Badger wakes up in a very, very bad mood. But…he decides to go out any way. Badger shares this mood by being a bit mean and rude to his friends. Later, when he feels better, he makes amends. That is the gist of this children’s story that has sweet illustrations.

I like that Badger sees that his mood changes over the course of the day. This is a helpful message for a grumpy kid. What I liked less was that there was no initial understanding or acknowledgment for how he felt given to Badger. The focus was more on his rudeness. However, I think kids should be applauded for being able to identify their emotions and helped to cope with them.

Maybe this is too much criticism for a kid’s book but I think that the adult who reads this with a child should spend a few extra minutes talking about moods and how to cope with them.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Waking up in a bad mood sets the stage for others to be in a bad mood too. Badger greets his animal friends with his mood and wonders why his friends are in a bad mood when his mood changes. It is a funny look on how we can look at ourselves and how we affect with others. A great book to enjoy with your kiddos for a long time.

The Bad Mood is a wonderful story to teach young children about how their mood and the way they treat people can impact others' feelings. Badger takes his bad mood and pushes it off on all his friends by being mean to them. This is turn puts his friends in bad moods. His apology at the end makes it all worthwhile. A great book for 4K and Kindergarten teachers!

A sweet and humorous story about mood contagion, hurt feelings, and the importance of apologies and forgiveness. My five-year-old grandson enjoyed the tale and was able to easily understand the concepts. Lovely illustrations. Highly recommended for public library collections and children's story time.

Badger wakes up in a bad mood and decides that he just can't keep it to himself. The world needs to know how miserable he is, so he makes sure to grump at Raccoon, and Deer, and Fox, and Mouse, and all of his other friends, too!
Later, when his bad mood has slipped away, he attempts to find his friends to play but they are all in bad moods!
Will Badger see how his bad mood spread to his friends? And can he make amends?

This is a super cute picture book about a big emotion that is easily passed on to others, and the consequences of that. When Badger spreads his bad mood, it affects his friendships and leaves him with no one to play with and he finally realizes the chain reaction he has created.

The Bad Mood is the perfect cautionary tale for anyone who has ever woken up on the wrong side of the bed, or might!

What a cute read! I love the art style and the simplicity of the story itself. Short but powerful. It reminds us to treat others the way we would like to be treated. Badger wakes up in a foul mood and feels the need to let others around him know about his mood, but the negative attitude only ends up spreading to Badger's friends. His anger doesn't stay long but the way he acted towards his animal friends is not forgotten as easily. What an important lesson not only for children but for all individuals in general to try to spread cheer instead of negative vibes around us, for feelings can be contagious and spreading negative attitude will only hurt others.

Many thanks to Netgalley and NorthSouth Books Inc., for an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.

This was a sweet simple story with a valuable lesson about how one’s mood can effect those they care about. The artwork was delightful and charming. The story itself was good with a lesson and a happy resolution. I would have liked to see it written with more of a lyrical flow, rhyme, some added rhythm or even just the addition of some fun sounds as that is what would turn this into a true favorite for my son. As it is this is a strong children’s book that I could happily add to my son’s library and recommend to friends based on the illustrations and positive message.

Badger woke up in a bad mood and is taking it out on all his friends. We quickly learn that bad moods are contagious! I really liked the moral of this book, that we are responsible for our own actions and treating others with respect and kindness. Understanding empathy can be difficult for young kids and this will help them grasp the concept.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

"Badger is in a terribly bad mood...a comical cautionary tale for anyone who has ever gotten up on the wrong side of the bed."

I absolutely love this book. It teaches kids about emotions and friendship and forgiveness. Amelie Jackowski's illustrations are charming, and I love the watercolor appearance of the pictures. Definitely a book I will be using in my classroom!

Some grumps can change. A delightful book about being kind to your friends. Most of us can identify with Badger and waking up on the wrong side of bed and taking it out on everyone. I love the simple, but expressive illustrations. It's easy to tell who's the grumpy one in the bunch.

I love children's books that are appropriate for younger readers, but also have a point an older sibling (or adult) might need to hear. Often, when reading to a little brother or sister while big bro or sis is in the room, a book's message will get through to everyone in earshot. That's not a bad thing.

Moritz Petz shares three important messages through his writing.

There is no obligation to share your bad mood.

It's possible to hoist yourself out of a bad mood.

It's important to apologize to friends you hurt.

The illustrations in this book are lovely. I do wish the words could be spread out on the page, perhaps a sentence at the top and a sentence at the bottom.

Thank you to NetGalley, NorthSouth Books, and Moritz Petz for an ARC of this book.

An incredibly sweet book and gives an important lesson about not putting everyone around you in a bad mood when you’re in one. It also gives the remedy for his bad mood, doing something which he enjoys! This perhaps can be expanded and highlight that doing something you enjoy is really important as well as making it up to people when you’ve done something wrong.
A definite book for school libraries and people who work with kids who perhaps don’t have total control over the emotions sometimes.

'The Bad Mood' is a relatable story about how bad moods can spread, what you can do about them, and how you can fix it should your bad mood "infect" others. The artwork is stunning - kids will love the angry-eyed cuddly forest creatures!

If I had one note that would really take the book from good to great, it would be the font. It was pretty small and it would be more engaging if it were a bit more artistic to flow with the story.

This is a wonderful child’s book that illustrates how a bad mood affects everyone it touches. The illustrations are colorful and delightful. My granddaughter loved it and so did I.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books, Inc. for a copy of "The Bad Mood" in exchange for my honest review.

This book is aimed at preschool to grade 3 - a great book to read to children or have them read once they are able to. The badger is a cute character but he wakes up in a bad mood. He makes sure everyone knows that he's in a bad mood and he's rude to everyone. After working in his garden he's in a better mood and goes looking for others to play with but there is no one around. The animals let him know that they are not happy with how he treated them.

A lesson from this book is that it is never okay to take your bad mood out on others. It's important to apologize and to forgive. A bad mood can be contagious. Grumpy or rude remarks makes everyone have a bad mood.

This book is a great tool for parents and educators to start a conversation about how to treat others.

A huge thanks to the publisher for my e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book tells the story of Badger who wakes up one morning grumpy and unwillingly steps out of his house in his bad mood that he spreads to everyone around him. Oblivious to the spread of the ‘grumpiness’ he goes on with his daily activities only to snap out of it and realise that he had spread his ‘bad mood’. Oh mayn , this book lived true to the title. I enjoyed this delightful book and highly recommend it

The illustrations in the book were beautiful. It's a great story about the consequences of sharing your bad mood with everyone around you. I enjoyed the story and how Badger turned things around in the end. I can't wait to share this with my kids!

This book shares an important message about how your actions can affect others. It follows badger, who is in a bad mood and wants all of his friends to know it. He treats his friends poorly, and his friends-in turn- become grumpy. Badger wonders why his friends are mad later in the day once his mood has improved. He realizes it was all his fault and apologizes.

The first page of the story is instantly relatable--probably to both kids and adults--as Badger wakes up in a bad mood but, instead of staying home or doing something to make himself feel better, goes out into the world and conveys his bad mood to everyone around him.
I had to laugh at Badger's internal dialogue while he's having breakfast and deciding whether to stay in or go out: "What is the point of being in a bad mood if nobody notices?"

Unsurprisingly, the bad mood spreads, and no one much wants to be around Badger after that. It's up to him to make things better. This is a well-illustrated children's book with a simple but strong message about the way our feelings can impact others and how to be a considerate friend even on a bad day.
