Description

Twenty-five years ago, a deal was made to save a child’s life. Now the time has come for someone to pay the price.

Paramedic Charlotte Briggs is a woman on the run. Having escaped an abusive man with her son, she lives out of motels until a mysterious call offers her a job in a sleepy, fog-locked town of Autumn Falls.

At first, the picturesque New England town, situated off the coast of Maine, seems like an ideal place to raise her son, until strange things begin to happen. At first, it’s just the crows following her around the island and the frightful creature lurking in the shadows. Then, the accidents start. Gruesome, bloody accidents unlike any she’d ever seen before. The island is thirsty for human blood. The dead also don’t stay dead. They either return to warn her or threaten her, and Charlotte suspects that not all is well in her new town.

Digging into the island’s past, Charlotte won’t only unearth its supernatural secrets, but also solve the mystery of her own link to this cursed chunk of rock in the Atlantic.

Autumn Falls by A.R. Kingston is beautifully written. With a fitting title it is perfectly suited for the eerie island town in Main. The anticipation, and spooky eeriness of the plot kept me interested. After looking for a good novel I feel this was exactly what I needed. A little bit of horror mixed into a well thought out storyline, the descriptive and interesting characters were wonderfully written and described. The monsters also were round and the author did very good making sure they were also avoiding being flat. I do think some of the dialogue was interesting and there was a little bit of a forced connection between Charlotte and some of the people she met while in the town. The spookiness and weirdness of the characters she interacts with did a good job of contributing to the overall feeling the author was trying to create. However most people in Charlotte's situation are not so forthcoming with information, and are not so eager to trust in things that are too good to be true.

I am looking forward to reading more books by A.R. Kingston.

I really enjoyed this one. Sometimes horror novels seem to fall a bit flat, but this kept my interest the entire time. I just couldn’t put it down!

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book. Full disclaimer:I was too scared to read the entire book. If you are looking for a scary story, look no further. I read the first few chapters, and was too scared to carry on. This is a great horror story for those of you that are into them. I liked what I read in the beginning, it was just a level too scary for my taste.

I was only to complete a few chapters in this book before it was taken off my shelf and archived (completely my fault). This book was the right amount of creepy/scary and eerie that I needed in my life. Now that I have more time in my life to sit and read, I will be purchasing Autumn Falls and finishing it. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity I was given to read this amazing Horror book!

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Autumn Falls by A. R. Kingston in exchange for an honest review. I have to go on record and say I love creepy, disturbing books like this. The story starts one way and your thinking that it's going to just be a book about an abused woman fighting for a normal life with her son, but there's more, there's always more. Enter in a creepy town where nothing is what it seems. Where a deal was made many years ago that is now due. Where crows stalk little boys and the dead don't stay dead. What a delicious story to read late at night!

If you want a horror book with a spooky atmosphere and supernatural entities then this book has to be on your list. I am a fan of demonic deals and the consequences. Thoroughly enjoyed the horror elements of the books.
