Thank you St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this great book early in return for an honest review.
My only complaint about this book is that it stole my Sunday. I was unable to put it down. This story grabbed me immediately and brought me through twists and turns I didn't see coming. Avery is a "therapist" who has a reputation for fixing you in ten sessions. When a couple that appears to be perfect comes into her office for help she had no idea what a roller coaster ride this would be. This was an well plotted thriller with an ending that truly surprised me. It will come out on March of 2022. I highly recommend putting it on your TBR.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is a thriller that had me on the edge of my seat and guessing the entire book. Marissaqqq and Matthew are a married couple facing a few obstacles in their marriage. In an effort to repair their marriage, Marisa reaches out to therapist, Avery for assistance. Avery conducts an unconventional, 10 treatment method that is proven to help. From the very first session with Avery, secrets are revealed and all three are set on a new collision course. What other secrets will be revealed and who will be hurt from the disclosures.

Hendricks and Pekkanen NEVER disappoint!!! I was so excited to have a chance to read this early, I just couldn’t wait, and I’m so glad. This book is twisty, weird, messed up in all the right ways, and simply unputdownable!!!

Gee whiz, you could've warned me that I'd be up half the night worrying about these fictional characters.. These authors have a knack for writing realistic characters. The antagonist had me completely fooled right up until the heroine figured it out. Knowing that it took her as long as I did to solve that mystery made me feel closer to her. At one point, I cried out to the main character, "No, no no!" and my husband asked what was wrong.

As I spent a lot of time hanging out in D.C. after college, I loved the mention of both familiar and not-so-familiar landmarks as well as the fictional places that I found myself looking up. The only disappointment was that Marissa's shop does not exist (which should be a relief as I think 3-figure bangles are a bit out of my price range anyway).

This book gets five well-deserved stars for providing me with a much-needed escape. I would love to see a series with Avery at the helm with key characters from THE GOLDEN COUPLE making guest appearances. That's a series I would ignore everything else to binge-read.

Avery is a therapist whose license has been taken away due to unethical methods of practice. Despite this, she is still popular, and is sought out for help by Matthew and Marissa, who need assistance in repairing their marriage after Marissa has had an affair. However, Avery has a few secrets of her own she must deal with at the same time.

Let me say that I have now read every one of Hendricks and Pekkanen's books and I have never rated any of them less than 4.5 stars. I'm obsessed with their writing and the creativity that they put into their thrillers. At this point, I think that the therapist trope has been done a lot lately and the thriller/suspense market is pretty saturated with them, but THIS was a totally unique spin on it. It didn't feel overdone or mundane here - I was LOVING it.

The plot was complex. There were so many moving pieces, storylines and characters interwoven into the story to pull off the entire thing. I just loved every minute. That being said..

This would have totally been a 5 star if I had not guessed who was behind the madness by 20%. Normally, with their books, I'm absolutely thrown for a loop at the end. With this one, I KNEW who it was and you couldn't tell me any different. Once I was convinced of this, I looked for the clues, and it was easy to find supporting evidence for it.

Did it take away from my total enjoyment of the book? No. It was still so, so good and the writing in all of their thrillers is just LOVELY. But damn, I was so disappointed in the end when I found out I was right!!

VERDICT: 4.5 STARS

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for an ARC of this one. And as always - please sign me up for EVERYTHING they write in the future!!!!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARDC in exchange for a few review.

Avery is a therapist with a protocol that fixes couples in 10 unusual sessions. When Marissa and Matthew attend her sessions nothing is off limits, and startling secrets are revealed!

I enjoyed the well written characters in this book, and the way the story twisted and turned. I was a little lost (and not as interested) by one of the threads regarding Avery and a pharmaceutical company), but regardless this was a fun book to read!

This story is spellbinding which takes us through the exclusive area of Chevy Chase, DC -- known for expensive homes, nannies, housekeepers, private schools, high-end stores, lawyers and therapists.

Avery, who lost her license as a therapist is now a consultant who advertises: "an intensive short-term course which changes lives." Can she succeed with her new clients that look like they walked out of Saks with amplified love in their hearts? It's the "Golden Couple."

Unfortunately, as it is revealed in this book, nothing is simple in this business. Right away, Marissa tells her husband, Mathew, that she just had a one-night affair with someone from the gym and she says she's sorry. As expected, he's angry and trying not to explode. Avery explains, "To help you, I need to really know you. Not just what you tell me." That's when everything gets interesting with lots of twists and turns.

While reading, it felt like driving down the non-stop traffic jams of the DC streets trying to avoid unexpected moves through lane changes. Some of the restaurants and the bookstore, Politics and Prose, got a good plug. The story has all kinds of hints keeping the reader imaging what will happen at the end.

It's exciting to the max and will please new readers and many followers of the two well-known authors. Together, they have created a suspense that turns pages and immerses the reader into a part of DC that looks sophisticated but hides the dark side. It was said that, "Sometimes we need to look at our lives from a different angle to recognize the dysfunction and damage certain relationships are causing." And as promised, Avery steps right in.

My thanks to authors: Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy with the expected release date of March 8, 2022.

What a wild and crazy thrill ride! This book hooked me from the very beginning and did not let go until the last twist. Flawless writing and seamless delivery. Characters were terrific! Some were easy to love and others I just didn’t get comfortable with. Great premise and love the rebel therapist as well as her role throughout the story. Can’t recommend this book enough.
Big 5 stars from me!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book

THE GOLDEN COUPLE
BY GREER HENDRICKS AND SARAH PEKKANEN

I do enjoy a cleverly written psychological thriller sometimes especially written by the dynamic duo of Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. They have managed to outwit me by the explosive conclusion that I never suspected which is always a good thing. "The Golden Couple," was a novel that when reading the synopsis really intrigued me and I was so happy to see it on my dashboard. It wasn't at all what I was suspecting and drew my interest to want to read it. I was hoping for more storytelling about the psychologist with several patients rather than mostly focusing on one family. I love reading about psychologists and how they help their patients. That was the main reason why I wanted to read this because I have a degree in psychology myself. I didn't get my Master's degree which would have given me more training to help people who seek out a therapist to help them fix the various issues that in this case was a woman named Marissa who was forwarded this particular therapist named Avery. Avery has lost her license due to her unconventional methods that she specializes in fixing her patients problems in just ten sessions. That is what drew my interest for wanting to read this. I knew that her method was unconventional and it piqued my imagination.

I was happy to discover that these two Author's delivered in holding my rapt attention from the very first page until the last one. This novel's plot succeeded in supplying multiple red herrings and a narrative with plenty of the twisty turns that I enjoyed the process of reading this and was never bored. Another positive aspect was the character development being believable as well as a great plot.

Marissa seeks out Avery whose ten session promise of fixing her marriage with her husband Mathew. They do appear on the surface to be a "Golden Couple," but there are many dark secrets and murky undertones to make Avery suspect that Marissa and Mathew are not being totally honest. I loved how Avery investigated their lives without causing Marissa and Mathew to suspect that she was highly a sleuth along with her practice.

During their first session Marissa admits to an infidelity that only happened one time during their long marriage which angers Mathew. She doesn't supply the name of the man that she had the one discreet fling with during the first session. She really never had to disclose that she cheated on her husband because he wasn't suspicious we are led to believe. She had pure intentions of coming clean with Mathew because she wanted her marriage to return to a trusting relationship or perhaps she was feeling guilty. Marissa and Mathew have a long history together as they fell in love when they were teenagers. They have one child named Bennett who is adorable.

I loved how Marissa was such a good mother to her young son. I also loved Avery's devotion to her dog who she rescued. What makes this such an excellent psychological thriller is none of the character's are who they seem which keeps the reader in the dark and wanting to turn the pages. I loved that it kept me so involved that I read this in one sitting not noticing the time I spent immersed and putting off errands that I had wanted to do besides read. It was such a beautiful day and I wanted to get out and enjoy the weather getting things that I need to do, but since starting this novel I couldn't put it down. If you are a fan of unpredictable psychological thrillers then this is one you don't want to miss. These two Author's are very talented and it read like it was written by one person not two. I read and reviewed another great work of their's called "An Anonymous Girl," which I also recommend highly if you love a great mystery that keeps you clueless to how things will transpire.

I have a pretty great list of books to read and I picked this one to read first because I loved the premise and I knew that I would really love it. I can't wait until these two talented Author's produce another suspense filled novel in the future. I will definitely read whatever they write because they never disappoint me. I will look into whether there are other novels that I have missed and read them right away.

Best Book I have read all year! If there was a 6 star option this book would get it! I have read every other book by this combination of Authors and have never been disappointed but The Golden Couple outdoes them all. I was guessing until the final chapter! Unique plot, intriguing cast of characters and a back story for each that ties together in the end perfectly! Thank you so much for the advance copy of this book - it’s what all my friends will be getting for Christmas!

This is my fourth Hendricks/Pekkanen book & it does not disappoint. I’d definitely recommend this once it’s released. Very twisty & weird. Which is right up my alley!

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen never fail to deliver. They’re stunningly good at dragging you into their stories. The Golden Couple is no exception. I loved how they described the flaws in this couple’s marriage, the shades of the characters,. I really rooted for them, which is why—maybe—the biggest “twist” failed to convince me. But all in all, the suspense is always there and kept me from putting the book down, and the characters—all of them—flawly human and really likeable.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. A great read.

This book is a thriller that will have your mind working overtime to figure out what is going on with the characters, whether they're telling the truth, and what is going to happen in the long run. Marissa takes her husband Matthew to see a therapist named Avery. Matthew thinks they are there to talk about their young son, but Marissa shocks him when she admits to an affair. Avery takes over as the therapist with her controversial ways -a 10 step process for helping couples with their problems. Her work begins and the stories start to become clear as lives unravel. A page-turner for sure!

If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her unorthodox method is wildly successful, and clients are begging for her help.

Marissa and Mathew Bishop appear to be a golden couple, rich, beautiful, and in love. But Marissa cheated, fracturing their fairy tale lives. Wanting to save her marriage, she convinces Avery to take them as clients.

Avery’s methods stir hidden secrets, and eventually blow everything up, putting her clients and her own life in danger. Highly recommended.

Talk about a thriller of a ride! I could hardly put this book down and read it in just a couple of sittings.
Controversial (and unlicensed therapist) Avery Chambers takes on Marissa and Matthew Bishop as clients. Marissa is desperate to reconcile her marriage after a one-night stand, but as the Bishops delve deeper into their marriage, more secrets come out. Avery is dealing with her own issues and is being actively persecuted by a corporation upset by her methods and whistleblowing.
Each chapter takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns that leads inexorably to the explosive climax when everything becomes clear.
I loved this book and highly recommend it!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The dynamic duo is back again with another zinger! Just when you think you've figured it out, they throw another wrench in the story... Marissa and her husband Matthew appear to be the golden couple - beautiful home, 8 year old son Bennett, successful careers - but the facade is beginning to crack prompting Marissa to schedule a therapy appointment with Avery so she can tell Matthew her secret: she cheated. Avery is not your typical therapist; she has a 10 session goal of fixing your issue, each session with a specific theme. Her facade had already cracked when her license was revoked and her husband died. Perhaps that's why the Bishop's chose her to counsel them. As the story unfolds, it is quite clear that everyone is holding back, even when sharing secrets.
I found at times for Avery, the line between therapist and private detective were a bit blurred and often distracting, but the Bishops had an inkling of what they were getting into when they hired her for her unconventional ways. What was most shocking is that they didn't push back on her request and often gave her what she wanted, no questions asked. I spent a good amount of time with my investigative hat on when a new character was introduced in the story, which kept it fun and engaging! I typically have the guilty one pegged pretty early on, so I was pleasantly surprised at the end.

I received an advance copy of, The Golden Couple, by Greer Hendrick, Sarah Pekkanen. I am not a fan of books with adultery in them, I could not get into this book at all, or even finish it. Others will like it though.
