You get to decide for main character Rabbit what she does in the story of her and her parents moving to a new very haunted house. Starting with a switch of backpacks with the neighbour girl, rabbit is thrown into incredible situations where small decisions have big outcomes. While for middle-grade readers, it still packed quite a punch on the graphic scares.

Choose your own adventure stories are so much fun and this was definitely a fun one. The illustrations on each page were very good and the stories varied greatly. This kept my interest when wanting to try different paths. Unique stories that really did change based on your decisions, this would be a great book for any middle-grade learner or anyone who enjoys choose you own adventure type books.

There's nothing quite like a classic chose your own adventure novel, and adding a flare of graphic novel makes this even more exciting. It's hard to say that I've read the entirety of this book, as there are so many endings to choose from, but since everything from monsters and witches to middle school pranks could be the result, I enjoyed flipping through the story to find out what might happen next.

The story begins as Rabbit (you) move into a dusty old house the day before Halloween. It's immediately apparent that something isn't right. The house itself has some unexpected quirks, and the neighbors are definitely up to something. Just by flipping through the pages, you get to decide which direction the story will take. The illustrations are beautiful, and the scenarios are just spooky enough to keep me at the edge of my seat. This is a perfect Halloween book for readers who want a mild scare.

I did enjoy this but it wasn't my favorite. Maybe I didn't read it with the right format and I might pick this back up later on.

The story begins quite quickly and really introduces the concept in a few pages. This family has just moved into the neighbourhood's haunted house, where strange things lurk in the darkness.
I’ve never read a 'choose your own adventure' before (but wanted to for a while), so I’m very glad this was the first one I decided to try out. The art was gorgeous, and I loved the little details and gruesome depictions throughout.

I think the different endings are great fun; since there’s a lot, you could read one/two a day and get something new each time. It’s definitely something I can see myself returning to when the mood strikes.

4/5 A fun quick read with good art.

I tried to read all of this and find all the paths but there's maybe a fourth that I couldn't figure out the path to but I enjoyed what I did read and I think this would be a perfect read for elementary-middle grade readers.

There were quite a few plot holes throughout the different endings but that's to be expected from this kind of story so I didn't mark it down. I loved how quick this was despite me going in and reading as many paths as I could.

Disclaimer: I read this arc on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Most people are familiar with choose your own adventure books, and this first jump for the brand into graphic novels is a great addition to the series. The main concept revolves around Rabbit, an eighth grader whose ghost hunting parents just moved them into a super haunted house. The house allegedly belonged to a notorious and rather villainous witch, and with the book set around Halloween, there's a lot of spooky events that take place. The book features a ton of different endings, a mix of bad, good, and neutral, though it seemed like the bad ends outweighed the others. There's two things that the creator did that I really liked: for most of the action, the main character is out of frame, forcing the reader to look at things from their pov. I felt that this provided a nice layer of immersion. Also, all of the ends can be read together to form an overarching plot. Some provide crucial information that impacts how you may choose in a different plot line, and reading through all of them will help readers find the 'truth' of the story, though I wouldn't say any one is the true ending. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, many of the endings were sufficiently creepy and there was enough of a connecting plotline to make seeking out all the endings compelling.

Yes! Finally, an official Choose Your Own Adventure graphic novel! What a funtastic, spooky adventure for daring young readers!

I came into this one with high expectations because I know a bunch of kids that are going to be clamoring for this title. The illustrations in this are very detailed and, at times, super creepy. I only hope that some of the page links will be repaired because at least one goes to the middle of a different storyline (utterly confusing). Endings are also quite sudden with little regard to explanations-which makes since given the transition from chapter to graphic, but it could leave kids with questions.

This was such a great choose your own adventure book!! There are so so many fates available that you can almost guarantee that your story will be different each time you read this. I personally ended up dying a bunch of times!!

The art was really great and so vibrant. I liked how you only rarely saw “yourself” as it added to the experience.

The supporting characters were very animated and entertaining. I laughed out loud multiple times and just had an overall good experience. Even though I kept kicking the bucket. There were a few mildly violent scenes, but nothing terrible. I recommend this as Middle Grade and up, especially those into horror books. Just don’t expect to survive every read through!!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Oni Press for allowing me to read this for me honest and unbiased opinion!!

Choose Your Own Adventure: Eighth Grade Witch is a graphic novel adaptation of a Choose Your Own Adventure story. In this story you and your family move into a house and enter a world of witches, zombies, and ghosts.

I read a lot of Choose Your Own Adventure books to my middle schoolers. They love being able control the story and since they were middle schoolers they also tried to be killed. My students also love graphic novels so this is the perfect combination of their favorite things. In the beginning of every traditional Choose Your Own Adventure novel it begins with a brief preview of the book and always says "You and You alone" I love that it was also included in the graphic novel.

The art is cute and it really makes you feel like you are Rabbit. Since you are the main character in a Choose Your Own Adventure book I absolutely loved that each panel is from Rabbit's perspective. There are 28 different endings in Eighth Grade Witch which gives you plenty of opportunities to make decisions. Since the review copy was in PDF format it was a little more difficult to flip back and forth between pages so I did not finish all 28 endings, but I have already preordered it through my local comic shop.

I read this with my daughter who loved that she got to control where the story went. We loved that we could keep going back and making new decisions each time which would lead to a different ending, It made this book a great story to be able to pick up and put down again without losing the focus of the read. We loved it

I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was younger, so I was super excited to see this graphic novel adaptation. This format really allows for the story to come alive and the colors were so vivid. The pdf version was a little tricky to read since you are flipping back and forth a lot, but I plan to pick up a copy for my shelves when this releases.

As an 80's kid, I have to say the CYOA books were simply THE BEST, and I still have a major soft spot for this kind of book. I really wanted to love "Eighth Grade Witch", and while some of the storylines absolutely were fun, there were others that felt a bit... lacking, or, at the other end of the spectrum, rather convoluted. This wasn't helped by the artwork, which I found too busy at times as well as hard to follow -- I think the book would have benefitted from a simpler, "cleaner" approach to actually get across what was happening to whom. (There was a line of CYOA graphic novels aimed at kids a while back, the "Twisted Journeys" books, which handled the graphic aspect a lot better, IMO.) While I wasn't too wild about the "eeeeew" factor of some of the storylines, I'm sure 13 y.o. me would have been delighted; still, these might be a bit much for certain kids. I loved seeing a friendly bull terrier pop up, as I really love these guys, but... it felt kind of pointless, I guess? Also, the Deadly Nightshades -- what was up with those girls? They got just the one storyline?!? I for one would have loved to spend more time with Fang (and a tad less with over-the-top Astrid).
One *major* issue I had, and of course it's a lethal one for this type of book, was the fact that the ARC suffered from some broken links; I usually map the progress I'm making via a tree structure so I don't miss out on any of the endings (yes, I'm that person), and sadly there were some dead ends as well as sections that simply could not be accessed by following the offered links. I'm specifically talking about the "Great great great grandmother" storyline (which did not make sense to me AT ALL), the "Three doors" (where did those come from? I had a really hard time making sense of the artwork), and the Zora/"Teacup, you smell like lavender" bit. These can only be read if you leaf through the book chronologically, which of course is not the way to do it.
There's also an obvious typo on p.55, where it says to turn to page 131 when in fact it has to be page 101. Also: page 36 should link to page 106 instead of p.136. I really, really hope these issues will be fixed by the time the finished book is published, or there will be some fairly unhappy readers out there.
All in all, I found this a great choice for the R.L. Stine crowd (as long as the issues mentioned above are fixed); maybe they'll even be able to figure out the artwork.

This reminded me of childhood, and I liked the way it was a graphic novel instead of normal prose. On my first go I died pretty quickly but second time I lasted slightly longer. Keep trying and find quite a few horrible ways to die! I didn't actually figure out the correct sequence but I think you can probably read this quite a few times to get a different story each time, maybe eventually you can survive.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review

This was a very fun comic. I think chose-your-own-adventures are always a lot of fun, and I always try to find all of the possible outcomes.

I would definitely recommend this to kids who are interested in witches or similar spooky themes.

I found a lot of the paths to be pretty abrupt. However, I can see that being fun for many readers even if it was not my personal favorite style.

I did have a few issues with this book that I hope will not be present in the final copy. However, I do feel like it is important to share the issues that I came across. First, navigating this choose-your-own-adventure book in a digital format was very difficult for me. I found it difficult to remember which pages I needed to return to in order to try to get a different ending, and found myself starting the whole story again just to find the right page number. It looks like there is a plan to include a map in the final book, so hopefully this makes that process easier.

I also think there was a typo with the page numbers in at least one scene. My reason for thinking this is that there is an important page that leads to many different endings (page 117), but I could not find any path that led to this page being an option. If this is a typo, I hope it gets fixed, because the endings that branched from this section were very interesting.

I got so excited to see this graphic novel as I’m a huge fan of the original Choose Your Own Adventure Books. As a child, my love for mystery novels/ whodunnits actually started when I read the first choose your own adventure book “Who killed Harlowe Thrombey?”

Coming back to this graphic novel, it’s so much fun to read. I absolutely love the art style, and I love all the choices one can make. A great little supernatural story! My kids loved it too. Looking forward to the upcoming graphic novels, with all my favorite CYOA stories! It’ll be amazing.

I always recommend CYOA stories to everyone with children because of the way they helped me build my imagination as a child, and turned me into an avid reader. The new form of CYOA stories are sure to be a hit with kids!

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader’s copy for an honest review.

I, a veteran of the original Choose Your Own Adventure books, did not realize this was a graphic novel when I requested it. That being said, it was cute. I was disappointed, wanting to sit down and read with my 8-year-old, but he LOVED it! He laughed and flipped and showed me pictures for a solid hour. He is an advanced reader but I think this would have score with anyone in the 8-12 range. Enjoyable addition to the old series, even though I still prefer the novel approach. Thanks for the ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the Choose Your Own Adventure series when I was a kid. When I saw this graphic novel, I wanted to see what this new form of Choose Your Own Adventure would be like.

I enjoyed the quick nature of the stories. On the flip side, I would have liked for some options to be longer and a bit more in-depth. Some of them ended suddenly, and I didn't get a sense of what the premise was.

As with many other graphic novels that I've read from NetGalley, I loved the art. I thought it matched the story very well, and it was easy to tell that the story was told from the first-person point of view. I believe that the Choose Your Own Adventure stories did this very well with a second-person point of view.

As I am now an older reader, I tried to think of this book in terms of a middle-grade reader. I believe that this graphic novel would be perfect for those looking for a different Choose Your Own Adventure.

This was a very entertaining read. I had never read something like this before, so I had fun making different decisions and discovering all the possible endings of the story, although some did not make sense to me, like some of them took a very big leap from one to the other, and it made no sense what was happening, however, others were very interesting to read, with unexpected events. What I liked the most was the mystery and fantasy that surrounded the story. It is a graphic novel with beautiful drawings and a very unique and fun way to read.
