A great way to introduce and talk to your child about covid, bullying, discrimination and other social issues of today. Also good for this time of year (summer) to help children transition from school to summer camp

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book. This story is way to long. And the author tries to tackle to many subjects in one telling.

This story is way to long. And the author tries to tackle to many subjects in one telling. He even warns the reader he will do just that. He sends a bunch of animals to Christmas Island Australia for camp. In This camp they learn about or experience all things going on in the world right now: species diversity devastation, pandemic, climate change, morality slide, etc. It is just too much all at once.

Strong on Message, Weak on Grammar

I believe the author has good intentions with this book, touching on environmentalism, racism, and a virus-brought pandemic. But I think he is a little heavy-handed in trying to get his points across about them. This is a somewhat odd picture book. It has a vivid picture on each page, but each page also has a LOT of text on it. In fact, I wish each page had a little less text as it is bunched together with no spacing between paragraphs. The eye loves white space. This book does not appear to be either copyedited or proofread, so it has awkward sentences and errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage. While I don’t like to see that in any book, I think it is a particular problem in children’s books. Children are such sponges who learn from everywhere, including books like this. And we don’t want them to learn incorrect language from books. All in all, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.

This book had good intentions of trying to incorporate Covid and how people's lives were changed, but I think it was confusing for children because it alluded that the animals had Covid. That was not necessarily true, and that was not the point or focus of the pandemic. So, while it meant well to help explain disappointment to kids, I do not think it necessarily did a good job.

What a fun story for everyone in a family to read. My 3 year old loved the illustrations and my 14 year old enjoyed the story so much.

I recommend this for all families.
