Title: High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners: Quick and Easy Recipes for Everyday Meals
Authors: Maya A. Howard, Ariel Warren

This cookbook is a guide to transition to or to supply recipes for those using a plant-based diet optimizing protein. You are given four weekly shopping lists followed by that week’s recipes. Each recipe give you nutritional information as well as the protein content.

This cookbook inspired me with the knowledge that I could get all the required protein needed. I found the book to be easy to follow and inspirational in the sense that it wouldn’t be so daunting to make the transition for myself or to cook for someone else. There were even notes about what you may have to order online since you might not find it in your store. This information was helpful so I wouldn’t go shopping before I had those harder to get items. The pictures were colorful and appetizing.

Overall, the cookbook was well organized for ease and made this type of diet achievable without worrying about nutrition.

Thank you @NetGalley and the publisher @Zeitgeist for the book and the opportunity to give an honest review.

Vegetarians, especially vegans, are constantly asked, “Where do you get your protein?” This book can help answer that question and provide a whole lot of protein-rich, whole-food, plant-based recipes. I haven’t tried any of the recipes yet, but many of them sound delicious. I really appreciated the plentiful breakfast recipe section, as I’m always looking for new vegan breakfast ideas. I’m also eager to try the loaded nacho fries!

I learned so much from this book. For example, I had no idea apricots, raisins, and cocoa powder contained so much protein.

I obtained this book for free via NetGalley, but I would definitely purchase a copy to add to my vegetarian cookbook collection.

This is made for the beginner and is very informative on how to start, although at today's food prices, I don't think I'll be donating or throwing things out to begin this. Some of the recipes look pretty tasty, and the recipes are vegan.. T I wish there were more pictures!

This book was around 3.5 stars for me. I liked the concept and there's a lot of information, but I wish there were pictures with each recipe since that's something I like. There's a few photos throughout the book, but not many. The book includes grocery lists for each week, a weekly meal plan, and recipes. There's also information on getting protein through plant-based foods and helpful information on getting protein without meat.

Great resource for going plant based as a beginner.

I am a beginner, so when it comes to getting high protein without eating meat. I would like to start with meals that do not include meat and slowly go to more and more plant based protein. But I did not know where to start. So this book was definitely for me.

I like the way the book is organized and has a table of contents. I just wish that the page numbers for each new section was shared in the table of contents. The first chapter is the beginners guide which is perfect.. The photos in the book are really colorful and well done. I loved the four week meal plan that is different for each week. There is a shopping list for each week and a prep plan for each week. Wow this book makes it really easy to start. The prep plan takes you thru before the week starts and then tells you about prep that will be needed for each day.

The recipes are well laid out and tell you what you will need and how long it will take to make. The recipes are in chapters - breakfast, smoothies, soups, main meals and snacks and desserts. The last chapter is sauces, spreads and salad dressing. At the very end of the book is a list of movies to watch and blogs that contain information about going plant based. There is information on making the recipes gluten free and nut free also.

This book has some amazing recipes but I don't know if I can get all those ingredients in my country.

Easy to follow recipes that sound interesting. I have yet to make any, but there are some that I want to try. I would have enjoyed some more pictures because I always like seeing what my food should look like when I make it.

I really love the way this cookbook centers protein; however, I don't feel all of the ingredients are super accessible, which is what I imagined with "beginners" in the title. Several recipes are very intriguing and seem worth making.

This is my go-to book for changing my current diet. I've been looking for information on high-protein diet that i can follow and this was perfect. The book was easy to follow and will be a staple for me this year.

Thank you for the ARC.

Just the sort of book I was looking for at this moment.

Some good information and recipes for a plant-based diet. But not enough pictures of the dishes (something all American cookbooks seem to suffer from). There should be one for each dish, to help decide which recipes to make.

Also it would have been nice if there had been some tips on what to do with an avocado (and other fresh ingredients) if only a quarter is used for a recipe. How to store it? When will the rest of it be needed for another recipe?

There's a recipe index and an ingredient index, love that. Although in the latter it would have been helpful if the ingredients had stood out (by formatting) from the recipes.

Maya A. Howard, wellness writer, plant-based recipe developer, digital content creator, and founder of online empowerment site, “Maya’s Healthy Day,” is a full-time dietetics student pursuing a career as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. Her motivational instructional handbook, “High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners” offers reasons for pursuing a non-animal based vegetarian lifestyle, along with enticing recipes for every meal and snack option; a four-week daily suggested meal plan; and an extensive resource guide for further nutritional advice and recommendations for a plant-based eating lifestyle. One of my favorite recipes that Maya created is a loaded guacamole with blackened kernel corn and black beans—plus the other typical ingredients of fresh lime juice, tomatoes, onions and jalapeño. Yummy!

There are so many medical reasons to adjust your diet these days that it's almost a crime not to at least try a plant based diet. This book has given me so many great recipes to assist in my quest to get my husbands blood pressure and chlorestrol within guidelines. A great book for any age, any generation.

I think this is a great book for people who are truly serious about a plant -based diet or lifestyle.
The author does an excellent job at providing readers with a history of plant-based diets and also a 4 week plan to begin their journey. I found the plan a little too restrictive ,this is definitely for the serious only .

I did try some of the recipes and they were delicious and easy to make .

I have been looking to go more "plant-based" for sustainability and health reasons. I found some info really interesting and useful, such as being able to work out how much protein both me and my partner should be consuming but none of the recipes stood out to me, probably not helped by my allergies, intolerance's and general fussiness - this recipe book would not help me change my diet and lifestyle as required. That being said, this is just my opinion, for someone who is able to eat more freely, this recipe book would be great for keeping an eye on your protein intake and getting some more greens into your diet.

My husband and I have been looking for a great plant-based diet to change our ways in eating. When I first learned about this book, I was extremely excited but the more I dug into the book, I realized that I personally would have a hard time sticking to this diet and lifestyle change. I have a lot of food allergies but my husband does not and fell in love with the recipes in this book. Now that he can change his eating habits, I'm excited to see how he does with some of the recipes.

Synopsis (From Netgalley, the provider of the book to review)
*******************************************************
An essential guide to optimal whole-food, plant-based protein sources, prep and cooking tips, and a 4-week meal plan for a manageable transition.

Embarking on their journey, people who are beginners to plant-based eating often find themselves asking, "But where will I get my protein from now?" The simple answer is: from plants! Plants are optimal protein sources, and yes, it is entirely possible to get your daily protein requirements exclusively from plants.

In High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners, wellness leader and coach Maya A. Howard offers an invaluable guide that breaks down which plants have the highest protein content, shows you how to combine ingredients for complete protein meals, and features delicious everyday recipes that use a variety of high-protein whole-food plants, like vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and even fruit!

High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners features:

• A beginner's guide to plant protein, including a handy chart showing the highest-protein plant foods and a short tutorial on how to pair ingredients for a complete protein meal.

• Quick and easy recipes featuring high-protein options for every meal of the day (even snacks and desserts!), like Banana Oatmeal Bake, Sweet Potato Chia Pancakes, Chickpea Tortilla Soup, Kale Pesto Zucchini Linguini, Pineapple Fried Rice, Watermelon Poke Bowl, and Black Bean Fudge Brownies.

• An easy-to-follow 4-week meal plan, complete with helpful grocery lists and step-by-step prepping instructions that takes the guesswork out of your first four weeks.

I highly approve of this book as it is WHOLE FOOD --- not boxes of fake ch’ck'n from the grocery store that have 100+ ingredients vs. one real ingredient and the high protein that is missing in so many vegan diets is not a problem with these recipes. There are even recipes in here that I could feed hubby and that he would eat .. not that I would necessarily share that they were vegan! 😊 The best brownies I have ever had in my life were vegan (thanks, Jenny!) so I cannot wait to try this Black Bean Fudge Brownies recipe and compare them…. how different could they be in reality as there are only so many ways one can make vegan black bean brownies? (I will update this review when I actually do make them … it is Calcutta hot and humid outside so no baking will be done for quite a while!)

A great, healthy way to eat vegan: and animal products can easily be added in for picky eaters and to avoid making 6 different meals as my SIL did as she would ask her kids WHAT THEY WANTED FOR DINNER!?!?!?!? (no wonder they are entitled millennials who expect the world given to them on a plate!)
