I'm a sucker for any book with a cartoon cover at this point. Also, I've been loving NYC-based rom-coms right now so this book fit right in! The slow burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers was exactly what I needed and did the tropes justice!

At first I thought I was going to DNF this book. I don’t typically enjoy romances where one protagonist starts off in a relationship with someone other than the main love interest. But the writing was compelling enough to keep me reading, and I mostly enjoyed the book. It still has issues: the pacing and the ending are way off, in my opinion. Still, I would recommend this book for contemporary romance readers who enjoy books about books.

This was adorable! I loved the publishing career Lanie had and the story within a story. The romance within a romance was very cute and something I haven't read before. I was honestly holding my breath for the ending I wanted, if it had gone any other way, I would have been disappointed, but Lauren Kate knows how to give her readers what they want! Lauren Kate leads you right up to the edge and catches you with a warm hug. I had tears in my eyes from the sweetness of the love story. Definitely recommend to romance readers - 4.5 stars but rounding up since there are no half star options.

Thank you NetGalley and GP Putnam's Sons for allowing me access to this story.

Publisher falls in love with her author who was sceretly a man writing romance novels was everything that I love about romance novels. Helping him find the spark and inspiration for his next novel while slowly falling in love was so sweet.

Book within a book.
I really enjoyed reading this one.
I wasn't sure at first but as I was reading I loved Lanie and Noa Callaway and their relationship also creative process of story line of a book.
Lanie, an assistant book editor loved all the books by Noa Callaway since her books changed her life forever. She was ready to become a doctor when she read a book by Callaway, it changed everything she believed in and she had change of heart on her career to become an editor. Now she is ready to be the editor she has been dreaming of until she finds out who Noa really is and how her life will be changing.
This book makes you laugh, cry and think . Once I was into the world of this book, I couldn't put it down. Lanie's emails and responses were great. It keeps you until the end. I loved how they wrote a plot within a plot.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Publishing for ARC.

A cute, quick read, adorable from start to end.

I enjoyed the romance despite or maybe because of the enemies-to-lovers trope and totally adored the development of this relationship; the peek into the writing, editing, and publishing world; checking out various locales with the characters in New York and elsewhere; Lanie’s (the protagonist) love of books; all those cool books that the bestselling author inside this book has supposedly written (now I just want someone to write those books!!); and last but not the least, the fact that it is a cute, quick read, adorable and totally sweet from start to end!!

Get it for yourself or for anyone you know who enjoys cute romances

Disclaimer: Thanks to Netgalley for the digital review copy of the book. These are my honest opinions of the book.

An enormous thank you to NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, and of course Lauren Kate for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I don't know why it took me so long to finally take the plunge and read this book, but it was an absolute delight from start to finish. I loved the storyline from start to finish and read the entirety of this book in two sittings.

I loved Lanie and Noah and watching their story unfold. That ending had me swooning and I absolutely loved how everything wrapped up- I honestly wish it were longer, I wanted these characters in my life longer.

BD, Meg, and Rufus were all absolute delights as side characters, I adored BD with all my heart.

Will definitely check out other books by this author!

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

Lanie is an editor for a romance company and has found the man of her dreams - Ryan. He checks every box, literally, on her 99 point checklist. She is enjoying her life, stressing about trying to plan a wedding without her mom who died several years ago. Something keeps her from pulling the trigger to set the date.

Due her supervisor leaving the job to spend more time with her newborn, Lanie receives a temporary promotion. She needs to get the world famous, promotion dodging client, Noa Callaway to deliver their past due manuscript. Lanie's boss gives her an ultimatum - get the manuscript in on time, and the promotion will be yours, permanently. If you do not, then........

The issue - no one has ever spoken to or seen Noa Callaway. They are a recluse - there is a lot of speculation, but in order to get this manuscript done, the author agrees to meet with Lanie. Let us say - it is a meeting that throws Lanie for a loop.

This book was great fun to read. The author paints such a picture, I felt like I was at the book launch, that I was touring NYC with them it was great fun. I look forward to more books by this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Penguin Group Putnam, G.P. Putnam’s Sons, for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. This honest review was based off my experience reading this eARC, which in no way biased me. All opinions are my own.

This was an average read. Nothing really stood out on this. It was weirdly paced and predictable. I was waiting for something to happen the whole time.I don’t really know what else to say about it. I really felt like this being marketed as “enemies to lovers” is misleading. It really didn’t fit that vibe and I feel like a lot of people want to read it BECAUSE “enemies to lovers is in the synopsis, and they’re probably going to be disappointed.

I love the cover. It’s one of the things that drew me to requesting this book.

I really hated the main character of this book. She seemed really judgmental and a gatekeeper of the romance genre. She acted like men couldn't like romance books unless they're gay. And she makes assumptions on what gay men should look like. And then she makes a comment on making her shelves more diverse. Which made it feel like the author just wants brownie points for speaking about dversity. The dialogue was awkward and all the side characters were one-dimensional. And it wasn't really a rom-com.

This was a cute, fun, and quick read! I love the cover and the overall easiness of this story. I recommend for a summertime book!

Let me start off by saying I really DID like this book. By Any Other Name was a slow burn in the best way. It felt real and raw and really spoke to the enneagram 7 in me. I felt that Lanie and Noah had very real chemistry that could be felt off the page. I loved the concept of finding out your favorite female author is a man, let alone your you've got mail pen pal of the past several years. That element along with the fact that the characters felt like people that exist in my life today had me speeding through this book like a jet ski on the lake. All that being said I found myself utterly dissatisfied with the ending. That's not to say I didn't love it right up until the very end, I just went to the next page and out loud said "what!?". The fact that the book ended when it did felt like a disservice to the story we had been given so far. I wanted the ends of the rope to be tied into a better bow instead of a hasty knot. I do still recommend this book, BUT keep in mind that if you usually froth at the mouth for any number of epilogues and bonus chapters then this ending may not be for you! It was still incredibly well written and full of quirks that felt like an inside joke with the reader.

3.5/5

This one swept my off my feet--I was surprised since it went under the radar at release. A stunner for You've Got Mail fans, of which there are many.

was very excited for this one but decided to dnf 30% in, i just didn’t like the main character & the pacing enough to continue. too many books out there to force myself to finish one i wasn’t enjoying :/

This was definitely a cute read, but it did leave me wanting more. Our two main characters have been messaging each other for seven whole years, but it didn’t feel like that. I wanted more chapters of them together. They would hang out and then spend a few weeks apart. I also could have used an additional chapter at the end or an epilogue. Right when it was really getting exciting, it ended. But overall, a cute and easy read.

Took me a while to finish this book. First of all there's hardly any romance in the first section. If a book is categorized under romance I'm assuming it'll be all throughout or at least in the back end. I nearly stopped reading this several times but I pushed through and I'm not sure if I'm glad I did. Nearly all the first half was the main character talking about her work, fiance and it's not until the second half where things, I don't want to say truly get moving, but get started. Also, just a nitpicky thing, but when there's a lot of sexual commentary and no lead up? Why bother.
