I am excited when a new read from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanan come out, as their books are unique and intriguing. This one has similar themes as past stories, but reads more like a mystery.

In summary the story is about a therapist who does therapy in the most non-traditional ways, given that she has lost her license to practice, yet uses her "instincts" to rush the therapy process and get clients to a resolution place within 10 sessions. This new couple who enters therapy, is dealing with infidelity or we think. The therapist is out to uncover the secrets in the marriage that her role operates more like a private investigator, rather than a therapist. I really would have liked more of a storyline about the therapist and why she is the way she is rather than on this "golden couple" who was unconvincing in how loving the relationship is. In the beginning, the therapist assesses whether wife fears husband's anger or more scared of betraying him. I didn't like how it teases at the reader with all these different ideas and introducing so many characters that it began to feel like different random strands and the writers trying to tie them all together. It got to the point where I felt like I was reading a wild goose chase that by the time the ending was revealed, I was not thrilled to have gone on the journey since it didn't feel like any of the characters were redeemable at that point and felt too exhausted to make sense of it all or feel shocked or have any emotions about the ending.

This book is completely insane and I LOVED IT. Absolutely nothing is what it seems. Everyone is a liar and even the lies hold deeper deception than meets the eye. I haven’t been held hostage like this by a book in a long time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves twists and turns with a side of shocking revelations. So. Good.

I have read, and enjoyed, all the novels by this author-pair. This book was just ok for me, though. The beginning was quite intriguing, but as the book went on, it seemed to drag on. By the end, I was happy it was over. I wasn't surprised by any twists or turns and it could've been because I suspected everyone and everything. It seemed that all the characters had secrets and nobody was to be trusted. A huge huge case of an "unreliable narrator" but it pertained to all the characters in the book. I give this one 3 - 3.5 stars.

What a great mystery! Everybody is a potential target and no one knows why until the very end. Marissa and Matthew Bishop go to marital counseling after she commits adultery with one of their longtime friends. They know their new counselor, Avery, lost her license to do therapy but she was recommended by a friend.

That's not Avery's secret. She reported a corrupt drug company, thinking she would be anonymous. Now she's always looking over her shoulder.

And just when I thought, gee, this therapy might really work, the whole shebang blows up. Could something happen to the Bishops' young son? And what's Grandpa's story?

Few things are as they seem but I was not even close in my estimation of who would do what to whom.

I highly recommend The Golden Couple. I read it in two days-- I just couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to reading other books by these authors.

So how do I justify pushing 20+ books aside to read The Golden Couple? First, none of them publish until at least next month, so no other books were hurt. Second, if you get the chance to read an early copy of a book by Hendricks and Pekkanen, you don't need an excuse! Third, I loved The Wife Between Us and if this was a physical book, you might see a picture of it covered in bite marks because I devoured it.
Marissa and Matthew seem to have it all. Money, looks, brains, and a son they adore. Until Marissa makes an appointment with a therapist, one who has lost her license but still runs an in-demand business. Avery follows her own rules, but she can almost guarantee results if you adhere to her program. While Marissa's confession may mean the end of her marriage, Avery senses more going on between these two than just infidelity.
Avery is dealing with her own personal and professional issues, and as the story progressed, she seemed to get more and more tangled up in a complicated web of lies and deceit. A clever game of cat and mouse that kept me guessing throughout. The ending surprised me and if life didn't get in the way, I never would have put this book down until I was finished. 4.5 stars.

An affair, a marriage in turmoil, and a therapist with a few issues of her own. This book was domestic suspense at its finest; glossy, secretive and absorbing. It made for compulsive reading. I love this kind of smooth, twisty read, those privileged, seemingly perfect lives that absorb you then pull you under the surface, tangled in their secrets and lies. It was entertaining, scandalous and had me hooked from start to finish.

This was one of my most anticipated thrillers when I saw it was going to be released in 2022. I was thrilled to get an advanced copy.
This story is told from two perspectives: client and therapist. Matthew and Marissa are the picture perfect golden couple. Marissa reaches out to Avery, an unorthodox therapist in need of help with her marriage. Avery claims ten sessions with her will fix the issue. Thorough out the story, Marissa and Avery are dealing with their own issues but then they intertwine near the end of the story. I did really like the setting which was Washington, D.C. and mentions of the Eastern Shore which gave me a connection to the characters. Also, props to the authors for having Avery adopt the underdog Pitbull from the shelter, it made me like her more.

This was a slow burner in my opinion, like the author’s previous story: The Wife Between Us. There was definitely a few plot twists I did not see coming. It wasn’t as fast paced as I would have liked, but it was still a solid thriller. I give it 3.5 stars. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Starting the Golden Couple? Best to cancel everything in your day because once you start you’re hooked and won’t stop reading.
Avery, an unconventional therapist who “cures”: patients with her unique 10 meeting plan, meets with husband and wife Marissa and Matthew where Marissa announces she’s slept with another man. On the outside this couple look like they have everything, wealth, smarts, and gorgeous looks, but the cracks are there and Avery is positive she can help them. But Avery is dealing with some large issues of her own and the more meetings she has with them the more entangled they all become.
This is a well constructed suspense novel with several strong plots happening at the same time and the authors carry them off brilliantly. I highly recommend The Golden Couple and think it will be a huge hit.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A beautiful couple visits an unconventional therapist who discovers that they are hiding far more from each other. There are dozens of plot twists in this novel.

I read everything these two authors co-write. They are each one different and all are very good. This one is no different. When Marissa has a one night stand, she takes husband Matthew to counseling to tell him. As the two try to mend their marriage, Marissa feels threatened by an “unknown” admirer. Counselor Avery has skeletons in her closet. The reader slowly finds out more and the unusual happenings in Avery’s life begin to make sense. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.

I have been a fan of theirs since their first book so I thought I knew what I was getting into. This book took me by surprise with so many unexpected paths and reasonings. They are master story tellers who weave prose and suspense together like it's their web.
