Campaigns & Companions was the cutest little book! I loved the short comics, which were punchy and hilarious to me as a D&D-playing pet owner. I plan on purchasing a physical copy of Campaigns & Companions for my coffee table at home, because it is the perfect book to pick up and flip through for quick entertainment.
This book would also make a sweet holiday present for any pet-owners who are fans of gaming!

I enjoyed reading this graphic novel. We see pets taking on a popular game, and many times things take some unexpected turns. While reading this I couldn’t help but chuckle at the choices some of these pets would make. This graphic novel puts a clever twist on this game and I think fans of it will enjoy reading it.

First off the illustrations in this are absolutely gorgeous! This is a funny take on pets and animals playing DnD and I must say I am personally guilty of some of these when playing.

Funny and cute!

LOVED this. Laugh-out-loud funny and a treat for D&D/Non-D&D players alike.
I also thought the illustrations by Watt were PHENOMENAL

Campaigns & Companions is a charming book about what it would be like if our pets could join us for some tabletop roleplaying. Answer? Hilarious and chaotic, naturally. It's a great humor book to pick up for any gaming friend who loves their pets (er, familiars?). The illustrations are especially fun.

Campaigns & Companions is a cute gift book about what pets would do if they were playing D & D. Quite funny & made for animal lovers, it is a recommended purchase for the pet & RPG lover in your life. I don't know if it would circulate in a library, but I am buying it as a gift for a loved one!

This little hardback book is a comic delight for anyone who has pets and is familiar with role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons.
Each spread has a little comedic scenario that might take place if you decided to be game master for your pets. They’ll make you chuckle as you pore over the illustrations that are so wonderfully drawn. The details are incredible and it’s a real delight to soak in the imagery alongside the jokes.
This is the perfect gift for the pet owner and RPG lover, and will make a great addition to any coffee table for bemused guests to flick through.

What happens when the pets roll the dice in D&D? Hilarious hijinx, that's what! This book is a full of cats being typically cats, dogs being typical dogs, and a host of other furred, feathered and scaled critters engaging- and derailing - epic campaigns in their own unique way.

Laugh out loud funny!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGallery for the e-ARC! This is a super adorable graphic novel, and as the perfect target audience (I love my pets and D&D! A perfect combination!) it was delightful! I'm sure there's a lot to love for everyone, the illustrations are lovely and it's very funny.

A quick and funny read of scenarios with pets playing Dungeons and Dragons. Things like the Dungeon Master says there's a deadly potion sitting in a vial on the table, what do you do? The Cat says "I knock it to the floor". Or the dog who chases the dart that the orc just through at him. That kind of thing. If you're a gamer and pet owner, this book is a must get. It's very humorous.

Campaigns and Companions is exactly what you expect from a graphic novel about pets playing D&D. It was perfect. I’m not a D&D player, but this has honestly convinced me to maybe give it a shot one day, if only so I can mimic some of the pets playing in this. If you choose to be a complete asshole of a player, the cat has some great advice on how to ruin other peoples campaigns. The dog is definitely the friend who just wants to enjoy themselves.

The art in this was amazing as well. As with most graphic novels, the art is kind of the focus, so you expect a lot from it, and I was very pleased with the work within. They picked the best parts of the campaigns described to illustrate, and it added so much to the experience of reading this. It was hard not to laugh out loud at some of the illustrations.

if you’re a pet owner, you’d be hard pressed to not get some form of enjoyment out of this. Even without being a D&D player, I couldn’t help be laugh at how great some of the descriptions were, how apt the art was, and really just how accurate it would be to watch some of our favourite furry friends try to fight monsters or muddle around with some potions.

I can’t recommend this one enough, it was just such a delight to read, and is definitely one of those books I would want to keep as a coffee table book just to flip through whenever I need a good laugh.

Reading like a greentext story and accompanied by the most beautiful illustrations, Campaigns & Companions: The Complete Role-Playing Guide for Pets follows the adventures (and misadventures) of your beloved family pets as they engage in some good old-fashioned tabletop role-playing shenanigans. Of course, bringing pets into the dungeon is not without its pitfalls: dogs are going to chase ball-shaped things, cats are distracted by small lights, and budgies will inevitably get trapped by a mirror.

All these scenarios and more play out across the pages of Campaigns & Companions, with many laugh-out-loud moments where you can just imagine your beloved (and sometimes dickish) furkid doing the exact same things.

Writers Andi Ewington and Rhianna Pratchett capture the essence of silly animal behaviour across 96 pages, accompanied by the stunning art of Calum Alexander Watt – who must have had the best time coming up with amazing RPG outfits to shove all manner of creatures into.

Campaigns & Companions: The Complete Role-Playing Guide for Pets is a short, punchy book that doesn’t wear out its narrative gimmick and has the perfect amount of absurdity to make it an instant hit. Not only that, the illustrations look as though they are lifted straight from a player’s handbook. This will be the ideal Christmas gift for any geeky role-playing friend or family member.

Time for a quick review:

This book is absolutely perfect for those D&D Nerds (I'm one of them btw... no hate!) who want a good laugh in a very friendly way. I thought this was hilarious and many of my D&D loving friends also got a laugh out of this book. I highly recommend.

Three out of five stars.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me an ARC copy of the book. Campaigns and Companions by Andi Ewington and Rhianna Pratchett is a funny portrayal of pets playing Dungeons and Dragons. Although, I expected the book to be funny as the word was over the internet. But, I didn't find the book that much hilarious. Although, some of the events are funny, but the book couldn't live up to my expectations. I would give the book 3 stars.

This is cute. If you like D&D and you like books like the Simon's Cat series or 'Can I Pee On This', you'll probably enjoy this book -- little 1-2 page 'scenes' from pets playing Dungeons & Dragons together. It doesn't have any story of its own -- it's just little fragments of 'what would standard D&D scenes look like if they were roleplayed by animals'. The cutest part is the illustrations that accompany each story, and the inclusion of other animals than just dogs and cats.

An absolute treat to read! If you've ever wondered what D&D would be like if your pets played, then look no further! I highly recommend this book if you'd like a good laugh. Also, the illustrations are lovely! Can't wait to purchase this book for both my work library and my home library!

Campaigns & Companions is a wry and funny illustrated look at "what if" pets played D&D? Due out 14th Sept 2021 from Rebellion, it's 96 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a series of full colour illustrations combined with dialogue from tabletop gaming vignettes. The shtick is that the adventurers are pets, cats, dogs, hamsters, gerbils, budgies, and so forth. They're adventuring for fame and glory (and treasure), but they're true to their natures at the same time. I got a giggle out of the kitty adventurer who dumps the treasure out of the chest to sit in it. The writing by Andi Ewington & Rhianna Pratchett is pithy and amusing, and the illustrations by Calum Alexander Watt are surprisingly expressive, full of wit, and expertly rendered. Editor Alex de Campi does a good job of tying it all together. It's short and funny.

Four stars. This would make a nice gift or stocking stuffer for your favourite geek gamer.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I laughed a lot imagining the scenes. A very funny and entertaining book that I read very fast and couldn't stop laughing (by the way my fav is the dog and the bones).
Witty and entertaining, a great read if you ever played D&D and are owned by pets.
The illustrations are amazing.
Thinking of buying it in paper.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This definitely wasn't entirely what I expected, which goes to show that I definitely judged it by it's cover. I thought that it would be a guide for playing animal characters within D&D, rather than what it actually is. A fantastically witty and hilariously accurate portrayal of what it may be like if our pets were the ones to be playing the tabletop roleplaying game and fighting dragons and orcs in our stead.

It was absolutely brilliant!

The illustrations were fantastic, and each of the little snippets of conversation really did bring the animals thoughts and characteristics to life. Definitely worth a read if you've got the time!
