I think at first glance, this might just look like a typical smut book based on its cover, but when I tell you it is so much more. These characters and this story are emotional, they are riveting and up until the very last page I found myself rooting for them. These characters did not feel a second of peace and I think that just added to the drama and suspense of it all. I really liked the fact that this was a dual pov, and I think it added a level of believability to the romance as a whole. I really enjoyed.

While I enjoyed the intrigue part of this book, I had difficulty connecting with the MCs. I thought the story started rather abruptly, as if this was part of a series that I hadn’t read. The introduction of the characters felt incomplete. While we are introduced to Trent as a former love interest to Maggie as well as being Maggie’s brother’s best friend and fellow soldier, I got the impression Trent was still a soldier but on leave. In the middle of chapter 2, he was suddenly the town sheriff. Even Maggie’s character seemed incomplete to me. She was a teacher but she left after the death of her brother. But why did she make that decision? That wasn’t explained until much later in the story. There is some steam between Trent and Maggie, but I skimmed through those scenes (much to my own surprise) since I wasn’t invested in the characters.

This suspenseful romance had me on the edge of my seat from the first page. After some unnerving and frightening moments occur to her she flees her home and seeks out the only person she knows to reach out to which is Trent. Her late brothers partner in the force and best friend.

They lost touch for ten months after Maggie's brother was killed on the field, and while that piece of the story initially makes things a little strained for a moment it doesn't last long until they settle into a familiar routine together while he gives her a place to stay with him. Offering nit only his friendship again but also his protection from what is frightening her which is that she believes she is being targeted because she was Dalton's sister.

I loved seeing the friendship between Trent and Maggie form into something so much more. It was riveting to read the angst between them.

I never knew what to expect within this story, and it kept me snared and entranced through every chapter. I couldn't get enough of it. Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this novel.

Romantic suspense with a lot going on. Lots of action and well-developed characters. This is the first book I've read by Bailey Thomas, but I will look for more, and certainly the rest of this series.

Trent is a retired FBI agent who is approached by Maggie, the sister of his dead friend. She is being stalked and needs help, sparks fly andei did enjoy the relationship. Felt a bit though like I was missing something. Perhaps this is book 2? Overall though, did not like the kidnapping, but may just be me. Seems to be more common as a plot now. Would recommend.

So this book had it all. Romance and mystery. This is the story of Maggie and Trent. After a death, Maggie not only lost a sibling, but Trent as well. After feeling like someone is watching her, she goes to see Trent for help after many months. After many twists and turns they both are trying to find out who killed her brother Dalton and along the way they become closer and closer.

Full of suspense, action until the very end.
Maggie lost only family when her FBI brother was killed during his mission. She had no one to turn to when someone entered apartment, except her brother's partner Trent. Her brother told her to look seek Trent when she needed help. She left everything in a hurry and went to Trent in Mill Creek, Idaho.
Trent left FBI after losing his partner and settled down in small town Mill Creek in Idaho and work as sheriff in town. When suddenly, Maggie showed up at his house, he knew there was something wrong. Trent felt survivors guilt ever since losing his best friend/partner. Now he will need to protect her and it might clear his name and his partners.
Trent and Maggie are attracted to each other but her brother's death is getting in the way. They will need to work together to keep her safe and heal each other 's wound.
It is definitely a page turner. Story keeps on your toes until the very end. Don't be fooled by the cover, it was SO MUCH more.
This was a great suspense romance book and I would recommend it.

3 Stars! I did enjoy this book but I felt like I missed a book before this one but this is the first book in the series.(maybe adding a prologue would help?) At times, the book confused me a bit and had too many names of secondary characters, and scenes with secondary characters, that turned out to have nothing to do with the main characters story. Maggie and Trent had a lot of typical cheesy romance scenes, such as sitting in front of a fire, eating strawberries and whipped cream or Trent getting caught in the rain and taking his shirt off while she got a towel? Considering this book is about the female character running to the male main character for help because she’s in danger, it was just too many clichés for me. However, it was still a cute story and I’d like to read any future books!

A romantic suspense I couldn't put down!
I was hooked from the first few pages! Maggie is dealing with a deep loss when she finds herself at the center of some serious and dangerous drama. She goes to the one person she trusts in her life, even though they have a history. Trent has sworn to always protect Maggie at all costs. So when she comes knocking on his door, he's surprised to see her but takes her in without a second thought. As Maggie details what's happening in her life, Trent takes her under his wing and ensures she's safe.
When things take a turn for the worst, both Trent and Maggie are left reeling with the drama in their lives but they also have to face the growing feelings they have for each other and determine if it's real or if it's the stress of their situation that makes them turn to each other.
This was the first book I've read by this author and I loved it, this will not be the last!

I only read one chapter before deciding I wasn't really feeling this book. I felt the storyline got off to a chaotic start. instead of easing in with the appropriate amount of backstory. I felt like a prologue would have been helpful to lay the groundwork. Instead, everything was introduced, in what I thought, was a haphazard way. I also didn't like the way the characters spoke. When there was conversation, or even internal thoughts, I thought, "who actually says these words in real life." I may have jumped the gun and given up on what could have been a really good book, but I guess I will never know.

"Trent's Redemption" by Bailey Thomas

My Opinion:

'Trent's Redemption' was an excellent, intriguing read featuring Margaret [Maggie] and Trent. Those two had been through quite a bit from the death of Maggie's brother Dalton and Trent's FBI partner and friend. After many months we find that Maggie is reaching out to Trent because someone is shadowing her and has broken into her home. Does this have anything to do with her brother's last case, and do they think that Maggie has some information? As the story moves on, Maggie leaves her home in Dallas and goes to Mill Creek, where Trent is a sheriff, for help in this situation. Will these two be able to feature out what is going on? What will happen as they try to solve this with Trent's FBI colleagues just who killed Dalton? Will Maggie and Trent be able to ignore the attraction between them as they pursue another chance at love after all is said and done?

Be ready for a good read with some mystery, crime, and romance. The well-developed characters, twists, and turns will not only keep one's interest but will keep the reader turning the pages to see what is coming next.

Thank you to NetGallery and Champagne Book Group for reading your book and me providing my honest opinion of the book.

I am so glad that this book is listed as #1 of Mill Creek Mystique as I am already looking forward to book #2. Trent Jacobs resigned from the FBI after Dalton, his good friend and partner, was murdered. Hired as the sheriff in Mill Creek has allowed him to help people and given him time to heal from being shot. Dalton’s sister Margaret “Maggie” King arrives in Mill Creek when she realizes that someone has been watching her and had broken into her home. Does someone believe that Maggie has information about her brother’s last case? An exciting romantic suspense story that flowed smoothly as Maggie and Trent worked with his former FBI colleagues to find out who killed her brother. Although deeply attracted to Maggie, and she to him, he knew she was off limits as Dalton’s sister. Now, will she be able to convince him that they need to pursue their chance at love? I enjoyed the various “small town” Mill Creek characters, especially Clark (he has to have his own story). I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This book was okay. I don't think I would read it again, but I would definitely recommend it to a friend. There wasn't enough drama or issues between the main characters, Trent and Maggie for my liking but that's on me not the author. I like a character to work a little more for their happy ending. But I'd give it a high 3.5 rounded to 4⭐.

Trent and Maggie had a lot to work through. From his partner/friend’s death, who happened to be Maggie’s brother and best friend, to Trent icing Maggie out, to Maggie reappearing in his life, to their inability to ignore their attraction and the possibility of love, this was quite the ride. Maggie just had to stay alive long enough to determine if she and Trent really had a future together.

This had quite a few twists, characters who appeared shady but weren’t and vice versa, and a bit of a surprise in the end. I really liked the lack of drama just for drama’s sake while still giving the suspense and danger that Trent and Maggie’s story required to hit all marks. Overall, this was a very good read and left me hoping for more. Maybe Aimee and Clarke have a story to tell next?
