Thank you so much to NetGalley and Wattpad books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for review!

I first read Float almost a decade ago, as a high school freshman who eagerly awaited new chapters of Waverly and Blake’s story as they were uploaded to Wattpad. Now, as a 22 year old, the types of books I read have started to change, but a classic YA romance is still hard to deny! Nostalgia aside (maybe) - here’s my review!

Waverly Lyons is struggling in life - she’s inexperienced with boys, has no plans for her life, and is cursed with the gift of saying the wrong thing… constantly. When her cool Aunt Rachel (a truly solid book adult - rare!) invites Waverly to spend a summer in her cutesy beach town, the Alaskan native takes her up on it. She starts to settle in well, making new friends and getting to know the town. But there’s just one issue - Waverly has no idea how to swim. And there’s a lot of swimming involved. So who best to help her? Broody (but oh so charming) boy-next-door Blake Hamilton, lifeguard and dreamboat extraordinaire Cue the adorable summer romance!

Waverly is adorably awkward in a way that resonates with her age group. Blake is… the same Blake I loved 10 years ago! He is just sooo mysterious, but he has a secret soft side and personal background I think are dealt with really well. The supporting cast - Jesse, Lena, and Alissa - are some of my favorite parts of Float, and the whole gang makes for a really likeable bunch. They feel like realistic people who you want to root for. So many highlights I remember from Float are still in this version: concussion Scrabble, rain confessions, a side romance I love to pieces!!! But in cutting down the original story, I couldn’t help but feel like certain parts were a little rushed - namely Waverly learning to swim, which I felt like it should have been more central to the story. I also felt like the ending chapter or two were quite rushed, in that it went so up and down so quickly the stakes weren’t really felt.

Overall, my trip down memory lane did NOT disappoint, and now I hear there’s a movie version coming??????? Long live Float!

honestly, i really hated the MC. like, i feel like she tried way to hard to fit into everything and to look the right way and act the right way, that it just got to be so annoying. like, all of her crisis were just so annoying and i honestly really hated reading it all. i mean, with all of her actions, they could honestly kill her, but she just did it because she wanted to look to act or do the right thing, just to fit in. which, i mean it was so exhausting to read and i really didn't like it and i don't know why that it wasn't changed or fixed for this to be published.

another thing i really hated was blake. like he was just such a dick and i really hated reading about him cause he was just so selfish and not affectionate at all. like, he was such a dick to her and all of her actions were just unforgiveable cause he was such an ass and selfish jerk. and like it also got to be so annoying because nobody ever corrected him or nobody ever really says that he's treating the mc like shit. and like the whole ex girlfriend thing was so weird and stupid.

but, i also didn't really like the chemistry between them. like, it was just so unbelievable and i really didn't like all of the plot and that it was just wasn't there. like, so much of this book could have been improved if they gave them a little growth and didn't make it be such a mess and just improved the right things instead of the random side plots.

I really wanted to enjoy this one but I think I've hit the point where ya romance just doesn't tick the boxes for me anymore. Honestly I'm so gutted.

I've seen so many good reviews but I just couldn't get into this book and found myself just struggling to continue on. Sorry!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was ok. I felt it was kinda a waste of my time when I could be reading something I actually like. All in all I would probably not recommend this book.

I read this book when it was written on Wattpad before the revamp. And you know that I greek out when I found out that this book was going to be revamp and publish into the world.
Waverly kind of rolls with the punches when she goes to her Aunt for summer vacation. She is used to going back and forth with her divorced parents. What she did not expect is start falling for her next-door-neighbor, Blake.
I still fell in love with this book after so many years. It's such a cute YA romance story to read. Perfect romance story to read for beginner.

Float is one the best YA contemporary books I've read in a long time! It's charming in a sweet refreshing way. You fall in love with the characters instantly and by the end of the story they feel like friends. Waverly had never really felt like she's belonged, as a kid of divorced parents she's constantly bouncing back and forth. She gets to spend her summer in Florida with her Aunt Rachel and it's a chance for her to find herself. (Also Aunt Rachel is delight. I LOVE HER. Seriously give me an Aunt Rachel spin off.) Anyway Waverly finds her self hanging with seriously cute boy next door and his friends group. She finally finds her place only to have to go home a few weeks later. I love everything about this charming book! Float is the perfect pool or beach read!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. This book is fast paced. I absolutely adored Waverly, Lena character. This book is set between Florida and Alaska. The relationships and friendships in this book is great. I can't wait to read more books by this author. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. This book is in stores for $11.99 (USD).

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this teen-centric beach read. It felt like a very authentic representation of teen awkwardness, self-deprecation, and innocence, and as I read the acknowledgements, I can see why, The author began this book when she was 15 years old. I think teens will relate to this youthful voice and the sweet coming-of-age story of Waverly as she attempts to transform herself in a Florida beach town.

The problems I had with the plot were the redeeming qualities of Waverly, if any. She was awkward, and shy, but tried to cover with being rude and surly to the boy she liked! She seemed to always need rescuing, but I did appreciate her growth as the story went on by providing support to her boyfriend and friends.

I think this will be appreciated by teens who want to read about first loves and friendships that they can relate to.

What a fun and warm YA read! This delightful book will bring back memories of warm summer romances and will be an excellent pick for fans of Jenny Han.

The first thing that drew me to this book as I was scrolling through NetGalley books to request was the title and cover. I loved the simple and understated title with the very fun cover contrast. After reading the description I just knew that this would be a book for me... And boy was I right.

The flow of this story was easy and lighthearted. I was instantly drawn to Waverly's character and the setting of dropping a seemingly awkward girl from Alaska into the humid and sometimes horrible climate of Florida for a summer.

One thing that stood out to me and that I really loved - the girls that Waverly encountered as she started to find her bearings in Holden weren't awful to her. It was so refreshing to have people that were welcoming and looked past the things that Waverly hated so much about herself.

I'm amazed that the author started this at just fifteen, because while it was an easy read and definitely meant for a YA/NA audience, if you look closer at the relationships and dynamics throughout there's definitely more to the story than a summer romance. This is about finding yourself and feeling good in your skin, and also creating solid relationships with people who accept you for simply being yourself.

Overall a sweet read. Thank you to Netgalley for sending me this ebook to read ahead of the official release date on Feb 22, 2022.

Float is a charming story about a seventeen-year-old girl from Alaska spending her summer completely out of her element in Florida. Awkward and always mediocre-at-best, Waverly feels like a disappointment to her divorced parents, and wants to stay out of their way (and finally spend a summer NOT in the Arctic). She wants to reinvent herself, make friends, and have some "typical" teenage experiences. Waverly eventually realizes that she doesn't need to reinvent herself, she just gets to know herself better and becomes a more confident, stronger version of the person she already is.

I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially her friends the Fletcher twins. There are several characters who Waverly initially judges, and then finds out they have a very different story from what she assumed. I liked the plot because although it was a bit predictable, there were still surprises in how things unfolded. The story was amusing and kept me entertained.

If you are looking for an engulfing summery escape and enjoy teen/ya books, I would definitely recommend this one!

sadly this was a do not finish for me..i wasn’t attached to or rooting for the main character and i didn’t get swept away in the story like i like to with books.

Fish-out-of-water Waverly usually spends her summers with one of her divorced parents in Alaska. She’s pretty sheltered up there and hasn’t really had what is defined as the stereotypical media-fueled typical teenage experience (neither have I, for that matter, and neither have many of my friends, but that’s a conversation for another time.)

But this summer, she is going to Florida to spend the summer with her aunt—and her aunt’s next-door neighbour’s son, who happens to be her age.

We all know where this is going, both with regards to romance and teenage experience. And I’m sure you can imagine al the silly thing that can happen to a girl from the tundra spending her summer on a beach, for the first time ever. I thought the way that various relationships were seen through new, fresh eyes was a great way to identify and discuss some of the underlying patterns and tensions that invariably seep into them, especially when the group is small and tight knit. The overarching theme did seem to be not to judge a book by its cover, as every character ended up being quite different from the first impression that they gave.

Now about that typical teenage experience. I have mentioned before how I do not feel comfortable with this concept. I feel like the United States is way too diverse of a country to have a teenage experience monolith. And it begs to ask, how can books like this one, which, despite the presence of this monolith, it quite the interesting read, be consumed in a way that respects the diversity of the teenage experience?

I'm not crying, you're crying.
This was a fast paced contemporary beach read about family and the family-like bonds we make throughout our life. Perfect for the summer, and lazy days by the water, this book had me hooked until the final pages. This was an addictive read, keeping me stuck in the same spot for nearly two hours before, to my dismay, I remembered I was sitting in my room on a cold winters day and not vacationing to a beach-side town in the middle of a hot summer. I loved the characters and their relationships and all the details the author put into this book. I can't think of any critiques, and I just know once this comes out I will buy it and read it over and over again, because I can see this becoming a comfort read.
I would highly recommend this to any of my friends and i think this book deserves all the praise its gotten and all the praise it will get. I have high hopes for not only where this book will go, but also with what this author will do next.

I had the pleasure of first reading this book on wattpad, and it's just as funny and sweet as I remember it. 10/10 would recommend. I'm looking forward to more from Kate Marchant!

Going into this I thought it’s just be a really sappy corny cheeseball of a teenage summer romance and well it was but it was also a lot more than that. If you liked reading Sarah Dessen books growing up and some To All the Boys I Loved Before vibes you’ll enjoy this book. While it may not be a book I would initially go for at my age, this book was super cute and definitely a book I would’ve read and been obsessed over in high school. I also had no idea that this was written forever ago as fanfiction but has recently been published.

DNF at 10%/ This book had nothing to hook me and had really little plot. It felt like a Wattpad Fanfic.

**Received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I read this book in grade 7 maybe (?) on Wattpad and I was so excited when I received the ARC! Usually, re-reading my old fav Wattpad books doesn't hit the same, but this definitely did.

Float is a summer slow-burn romance, fluff and easy read! The book was edited well, the writing was decent (especially for a YA Wattpad book) and I enjoyed following Waverly's journey. She was so easy to like and relate to, especially to my younger self lol. One of my favourite aspects of (YA) books is when the MC is in a new environment because we learn everything as they do, and this book had that. I also loved the boy-next-door troupe. A couple of things:

- Many elements of the book were left up to interpretation and assumption, like her swimming lessons (?)
- Not a lot of realism, but who really reads romance books for that

Can't wait to see the film adaptation!

𝘍𝘓𝘖𝘈𝘛 is a true coming of age tale and an utterly adorable summer read full of warm romance and friendship-centric subplots and numerous laugh-out-loud moments perfect for fans Sarah Dessen and Jenny Han.

The author introduces us to Waverly, an Alaskan teen forced to spend the summer with her aunt in Florida. We start off with her arriving at the airport absolutely drenched, wholly unprepared for the sweltering, sticky monstrosity outside that is commonly referred to as the Floridian weather, but what's not aware of is what lies ahead of her, i.e. a month full of chaos, making friends and maybe even falling in love.

I wholeheartedly loved Waverly, she's a character you instantaneously connect with as she makes her first appearance. She's awkward, has her moments with self esteem but she also carries a lot of love for the world. For some reason it was refreshing to read a story told through the point of view of an awkward teenager as compared to someone who's sure of themselves (but that's just a personal opinion)

The was also a lovely selection of tertiary characters on the sidelines. My favourite being the Fletcher twins, they were hilarious, charming and I was surprisingly invested in their bickering because I never knew what they were going to say next which definitely helped create a funny atmosphere.

Ooh also props to the romance, it was very cute and mostly not what I expected because I'm not sorry to admit but I almost expected it to be based on a lie but it wasn't, it was quite ethical and genuine so that's most certainly appreciated.

One of the best things about this book is the writing, which was very atmospheric. I felt like I was at the beach with Waverly and her friends, soaking the sun and getting sunburned, could smell the salt air and the sunscreen and feel the uncomfortable sensation of sand in my shoes and also feel the love our little friend group had developed within weeks of getting to know each other. It very well felt like I was right there with Waverly experiencing the hot, humid weather for the first time. (but maybe that's more of an internal longing for summer, considering it's four degrees out at the time of writing this review lol)

The only hitch, however,  I had with this book, which led to me taking a few points off was the lack of clarity regarding some scenes and also I desperately wished for an epilogue because that ending wasn't really satisfying but regardless the overall plot was cute and I'd definitely recommend it.
