Adventure Dogs is a great read for any dog parent looking to take their dog on a new adventure and wanting some ideas.

All things to do with your dogs so you are not doing the same activities over and over. Also what you should have when you go out and just a good all-around book for everything to do with your dog and be safe and have fun while out exploring and exercising. A really good book.

This was a really cute book with adorable pictures and it definitely made me want to take my dogs on a trip with me!

Adventure Dogs is the perfect coffee table book. The photos in this are so fun and the ideas have inspired my dog and I to be a lot more adventurous than our weekly hikes (especially the smell walk). This book's beautiful photography and expert testimonials have given us a lot of ideas! My only critique is that my cat feels a bit left out!

The cover is entirely too cluttered for my tastes, which is a shame. The photos throughout this book are gorgeous, but trying to jam several of them together on the cover just doesn't work for me. I wouldn't want this visual jumble on my coffee table.

As someone who's done many activities with my dogs, there's not much new information in these pages. I've already completed 18/45 activities. Still, the photos of each of the activities are stunning, and I do appreciate how the author tries to make certain "big" activities accessible to the average pet dog.

For instance, Watt makes it clear that becoming a Search and Rescue Dog is a huge responsibility requiring a great deal of training for the dog and the human handler. However, any dog can learn the "Find It" game.

The author lost me though with the inclusion of outdated science. She writes. "Pack-walk leaders are experienced trainers who know how to establish themselves as the alpha within a pack of dogs."

In another section she quotes a trainer, "I don't care how much of an alpha role any dog has assumed; when someone comes in and exhibits those traits to a greater degree than they do, they will step aside."

Classic dominance training that's based on an unusual wolf study from the 1930s that extrapolated flawed assumptions to the world of domestic dogs.

What really irks me is that this book is clearly meant to be fun, and to inspire people to strengthen their relationship with their dog. Why would you perpetuate such damaging information? Dog guardians and handlers should work compassionately with their dog, and not try to dominate them.

I won't be adding this book to my collection.

Pet lovers! DOG lovers! Adventuresome pet owners! This is the new coffee table book for you! My kids love it and so do I. Fantastic - BEAUTIFUL photos of dogs of all breeds in all areas of weather and outdoor scenery - from beaches to snow to mountains to city parks and forest trails dog are everywhere! The photography is great and so are the ideas for ways to bring your dog WHEREVER you are planning to go next! Land, sea, sky - take them with you! : ) I love the whimsy and fun of this book tied together with ways to connect with your pet. The author did a fantastic job of researching areas to meet up with specific breeds or to find groups for your specific pet. Amazing research compiled into one great book! The ideas this author compiled are creative and outside of the box - surfing, painting, road trips to a dog shaped hotel. You name it - she found it! What a great compilation of it all! :D

I am what you call a dog person. I love dogs... So when I saw this Title on NetGalley I was instantly drawn to this book. Here I thought that it was just going to be cute pictures of dogs doing things (and it was) but it was even more than that. I learned that I can take my doggo to the Ritz Carlton in PR for a kayak ride....what? So cool! Some of the ideas are kind of random but it makes up for cute photos of good dogs all across america! Cute gift for a dog lover.

Buy this book!!!!! A great adventure book for dogs and their people. I really enjoyed it! I will be recommending the book for my dog obedience classes in the future. Also plan to give it as a gift to friends and family that get new dogs. I think it would be fun to plan the adventures with your dog and then put the date, place and details of your adventure on the corresponding page in the book. Making the book a keepsake of your dog adventures over your lifetime.
The book teaches that dogs live in the present, they are not thinking about the past or the future when they spend time with us. We need to do the same with them. So don't rush when you spend time giving your dog a bath or grooming them. Be present. Dogs also pick up our energy levels - when you want your dog to be calm you need to be calm.
I loved the underwater photos of the dogs and people in the book - they are a hoot. One of my favorite quotes from the book was from John Steinbeck - "A dog is a bond between two strangers" The book is just full of fun photos, hints and quotes.
The author provides steps for training your dog to do many of the activities in the book. Like teaching "find it". The steps to teach your dog are well done and easy to follow.
I have been training and showing dogs for years. I also teach dog obedience classes. I found a number of hints in the book that I made notes to use in the future. The book has photos that are really fun that go along with each adventure. Fern also got advice from experts on some of the adventures. I thought the "Go for a Smell Walk" was really a great idea. I will be recommending that in my classes in the future.
One of my favorite hints in the book was "Never raise your voice when you are communicating with your dog" (page 63). I also really liked the idea to teach your dog names of people in your household. (page 66) I have been wanting to teach my dogs to find my spouse when I do not know where he is.
There is a great part of the book about taking your dog on vacation. We tried taking all of our dogs on vacation and now we would not think about going on vacation without them. Fern has given me a number of new ideas about places to go in the future.
Most of the adventures in the book can be done by most people and their dogs. There are some that would require special fitness levels for both dogs and people. There are also some that require special equipment. If there is an adventure that does not fit your skill level or those of your dog, just skip that adventure or modify it. Just make sure to keep yourself and your dog safe.

Adventure Dogs by Fern Watt is a collection of colorful photos and activities that any dog-lover will enjoy. The book includes a series of activities that dog-owners and their dogs can embark on together. According to the description,
the book "teams up with canine experts to offer more than 50 surprising new ways to strengthen the connection you share with your dog."

Overall, Adventure Dogs is a great bucket list, and it would make an excellent coffee table book as well. One highlight of this book are the great, full-color photos that show dogs in various locations doing various things. I took off 1 star, because I did find some of the activities to be unrealistic or things that not every dog can do. For example, competing in dog sports isn't ideal for every dog.. If you're intrigued by the description, or if you're looking for a gift for a dog-lover, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in April!

This is a book of all the things that you can do with your dog(s). Some of them are practical, like walking on the beach. Some of them require certain equipment or knowledge, skijoring. But, this book is full of beautiful photographs and lots of information whether practical or not. One sure to please the doggy in your life: Go Biscuit Tasting, or maybe Stay in a Beagle Shaped Hotel. What a fantastic book.

This was really well written and organized. I learned a lot and it’s not your average dog owner book. Some of the tips felt pretty bougie, and it appears you have to be willing to spend money to have a good time with your dog, but in reality it’s a lot simpler than that. Really fun to read through..

Cute, but barely sniffs the surface of adventuring with doggos. Read like an introduction for children.

So many great ways to enrich our dogs' lives! While not every suggestion will be a good fit for every dog - my 15 lb brussels/papillon won't be skijoring or bikejoring anytime soon - the book includes enough options for everyone to find some great options for their own dog(s).

Wow! Let me start by saying what a cute, fun book! I have three dogs (a Great Dane, Pitt, and a Lab) and this gave me so many new and exciting ideas to try with them. They love to go on long walks and hike, and this was perfect for the adventurous dogs in your life. I also really enjoyed how there were several other ideas outside of the typical "adventure" - ideas for home, or more accessible areas, as not everyone has places to hike and explore nearby. The photography was amazing! Will absolutely be recommending this to other dog-lovers in my life.

Pros: This is such a charming book! My godson has a new puppy, and I've been looking for books for him that are about having a dog. I love that this book can be enjoyed by people of all ages and that it encourages a wide range of activities. Also, the photographs throughout are precious--such good boys and girls.

Cons: This isn't a con but a note to readers-- this book is not for cat people.

This was the perfect book to read to ring in the new year! There were plenty of things to do for every activity level and the photos were awesome. I'm also super excited to someday stay in the Beagle at Dog Bark Park Inn. I've never seen anything like that and now it's on my bucket list for sure.

As a new dog owner, I was super excited to receive a copy of this ARC from NetGalley. This book is an easily read selection of fun activities to do with your dog. They range from the very simple - take a smell walk - to the more complicated - SEAL dog training!

While some of these things are way beyond what I’m interested in doing with my dog, I did get a few new ideas and good tips for taking on some slightly more complicated pieces. One of the things I liked was inclusion of various dog friendly locations - a lot of these felt very West/East coast based, so not super useful in other areas but still a nice beginning list of locations. The photography includes lots of lovely pictures of various types of dogs and some links to Instagram pups. Lots of fun for new dog owners and maybe some think outside the box ideas for more seasoned owners as well.

My three dogs need daily adventure, and they'd be happy returning to the same trails we romp every day. But I need a little variety, and this book offers clever and super-fun ideas to inspire new adventures with our dogs. Honestly, it's also a great armchair dog-lover book. I can't even with some of the photos. I will be giving this book as a gift to a handful of family members and lots of friends.

I have had several dogs and currently have one now. I enjoyed reading the different things you can do with your dog. I mainly have one problem with it. Some of those are not new ideas. Also some are very similar. I also prefer not to drink wine but I do know that restaurants have dogs welcomed in their outdoor seatings. I do think it was a good idea to write this book for new dog owners for the first time. The pictures and the author’s writing was very good.
