Very cute children's book. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! Bricker takes a child on a journey of curiosity and joy. Grandparents are extremely important in a child's life, and this book brought back memories of weekends spent with my own grandfather.

A very sweet book about grandparent/grandchild relationship and a celebration of community! I liked meeting all the different 'characters' in the neighbourhood and it was nice to see the story tied up nicely at the end! Overall a really wholesome read with pleasingly detailed illustrations!

This was so cute! I loved just seeing a grandpa and granddaughter sharing a day together. I'd read this to my child. The illustrations were cute too

I really enjoyed this book which focuses on the close bond between a granddaughter and grandfather.

I thought that the book was well written and it was easy to read and follow

I liked the characters that they met along the way and the interaction between them. I really liked the ending too and thought that it was a lovely touch and a great way to end the story.

It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

Karen Jonice Bricker's Maddie's Saturday to Remember gave the impression that this would be a sweet book about a girl having a wonderful day with her grandfather. We need good intergenerational story books. However, the story line didn't flow well. The girl seems self-centered and there was no discussion from the grandfather regarding having empathy for others. More importantly, the book relied entirely on stereotypes. This is not a book I would read with my children or others.

A lovely little story about a little girl and her grandad who have a lovely day together exploring the neighbourhood.
You follow Maddie and she is out and about meeting everyone that she obviously knows well, from probably doing a similar thing with her grandad every week.
Beautiful story with pretty illustrations

Once upon a time there was a girl who had a day with her grandfather, and that day was special for both of them (her and her grandfather) this Saturday ... period, read more about this beautiful story.

I would really highly recommend this story as it has great life lessons, it is easy to read and it has a good vocabulary for children.

The story is very nice, but I did not feel that spark to enter my favorite books, I have no idea, however, it is a great story

There was many things to love about this book. This story centers around Maddie and her grandfather and the precious time they spend together walking the neighborhood on a busy Saturday. They come across a sidewalk musician, an Italian pizza shop owner, and a store window designer. It’s a perfect multicultural neighborhood where strangers are friendly and respectful toward each other.

While I loved the “differences” between people depicted in the book, including spoken dialect, I suspect there will be criticisms about stereotyping based on ethnicity, race, etc. My response to that is, yes, this is a children’s book, and what better place to innocently and lovingly depict differences in people? My job as an adult figure in a child’s life is to wholeheartedly accept and celebrate those differences, not to pretend they don’t exist. This book does that perfectly and without fanfare.

I also want to comment on the illustrations. I thought the artwork was beautiful!

Many thanks to NetGalley and BookGoSocial for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

Seemed like a sweet book which then just relied on racial stereotypes. Felt a bit weird about how people were depicted and how they were written to speak.

Maddie's Saturday to Remember is a picturebook written by Karen Jonice Bricker and illustrated by Samela St. Pierre. Maddie cannot imagine a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than with her Grandpa. They meet a colorful cast of locals in her hometown: a street musician, a fruit seller, and a pizza chef are all part of this adorable adventure. When Maddie meets the mysterious Lydia, who allows her a sneak peek into the creative and fun behind-the-scenes world of window dressing, she is truly inspired!

Maddie's Saturday to Remember is a cute story about a girl and her grandfather's Saturday activities. I like that it was a very inclusive book, and portrayed the kind of neighborhood I always wished I lived in- where everyone knows each other and is like family. I like that Maddie explores safely and is excited about new things, and is not looked down on or spoken to condescendingly by the adults around her- and her grandfather is also treated with respect. It is a sweet story, and I liked it, and I think there are many young readers and families that will enjoy it.

Not for me. I didn't care for the illustrations and the story was just too stiff and had no flow to it. I understand it was about a little girls day with her grandpa exploring his neighborhood, but it just seemed so forced. I'd seriously pass on it. It needs reworking.

Easy to read and quite charming but I felt it lacked a little direction and purpose with the storyline. I came across to me as being a little confused.

I liked the illustrations, they were charming and interesting.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me this arc in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

The book is about Maddie’s adventures on a Saturday outing with her grandpa. They go to meet different people in the street, make new friends, and have fun. Most importantly, they respect others and are kind to animals.
The illustrations are cheerful and lively. The writing could have been a little better. But I guess it’s suitable for the target audience. I felt the story a little rushed. Maybe a slightly slower pace would have created a stronger connection.
Overall, this is a sweet and warm book that shows the importance of everyday interactions and friendships.
Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and SDP Publishing for a copy of "Maddie's Saturday to Remember" in exchange for my honest review.

This is a very colourful and engaging story about the special relationship between Maddie and her grandfather. They spend Saturday afternoons together all the time.

They visit Nikos at the fruit stand, they look at Nellie and her puppies. They admire a fascinating peditaxi. They always go to Georgina's Pizza for a slice of pizza, where they meet a lady who gives Maddie a flower for her hair. They listen to Joseph the street musician. They end their afternoon looking at the windows at Conlon's Department Store.

This time when they got to the department store the windows are covered with curtains. Maddie runs into the store and she sees the lady who gave her the flower. She learns that she is the window dresser for the store. Meeting Maddie has given her an idea for the new window display. She asks Maddie to come next Saturday for the big reveal.

The new display has Nikos, Nellie, Georgina, Joseph, Grandpa & Maddie staring in it. It's a fun story about Maddie and her excitement in everything she sees.

Who wouldn’t want Saturday to come round quickly? Well Grandpa does, as this is the day that Maddie comes to visit.

What I loved about this action packed adventure was the openness of Maddie and her Grandpa to be involved in the local community. From the pavement greengrocer to the street musician Maddie is fully engaged with these familiar people.

Another favourite jaunt is the local pizza parlour where Maddie is able to engage with the owner and customers alike.

The buildings and street atmosphere are beautifully drawn with colourful illustrations supporting the text.

Children will adore this sense of place and the interactions between a less than elderly Grandpa and his granddaughter. It is full of life and energy and both seem to draw on each other’s enthusiasm to enhance the day’s experiences.

My only concern is the level of comprehension and reading ability of those we share this book with where following the words starts. The text could be reduced in my opinion and still keep both the story and understanding. As stated this is more than compensated by the accompanying pictures which capture the story.

Guess this is the fundamental balance all books for children go through to identify their target audience. This is aimed at 4-10 year olds and this is just about right for this bright and innovative story.
