Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this book. "Pain Erasers: A Natural Doctor’s Guide to Safe, Drug-Free Relief will reveal new ways to naturally erase your pain, often permanently! You’ll discover dozens of natural painkillers, from a little-known but highly effective resin from the rainforest, along with such standbys as ginger and turmeric. And to boost the effects of these remedies, you’ll get helpful tips on how to change your diet and lifestyle for optimal health and pain and inflammation management." I learned a lot while reading this guide and will definitely bring some of the remedies into my life. You can use some of these instead of western medication.

I was so excited to read this book as I’m a huge advocate for herbs and other natural remedies. I know that herbs and diet and lifestyle changes work, as I’ve reversed a number of chronic illnesses like chronic migraines, neck pain from a car accident that even my physical therapist said would be lifelong, and CFS. After years of living with daily pain, I now live pain free (and drug free).

I was ultimately so disappointed though. This is really a list of essential oils for the most part. Cook covers a few herbs and some lifestyle changes but mostly it’s like one of those mass produced books where they aggregate a bunch of studies to quote for each essential oil. She recommends an MLM brand that she seems to sell, and there’s constant talk about being sure you buy that kind or you’ll do yourself in. I was pleased to see a chapter on gut health and thought maybe she doesn’t just recommend products she hawks, but then she repeatedly said to buy three books she’s written on gut health to learn more, so so much for that.

Even when the studies were about using herbs, she changes the advice to essential oils instead, saying they’ll be absorbed better. She recommends ingesting most of them, sometimes in capsules, which is not considered safe by most. And frankly, most herbs work better as teas, tinctures and infusions— not to mention being much better for the environment. The essential oil industry is not sustainable. While I do occasionally use EOs for a few uses, I would not personally choose them for daily long term ingestion over real herbs.

Ultimately I found that I didn’t learn much and often I knew of proven remedies that weren’t listed. I went to her website and she sells a lot of MLM “miracle” products like a very expensive spray that’s supposed to make your wrinkles disappear and make your balding hair grow back. This just wasn’t a good fit for me.

I read a digital ARC of this book for review.

Pain Erasers is written by Michelle Schoffro Cook, PHD DNM. I was unfamiliar with her title so I looked it up. A PHD DNM is a training level for natural medicine. I understand that the point of her book was to not take pills, but as someone with a chronic painful illness I felt like this book was probably not meant for me. I did like that safety information is included, but I also feel like a lot of oils and herbs that I use were not included. We use a tea for my husband's gout and none of the herbs that we use were included in the gout section.

This was a very helpful book. Here you will find natural remedies (mostly essential oils) for a few types of pain: back pain, arthritis, dental pain, fibromyalgia, and more.

If you want to know how to relieve pain without pharmacological drugs, this is a book for you. I also appreciate all the additional things you can do to help, like diet and lifestyle solutions.

Thanks to BenBella Books for the ARC and the opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own.

This is a good book on the use of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy pain and goes into excellent detail on the various essential oil properties, uses, cautions and describes some common pain issues. Many of the oils recommended for one issue were recommended for most, if not all. There was not a lot of advice beyond the use of essential oils. It does mention one specific brand. While it is important to buy quality essential oil, there are several brands that are very high qualitiy and less expensive than the brand mentioned. That kind of makes the book seem like a marketing ploy. The information on the oils is solid though. Thank you #Netgalley for allowing me to read and review #PainErasers

As a fibromyalgia sufferer I was interested in reading this book. I am a big fan of trying natural remedies first before using typical western medicine. If you are a fan as well, you will find a lot of great information in this book. It’s a book I will keep on hand and return to again!

Good reference book for someone who wants to use alternative medicine, and get away from big pharmaceutical. This would be great for recovering addicts who want to treat body ailments without relapsing. It’s also well organized that anyone can find what they need when using as a reference book later on.

If you are suffering from various kinds of pain, the main part of the book covers various essential oils that can be used for different kinds of pain. Each of these chapters gives an overview of the oil and its origin. After this is information about the types of pain it can treat and how to use it.

Unhappily, the directions on use are somewhat vague, although better than other books of this type.

Outside of this and the listing of pains and recommended oils, this book is poorly w4ritten and somewhat confusing.

The book might be good as a reference, but not as a book to read.

I am guessing most of us deal with some type of pain on a daily basis, especially if you are over the age of 40yrs old and in average health. If you don’t suffer now, the chances are high that at some point in the future you or a loved one will!! That’s why I was eager to read Pain Erasers by Michelle Schoffro Cook. I had read one of her other books titled The Ultimate pH Solution and I found the book very informative about how the acidity in your body affects your overall health. Most doctors don’t talk about this connection and Cook’s research was very comprehensive.

Pain Erasers is focused on natural remedies to overcome or lessen chronic or acute pain. Cook starts off by telling the reader about her story with pain. She was in a severe car accident that left her with a partially-severed spinal cord and later experienced the unbearable agony of a broken back. She didn’t want to deal with the awful side effects of opioids, so she started experimenting with natural remedies and found what worked to alleviate the pain that plagued her. Now, she is sharing with all of us so we can all live a happier, healthier and pain-free lifestyle.

I loved the layout of the book. Cook creates a profile on the different pain conditions, describing the problem and then listing the best remedy for that type of pain. So, if you suffer from back pain, you can look at that profile and find the natural remedies that might work for you. She includes a brief history of the recommended herb, its properties, how it works, and its effectiveness. Each of the profile recommended remedies were well researched.

I am a big fan of trying natural remedies first before using typical western medicine. If you are a fan as well, you will find a lot of great information in this book. It’s a book I will keep on hand and return to as the years progress.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book had a lot of really helpful information in it.

This was a good resource on use of essential oils for chronic pain management. I learned about several new to me remedies on using oils, herbs and other supplements that I am looking forward to trying myself. I liked description of different herbs, their properties and how best to utilize them. I found food section good, but a bit limited and would have preferred the book contained more pain management techniques for people suffering from chronic pain.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book.

Pain Erasers is a good resource for pain relief options. Thankfully, I do not suffer from chronic pain, but I am allergic to pain killers due to an autoimmune condition, so it is nice to have a handy guide for when I do need pain relief. I like having the index available as a tool for searchable terms. Some of the options under menstrual cramps were new to me, so I plan on giving them a try!

This is a good book to have in on hand. I loved hiw she used essential oils but I do not favor 1 brand over another. I liked how she broke down the herbs background and how to use it safely. If you can get over the slight push for doTerra this is a great natural remedy book.

I will be buying this book for my personal collection and recommending it to friends.

Pain Erasers The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to Safe, Drug-Free Relief by Michelle Schoffro Cook has a lot of great information for chronic pain sufferers. Some I have heard of, and some were new to me. This book gives you a lot of natural options. Try a few and see what works best for you.

This book has a lot of great information for chronic pain sufferers. Some I have already tried and they work, some were new to me. Either way, the balance is not only just using natural therapies, but also balancing that with dietary adjustments to help as much as you can. This book gives you a lot of great natural options that you can try and find what works best for you.

The one thing I am not pleased with is the author’s approach to essential oils. As a certified clinical aromatherapist, I NEVER recommend a brand of Essential Oils. While I agree that GC/MS (third party) reporting and some other items are critical for ensuring quality and purity (you’d be surprised how many brands claim to be pure but are nothing more than fragrance oils cut with a small amount of essential oils to make the claim), I do not make recommendations. I questions the author’s stake in doTerra as it is a Multi Level Marketing scheme and there have been some issues in the past. She should lay out several reputable brands and then share that she prefers doTerra, but just a single brand is biased in my opinion.

"Pain Erasers" talked about some natural remedies for pain. She focused mostly on using essential oils and strongly favored using the doTerra brand. However, she did have an informative section at the end which talked about making changes in your diet to promote anti-inflammatory foods and remove inflammatory foods as well as suggested some useful supplements. She started by telling her story and then doing short profiles on different types of pain. In these profiles, she briefly described the problem and listed the best remedies for that type of pain. For most of the problems, there was a lot of overlap on which were the best remedies (which is probably good news).

She then went into greater depth about each of these remedies. For each profile, she gave the common name as well as the Latin name, a brief history about the herb's use, some scientific information about how it works and how effective it is, information on how to use it as an herb or essential oil, and safety considerations like whether it's safe to ingest and how to safely do that. She also briefly explained other things the herb is good for.

In the safety section, she seemed to start with the exact same warning with only the herb's name changed. I thought it was odd that she was so concerned with dangerous solvent residues in the essential oils. Almost all of her suggested essential oils are steam distilled, so the solvent is water. Also, oregano oil is usually the herb steeped in an oil for some time, the herb strained out, and the oil ingested with food. This is not meant to be deceptive (as she implies) as they don't claim it's an ESSENTIAL oil. Even if an essential oil comes diluted in a carrier oil, they should clearly list that on the bottle.

I've already been using a number of these remedies for my rheumatoid arthritis pain. I generally felt like I knew more about the essential oils than she did. However, this is a good source of information for someone new to the topic of using essential oils and diet for pain relief.
