I have never read any of this author's books that I didn't love. However, this was very hard for me to get into. I feel it just didn't start off with a bang, which her books usually do. Although this was not my favorite of hers, I will always recommend any of her books to my patrons. What one person doesn't completely enjoy, many others will.

This was ok, a bit predictable, the author has definitely fallen into a "type" of writing style and genre.

Fantastic characters and narrators! The story kept me intrigued throughout. Very fun young adult mystery!

This is my third Karen M. McManus book, and my least favorite so far. I did find it entertaining enough, but I didn't find the plotting to be as successful in the previous mysteries of hers that I have read. The ending ramped it up and made me end the book enjoying it, but I didn't feel that the typically hook-inducing clues were dispersed well throughout. Overall, I thought it was fun enough and that fans of the genre and of McManus will find enough to like, but it wasn't my favorite of her work.

As always with Karen M. McManus' titles, this had me gripped, but the reveal was…meh? to say the least. It was redeemed by the ending and I'm sincerely hoping we'll get to see more from this trio.

I really enjoyed this book, as I have all of her other books. I didn't know who the killer was and it's believable at various parts of the story that it really could have been any of them! She is one of my favorite authors and I will happily read anything she writes!

This was not my favorite McManus book, but I do think that it will be a big seller for the readers in my building. I enjoyed the multiple points of view, but the clear rip-off of Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't a selling point for me. I know that it is more of a "nod" to that storyline, but I wasn't super impressed. Overall, I give a solid 3 stars, but still didn't hesitate to purchase it knowing that my student readers would enjoy it.

Karen M. McManus has cemented herself as one of the best YA thriller writers today. Her new edge of your seat thriller follows a group of friends on an epic ditch day that ends in murder. Each of the friends has a connection to the dead kid and they are all hiding something. In classic McManus fashion, the story is filled with secrets, lies, and a plot that will draw readers in. The story is told in alternating POVs with excellent writing. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoy fast-paced thrillers that keep readers guessing. Be sure to check out You'll Be the Death of Me today!

I really wanted to love this one much as I have with the other books that Karen McManus has written, but I felt like this one really fell flat and only picked up about 3/4 of the way through reading. The timeline felt both rushed and slow at the same point, starting with long-lost friends meeting up to ditch school, and turns into one big adventure involving the cops in the end.
There were quite a few secrets that kept being revealed, but they all kinda blurred together in my mind as each friend had something. It may be due to me kinda skimming some parts, but I just didn’t feel this one.
I will continue to read their other books because I really love the mystery and can’t wait to see what happens next!

3.5 stars. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the authors other works. I feel like there was too much going on in the main story for the book to have such a simplistic ending.

Not me favorite Karen McManus novel. But I think her target audience will very much enjoy this one, especially if you love YA thrillers.

I am a huge fan of Karen M. McManus' YA mystery novels and this one did not disappoint. I found this story to be mysterious and just the right amount of unsettling. She writes great, convincing characters and I am looking forward to the next novel!

Please remember that I am a 70 year old woman reading this YA book, but nevertheless I thought it was terrific. I don't know how Karen McManus does it, but her books cannon be put down--I know I can't, my teenage students can't, and my teachers (30 and 40 year old) can't, so I guess she really writes for all ages. I liked the three different voices in this book--it gave the reader a comprehensive view of what was happening. Because of the last sentence in the book, I am really hoping that she will do another book with Ivy, Mateo, and Cal...

You'll Be the Death of Me is a very Karen M. McManus kind of book. The characters will feel familiar, as will the themes and the plot. For a true fan this is a great thing, for the casual reader it might start to feel a little repetitive. I am afraid I'm falling into the later category, and while I really enjoy her writing style in general, I'd really love to see her break out of the tried and true and try something totally different next time.

Was it OMG amazing, can't put it down, best book of the year? No. But it was perfectly pleasant and a good read between commitment books.

This book was on its way to being a 5-star read for me... until the end. So, first, why was it a potential 5-star read? I was hooked from the start. I liked how there was actually some exposition, some build-up before the murder happened. We got to know the characters of Mateo, Cal, and Ivy before the plot became the focus of the book. 5 stars! I also found the "investigation" portion of the book to be pretty believable. The actions that the trio took, the clues they followed, the logic they employed all seemed to me to be true to form to how teens would behave. And there were no 16-year-olds magically knowing how to do DNA analysis, sneaking fingerprints from crime scenes for comparison to samples they have managed to snag from their suspects, etc. This was just three teens asking questions, trying to come to logical conclusions, and making lots of irresponsible choices along the way. This might have been the most believable teen sleuth novel I've read. 5 stars!

But then the climax hit. Abruptly. Suddenly. Unexpectedly. And just like this book had a significant exposition, it also had a lengthy falling action/resolution... but not one that I felt like added much to the book. Within a few short pages, the whole crime was revealed, police arrived, certain characters were saved, and it was all over. Bam! I was incredulous for pages, expecting that to be a false solution and some other twist to pop up and shock us all. But nope. That was it. And then the last couple pages of the book.... And the then the actual last sentence of the book. I have never felt less satisfied by an ending in my life. Except for maybe the short story of "The Lady or the Tiger." I immediately searched to see if there was going to be a sequel, but there's not. That was TRULY the way McManus opted to end the book. NOT 5 stars!

You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus

Y’all. This book came out at the end of November and I am just now getting around to it 🙈 I’m horrified that it took me that long to get to it on NetGalley. But at least I finally did!

It also took me about a week and a half to get through it. I just struggled to get into the story, or care what happened to these characters. I was literally about 75% in before I finally found myself wanting to know what happened.

I felt like it was a little predictable, but I will still pick up the next one because now I want to know what happens next 😆

Thank. you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for the arc in exchange for my honest review. I'm so sorry it's been so delayed!
