The premise of this story is so cute and fluffy! This is really an age-is-just-a-number and life-begins-anytime kind of story.

Fifty year old Jen is quite content with her life. She has been working with Budgie air for almost thirty years and is very happy in her job until…she got made redundant due to budget cuts! Jen was at a lost of what to do and decides she must start looking for a new job again but who would hire her? In the middle of it all, her friends pressured her into dating again and so she created a profile on an online dating site. And so her dating adventure begins! Hello awkward conversations and weird men but Jen’s curiosity for life helped her have a more positive and daring outlook on life.

I love Jen’s personality and how she throws herself into trying new things despite her fear. It must be so daunting to lose a job that you’ve know forever and just thinking of starting afresh is giving me goosebumps but I thought that Jen handled her situation very well.

Jen’s dating experiences were quite hilarious to read as she navigates through the dating website and trying to strike up conversations with men. I also find it refreshing to see a main character who is fifty and single going through life’s ups and downs!

Although the story felt repetitive at times, this is still a feel-good and light read! Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books for the arc.

This was my first Fiona Gibson, and probably not my last. I happened to come across her latest and thought, why not? I had, after all, been thinking to read something of hers for quite some time now. And a good portion of it was breezy - downright hilarious. Gibson, I sense, has a talent for bringing into sharp contrast the comical aspects of life. The storyline was fresh, and I did like many of the characters, especially the hyperbolic ones that made me laugh out loud. I personally struggled with connecting. The online dating business is pretty alien to me and I probably would have preferred that it did not occupy center stage. However, the dating itself is rendered particularly hilarious, also because Jen approaches it with the irony of one who is not entirely sure that this is how things ought to work. I particularly loved the way that her relationship with Rod, longtime best friend and Hannah's father, is portrayed in this book, and how it is left to develop and simmer in the background. Brownie points for the unpredictable ending. I appreciate it when feel-good writing invests in a concept of life that is more in tune with the nuances of events and the strange turnings of the human heart.

Full of hilarious encounters for a woman experimenting with the contemporary dating world. Relatable characters, humour, and witty dialogue make this a fun escapist read, perfect Summer reading.

Really enjoyable look into a more mature woman’s foray into online dating. Great characters and skills woven storylines relating to the main character. Laugh out loud funny at times. A heart warming story of middle age. Easy to follow and not as predictable as you might imagine.

This just wasn’t for me. I did not finish. The subject matter wasn’t interesting so I struggled to want to read it.

The main character is Jen, a woman in her 50s who just got made redundant from her fligh attendant job. She has a daughter Hannah, who works in London. Jen lives on her own. Hannah convinces her to try online dating. There are some disastrous dates and some not so bad ones. This book is an easy read and shows that you are never too old to date.

I love having a book that makes me laugh out loud and I always do with Fiona Gibson's novels! Online dating with all its pitfalls, especially when you're over 50. Is it worth the bother? Can you find love and romance again?

Jen is a fifty year old flight attendant from Glasgow when she is made redundant as the airline goes bankrupt. With a grown daughter out of the house, Fiona begins a job search as well as a foray into online dating. Recounting the many dates, Jen begins to realize what she wants out of life and who she wants to be. The part of the book that gave it some depth was Jen’s dealing with her mother’s onset of dementia. A pleasant read.

This was a quick read that was very enjoyable. Jen was a great character that was very independent that knows what she wants out of life.
There are a few funny, disaster stories of some of the dates Jen went on.
But I think this book was more about discovering yourself at any age and starting over after life gives you a crappy Hand.

The author has taken a set of contemporary situations - redundancy after a long time in the same job, online dating sites and being without a 'special someone' at the age of 50 - and woven an interesting, realistic tale scattered with loads of laugh-out-loud moments balanced with some more emotional 'down' moments, just like life. I loved the character of Jen as she brings us stories of her life as a cabin crew member, meets the weirdest men in her dates and faces up to the deteriorating health of her mum. This novel is an excellent beach read; Fiona writes a BudgieAir maxim is 'Smiles cost nothing so we give them for tree's and she certainly gave me loads of smiles through this contemporary fiction!

I expected a quick enjoyable and funny read when I requested this book. However I couldn't connect with the main character at all. I found it interesting how she was struggling to get her life back on track in her fifties, but other than that, I just wasn't interested in all the details of her story.

I thought the plot would be more focused on online dating and on finding the perfect match but the details of the dates the MC went on felt rushed. There were other parts of her life which were more in focus and those made the book feel more like a contemporary/women fiction instead of a romance.

The ending wasn't at all satisfying for me and, overall, it didn't feel worth spending my time reading this book. I'm sorry to be so harsh, but I think honesty is the best policy. 😬

This was my first read by this author so I don't know how her other books are. If you love her books or if you find the synopsis interesting, please give it a go despite my review because we all connect to the different stories and different characters. This one was just not for me.

Net Galley ARC – I was drawn to this from the Blurb. Jen a 50 year old flight attendant who has just been made redundant, hilarious calls to a redundancy hotline. Dipping her toes into the world of internet dating after her daughter has flown the nest, her mother is dealing with dementia and her ex has his own life. And she wanted to find someone to take on a holiday she’s won from work.

This had so much potential, but it fell a little flat for me, the dating situations could have been funny but they were more cringe and I started skim reading them.

The best part for me was the tale of a missing Cat Mr Sox.

Most of the way through I thought why is she doing this, why doesn’t she do something else and how has she still got this holiday if the company has gone bust!

i love that it tackles adult and "adulting" problems alongside with the modern society/time we are living.

it also talks about motherhood and family which is lovely.

it's a fun read.

This was a fun read. I enjoyed it.
This was a first book that I read from this author, and was more tahna okay.
