This story started out promising but as it went on I had a hard time keeping with it. It is a dual timeline story about a woman who goes back to her small hometown for a class reunion. The flashbacks are when she was in school. The Thicket plays a primary role in the story. It is a forest full of mushrooms that the characters use as drugs. I think this is where the story lost me. Between the mushroom trips and the mystery character I struggled to keep up with the story.

Two cousins return home for a school reunion. The past has to be faced as their friend disappeared a long time ago and it was never resolved. This book was really slow to start and not really my cup of tea. A disappointing ending.

Total thriller, It's a gripping read and the stuff of nightmares. We had humour from TJ and other comments but its a fast moving great read. Strong characters who made me feel like being a part of the story. The ending was unexpected and its a book I would recommend.

I have to agree with other reviews that the blurb does not really match the book although the basic elements are present.

Having said that once I got into the book overall I enjoyed the story of T.J and Jane.

The story starts slowly but does pick up speed as it progresses.

There is a lot happening in this book: supernatural, part mystery , part science fiction.

She Never Left is worth the read and many readers will love it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins U.K. , One More Chapter for the privilege of reading and reviewing She Never Left.

This is pitched as Sharp Objects meets Stranger Things, and whilst it’s very clearly heavily influenced by Stranger Things, I really didn’t feel like it had any of the elements of a thriller. I deeply disliked the aspect of having chapters from the stalker’s point of view - personal preference but in the age of Me Too I’m totally disinterested in hearing from creepy men. I like and read sci-fi, so I pressed on with it, but it didn’t really work for me in that genre either. I think it’s because the characters were a bit passive - stuff happened to them rather than them actively doing stuff. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the slightly inconclusive ending. Overall this was a 2.5 stars for me, rounded up to 3 because the quality of the writing is good.

Cousins and writing partners Jane and TJ have carved out new lives for themselves amidst the skyscrapers of Chicago, a far cry from their hometown of Ketchum. Neither has returned since the night TJ's first crush, Evie, disappeared into the woods in a flash of amber light. Along with Jane's childhood friend - turned - stalker, Lincoln, they were the last people to see her alive.

Jane and TJ decide to attend their high school reunion. They come face to face with Lincoln, Jane's friend/stalker. It's twenty years since Evie disappeared into the woods they call the Thicket, and Jane TJ and Lincoln were the last people to see her. The Thicket is a creepy place. My biggest problem with this book is that it's more sci-fi than a thriller and I don't really read sci-fi novels. There's time warps, drugs, family secrets and much more packed into this book but it could not hold my attention. I also felt a lot of the loose ends were left dangling at the end.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUK #OneMoreChapter and the author #CMHarris for my ARC of #SheNeverLeft in exchange for an honest review.

I found She Never Left to be an OK read. I struggled to get into the story at first as there was just something that did not work for me and I found that the description of the book was very different to the actual story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Phew, magic mushrooms, psychedelic drugs, abuse, stalking, She Never Left by C M Harris has lots of this and more.

Sci-Fi thrillers have never been my strong point, so once the story about the thicket in the town of Ketchum began to take shape, I was in two minds about continuing the story. The expectation was a cold case of a friend missing for 20 years and how it has affected Jane and TJ, cousins as well as working partners but there are quite a lot of subject matters that characterize this atmospheric thriller.

C M Harris creates a spine-tingling creepy atmosphere with her vivid description of the woods and the Donzerely light so much that it is definitely gonna be hard for me to look at mushrooms again. The spider eyed mushroom had me in its clutches that I was sure I would be having nightmares. Amazingly, the author never gives off any on your face horror, coz there’s a slight fantasy element to the tale, but that gooey and under the skin itch that she crafted thru her writing was magnificent.

The story is told thru Jane and sometimes thru Lincoln and flashbacks keeps the reader reeled in even though the first part of the book is slow in pace. Some parts focus on the imagination of Jane and TJ once the hallucination begins and it generates a dizzy feeling for the reader and if this was done on purpose, then hats off to the author coz those sections literally make your head take a spin.

The love and intense need that TJ and Jane feel for each other was touching but knowing that they are both in their late 30’s and willingly acting immature never worked out well for me, and the behaviour repeats several times. The stalker angle thru Lincoln and his ramblings could not have been any more weirder.

She Never Left is a sci-fi thriller with spooky suspense that will be gobbled up by fans of the genre. Engaging 3.5 stars 💦 💦 💦 💧

This is an OK read, not terrible but not overly gripping either. There was something missing for me that it just doesn't quite gel together. I did the enjoy the idea behind it.

She Never Left by CM Harris is a so-so supernatural tale.

Jane and TJ are cousins who return to their hometown for a 20th reunion. By this town are dense woods called "the thicket" filled with a fungus that glows and can actively effect and infect humans. There is also a stalker named Lincoln who has had a crush on Jane since high school. The novel is filled with the two facing trauma and addictions from their past and the cause of their problems, something that might still be operating today and getting worse.

Chapters alternate between present day and twenty plus years earlier. There really never is any good reason produced for attending a 20th high school reunion in a creepy small town that you were happy to leave and where people seem to disappear on a regular basis, unless it is the psychedelic mushrooms. One of the most glaring problems with the whole novel is that all the characters talk as if they are still in high school in both time lines. This is more a science fiction tale and a drug trip rather than a mystery about disappearing people from a small town. Normally I can enjoy science fiction, but this wasn't quite it.

The blurb really excited me and thought yes this would be great, but the book is different from the blurb. Not the author's fault but it wouldn't have been one that I selected. I struggled with it to start but kept going, am glad that I did but it wasn't for me.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

The best way to describe She Never Left, is CREEPY!

This book was insane! I absolutely loved every bit of it and devoured it in one sitting. This is an intense, cat and mouse type of book that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time!

Jane and TJ went to high school together, when they get notice of their high school reunion they both agree to go. However, they do not know they will be coming face to face with Lincoln. Lincoln has his fair share of issues and has turned into a stalker of sorts.

Twenty years ago something happened to Evie. Lincoln, Jane and TJ were the last people to have seen her before she disappeared.

Lincoln has been haunted by what happened to Evie that night and everything is coming to light now, what will Lincoln do? Everyone knows he isnt stable.

I highly recommend this book to readers who love psychological thrillers! This also has a little bit of a sci-fi edge, I am not usually into sci-fi, but I can tell you that this was enjoyable!

Although there's a mystery here, it's not what you might expect as this is more of a sci-fi/horror novel. Cousins TJ and Jane are back in town for their twentieth reunion, a town they left after their friend Evie disappeared in an inexplicable whoosh in the woods. Then there's Lincoln, who stalked Jane and is, gotta tell you. quite creepy. This moves back and forth in time and perspective to tell the story of what happened then and what's going to happen now. It's an interesting premise but wasn't my cup of tea. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.
