As someone who suffers tinnitus, I will now, forever, be haunted by The Noise.

Imagine a sound, a thrum, a hum so powerful you don’t just hear it, but feel it. You feel it deep in your body as though your very cells are generating the sound. That sound is compelling you to do something, something that could kill you or kill everybody you care about.

This novel reminded me of a Stephen King story. Very creepy and at times you feel empty at the pit of your stomach as you begin to develop and understanding of what happens to those who hear the noise. It is very much reminiscent of Stephen King's The Cell. That being said it is its own book and can stand on its own feet without the King comparison.

I was particularly drawn to the characters of Martha the civilian and her military foil Fraser. I would have very much liked to see this book from solely their POV as their relationship amped up the novels tension for me. Can they find a way to solve the problem when they cant work together? can the military and the scientists put aside differences like freedom of information vs rigid structure of 'need to know' to save the country?
I also enjoyed the character of Tennant, although, I don't think her POV was utilized in a way that added anything interesting or exciting for me as a reader. I felt her purpose was to connect me with her sister Sophie which fell a little flat, I felt for Sophie without needing to know how much her sister wanted to take care of her.

The Noise is a very fun and fast paced thriller. I honestly could not put it down and finished it over two days. Patterson and Barker have written an unputdownable book that will keep thriller audiences enthralled from the opening chapter.

Have read and thoroughly enjoyed the majority of James Patterson's books but I am sorry to say that I found this a very difficult read. The storyline was pretty horrific, and hard to believe and descriptions of victims very graphic. I am sure there are readers who enjoy this type of story but unfortunately I am not one of them.

Another sure fire hit for James Patterson.

As an avid James Patterson fan I was really intrigued by the story of The Noise. It was so different from anything else he has written and I can definitely see the JD Barker brain at work. A great combination of writers and I couldn’t tear myself away from it.

The Noise is a terrifying, dark and very unsettling read. I think it would make a great movie. You will not believe what is happening and it will shock you. 2 young girls, Sophie and Tennant, are the lone survivors of a massive explosion that wipes out their small community. Sophie is not the girl she was before it and it is scaring her sister. Experts are flown in from all over the country to find out what happened, why and to stop it happening again.

A clever but rehashed story we have all read before that felt distinctly not like a James Patterson book. I’ve not read anything by Barker before but I’m very sure this is that particular authors story.

It’s cleverly done though and it’s hard not to feel sorry for Tennant throughout, and the action is fast paced and thrill a minute as you come to expect from the Patterson factory Of books,

Even with the trademark short chapters this still felt a little long bit if you like your Stephen king, James Herbert, Dean Koontz type of horror I’d heartily recommend having a read of this.

This is something a bit different for James Patterson, and JD Barker makes a very good foil for him. Two girls, Tennant and Sophie, are orphaned when their village is destroyed. A really mixed team of experts are flown in to see why only these two survived, but then similar problems start being reported in the surrounding area. And then there’s the noise.

This really did hook me from the first page, wondering where this was going to go, and being desperate to find out. I read this book very quickly and at certain points I felt that if this was a film, I’d definitely have my eyes closed. It feels like a horror story but frighteningly it also really feels possible. Excellent read.

Absolutely loved this! I am a Patterson fan anyway but this book is a bit different. I found the plot very intriguing and wasn't sure what would happen in the end.

This book follows the story of two girls Sophie and Tennant who live on a remote hillside and their father has taught them when they hear the noise to run to the shed to hide but this time it doesn’t work and the nest thing they know is that they are being transported to a secure military base where a secure team has been assembled to try and resolve why people are suddenly running as if there life’s depended upon it
No one knows what the humming noise is but once you hear it you are drawn to the horde and drawn to start running

Fantastic book bit scary in this time of pandemic but a definite must read for Patterson fans

A diverse group of experts are brought together to find out what is causing devastation across America. It all starts with a sound. Two sisters are somehow linked to the mass of people who must run until they can run no further.
Brilliant book with a unique plot. Great characters that are brought together to identify what is going on and try to find a way to stop it. Good luck with that. Enjoy.

Such a scary story, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. An audio virus hits the USA and the results are shattering!
This is an interesting demonstration of storytelling!
As usual, Patterson allows the reader to identify with the main character but I did find the number of significant people in the story confusing at times. but as the death rate is high - that often didn't matter!
The story is fast moving - in more ways than one and the reader is swept along inside a terrifyingly possible story!!

As you would expect from an author of this calibre, the book was brilliant. It starts straight in on the action, and the pace never once flags or slows, it never feels drawn out. The plot leaves you wondering the whole way through, as you never know which way it is going to go, and the authors were not scared to kill anyone off. A great read, a hard to put down roller-coaster that leaves you trying to catch your breath the whole way along.

"The Noise" mixes thriller, science fiction and a touch of horror with great success. Unexpected turns and the desire to know more keep you hooked from start to finish. Being a fan of both writers, it was odd that I didn’t like the book. Definitely recommended.

Didn't enjoy this one as much as other collaborations.
Felt this was slow to get into the story and was a strange topic for the book.
Once you understood what was happening it did get bettter.

An outstanding read The story is written so cleverly the the reader becomes completely immersed in the pace, rhythm and emotion of this roller coaster of a tale. The focus of the story is fascinating, so close to reality yet inconceivable. It is thought provoking and intriguing with the reader wanting to contribute ideas to solve the dilemma. The denouement is a little lacking despite the twist, possibly due to the tension and engagement of the rest but it doesn't really disappoint

The Noise follows two sisters as the only survivors of a massive explosion. Nobody understands how they survived, until Dr Martha Chan and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Fraser find clues to figure out why... but will they get more than they bargained for?

Another solid standout by James Patterson and J.D. Barker.... what a story! It was absolutely insane and horrifying! In a very good way... totally recommended!

WOW!!!!
What an amazing shocking piece of writing! I simply couldn’t put it down, I was completely immersed! With all the conspiracy theories about the pandemic this was quite scary.
Brilliant!

Being an avid James Patterson reader this book is the complete opposite to what I’d expect to read but the book had me hooked and needing to find out more and more.
For a first reading of JD Barker, I would read other books he has released.
As for the story, I won’t give anything away except there are plenty of twists and the ending has left so many unanswered questions and makes you think “what if?”. The book is seen from the different characters perspective which makes you relate to them and understand their actions. I can see there potentially being a book 2 in this series. I've been a fan of JD Barker for some time and immediately jumped at the chance to read this book. The Noise was a complete departure from his previous work in crime fiction. This book was like reading ten books in one, with multiple genres meshed together. It was a horror, action, little sci-fi thriller all rolled into one. Granted 400 pages isn't long but it felt long, like binge watching a whole season. I feel completely exhausted having finished it. The ending was very abrupt and left me with so many unanswered questions. There is definite potential for a sequel.

I don't want to write a small summery for such an epic of a book. Go in blind. If you're a fan of Dean Crawford, you'll love this. If you liked the movie Lucy, you'll probably love this.

The day started out like any other day for Tennant and her little sister Sophie but then the noise came. Their world will never the same again and then the people came that tried to take everything away.
A special group of individuals have been gathered and brought out to see what caused the anomaly but what the team finds makes no sense.
Dr Martha Chan can’t understand what has happened to the village but she knows something is very wrong and when the girls are found & taken away. She knows that she needs to find answers before something else happens. Harbin & Martha start digging further into the anomaly and what they find is terrifying as they doesn’t seem to be a way to stop it from continuing. Can Sophie help them stop what is happening or will she turn against them? A good solid read pretty frightening knowing that man can do so much harm. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review. Martha kicked ass throughout the whole book
