Monsters Among Us started as a horror story. Kids missing every few years, a supposed monster living in the woods, and adults who barely show interest in their missing children. Not a bad premise until it makes a hard left and falls apart.
Perhaps this is a YA novel and that explains the jumping around with no rhyme or reason, or the lack of bothering with following the plot the author began.
400 pages of drivel. Convenient solutions just thrown into a paragraph as if even the author had no idea what was going on.
Thanks to @Netgalley and books go social for my honest and unbiased review

This story had so much potential in it! But I feel like we read the CliffNotes to what could have been a much, much more detailed story. I love wendigos and monsters and the secrets behind small towns but this story just glazed over EVERYTHING. Very disappointed.

The cover suggested some entertaining creature horror, and because of its nice style at first I thought this would be a graphic novel. Of course, reading the summary I learned that 'Monsters among us' was indeed a written story, but I was still intrigued by the idea - a lot. Unfortunately, the cover remained the one and only good part of the book.
While the plot was based on some decent, though probably not new ideas, their implementation and the writing were absolutely horrible. Incoherent plot turns and sudden new twists turned the book into a confusing and frustrating mess which was no fun to read at all. Add to that the poor writing and missing editorial work, and what you get is a botched story that could have been so much more had only someone bothered taking the time to untangle this mess, put things and scenes in order, add background story, smooth out passages between chapters, and especially give it several rounds of editing and proofreading. Sorry to say, but I really wonder how this book even made it into publishing.

This was a fun, very enjoyable read but I think it's most suited for children or maybe YA. I'm very much an adult and I should have known looking at the cover but I saw it as a read now on NetGalley and the horror junkie in me had to jump in xD. Like I said it's a very enjoyable read - a dark forest, a crazy town, a Wendigo (love how it was described!), human sacrifices, and resilient kids turned into adults. At 130 pages I think it makes for a fairly decent pastime.

The Story is interesting, it keeps you reading. Unfortunatelly the style is that of comics, every chapter seems to be the outline of one.

I did not finish this book as I could not finish because the writing was so bad and the plot so convoluted and confusing. There was an interesting concept there and some glimmers of interesting story telling but mostly it was a huge grammatical mess with a plot line that didn’t make sense with unbelievable characters.

Wow just wow what a quick read this book was. It was so creepy and scary and I might try and get a physical copy so I can re-read it during spooky season. It follows friends Max, Becca, Luke and Gabby. Their town was a strange one and they wanted to figure out why so they went into the woods where they were told to never go. Ever since that day very bad things began to happen. The rest you will have to figure out for yourself cause I don’t want to spoil it lol. I do highly recommend this book to everyone so so good.
