I'm a McManus lover, so I was so anxious to dive into this book. Unfortunately, it fell extremely flat for me. The characters were bland and unforgettable, and the book seemed to drag on. I'll continue reading anything Karen puts out, but I feel like this wasn't her standard for me.

It’s an absolute thriller. But how could I expect anything less from McManus? The way she’s had me on a chokehold since her debut is no joke.

You’ll be the Death of Me doesn’t disappoint!! It’s a fast paced book, the entire plot taking place in a day, POV’s jumping between three old best friends. It’s lovely to see their camaraderie together, and I love how fleshed out each of the characters are.

I will admit, the ending wasn’t as satisfying as I’d hoped. I keep looking for something that’s full of adrenaline, something that will make me gasp and go “oh my god!!! Of COURSE!!” And I keep missing that. I want a showdown damn it.

That doesn’t lessen how awesome this book is. The entire story is anxiety inducing in the best way!! Thank you NetGalley, for an ARC!!

You'll Be the Death of me is a young adult thriller / mystery. The author is Karen McManus and I have read all of her other books so I was definitely looking forward to this one and I was not disappointed!
The book is told from three different POV. Basically three high School age kids used to be best friends and had drifted apart as high school went along but on this day they decided they were going to skip school together as they did years ago the first day they met. Each person has issues they're dealing with within their own life and secrets that they're trying to keep. On top of the secrets they're trying to keep are basically in the wrong place at the wrong time and see what they are pretty sure is a dead body, and the book is basically about trying to put together what happened to the person. I don't want to give away any spoilers so all I can say is if you're a fan of mysteries or thrillers you should definitely give this book a try.

There's some SERIOUS suspension of disbelief required to consume this one, but otherwise, it's the most fun I've had reading a McMacnus book since One of Us is Lying! It's quite similar to that one (apparently this one is based on Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which I entirely missed) in terms of pace and character development. I devoured it and had fun doing so! There are some outlandish plot points that you have to just roll with, but if you're willing not to think about it too hard, you'll enjoy yourself. An engaging, quickly paced mystery that fans of One of Us is Lying will enjoy.

Karen McManus' take on Ferris Buller with murder. This was a solid YA mystery with interesting cast of characters keeping big secrets from each other. The suspense quotient wasn't as high as it is in McManus' other works and the mystery is not quite as twisty. But Mcmanus is a master of the YA who done it and she certainly does it again here.

I was hoping for more from this author. Not as "thrilling" as her previous books, too much walking around and the thrills were few, but still a good, fun read.

Karen McManus has done it again with another mystery that has you guessing until the very end! I loved the pacing that the book took and it put you right in from the start. I absolutely love this author and this was yet another book that I read in only 2 days. Everything is connected and I love solving the mystery along with the characters. This definitely had an interesting twist at the end that I was not expecting. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys an intriguing can’t put down book.

You'll Be the Death of Me was one of my highly anticipated reads of 2021. I really enjoy Karen M. McManus' writing, and always recommend her novels for those who want to dip their toes into YA Thrillers.

The story is told from 3 POV's. Ivy, Mateo, and Cal. The three of them used to be best friends. Years later, they run into each other, and decide to skip class. Except everything turns upside down when one of their classmates gets murdered, and they stumble upon the scene of the crime.

I enjoyed the characters and their subplots, and liked the mystery aspect. I love how the three characters wanted to do the right thing, and how their stories intertwine with each other. I wasn't completely blown away with the story, but it was a quick, enjoyable read. The ending was my favorite part!

Overall, 3.5 stars for me!

Ivy, Cal, and Mateo used to be close, but they haven't been so in quite some time. High school split their trio as each began to focus on different things. When the three run into one other in the parking lot before school, each having a bad day before the day has even begun, they decide to ditch school and reconnect.

It doesn't take long for things to sour- and by sour, I mean they find a classmate dead and immediately worry fingers could be pointed at them. After all, how much of a coincidence can it be that they skipped class and landed in the same place where a classmate was murdered?

In my mind, Karen McManus is a genius. I have enjoyed all of her books and this was no exception. She is skilled at writing murder mysteries that are engaging and remain compelling throughout!

McManus has mastered the young adult mystery with plenty of intrigue, great, pacing and enjoyable characters.

My high school student’s would eat this up!

Once again Karen McManus turns out a book that keeps you reading and wondering. I will recommend this book to all of my students and especially those who love a good mystery!

You'll Be the Death of Me is my favorite Karen McManus book since One of Us is Lying, My students will absolutely love this book. Karen is an automatic buy in my classroom library.

Story has the same idea as the epic ditch day in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off only this day off leads to a murder.

In this story Ivy, Mateo and Cal (based on characters from the movie) were best friends in middle school but not so much in high school. They meet up in the school’s parking lot their senior year as each is running late and having a bad day. Ivy just lost a class election, Mateo is feeling over worked with two-jobs and Cal just got stood-up. They decide to turn a bad day into sometime fun and have the greatest day ever and ‘ditch’ school and head into the city.
When they spot another student ditching Carlton High and they follow him only he ends up dead!
Yikes the ‘best day ever’ is now the worst day ever’ (only they use another descriptive word.)

I am a big psychological thriller fan and although this is not one; it is a high school drama with some bad people. As a high school guidance counselor I love to read YA stories and want to share perhaps discuss with them. I didn’t love this story but doesn’t mean that others will feel different about the characters and their situation and will love it!

The tone of this was **wildly** uneven. The problems in these characters' lives were just on monumentally different levels of seriousness, and to have all of them given equal weight was a real "one of these things is not like the other" situation. I was definitely entertained, but mainly because I kept laughing out loud at the contrast—but sadly I don't think that was intentional!

Karen McManus books now fill my shelves in my classroom library. My students love her books, and so do I! One of Us is Lying had just come out when I met McManus at the Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge. She is as lovely a person as she is a gifted author and so I was thrilled to get this book for review.

Ivy, Cal, and Mateo are having a very long day; they used to be close friends but have drifted apart. When they decide to cut class together one day (just like old times), and then they find a classmate dead, they race against the clock to find out what happened to poor Boney.

A tight, suspenseful mystery will keep the pages turning and then that ending! McManus fans will not be disappointed and my students are going to love this one! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This was a great book that fans of McManus will gobble up but..... it was a tad slow to start. Some of her other novels had similar issues and it didn't make them bad. It just made them a bit less thrilling, at least to start. Once things get moving the book is entertaining and will suck you in. This is a must buy for libraries where the author's other books are popular.

Typical good Karen M. McManus book! They never totally rock me where I would give five stars but always a solid four. Keeps me entertained & I always pick up the next book. Love a good YA thriller.

I did not want to put this book down. It was fast paced and amazing. It's been a while since I've had a book that was this enjoyable to read.

Karen McManus is one of my favorite YA authors, and this book is another reason why! In "You'll Be the Death of Me", Ivy is all about doing the right thing and can't stand to see a mystery unsolved. Along with her best friend Cal and former flame Mateo, she tries to uncover what happened when another student is murdered. However, they quickly get in over their heads once they realize there is a drug conglomerate tied to the murder. Along the way, Ivy and Mateo try to rekindle their romance as well.

This book was a little slow at the beginning, but once you get a few chapters in, it really picks up and draws you in. I enjoyed the romance that was mixed in with the mystery and suspense. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
