Imagine a crocodile in a family of birds. Weird, right? And scarry too! But this crocodile is different. He's a beautiful, helpful and fun creature. But he was weighed more than that.

Sometimes being the odd one out makes us uncomfortable, but the people around us can help us belong. A nice way to remind kids to be nice to others.

Adorable. Excellent. Adorable. Delightful. Precious. ADORABLE. Bright and beautiful artwork depicting the joy of blended families and the importance of loving your kids for who they are, no matter how different they may be. Really vital messaging, and with eye-catching art to match. Loved it.

This is such an important book for children to read, especially the adopted ones, it was a really touching story about a family of birds who found a crocodile egg and decides to raise it as it’s own.

The art is very colorful and well done, I’m sure the kids are going to love to see the different animals and small details but the gem of the book it’s definitely the story, the last page almost made me tear up a little bit.

This one it’s perfect for a bedtime story!

A family of birds discovers a rogue egg in the Australian bush and takes it home to hatch it. When the egg hatches, it isn’t a bird at all but is a crocodile. The family continues to love and raise him. As he gets bigger, other animals try to figure out why the bird family continues to keep him. However, despite all of the reasons the other animals come up with, the real reason is quite simple. Crocodile belongs. He is part of their family.

Kitty Black’s A Crocodile in the Family is a sweet story about belonging and what it means to be a family. This is a great was for parents (and other loving adults) or teachers to discuss how all children are special or to discuss adoption. This is one of those books which makes everyone feel good.

A wonderful book about love and loving one who is not quite like you! One day in the Australian Bush a family of birds come upon a lone eggs just laying there. They take it back to their home and lo and behold the egg hatches and it is a crocodile! They love the crocodile, they were thrilled to have him as a part of the family and took him everywhere. When he grew up he stayed with them and helped out. He was beautiful, helpful and fun, and despite nobody knowing why the bird family loved him so, they knew why.: because he belongs with them.
Well written for young children by Kitty Black, and with fun illustrations by Daron Parton this is a good book to read to youngsters and subtly teaching about adoption, and what it means to be a family. I really liked this book and think many parents and children will also.

A beautiful story of a crocodile who is adopted into a family of birds.

We loved this story, which opened the conversation with my young child about adoption and how some parents adopt kids to become part of their family.

I truly loved the message of the book, and it was so well done. The illustrations are adorable, and the story was easy to understand even for younger children. It was a lovely book

Love the message this story conveys: There doesn't have to be a "reason" for someone to be part of the group. We choose to make them part of us, and that is enough! Excellent illustrations as well.

A Crocodile in the Family is a beautiful story with humour about a family of birds who find an egg and decide to adopt it. When it hatches they are surprised to find a crocodile who then becomes a huge part of their family. The other animals question why they keep the crocodile and the message given is simple yet beautiful!
This book would be a great conversation/discussion starter within a group of children.
The illustrations are bright and colourful and very humorous too.

Thank you for advanced access to this little book. It has striking illustrations and the storyline is easy to follow. It even has some repeated text, which is great for kids. It's about a crocodile that was adopted into a family of birds. He's different than all the birds and he has lots of good qualities, but that's not why they keep him around-it's much lovelier and wholesome than that! This was an adorable story and I really enjoyed the colorful pop-out words in the text. This could potentially be used to teach about love and families. It could also be fun to incorporate into a unit about different countries and cultures; the side character animals and some of the vocabulary are specific to Australia.

I loved this book! As an educator and an adoptive parent I am excited to read and recommend this book, especially to kids in the foster care system and to other adoptive families. I also immediately thought I would use this book in the primary classroom for lessons in character traits and adjectives. Well done!

Before we go into the story, first lets talk about Rudyard Kipling's Jungle book story. Should Mowgli stay in the forest where he grew up or should he go to the humans? Should he stay with the wolf pack?
Based on your answer, you might find yourself wondering about where this Crocodile should be. Excellent illustrations and very meaningul story of a family.

Five brilliant stars for this adorable and colorful book that touches on such important issues including family, adoption, and acceptance.

Children will appreciate the bright colors and deep meaning through this story, and I truly believe this will become one that early childhood teachers will want to get for their classroom libraries as soon as possible!

It’s a cute fun book with an inclusive message. Probably for 3-5 age range to understand the message, for younger children there is plenty to talk about in terms of the animals, what they do etc. There is not too much text, so they should remain entertained throughout the whole book.
Not recommended for families or centres who follow Montessori methods as the animals are not acting realistically. But otherwise it’s fun and sparks interaction between reader and child.

4.5 Stars

This is one cute little book with fabulous illustrations and a lovely message. The pictures are so bright, cheerful, and lively! The message is shared in the simplest yet effective manner. The text complements the illustrations and adds a touch of humor and warmth to the book. Imagine a croccy being adopted by a family of birds. That’s what the book is about and why the family of birds considers the croc their own.
Thank you, NetGalley, Happy Fox Books, and Fox Chapel Publishing, for the ARC.

This book is about adoption, acceptance, family and belonging. In the Australian scrub, a family of birds found a lonesome egg and brought it back home. Over time, not a bird, but a crocodile hatched from the egg. The bird-parents were thrilled much to the astonishment of other bush animals who prophesied that Croccy might eat the bird-parents when he grew up. With time, Croccy turned into a strong, helpful, magnificent, fun-loving creature. The other animals took turns to ask the bird-parents if that was the real reason why they continued to keep Croccy. Each time the bird-parents affirmed that Croccy was indeed strong, helpful and fun, but that’s not it. The reason they kept him was that Croccy belonged with them, and that’s that…
