Falls and finishing it. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity I was given to read this amazing Horror book!

This book was a total mind melt and I didn’t honestly know what was going on. Was filled with typos and grammar errors that made it very hard to follow so after 50% I had to sadly DNF it.

NetGalley offered this book in exchange for a honest review, so here it is. I loved the description of this book but could not make myself like or even feel for the main character, Charlotte... How am I supposed to root for someone or even care about what happens to them if they're not very likeable? Then came the imagery, & I finally put the book down. I don't even know if I made it a quarter through, not my cup of tea. If you're looking for horror look elsewhere.

Thanks to A R Kingston, Book Baby/ Keen Quill Press, and NetGalley for approving my request to read and review this book. I really enjoyed this. It read like a classic Horror movie from the 60s.

Held off reading this (admittedly, put off by other reviews), but finally got around to it and unfortunately, I found it disappointing.

The characters feel so cookie cutter and flat that, when the bad stuff happens (and it comes in spades by the second act), I just didn't care about the survival of the characters.

The beginning seems like a good place to start (both with the book and the review!) and it was from the very start that I was in two minds about this one... Straight away, we were launched into the story, with a lot happening in such a short of space time that you'd be forgiven for thinking the author was going straight for the shock factor and not focusing on much else.

As we progressed through the story I was gradually drawn in, and as the intrigue built so did the sense of fear and foreboding. The author definitely managed to create a creepy and eerie atmosphere. Sadly, though, towards the end of this book when it reached the climax this atmosphere seemed to fade away.

I felt the same with the writing style as well, to begin with it was excellent I was getting goosebumps, paranoia and I kept looking over my shoulder, it was well written and captivating. It was confusing, but not in a bad way, in a way that keeps you guessing and makes you want to keep reading to find out what's happened. But that did taper off and I started to feel as if the fear factor was missing.

I started feeling as if I wanted the book to just hurry up and get to the point...

Character wise, I felt these were the poorest part of the book. They just didn't stand out for me, they weren't as well written as the descriptive aspects were and they felt very 2D. I couldn't feel anything for them, which as we reached the climax of the book became an issue because I didn't care if they survived.

I also feel as though first person would have benefited this book and perhaps endeared the characters more to the reader.

The overall entertainment value of this book just didn't hit the spot for me either. Some of the more superficial details that make the story were just unnecessary and didn't add value, and the more menial details seemed too easy - for example, how easy it was for Kevin to walk back into their lives. It was too simple.

Overall, Autumn Falls just didn't feel right to me, it didn't have the right flow to the story, which wasn't helped by the dips in the atmosphere and writing and the poor characters. The plot itself and the intrigue the story built were definitely there, and they elevated the book and did bring some enjoyment from Autumn Falls. Sadly, this just wasn't the finished product in my eyes.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book. Full disclaimer:I was too scared to read the entire book. If you are looking for a scary story, look no further. I read the first few chapters, and was too scared to carry on. This is a great horror story for those of you that are into them. I liked what I read in the beginning, it was just a level too scary for my taste.

I loved the idea of what this book could be but it just didn't pull it off. I disliked the main character I really didn't care what happened to them. Not a bad book but not really for me.

I love the book cover, the setting and core of the story, the ambience, it succeeded in creating a sense of mystery and creepiness. However, I don't get the characters. I just, I don't understand why their relationships are so cheesy. And how about their reactions to the not-so-normal events that happened on the island!

This totally nailed the horror vibe, though!

While this book certainly had an interesting underlying plot in regard to the horror, I found the characters and story flow itself to be a bit disjointed. The characters seemed a bit flat and one-dimensional and seemed to not be very connected to the world and what was happening around them. The story itself, however, moved fairly quickly and the horror aspect was certainly fleshed out in gruesome detail. As I mentioned, the underlying plot of the who/what/why/where/how of the horror was very interesting, and while reading I didn't want to put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen next! I feel that this horror aspect could have even been further fleshed out, as there were so many interesting points that could have been expanded further.

horror stories always kept me hooked on and this book did!
although, it is kinda predictable as it goes but still I did enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this one. Sometimes horror novels seem to fall a bit flat, but this kept my interest the entire time. I just couldn’t put it down!

The book was ok. It was little slow and bit creepy. Just wasn’t for me. I am not someone who will say not to read a book because it wasn’t for me. Everyone has different tastes just because I wasn’t in love with it doesn’t mean someone else won’t absolutely love it so definitely give it a try!

Thank you to publisher and NetGalley for this read. I will definitely give the authors next books a try!

I do not seem to be getting lucky on NetGalley these days. This was just cliche after cliche and the writing is not at all strong enough to make up for it.

"Always make the audience suffer as much as possible." (Alfred Hitchcock)

And suffering is at the core of this one. Suffering within, suffering throughout, and suffering until the last page.

Horror is a delicate matter. Draggin' bucketfuls and dowsing every single paragraph and around every single corner is a bit of overkill. (Oh, pun intended!) And the overuse of "coincidence" is a death knoll for any novel. Autumn Falls was lined with situations that had to be bent into shape to bounce the next incident off of. Oh, so contrived.........

Charlotte Briggs is a twenty-five year old paramedic searching for a new option in life. She's got a nine year old son, Kevin, whom she had at a very young age. Charlotte's life has been lined with stress, trauma, and uncertainty. Yup, that's why our girl is salivating for the opportunity to jump at the chance to live on an isolated island on the coast of Maine that's wrapped in fog and slimey people 24/7. The country is full of wide-open places, but this opportunity has her name in bright letters.

The town of Autumn Falls has set up Charlotte and Kevin in a hotel established in 1909 until they find more permanent quarters. Right off the bat, Charlotte wakes the first night with the Creep factor pouring in and an image of the Pig Man whom we will get to know up close and personal. And this stuff bangs in night after night. Charlotte has no problem leaving young Kevin on his own. He attends a school with zombie-like students as well. Wake up, Charlotte. Your pants are on fire, and yet, you don't feel the burn.

Charlotte's team of paramedics are on call with gruesome accidents taking place every nano second. Just on and on and on. Horror falls flat without a solid storyline to back it up. I'll be honest. The cover on this chaos drew me in. Love me some Creep when it's dabbled in with the finesse of a steady hand. Not happenin' here. Autumn Falls had potential. Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda.......

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to BooksGoSocial (Keen Quill Press) and to A.R. Kingston for the opportunity.

Autumn Falls by A.R. Kingston is beautifully written. With a fitting title it is perfectly suited for the eerie island town in Main. The anticipation, and spooky eeriness of the plot kept me interested. After looking for a good novel I feel this was exactly what I needed. A little bit of horror mixed into a well thought out storyline, the descriptive and interesting characters were wonderfully written and described. The monsters also were round and the author did very good making sure they were also avoiding being flat. I do think some of the dialogue was interesting and there was a little bit of a forced connection between Charlotte and some of the people she met while in the town. The spookiness and weirdness of the characters she interacts with did a good job of contributing to the overall feeling the author was trying to create. However most people in Charlotte's situation are not so forthcoming with information, and are not so eager to trust in things that are too good to be true.

I am looking forward to reading more books by A.R. Kingston.

I received this book from the publishers via Netgalley for a review. Loved the story would have gave it four stars but for being too clichéd. This author's first foray into horror not a bad effort.

This book… *sigh*

Autumn Falls is a bad book. But we’ll get to that.

Charlotte, our main character, is on the run from an abusive relationship. She’s taken her son and moves around a lot. Out of the blue she’s offered a seemingly perfect job in an idyllic town.

As one does when offered a job you didn’t apply for in a town you’ve never heard of, she snatches it up and hauls her son and herself to a quiet little town in Maine— it might have been an island… details are fuzzy.

Anyhoo, of course as soon as she gets to town weird things start happening. Bad things happen, people from her past show up and more bad things happen.

I didn’t enjoy this book. It’s poorly written and full of cliches. A lot of the time cliches aren’t a bad thing. We all have our favorite tropes, but when the writing is terrible it just seems to shine a light on all the bad things.

The main character seems flat, not fully fleshed out. If the main character is off putting and dull that doesn’t bode well for secondary characters. No one here is memorable. I didn’t find myself rooting for any of them.

All in all I’m giving this a 1 star review.

I was given an advanced copy by NetGalley for review.
