"The Mystery of Frankenstein's Bride" by Martha Wickham offers a unique twist on the theme of love and the supernatural, blending romance with elements of mystery and the paranormal. The protagonist, Terra, embarks on a journey to reunite with her old flame Nathaniel Johnston, only to discover that he, too, is no longer among the living. Determined to be with him, she seeks to bring him back to life, hoping that their eternal love will transcend even death.

Wickham's narrative introduces intriguing elements, such as a honeymoon in Germany and a castle that creates distance between the newly reunited couple. The premise holds promise for an engaging and atmospheric story, combining love and the supernatural. However, the execution falls short in some aspects.

The pacing of the plot feels rushed, particularly in the development of Terra's relationship with Nathaniel and the subsequent challenges they face on their honeymoon. The narrative lacks the depth needed to fully explore the complexities of their connection, and the castle's role in creating distance feels underdeveloped.

While the central theme revolves around love transcending death, the character dynamics and emotions are not fully explored. Readers may find it challenging to connect with Terra and Nathaniel on a deeper level, as their relationship and struggles are presented in a somewhat superficial manner.

Despite the intriguing premise, "The Mystery of Frankenstein's Bride" falls into the trap of sacrificing character development for the sake of a swift plot. The potential for a more immersive exploration of love and the supernatural is present, but the execution prevents the narrative from fully realizing its ambitions.

In conclusion, "The Mystery of Frankenstein's Bride" is a quick read with an interesting premise, but it doesn't delve deep enough into its themes to create a truly captivating experience. The rushed pacing and underdeveloped character dynamics contribute to a narrative that, while promising, leaves readers wanting more depth and nuance. Hence, a three-star rating reflects the book's potential and some engaging aspects, but also acknowledges its missed opportunities in delivering a more profound and resonant story.

I will start this review off by saying that Frankenstein is one of my favourite books of all time, so I was excited to read this. The way it was told in verse was interesting. The story itself lacked direction, and I struggled to find meaning. Also, the monsters name was not Frankenstein. That may bother me simply because I love the original text, though it can be confusing. I think this story was told in modern times as cars were mentioned, but did not understand her calling the police, telling them her husband was dead because she dug him up, etc. Furthermore, the story was all over the place and much too short to do anything of substance with the authors ideas. Unfortunately this was a very big miss for me. As I do not like to share such negative reviews to my social media or Goodreads, I will not be posting it there.

This was a very quick read being 19 pages long. I thought I would like this with Frankenstein being one of my favorite books. However, it didn't flow well.

Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this as a short story and it has a nice writing style. Yet, I wanted to like this story more than I did because I am a Mary Shelley fan. But, I tried to look at it as something different because it was. I felt the characters didn't have time to develop, but I loved what we got from them, yet I didn't feel connected enough. The illusions in this story were well done though and it helped me see the story, which I liked by helping provide good details.

A super short read with little character development. I think the plot allows for more and it just wasn’t there. The story and the writing seemed rushed and disjointed. There was no true aspects of horror or humor both of which are found in Frankenstein. If you are going to use a plot that is reminiscent of such a staple in the horror field, I just feel like it should’ve been done better.

When love takes a turn, what are you willing to do to keep it?

Terra's love life is a monster so she sets out to see her old flame Nathaniel Johnston. But when she finds he is no longer living either, eternity is theirs. Bringing him back will get her a husband because of her passionate feelings for him.

Johnston is her new life, but when they are on their honeymoon in Germany things take a bad turn. The castle they stay in creates too much distance between the two.

Can she get closer to him before it's too late?⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved the idea but I didn’t love the actual book. It was a quicker read but not my favorite, I will give it another chance however and re read.

Thankfully this is just a quick read being such a short book.

I loved the idea and concept to develop the characters further in following on with the Bride of Frankenstein.

There is little character development however, a poverty of plot and not a lot to commend it to others. The actual writing was bitty and jumped about without any clear narrative or direction.

Overall it is a confusing ramble of not being able to get your ideas onto paper quickly enough. I had no-one to centre my reading on other than the Bride who is far from convincing as a protagonist. Consequently, I am left was just a few aspects the horror situation presents but more in my imagination rather than drawn out in the story.

I did like the illusion of make up to play the part of undead among the living, and bride’s attention to detail remembering to take a breath to appear alive. But these were not exploited enough and I feel it is an opportunity missed.

Written straight without satire, gory humour or true horror this is a story I will quickly forget.

1.5/5
This is a super short and quick read and I loved the concept but there's little character development and the writing wasn't the best. It was jumping from action to action without any good narrative or direction.

Overall it's very confusing and felt like the author was given 10 minutes to come up with the story and write it all down on paper. I personally wouldn't recommend the story just for the simple fact that I didn't understand a single thing that actually happened during this short read.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.

The book cover is really attractive. I'm a monster fan, and even though Frankenstein is not my favorite monster story, I decided to give this a shot.

I'm not sure what to make of this title. First and foremost, I'm glad it was only 15 pages long. I guess this is a bit of movie fanfiction, because it is completely unrelated to the original Frankenstein novel. The spelling and grammar were terrible. Since the story is only 15 pages long, the fact that it wasn't edited at all just feels inexcusable. Concepts were barely fleshed out. For example, Bride (AKA Terra) tells police her husband is a murderer because there is black thread. That doesn't make any sense, especially since she didn't explain to the police that he was a dismembered corpse that she had sewn together with black thread. It doesn't make sense that he was completely dismembered to begin with, since he died in a car accident. Who cut up his body prior to burial? And why did she immediately accuse her new husband, instead of considering that her original fiancé might be the culprit and coming to take vengeance on her for leaving him? What even happened to him, anyway?

There are so many typing mistakes, plot holes, and loose ends to this short story. I'm afraid this is not the kind of work I would consider purchasing or recommending to anyone.

I haven't read any of the Frankenstein books before so I can't compare this book with them.

Terra or Frankensteins Bride is just wanting love, so when Frankenstein goes off into a killing spree. Terra resorts back to one of her previous loves, Nathaniel. However Nathaniel is decapitated in his coffin, so nothing like black thread won't fix, right? Terra puts Nathaniel back together and goes off and gets married, can they be hopeless romantics on their honeymoon?

I love the romantic gothic side to the book, and although it was a quick read, the storyline often jumped. Therefore it was confusing and sadly it ended very abruptly, which I didn't like at all.

I want to say thankyou to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC in exchange for a honest review.

I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. A great new take on an old story that I couldn't put down until finished.

Terra is the bride for Frankenstein, however he was ours running around killing people. Terra was disappointed. They had so much in common. She thought back to the young men she had dated before her early death. What did she die of? She remembers one man, Nathaniel Johnston, she was in love with when she was alive. She decided to look him up at his home. She peeks into the bedroom window only to learn that he died. How did he die? She goes and gets his body from the cemetery and takes it to where she was brought alive. She successfully brings him back but he is purple. They wed and then go on their honeymoon at a castle. They spend time together then go back to their room. He leaves to go to the cellar. Terra waits and waits. What and where is her husband? Will she find him?

Though this is a short story, I did enjoyed it. The bride was an independent, self confident and thoughtful. She shows what a woman can do under any unexpected circumstances. I enjoyed Terra not giving up on having what she wanted. It’s a quick read. I thought that parts were funny. It’s a story that is a humorous horror story.

This is a short story about Terra, the to be bride of Frankenstein and her former lover Nathaniel who she brings back from his grave after knowing from her neighbour that the person she once loved was dead.

The idea of the story is quite unique and somewhat creepy, first I really thought it’d be a fun read but definitely it isn’t. Bringing back dead to life isn’t a good idea, that Terra realised in a hard way. She regrets later on.

This was a quick read it only took half & hour to finish the book.

Funny thing is at first I thought few pages are missing but then I downloaded everywhere possible and realised that’s this a short story not even a novella. And I expected more pages cause I liked the storyline and the way it was started.

Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The Mystery Of Frankenstein's Bride by Martha Wickham is a short story about Terra who brings her lover back.
The writing style was new to me and interesting. The idea of ghosts, zombie, and castle was creepy that I wish wasn't too short.
Well, I don't think it was a good idea to bring back a man from his grave, especially when he left you in the first place? :)

I liked the writing style. There was a sense of jumping through actions and I thought it was really fitting with the character of Frankenstein.

I read this short story only because it contained the word ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘bride.’ I thought it would be a fun concept. I am a fan of anything related to Frankenstein and the title just talked to me. I have to admit that I was expecting too much out of a story so short.

I still think that it lacked in places but has a lot of scope for improvement. I think a few revisions would do the work. There is nothing unique that needs to be added. It’s an enjoyable story. Just a few tweaks here and there.

I like the characters but I’m not sure where my focused lied. I didn’t know any of the characters well enough. It was also confusing to me when it said Frankenstein’s bride. I assumed her to be someone who is frustrated with Frankenstein. Who doesn’t want any more of his experiments. I don’t think it satisfied the title of the story.

Maybe this story is better suited in a longer version, with more details and character development. The story felt incomplete otherwise.

I found this one after reading the Mary Shelley Club and thought it would be a great read since I was already in the Frankenstein mood but I'm sad to say I wasn't a fan. That's not to say that the book wasn't good or that the writing was lacking, it didn't keep me held to the pages.
I was unprepared for the writing style which isn't my favorite.

"The bride of Frankenstein sat on her throne listening to the radio."

I wasn't expecting the writing style this was in. I liked it. It definitely worked for the story. And that cover is beautiful!

However, I didn't feel connected to the bride.
I am a huge Frankenstein fan so I appreciated the idea of this story. Finding out who the bride, Terra, was before the mad scientist got to her
It really wasn't a bad read, I just wanted more from it.

This is a short book, but perhaps there's an idea for growth. The main character, the 'bride', is a woman who just can't get her love life right. A lot of us can relate to that. However, her decisions go from bad to worse and eventually lead to her death.
I enjoyed the bit where the bride must do herself up to fit in with the living. We makeup ourselves to resemble zombies and creatures for Halloween, here it's the reverse. She makes herself up to mix with everyday people.
I also liked the castle. It was strange, dark, and emotive; all the things you'd want to find in a Gothic castle.
My only critique is that this is just a teaser. The story needs more pages, more words that lead us on a longer journey. The bride's story could be so much fuller.
