I definitely loved the story! I thought this was a standalone, but no. There is a book two and a cliffhanger on book one.

Regardless, I loved the writers style. The only dislike I have is that the main character hasn’t shown many main character traits… yet. I’m holding out hope because I have a feeling she’s going to be amazing. The biggest reprieve for this first book is that the supporting characters are awesome. I especially love Bertram ❤️

I will read book two because I need to know what happens.

Okay I really enjoyed this one!! I don’t know why but I was under the impression that it was a standalone novel so I was really stressed in the last 1/3rd of the book and how everything will wrap up.

I really, really loved the writing style. It didn’t at all feel like it was a debut novel so kudos to the author for that. I could imagine everything so vividly and in detail and often found myself so immersed in reading that I forgot about everything else.

The side characters were also very interesting! Without spoilers, loved the fact that most of them offered something or the other to the plot.

I was disappointed by the romance aspect of the story though. But I’m hopeful there will be more in book 2.

Although this is considered a YA book, I loved it! The characters were real and the plot was believable even though it was fantastical. I was immediately drawn into the story and the characters' lives. This is a book that I will definitely recommend to my middle school students. I'm anxiously awaiting the second book in this series.

This was my first book by Denise Daye. I loved the concept of witches and vampires. At first, I felt like the story was moving a little slow but once the story started to develop it took off for me and read quickly. I would have loved the romance between Lucious and Josephine but I think it might ramp up in book 2. There was definitely heat and connection with a hint of a past Josephine could not remember. I also love when different paranormal species work together like Lucious and Luna (vampires) and Josephine (witch) with Fabien (human) for a common good. There were fights and fleeing followed by adventure. Fantasy is becoming my favorite new genre. I will definitely be continuing this story when book 2 Shadows of the Sword comes out. For anyone who enjoys paranormal and fantasy, I would highly recommend this as a read. It reads fast and has some lore backstory of the vampires and the witches. I truly enjoyed this one.

Magic mixed with vampires and a war that no one saw coming. When I started this book, I thought it was going to be about Josefine finding her magic through her grandmother and finding who she is by going on an adventure with Frank. That turned on its head once her grandmother was killed. I loved how a group of mismatched people came together for the same goal of defeating the First Vampire. I want to read the second book so badly. It ended on a cliffhanger and I just want to know what happens. Does Josefine have magic? Is she more powerful than everyone thinks? Will she fall in love? I just want to know!

Whenever I see a witchy book, I need to read it. And thankfully, this one did not disappoint. I was hooked from the start and would always be thinking about it when I wasn´t reading it. The plot was great, the characters were well-developed and the relationships were nice to read about. The magic aspect was also really cool. My only complaint is that I feel like the ending could´ve been stronger, but i still enjoyed it. Recommending it to all my fellow witchy things lovers out there!

Josefine is a tale involving witches, vampires, and ancient creatures that test your imagination. What more could I ask for?

It did not disappoint my friends! It is a very easy book to flip the pages and the story builds really well and is hard to put down. What i liked best was the action spread throughout the whole story and the fact that it wasn’t just about magic but war, paranormal creatures and old gods. I think this a was a great book!

The ending was satisfying but there are a lot of unanswered questions that I'm hoping gets revealed in the next book!

Dormant witch...

It must have been agonizing to hear these words since childhood, especially since your grandmother was one of the last true masters of witchcraft.

Josefine had to face this every day, but her grandmother would always tell her that her powers might come out soon. She was losing hope now that the most important person in her life was killed, and she could not go back to her home because she was being hunted.

Worse of all, Josefine makes an ally with the witches' greatest enemy, a vampire. Her heart skips a beat for Lucius, a mysterious pureblood who is more than meets the eye. Together with Luna, a dark witch, and Fabiean, a human, they are all set to go to the Order, fight the First Vampire, and hopefully find the First Witch.

I really thought that I wouldn't like the story, but it was written well, though there were some parts that were a bit confusing. Still, I am excited for book 2!

Thank you to Timeless Papers and Netgalley for the ARC!

Josefine neither blew me away or kept me bored and and ready to give up on it. I think its difficult in this day to write and original witch/vampire book and though I felt some similarities to other books of the same genre, there was enough originality to keep me going. The end was quite a cliffhanger and I will probably read the second book when it comes out.

I really enjoyed this one!! I actually thought it was a standalone, so much to my surprise there’s a hell of a cliffhanger. Ugh, I don’t want to wait for book two!!!!! I want it now!!!!

Josefine is a great main character because we don’t focus on her talents or her beauty and romance. Instead we’re totally focused on her lack on magic and no romance is to be had whatsoever. Which is totally fine. This stands perfectly fine without some lovin added in. Which for me is rare. I just love… well, love!!!

I also adore the other characters, even the ones that don’t make it to the end. Sorry for the mild spoiler, but not everyone makes it!! That was a bit of a blow, but oh the emotions!!!! I loved feeling so much while reading this book!! It was so well written that I was totally immersed in the story. It probably helps that I really enjoy books about witches and this one is no different. I just like the idea that Josefine is a dormant witch and it’s such a huge part of the tale.

I highly recommend this to YA lovers who like books about magic and witches. There was lots of drama and action to keep this story oh so very interesting. The characters draw you in and keep you in the thick of it the whole way!!

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Timeless Papers, and Denise Daye for the opportunity to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how dark it was. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. If you love a good witch story, I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.

Thank you both Author and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this.

Witches. They captivate me in so many ways, and it's always a gamble on how well their story will be told. More often than not they are made out to be the ugly, villainous women who haunt our nightmares. However, this story was far from that. I was sucked into it and openly wished that I had a grandmother similar to Josefine. We follow her as she uncovers the truth of their family's history, why she doesn't possess the same magical capabilities that generations before her did, and why her family is now a target for vampires and other paranormal creatures.

I really enjoyed this book, and I find myself impatiently waiting for it to be on a shelf at my local bookstore so that I am able to add it to my library.

I was left with so many questions when this book ended on its cliffhanger!!!! Not cool!!!! A lot of questions!!!!! I felt that some could have been answered, and the story still could continue. I will be looking for the sequel to have my questions answered- and I sure hope they do. I felt like Lucius was a very aloof character, and obviously is a key player. Josephine has no idea about anything….

So many questions.

Josefine is a tale involving witches, vampires, and ancient creatures that test your imagination. The side characters in the story add intrigue to the story, as they all traverse to figure out what happened to Josefine's grandmother. It is a very easy book to flip the pages and get a fun take on the vampires versus witches idea. I think this series has a lot of potential, it just did not quite hit the mark for me.

I feel like many things happened in the book, but it did not go anywhere. It had the potential to go much deeper than it did, but it just seemed like Josefine was following side characters through the woods for the majority of the novel. I enjoyed the writing immensely and could not stop turning the pages, but I kept expecting more action to occur. I also was very interested in the romance with Lucius, but all it amounted to was stolen glances and adversities to touch. I understand wanting to have a slow-burn romance, but I just wanted a little more out of it. Another thing (I don't know if this is my fault or not) is that I did not get a great idea of the setting. Sometimes I pictured it as being in a magical olden land, but then they would casually mention a Mercedes or limousines. I was just very confused during the book.

This book is very interesting. It really pulled me in. It has fantasy, mythical, and even romantic aspects. Josefine believes she is a regular human that was raised by a very powerful witch. Her grandmother, who raised her, dies. She is swept away immediately to an unfamiliar area with new people. She meets Lucius. Lucius is not only as handsome as the devil, but he’s also as mysterious as the night is dark.

There is a catastrophic secret surrounding her grandmother’s death that will place Josefine in the very center of a war that could kill her once and for all, along with every soul on earth. It's intense and so action packed. The world building and character development in this book was amazing. I'm excited for the next one. I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend!

Is this Witches Vs. Vampires? Or something more?

Josefine is a dormant witch coming from a prestigious line of witches. She lives with her grandma who is witchcraft master in her herbal store in German town and is happy. In a blink of an eye her life turns upside down when a merciless vampire killed her grandma and now is on her for reasons unknown.

She is on run for her life with a friend who isn't who he is. There are so many unanswered questions around her and no one to help her out with them. I liked her, she was brave inspite of no magic.

Lucius has a dark mysterious aura to him. He is confident, charming, handsome vampire who doesn't care for Josefine. Or does he? I need book 2 to know more.

The world building and detailing is incredible and gives an amazing picture to look at. I liked the writing style and the characters in this one. Bertram is awesome! This book has secrets and so many unanswered questions.

This was more of bringing people together in sort of found family way who have to face a war together. I have my own theories as the author has kept me thinking with all the mysterious turn of events and clues here and there. It feels as if Josefine has some ancient power waiting to be unleashed and much more to her with also a linkage to Lucius.

I can't wait to find out what happens next. Recommended!

I really enjoyed this book. I found the characters to be very three-dimensional and all of their actions came from fleshed out motivations. I really enjoyed the plot of this book as well, definitely kept me on the dge of my seat the whole time!
