I can’t get enough of the books in this series. Every single one is beautifully illustrated and gives a short little snippet of the life of the person featured.

Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to historic figures. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

Yay! Another fabulous biography for the kiddos! This one is about our current VP, Kamala Harris. As with all of the books in this picture book series, this one starts out when the subject is a child. We learn about how Kamala's parents met and how they raised their two kids. It is from her parents and friends that Kamala gained a passion for law and justice. She went on to become a lawyer and district attorney. Most recently she broke major glass ceilings by becoming the first female VP, the first Asian American VP and the first African-American VP of the United States. Truly an inspiring story for the littles, loaded with lots of colorful illustrations that will pull them right into her life story.

I always like reading Little People, Big Dreams series. I think the illustrations are cute and I like how children can start learning about people past and present. Kamala Harris is an important figure for children to learn about since she is not only the first women Vice President, but the first African American Vice President. Whenever I have children then I would get this book to add to their over flowing collection.

I'm so sorry - I only had this title as an acsm file, and it expired before I got around to reading it. My apologies!

I have given a 5-star rating by way of apology, and because I can't Give Feedback without giving a star rating.

Apologies again, and best of luck with your publications!

I love how this series will put together easy to understand biographies of famous, and not so famous people, so that children can get a taste of who they are.

In this case, this was written about the current vice president of the United States, shortly after she was elected. This gives her background, and how she has and continues to be the first, but not the last at things.

As always, I would highly recommend any book in this series, and this is a great overview.

4★
“Kamala was a Californian girl whose mom came from India and dad came from Jamaica. They fell in love at a civil rights march, and kept marching as a family, with Kamala next to her sister’s stroller.”

We would do well to remind ourselves that it’s never too early to encourage children to stand up for civil rights.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Kamala, holding a sign with a heart in one hand, and her sister’s stroller with the other as she marches with her parents and others.

Her mother wanted to make sure her girls would grow up to be “young, gifted Black women”, so the girls took a long bus ride to distant schools where they made new friends.

Something Kamala especially loved was visiting India, where she enjoyed the food (of course!) and talking with her grandfather and his friends about justice and equal rights. As I said, you really can’t start too young encouraging kids to think.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Kamala visiting her mother’s father in India – note the sari and matching sneakers!

She lived in Canada for a while and discovered one of her friends had an abusive stepfather, so she invited her to live with them. That was the spark that sent her on her way to become a lawyer to help people. After law school, she became a prosecutor, protecting the vulnerable.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Kamala at work

Later she was elected as San Francisco’s District Attorney, the first person of colour to serve in the role! Moving right along, she was elected Attorney General of California and then as a US Senator. Determined to achieve the highest platform she could to pursue her cause of justice, she competed for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

When Joe Biden won the nomination, he chose her as his running mate.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
“They weren’t rivals anymore, but a team of two.”

Note the Covid masks, hers with a heart like her first protest sign. She’s also wearing her favourite Converse sneakers, as are a couple of the children following.

When they won the election in 2019, there were celebrations all the way back to her parents’ homelands, Jamaica and India.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
“All around the world, people celebrated Kamala and Joe’s victory. Above all, two little villages in the north of Jamaica……and the south of India. There were reggae tunes and fireworks to honor her roots and wish her the best!”

Kamala Harris has been the first in a lot of roles, but Vice President of the United States is the biggest so far! I am very fond of this last illustration, which shows her with her husband and the Bidens in front of the White House. They are all dressed in what might be called ‘smart casual’ and she is still in her comfortable shoes – a woman after my own heart (although she does do heels and gowns very well, too).

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the caption:
Doug, Kamala, Joe, Jill on the White House lawn

This is a very simple introduction to one of the most influential women in the world, and I hope it will inspire other little girls to dream big and stand up for equality and fairness. As with the rest of this series, there are further resources, a few real photos, and a slightly more informative text at the end.

I consider these valuable tasters for children and their teachers and the grownups in their lives (including older kids who may read to them).

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing’s Frances Lincoln Children’s Books as always for the preview copy from which I’ve included a few illustrations.

Kamala Harris, a new book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. The bestselling series explore the lives of outstanding people; all of them achieved incredible things that started as big dreams. As children, we always choose what we wanna be when we grow up. The vast majority rarely become what they planned. But there are others that live out their dreams. Kamala Harris is one!

First woman, first Black, first South Asian American to be elected Vice President of the United States. Little Kamala accompanied her parents to civil rights marches. They would walk and push her in the stroller. As a little girl she dreamed of being a lawyer to help people. Later, she earned a law degree to make sure the most vulnerable people were protected by justice. Her dreams became true when she became a politician.

Kamala Harris is intended for beginning readers. You may also read it to babies and toddlers. Inspiring stories should start before they can even walk. The illustrations are stylish. The sentences are simple. The extra facts are educational and the historical photos add to context.

This wonderful children's book inspires younger generations to dream big! Goals are attainable! Most of all, little people can change the world! I recommend gifting Kamala Harris to the young girl or boy in your life. If you are not surrounded by little people, purchase a copy and donate to your local library.

Happy Early Pub Day, Vegara and Semmer! Kamala Harris is now available.

Our family loves the Little People Big Dreams books. It's hard to say which are our favorites at this point, because we read and re-read them all. My 6 year old loves them, and this one was read countless times. I do not think you can go wrong with any book in this series, to learn even a little about the real lives of people who have gone before us is wonderful. The illustrations are as always, delightful. The story of Kamala Harris made an inspirational read for all of us.

The publisher made a copy of this book available for review via Netgalley. This is my honest opinion.

Another excellent entry into the Little People Big Dreams line up. It is a simple story of our current Vice President from birth to office. It’s well done and I love how the illustrator almost always has her shoes as converse, even when she is in a suit. It matches the VPs vibe quite well.

Whilst a non-fiction children’s book, Kamala Harris by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a great resource to educate and inspire kids around the world. With bright coloured pictures and a factual content, it sets out the journey of Kamala as a child of immigrants to Vice President of the United States of America. The language of the story is complex at times, but it allows adults to not only to read but to talk about it to those listening. Whilst relating the life of one person, it pays tribute to migrants and acknowledges the American dream. Overall, a high-quality colourful presentation that children will love and enjoy with their adults – a don’t miss four-star rating. With many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Children's Books and the author, for an uncorrected proof copy for review purposes.

Another wonderful addition to this series! Young readers would enjoy this book about the first female Vice President!

Who doesn't know the famous new Vice President of the United States? When she won the election along with Joe Biden as president, the whole world was thrilled. She is from Black and Asian descent. We are all proud of her, and some even aiming as high as her.

Born in a family of Indian mother and Jamaican father, Kamala knows civil right since young age. A topic of discussion of her Indian Grandpa and his friends, whom she loves to hear from. So Ms. Harris aimed high, and higher still, until she's on top. Who knows what her next aim is, but we put our hopes in her.

Kamala Harris by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another excellent book in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. I love how this book focused on Kamala Harris, the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian American to be elected vice president of the USA! The illustrations, facts, timeline, and profile included in these books are some of my favorite things – hope to see this series continue! #KamalaHarris #NetGalley

Another great addition to the series! Easy to read and relatable for children. Definitely adding this to the collection. Loved being able to read this one before its publication, thanks NetGalley!

I am so glad Kamala Harris gets her own book in this series! I love reading this series so having another famous woman in politics get her chance to shine was just awesome. I really wanted to learn more about her too!

Again, the artwork in this book is off-putting for me. It's not fun and child-like, it's very... meh. I don't like it and it feels like a child make it. And that's okay, but it just didn't feel... real. It was odd.

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This book about Kamala Harris is from the "My First Little People, Big Dreams" series. That is a series of books for children focusing on famous people, their dreams, and the differences they've made in their lifetime. Kamala's parents met at a civil rights march and as a child she marched with them. There are pages covering her bussing across town to school, college at Brown University, earning a law degree and becoming a prosecutor. And of course becoming the first person of color to serve as vice president. That also makes her the highest-elected Asian American ever. I like the series of books. The facts are basic and colorful pictures help tell the story. It is geared to ages 4-7 but I think kiddos in that age range would need the book read to them. But it is a good way to open up conversations about civil rights and other accomplishments that Kamala represents. I think this would be a great addition to my elementary school library. Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Children's Books for a temporary ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fantastic addition to the popular Little People Big Dreams series. Informative and inspiring text on the life of Kamala Harris paired with beautifully bright illustrations. Another sure-fire hit. My daughter wanted to hear more about Kamala's childhood. She particularly liked the page where Kamala's aunt in India lines up 108 coconuts to wish her good luck in the running for California's attorney general.
