A group of professionals are gathered and tasked with investigating an 'anomaly'...

Intriguing already!

Two sisters, 8 year old Sophie and 16 year old Tennant, appear to be the only two survivors from their small community. The rural life has prepared them somewhat as they are familiar with hunting, tracking and surviving with the bare minimum of things.

The carefully selected team of professionals must first work out what caused the disaster before they can figure out how to stop it happening again. They are a mixed team with Dr Martha Chan, a psychologist who analyses large-scale medical emergencies seeming to have the most clarity of them all.

Then there's THE NOISE - anyone hearing it begins to bleed from the ears, the nose, they eyes and they consistently behave in an odd way. But why? And what has caused the devastation of Sophie and Tennant's community.

Soon for Dr Martha Chan, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Fraser and the team - things become a little clearer and then the real stakes are revealed.

This quick to read, dark and disturbing thriller will have you hooked!

James Patterson can normally be relied upon for writing somewhat far fetched books that are entertaining . The Private books are my favourites. Collaborations can work or not and I'm not sure how much of this Mr Patterson has actually written or how much it is to boost the career of JD Barker. Having read The Fourth Monkey (but not the rest of the trilogy as it seems it's basically the same story- the same bogey man killer on the loose) I was intrigued to see how this would pan out. An interesting premise I agree but not terribly well executed. Less POV would have been better. Some things were never explained and left hanging. Also child torture is not high on my list of favourite reads. I'm guessing this was Mr Barker's input as he had far too much detail on child abuse in his 4th Monkey book which in the end I had to skip through. By all means be far fetched, very far fetched but the basics that you are building on should at least be factually accurate to give a grain of credibility to the far fetched.
JD Barker and any collaborations are off my list of authors to read but I will still continue to enjoy Mr Patterson's books as still some I have yet to read

A wonderfully thrilling eerie read. It had me gripped from the beginning. The suspense continues throughout this book as you try to figure out what is happening. The characters are likeable. The writing is chilling and realistic. Plus the ending is pretty good.

Honestly, this book is so good!

I didn’t know what to expect but it hooked me straight in. It opens with so many unknowns and questions that you can’t put it down-hard to review without giving any spoilers but rest assured you will enjoy this supernatural thriller.

Wow this is way different from what you expect of James Patterson. The book dives almost straight in with the sisters Sophie and Tennant somehow surviving a cataclysmic event. Now, the question is how did they survive? But, also how do they stop it? Was this a force of nature or something else? The noise spreads, infecting all who come anywhere close to it. People running, trampling those who fall. People dying, their bodies going up in flames. Who will survive? This book will keep you guessing right to the very end.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Random House UK for the electronic copy.

OK, so this is quite surreal - not what I expected at all. A mixture of science fiction and horror set in the first instance in Oregon, where 16yr-old Tennant Riggin and 8yr-old sister Sophie have lived all their lives in a survivalist community. Then the noise comes - the sisters are ushered into an underground cellar by their parents. When they emerge they are changed - their community is flattened, everyone dead. An earthquake or tornado?

As experts gather to determine the cause of the catastrophic event, their conflicting agendas begin to emerge. Tennant needs to protect Sophie who has been badly affected and is being studied by their Government "rescuers".

The situation escalates as the phenomena extends across the Pacific North West, devastating all areas. What's the cause - how can it be stopped?

This is "interesting" - obviously VERY far-fetched, Not particularly my cup of tea though.

Excellent read and as usual James Patterson didn't disappoint. Quite disturbing at times about two sisters living in a remote village in Oregan who are the only survivors of an explosion. Partly horror and sci fi this book is definitely one to be recommended.

A very fast paced book on survival.
A horrendous noise comes then a father shoves his two children in a bunker, when the noise stops the children come out of the bunker to realise they are the only survivors left in their village and the younger child suffering greatly.
The government sent out a team of experts to find out what happened.

A different kind of book I usually read had me gripped from the beginning but by half way I was loosing interest in the story and the characters, just didn`t seem to go anywhere.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review

The Noise is a psychological thriller surrounding a deadly scientific mystery told through the eyes of two young sisters living in the Oregon wilderness, the brilliant doctor trying to save them and a mystery that deepens when a destructive force begins to threaten humanity as we know it. A mysterious explosion kills thousands in the Pacific Northwest. Young sisters, 8-year-old Sophie and 16-year-old Tennant Riggin, are the only two people to withstand and survive the catastrophic blast that destroys their community, located in the shadow of Oregon's Mount Hood. The two sisters are close and have always stood together. Now, they’re the only ones left alive and must fight to stay that way. A team of elite government investigators are sent to research the fallout and the girls - why did only they survive? - but with conflicting objectives. For Dr Martha Chan, a psychologist who analyses large-scale medical emergencies: study them. For Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Fraser, a career military leader with an inherent mistrust of civilians: contain them. But as the disturbance replicates across the Pacific Northwest, it threatens to topple the chain of command. Dr Chan and Lieutenant Colonel Fraser are caught between the perpetrators of the threat - and those who have the power to resist. If you hear it, it’s too late. Can two sisters save us all?

Terror has a new sound and it comes from the darkest corners of James Patterson's imagination. This is a riveting, deeply unsettling thriller and an amalgam of the horror, sci-fi dystopia and thriller genres and it works impeccably well. The relationship and dynamic between the two sisters is one I loved and you find yourself rooting for them and cheering them on as they roam the strange world they now inhabit all alone. It's a fast-paced, chilling read and the authors capture the eeriness superbly with each chapter fraught with tension. I don't know how they do it but they constantly blindside you with new twists, turns and red herrings, something notable happens in every single chapter and it is a cracking read that easily takes over your mind and has you feverishly flipping the pages. Patterson's books don't exactly score highly on the scale of believability, but if you can just let that go then you are treated to a raucously good read. It's compulsive and I must admit reading right through the night as all of the hints had me desperate to find out what actually happened. The casual, clipped writing style and short, snappy chapters are second to none and the pair really know how to get you hook, line and sinker within a few pages. The Noise is a dark thriller that takes hold of the emotions, defies the senses and is like nothing you’ve ever read before. Highly recommended.

"It's naive to think this planet is ours. We're merely the latest short-term residents."

This is my first book I've read written by both authors, James Patterson and J.D. Barker and it was certainly no disappointment.
Unlike seemingly quite a few people, I liked the main characters a lot, they really tied the story altogether with the multiple P.O.Vs which I don't tend to be a huge fan of but it worked brilliantly here. I didn't know what I was expecting walking into this but it surely left me with the feeling of wanting to go running in the other direction. It had me feeling a rollercoaster of emotions; Sympathy, frustration, confusion and even a little sadness at times.

What was so enticing about this book was the fact that it keeps you on the edge of your seat, not being able to put it down because it keeps you second guessing what you think is going to happen - at least it did with me up until the very end. All so mysterious. The ending wasn't at all what I had expected but it was creepily amazing, one I'll for sure be coming back to.

Thank you to Random House UK for granting me permission to read this wonderful eARC !! I HIGHLY recommend this Horror/Thriller Sci-fi, an easy five stars from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First of all I would like to thank both of the authors, James Patterson and J.D. Barker, as well as the publicity team at Random House UK for sending me this e-ARC of The Noise.

I loved the multi-POVs in this book from Tennent, Martha, and Fraser. One fallen victim of the anomaly, one examining it, and the other attempting to contain it. I also really liked the premise of this novel and I think the idea of it is executed well throughout.

I felt as if the plot was interesting throughout and was captivating. Personally there were a few moments that I felt dipped for me (particularly in a couple of Fraser’s POVs) but not enough to the extent of disliking or putting down the book. I thought Tennant’s chapters were the most interesting and I loved the sisterly bond between her and Sophie.

The book is gripping in all of the right places and is a fantastic read for any thriller fans or regulars of James Patterson’s works as this book follows suit in the high standards found in his previous novels.

I must admit I was a bit unsure when I first started reading this book; I thought it would be too Sci-Fi and not enough of a thriller. I was wrong and glad I kept reading. I'm not sure that I understood completely what was going on though - until the end!

Would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book

Omg what did I just read.....this could be a reality or at the very least an episode from Star Trek in the not to distant future

A noise begins and Life for tennant and her sister will never be the same again as their father saves the by throwing them down a cellar .....but are they safe....

As a group of people are take by the military to a remote location they are given 2 hours to form opinions about the phenomenon but they are under military rule

Wow this story is frightening but on some level could very well happen

Brilliant characters and loved the shock ending

I love James Patterson's books but have never read any from J D Barker so I wasn't sure what to expect. This was a fast paced story with an interesting concept. What if people kept running and didn't stop? Why were they running? Experts are brought in to analyse and interpret and try to prevent a mass panic. The book is seen from different perspectives which keeps it on the edge. Very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend.

Another great book by Patterson and a great partnership with Barker. I have read practically all of Patterson’s books and this one is completely different to anything I have ever read by him.

I loved the change of genre, the horror was scary enough to make my mind wander when it’s quite but not enough to stop me sleeping.

Great likeable characters who were honest and believable.

Authentic and believable plot, told really well. In summary a tale to keep you awake at night, to invade your dreams and question what is real.

Recommended 4 stars from me.

I spent the whole day reading.... I finished the book in one setting because I just couldn't put it down. That to me is the sign of a good thriller! This is a fast paced thriller - horror - science fiction story, in a way that reminded me a bit of another of Patterson's standalones, Zoo.
I always love James Patterson's books and this one did not disappoint! I feel I can't say much about the story without spoilers, but what an ending... We all run...

Wow!!. I was on the edge of my seat reading this!!. The thought of a strange, loud noise making people go crazy was really quite scarey!!. As per, James writes a gripping story that could almost be believable but not!!. I loved it and could not put it down, dreamed about it,thought about it when I couldn't read it as I bustled around the house!!. Highly recommend !!!

Horrifying, Dark And Terrifying….
Horrifying, dark and terrifying in equal measure, a high octane thriller chiller from esteemed authors. Wholly engaging, compulsive, atmospheric and suspenseful and with a credible cast. Easily a one sitting, edge of seat read.

Terror has a new sound…

James Patterson has co-authored The Noise with J.D. Barker, a thriller which will have you at the edge of the seat and very spooked right from the start!

Two young sisters living in remote Oregon are the only two people in their village to survive an explosion that destroys their community. A specialised team of experts is called in by the U.S President and military to figure out the disturbance’s origins and to study the survivors. When the disturbance replicates itself along the Pacific West, Dr. Chan, a psychologist, and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Fraser, a decorated military leader, must work together with the other experts to try to contain the threat to avoid irreversible consequences for America and its citizens.

The Noise is very different to Patterson’s other novels and I really enjoyed the fast pace of the story’s development which adds to the suspense and drama of the book. The reader is totally immersed in the story. The premise of the book is both disturbing and shocking (and includes lots of blood and gore throughout) so I was hooked from the very first page!

An action-packed book with elements of fantasy, science fiction and horror, and the all-important shocking twists; the perfect book for any avid thriller reader!

Anyone else here that buzzing?
