I’m kicking myself for waiting to read this until now.

I was looking for a romcom that would make me smile, and To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before was perfect.

I can’t wait to read some of Lizzie Shane’s other works (which I already have copies of) and would definitely recommend this to others.

After getting to "know" Elinor and Levi in the previous books in this series I was really excited to see their story. While these books could be read as standalones, I would recommend reading them in order to get the whole effect.

Since I own a cattle dog I could really relate to Elinor's pain when her new dog Dory keeps escaping during the day. Watching Levi fall for the dog was also so heartwarming. I loved seeing the character growth for both Elinor and Levi since second chance romances can be hit or miss for me. Overall this was a heart warming, small town romance that every dog lover should read.

In Lizzie Shane’s To All the Dogs I Loved Before, the third installment in the Pine Hollow contemporary romance series, this endearing romance has plenty of sweet scenes with a hint of humor. This contemporary romance has a great mash-up of grumpy-sunshine and second chance for the tropes that makes this an awesome lovely story. It all started when the town newsletter’s editor reported that Elinor Rodriguez was back together with her ex-fiance Levi Jackson. In Pine Hollow, Vermont, it gave their small town something to talk about and speculate. Though it wasn’t true and nothing but conjecture. But when Elinor’s Aussie Dory keeps escaping from her home, Police Chief Levi Jackson keeps bringing it back to her, safe and sound. Elinor, the school librarian, has always hated Levi for blindsiding her on their broken engagement three years ago. She didn’t know why or for what reason. While she deals with her younger sister Charlotte’s relationship problems, she has aspirations to become a published author. For Levi, he had kept a secret he never told anyone: he has dyslexia. And he didn’t want to be anything like his old man and how he treated women. But everytime when Dory escaped, he was always on call to bring it back to Elinor, though he always took care of her and did things for her when she least expected it. While being the police chief for Pine Hollow, he was always there for her and his friends. But in the end, would he tell the truth to Elinor about his true feelings for her to make things right?

This heart-warming contemporary romance is moving and heartfelt. I cared for Elinor, who always thought she was perfect in everyone’s eyes. She might be too harsh on Charlotte and cared for Dory and her students. And she would never give up on love and on her dreams. I adored Lexi, since he’s diverse as a main character with a learning disability. We don’t see that everyday and need more of them in novels. I loved how he became fond of Dory and looked out for people in Pine Hollow. Dory was a hoot and adorably sweet Aussie who loved Levi and Elinor. The location of Pine Hollow, Vermont, is lovely and wholesome for a small New England town with picturesque scenic settings. The theme of the story is no one’s truly perfect when love will find the way.

This sweet contemporary romance is recommended for those who love dogs in the story with a second chance storyline. I rated this book, four out of five stars for no reason. If you love romances with non-stop romantic action, plenty of suspenseful drama, and hints of sweet loving romance, add To All the Dogs I Loved Before to your TBR list . This book is recommended for fans who love Hallmark Movies, Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, and Marina Adair.

I enjoyed reading this book. It is full of the small-town charm I’ve come to love with highly likeable characters. Dory’s adventures provided both some comedy and drama to the story: you can’t help but fall for this lovable canine.

Second-chance romance is one of my favourite tropes. Three years after Levi suddenly broke off their engagement without any explanation has left Elinor still confused and angry about the sudden break-up. They’d been a couple on and off since high school and had finally been a place where they could marry.

The reason for the break up was slowly revealed, as was the history of their relationship. Levi has a complex history surrounding the way he was parented and educated including a late-to-diagnose learning challenge. After a tragedy on the job, Levi’s focus is keeping the town safe despite everything he must sacrifice to do so.

Elinor has always been seen by the town for her exceptional intellect. As the school’s librarian, she’s trying to connect with as many students as she can. As a budding author, she knows it’s time to try and write the book she’s always wanted to publish.

The star of the book for me was Dory - a good example of a dog bred to be working dog who doesn’t appreciate being alone at home while Elinor is away. The way the town embraces Dory is loving and heart-warming. I’m looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Thank you to Forever Publishing for the finished copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this back to back with another Lizzie book and let me tell you, Lizzie Shane is what the doctor ordered. You can't help but be in a good mood while reading her writing - my only complaint is I WANT MORE!

Recently I’ve found myself not being drawn to traditional romances. I love my rom coms and other stories (contemporary or otherwise) with heavy romance elements but something about the sweeter, Happily Ever After stories hasn’t been working for me lately. But To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before? Oh. Oh, friends. I adored it. It’s the third book in Lizzie Shane’s Pine Hollow series and I have to say it’s my favourite.

Here’s the book’s description:
The last person librarian Elinor Rodriguez wants to spend time with is her first love, Levi Jackson, but it seems her mischievous rescue dog has other ideas. Without fail, Dory slips from the house whenever Elinor’s back is turned. And in Pine Hollow, calls about a dog herding cars on Main Street go straight to Levi. The quietly intense lawman broke Elinor’s heart once, and now she’s determined to move on, no matter how much she misses him.
As the kid who barely graduated—and still struggles to hide his dyslexia—Levi always believed that Elinor was way out of his league. Even though he ended their engagement all those years ago, Elinor still takes Levi’s breath away whenever he sees her. But with a little help from a four-legged friend, Levi and Elinor may just get the second chance they deserve.
I’ve been burned by second chance romances in the recent past so I admit I was a tad wary of this one and how the trope would play out. Happily, it totally worked for me. Elinor and Levi had had an on again-off again relationship for years and they had such a solid friendship foundation. Their romantic relationship ended only a few years ago so it wasn’t like they were wide-eyed high school kids when they broke up. They had some big issues to work through and I was almost worried that they wouldn’t be able to get past them. There wasn’t really miscommunication so much as no communication and Elinor didn’t really understand why Levi ended things. She was quite protective of her heart, and I couldn’t blame her, so I was firmly Team Elinor as Levi worked on his issues.

Speaking of Levi’s issues, it was sometimes difficult to get past his “woe is me, no one can love me because I’m not worth it” feelings. They’re totally valid feelings and I’m so SO glad that Shane had him work past his prejudices to therapy and realize how much it can help. It just seemed like that was the only thing holding him back from being with Elinor and he refused to discuss it. It got a bit repetitive by the time they figured everything out.

Some of the storyline was pretty heavy because Levi’s personal issues were tough for him and Elinor was still working through her grief after the death of her best friend. Shane made sure to have some light hearted moments throughout to keep this romance more sweet than sad. Dory’s antics provided some much needed levity and the couple-to-be’s friends were always welcome on page. It was nice to get caught up on what was happening with the crew from the previous books and planning for a wedding always makes for some good stories.

An aside: I loved that Elinor and her sisters were all named after Jane Austen characters. It was a delightful added bonus for this Austenite.

I just loved getting back to Pine Hollow and the world and characters Lizzie Shane created. I really, really enjoyed reading To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before and was a bit sad when it was all over. I’m looking forward to book 4, about Elinor’s sister, but it will take some time before I can accept it’ll be a new story and won’t be focused on Elinor and Levi who I just adored.

Content warnings: grief (death of best friend and mother in the past and off-page), cancer (death by in the past and off-page and side character currently in remission), father-son strained relationship (some emotional abuse when growing up)

I've read the first two books in this series, The Twelve Dogs of Christmas and Once Upon a Puppy and really enjoyed them both. This one also hit the mark! If you love a second chance romance with a healthy dose of dog, then this book will be for you!

The first two books in the series were also about love and dogs and they've all been really sweet stories. This one followed main characters Elinor and Levi. Elinor is a librarian and Levi is a police chief. The two had a long love story, starting when they were young. They were even engaged at one point before Levi broke it off without any explanation. But living in the same small town meant they would have to keep running into each other. When Elinor's rescue dog Dory keeps escaping while Elinor is at work, it seems to always be Levi that finds her and it ends up bringing them even closer together.

I love the cute small town of Pine Hollow where the story takes place. I love the friendly community and it seems so picturesque. I love the second chance romance story and the characters were great. And of course, I'm always a fan of a cute dog being a focus of the story! I'm really looking forward to the next book, Pride and Puppies!

A sweet second chance romance. I clicked to get an advanced copy purely based on the adorable cover and well the dogs! Elinor has little interest in spending even the briefest of moments with Levi. Ever! He unexpectedly broke her heart with no explantation and it is hard enough to avoid him in their small town without her her dog forcing them together when he runs away every moment he gets. It’s a sweet story of starting anew, letting go of old hurts, discovering old truths and moving forward for the inevitable happy ever after. A lovely fun read. And a seriously cute dog!!

This was so good! I have to admit that I picked this book up almost entirely because of the adorable cover. Yep, all you have to do is put a cute dog on the cover to get my attention. Plus, the dog is actually a big part of the story which all too often isn’t the case. I was pulled into this book from the first page and found it to be an incredibly entertaining romance. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the third book in the Pine Hollow series but I read it as a stand-alone and thought that it worked well. I had such a good time with this one that I am now eager to see if I can get my hands on the other two books in the series just as soon as possible.

Thank you to NetGalley for this complimentary ebook in exchange for my review.

This was such a cute story. Loved the small town setting and the fun characters. This book was definitely like a Hallmark movie. A clean closed door romance.

This is part of a series and I wish I had known that before I read it. It can be read as a standalone but better as part of the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an advance ereader of this title. I am loving this series and so glad that I discovered it. I really enjoyed the dog Dory and her antics and found all the characters to be very relatable. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

To All the Dogs I've Loved Before is a second chance romance set in a small town, with a splash of holiday flair sprinkled in as well. The story of Elinor and Levi is sweet and frustrating, it is obvious these two love each other and it must have been so annoying for the town to watch this play out over three years. I am happy with the story and the ending, it was a quick read and I really want to read about Charlotte.

Happy Monday y'all! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was way too short (as usual), but enjoyable! I didn't get as much reading done as I wanted to nor did I write any of the reviews that I wanted to, but I guess that's what the week's for, right?
Anyway, on to today's review! I'm obsessed with the Pine Hollow books by Lizzie Shane- I read all three of them so quickly during the time I had off around Christmas and New Years (feel free to read my reviews for book 1, The Twelve Dogs of Christmas, and book 2, Once Upon a Puppy, before you read my review for this one) and man y'all they were so good! I cannot wait to read book four when it comes out this year! As always, thank you so much to the wonderful folks at Forever for sending me a copy of To All the Dogs I've Loved Before- y'all are the best!
To All the Dogs I've Loved Before 4.5/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads:
First love gets a second chance when a mischievous dog finds a way to keep fetching the town librarian’s high school sweetheart in this charming small-town romance.
This was such a cute second chance romance! I'm always very 50-50 about second chance romances- sometimes I love them (like with this one) and sometimes I absolutely hate them, so I'm really glad that this one was in the "I love it" category. Elinor and Levi were characters that we had kinda gotten to know in books one and two, but I didn't realize just how much we didn't know them until I started reading To All the Dogs I've Loved Before. I loved getting to know them, learning their backstory, finding out about their failed engagement, and everything like that. I also really liked how Levi was pretty much the only person who was able to get Dory back every time she escaped and how throughout the book, she ended up becoming the police station's/the first responder's unofficial mascot. I also really liked how we got to see how life was going for our friends Ally, Ben, Connor, and Deenie (and Astrid of course). That's one of my favorite things about books that are set in the same world- they aren't always about the same characters, but at least we get to see how everyone is doing. In terms of plot and tempo and that kind of stuff, I thought it was pretty good- can't really complain. There were a couple of times where I was like... wait, how is Lizzie Shane telling us this now when we still have so much left in this book? But she was able to make everything flow together so well. I cannot wait to read the next book later this year and I cannot wait for y'all to read all of these books and tell me all of your thoughts! Go grab them now!

To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before (Pine Hollow #3). By Lizzie Shane. 2021. Forever (ARC eBook).

I loved Levi and Elinor’s second-chance romance. A very fun series with adorable dogs. The first book was great as well. I look forward to the rest of Shane’s matchmaking for the residents of Pine Hollow.

It was nice to return to Pine Hollow in the third book in the series with the same name. TO ALL THE DOGS I’VE LOVED BEFORE started off a little slowly for me. This is Levi and Elinor’s story, and it’s their second chance at romance. They take ten steps back each time they move one step forward, but Elinor doesn’t even know if she wants to be friends with Levi after he broke her heart three years ago, let alone more! The story has multiple plot lines all being pulled together, and we get to reunite with characters we’ve met before as well as meet new ones.

I enjoyed how dogs are once again central to the story, but especially Dory, Elinor’s dog. Dory seems to have her own agenda as Levi keeps chasing after her each time she escapes from the house. There are some sad and serious moments as well as some laugh out loud ones, but mainly the story has a feel-good vibe. Dyslexia seems to be spotlighted, and it’s interesting to see how the learning disorder is presented. I liked the depth to the story and the characters, and how mental illness and therapy played a part in the character growth. There is nice closure with the epilogue along with several happily ever afters. I like knowing that Elinor’s sister, Charlotte’s story will be next. And I love the cover!

Ms. Shane is an author whose books I’ve added to my TBR pile. I’ve enjoyed the three books that I’ve now read in this series and look forward to reading more.

This book was fantastic! So funny and sweet and perfect for even those who may not be dog lovers--though how can you not love a dog? Another great read from Lizzie Shane!

I already considered Lizzie Shane a favorite author after reading The Twelve Dogs of Christmas and Once Upon A Puppy, but her latest book, To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before, definitely clinched her auto-buy author status with me!

I read the book in two sittings and adored every part of it. The main characters’ second-chance romance, the side characters, the Jane Austen references, the banter, the sibling relationships, the podcasts - it was all just SO GOOD. I know this book will be a comforting re-read for years to come, one that I can curl up with on a cozy afternoon and get lost in all over again.

While the overall story was terrific, it was the antics of pup Dory that really stole the show. There was a scene involving a firetruck on pages 42-43 that had me cracking up. If you are a dog lover, this book is a must-read!

Ok, it wasn’t just Dory’s scenes that were brilliant. The MCs, Elinor and Levi, both had excellent self-discovery character arcs. And the friendships in the book continued to be wonderful just like in the first two books in the series.

Thank you to Forever for this 5-star read! I can’t wait for Shane’s next novel!

This is my first read from the Pine Hollow series, but I (1) did not feel out of place or out of the loop and (2) now cannot wait to go back and read more from this series. Lizzie Shane has a way of writing easy to read books that will keep you engaged and leave you smiling. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for a copy of this book for an honest review.

I think if you like romance and you have dogs it’s a fact that you will adore romance novels with dogs. The Pine Hollow series features dogs in each book. While you can read these as stand-alones, I recommend reading in order as there are recurring characters. The series (so far) has a group of male friends that are all the male leads. However, we met quite a few new characters in this book, and I’m eager to see if they will get their own romances!

This is a second chance romance for Elinor and Levi with a show stealer of an Australian Shepard (Dory) who is also an escape artist. Elinor and Levi started dating in high school. It seemed meant to be, but, somehow, it didn’t work out. Fast forward several years and their friends all seem to be matching up, so they are spending more time together. And Elinor’s dog loves Levi and invariably ends up with him when she escapes. Could this be their second chance?

I appreciated their growth and reflection along with their supportive friends and the adorable dogs!! It felt real. I’m looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked Elinor and Levi, but their story was slow. It took them way too long to have a conversation. That being said, Shane’s character development make the delay feel organic to the story. Come for the Austin, stay for puppy shenanigans.
