Avery is a therapist gone rogue, whose unconventional techniques have helped people who needed pushing in the right direction. She's lost her license, but a magazine article about her practice has drawn in a plethora of new clients, including Marissa and Matthew Bishop. The Bishops are trying to recover their marriage after a bout of infidelity. But this seemingly perfect couple have a lot of skeletons in their closets that Avery will methodically scrape out piece by piece.

I love reading a Hendricks and Pekkanen novel, because I can trust that ever single breadcrumb is leading to a spectacular twist. The Golden Couple delivers just that, but in this one, the authors have added more mystery-genre elements. The main character acts as an amateur sleuth, who delicately balances on the line between background research and stalking. There are two POVs, but there is always the feeling that part of the story is missing. No one in this book can be trusted, yet I still found myself rooting for a happy ending.

The story isn't entirely unique, but the authors play with different tropes, which leaves the reader constantly guessing at what type of story they're reading. The ending doesn't pack the same punch as my favorite Hendricks and Pekkanen novel, The Wife Between Us, but it doesn't matter. I devoured this book and loved every bit of anxiety and dread I felt.

The blurb doesn’t really do a great job of conveying what this book is really about. Avery functions more like a PI than a therapist and her own life is less about her husband’s death than about a company using shady tactics to try and intimidate her.
There are a lot of little pieces that are fun to try and puzzle out how they might be connected and by the time the whole picture comes together you may guess at some, but definitely not all the final reveals. Definitely another great novel from this thrilling duo.

This is a mystery/thriller about a couple seeking help from a therapist that doesn’t do practical therapy. Avery, the therapist is part private investigator and part therapist, nothing gets past her so don’t bother lying. The book started slow and seemed more of a general fiction then mystery/thriller. I found Avery’s storyline lacking and without any thrill. The couples storyline did build and had enough twists to make it interesting yet the characters didn’t appeal to me. I just couldn’t connect with any of them. The ending of the book was its saving Grace. Thank you to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

The Golden Couple was a solid thriller but it was missing something for me. I couldn’t make any connection with the characters and that’s always a problem for me.

"The Golden Couple" is a great read. I'm giving it a solid 4.5 stars. The book is well written by two authors who know how to keep the reader engrossed in the story. It has enough twists to keep you flipping pages long past your normal bedtime. I kept envisioning this book as a movie, but I'm not certain you could do it justice with a scaled down two hour tale. This book grows in intensity and will not disappoint any reader looking for a thriller.

This was an uneven book with way too many secondary characters, going off on way too many side plots, from both the past and present, trying to be a twisted domestic thriller. However, the main plot of the couple seeking therapy to save their marriage was interesting and the use of dual POVs is always something I enjoy. Unfortunately, there was a lot going on besides the main plot and it all got to be a bit much. I think because of this, the end was tied up quickly and felt rather forced. Also, I really don’t understand why therapists in these books think they are qualified to be detectives. The addition of an adorable rescue dog, though, was brilliant.

My copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the the authors, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review it.

The Golden Couple is another awesome thriller from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. This is a unique story filled with well-layered characters. The reader is never sure who to trust as this thriller progresses, and the twists and turns are crazy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down. The authors have definitely moved onto my Must Read list and I can’t wait for more.

Definitely a 3.5. I like the 2nd half of this book a lot. It definitely kept me guessing and the twists and turns were good. Quick read!

This book was engaging and mostly well written. It was on track for a higher rating, but I found parts of the last 10% to be difficult to follow and believe - especially Avery and Marissa’s simultaneous realization about you-know-who. There were also just a few too many coincidences and cross-over relationships. I look forward to the authors’ next book being as good as their first few and hopefully better than this one!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy of The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks; Sarah Pekkanen in exchange for an honest review. It publishes March 8, 2022.
Wow! This duo did it again! I feel like they can do no wrong, seriously! Once again they came up with something very smart that totally had me thinking things were going one way, only the pull the rug out from under my feet and blow my mind. I truly did not see that end coming, not a single bit of it!
This was very readable and definitely only you could binge, because it's that compelling!
If you enjoy thrillers, I would definitely give this one a try!

This book kept my full attention from the beginning. It has you guessing until the very end. The characters and their feelings are realistic. Will Avery be able to perform her guaranteed 10 step program to save Matthew and Marissa's marriage? Pick it up and read on to find out, I don't think you will be disappointed,

Yet another homerun by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I've loved their storytelling, and The Golden Couple is no exception. Avery, aka "The Maverick Therapist" has developed a fail-proof 10 session system to solve her client's problems. When Marissa and Matthew show up to discuss Marissa's infidelity, Avery thinks this will be an easy open-and-shut case. Of course she's wrong! I was less than halfway through the book before I believed I, too, had an open-and-shut case for who was stalking Marissa. Of course I was wrong, too. You'll find this one hard to put down, as the writing flows so effortlessly between Marissa and Avery. Definitely add it to your list.

Review of Uncorrected Digital Galley

Therapist Avery Chambers lost her license when she created her unique [and controversial] method of working with clients, a process that requires exactly ten sessions for her clients to work through their issues. Having lost her license makes it easier for her to work with her own methods; she’s selective about the cases she accepts, and her success record is remarkable.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop, parents of eight-year-old Bennett, are Avery’s newest clients. To those on the outside looking in, they appear to be the golden couple. But Marissa, who wants to repair her marriage, has a secret and when a friend sends her Avery’s information, she knows she wants the woman’s help. Avery accepts the Bishops and, at their first session, Marissa reveals her secret . . . she’s been unfaithful to her husband. Matthew is stunned . . . and angry.

But there are more . . . and darker . . . secrets and the Bishops’ marriage isn’t be the only thing in danger.

Strong characters and an intriguing plot are a couple of the high points in this narrative. Told from two points of view, alternately from Avery and Marissa, the unfolding drama plays out against an undercurrent of tension that keeps the reader on edge while the continually building suspense moves the story along in unexpected and dangerous directions.

Despite a couple of providential moments when things fall into place far too neatly, the narrative’s twists and turns keep the reader on edge with its bombshell revelations as Avery, Marissa, and Matthew slowly edge toward the truth. For fans of the genre, this difficult-to-set-aside book races toward a denouement they likely won’t see coming.

Highly recommended.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review - -These two authors write great books that keep you turning the pages -
Marissa and Matthew seem to be the golden couple - - but everything isn't always as it seems -
Marissa wants things back to the way they used to be before she was so lonely that she cheated on her husband.
She hears about Avery who can fix you in 10 sessions she schedules an appointment.
As each ones secrets are exposed, the danger accelerates. You won't want to miss reading this book!

5 stars! I couldn’t read fast enough. I was surprised with the ending. I didn’t see the very ending happening. I’m so happy they wrote in adopting a pet from a shelter. I think we all need a therapist like Avery.

I couldn’t be happier to read and review one of the most anticipated thrillers of 2022! A brilliant, smart, intriguing psychological thriller from Hendricks& Pekkanen! Of course I’m thanking my lucky stars to have a chance for exclusive reading time!

My favorite thriller duo DID it again! They wrote an engaging, slow burn, character driven story by creating one of the most interesting fictional character: yes, Avery became one of my all time favorite heroines!
Let me talk more about her: Avery Chambers: one of a kind sharp witted, reckless, snarky therapist who is quiet a combination of fixer and private investigator detects everything about your life, bringing out all those dirty secrets, the things even you haven’t realized keeping inside of yourself and voila: she patches you up, gluing your broken pieces and fixing you with care.

Even though this book was a little long and it started like more contemporary fiction then thriller till things get heated at the first half, the pure existence of Avery in this book and her different approach, her stalker-ish tendencies, her mind games and sharp wit hook you from the beginning. I have to admit her character and her back story were far more interested than the “ Golden couple” Bishops!

Marissa - the wife of Golden couple hires Avery to fix their marriage. She already knows Avery’s license was revoked but a friend highly recommended her. Washington Post already published an interesting interview about her and her unusual methods. Who cares if they contain the breech of privacy ; at least they work?!
In ten sessions, she guarantees you to fix the marriage.
But her first encounter with Bishops doesn’t go uneventful! Marissa sucker punches her husband with the first surprise session ( poor guy doesn’t know they’re going to see a kind of marriage counselor) but another punch she throws hurt more: she confesses she slept with a young from gym! Poor Matthew goes berserk! Thankfully Avery is with them and she promises they are in good hands.

But what if the both of parties keep dirty secrets. Well, don’t worry, Avery has eyes and ears in everywhere. She eventually finds out every dirty details!

In the mean Avery also deals with intruders who threat her behalf of powerful pharmaceutical company Acelia : the very same company she anonymously called to inform FDA about their misconduct about their medicine trials which have high rates to kill people. Now they want her to be their snitch, trying to learn from whom she got the information.

Those two mysteries are keeping your interest intact. And the ending is smart, some revelations are foreseeable but last one was still well executed.

The writing style is engrossing, the characters are well developed, multi layered and easy to relate.

This is not my favorite book of the duo but it is still smart written psychological thriller/ mystery with great characterization. They never disappoint me!

Special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

What a great book, one that will surely please any reader! The story centers around Avery, a well-known therapist, who has a unique way of treating her clients... not only with her ten-step plan but by spying on them, as well. She is working with a couple who has been referred to by friends as "the golden couple", trying to revive their troubled marriage.

With a web of lies, unexpected turns, more than a bit of mystery, this case has kept Avery on her toes throughout. Besides the fact that the story held my interest so well, I liked that the chapter headings alerted the reader as to was narrating that certain one. In the past, I have quit reading books, because of the fact that I was so confused, wondering which character we were talking about now!

Dog lovers are in for a treat with this domestic thriller featuring an adopted rescue pittie, Romeo* (who's the most likable (and the best judge of) character in it).

In their previous shrink story, "An Anonymous Girl," the coauthors gave us a cat and mouse.

In this one, they give us more of a connect the dots — between an unconventional (and unlicensed) therapist, her former date, her current patients ("the golden couple") and their work and family relations.

It's a knotty tale of deceit, betrayal, and revenge that ropes the reader in, but not initially as it keeps hitting the brakes to deliver backstories. I sped through it after Part I!

While it mightn't meet expectations of fans of the coauthors, it should be a <del>bone</del> bona fide hit with readers who enjoyed Carola Lovering's "Too Good To Be True."

*Note the names in the story (MC Avery means counselor. IMO, she missed her calling as detective).

Avery is a therapist with an unconventional 10 sessions treatment that she says will fix you. Marissa and Matthew seem like the perfect couple, but Marissa cheated. She is trying to save them, so she enlists Avery's help for couples therapy. This is the state of their collision course.

Okay, I will admit that I was not excited to read this. As a therapist, this didn't thrill me since Avery lost her license and I didn't want to read about something that was ethically wrong for clients. However, it was a wild ride and I surprisingly liked Avery! I am still in shock that I am admitting that, but she clearly admits her faults and has nothing to hide. The story is more about everyone else's mess she is entangled with, but there's some substance to her life as well. I won't spoil it for you because I did not see it coming.
