On a Night Like This is a wonderful weekend escape. It features Fran, a woman seeking a better PA job than the ones she's most recently had, her new job, and someone she meets on a wild night. The initial thing that drew me to the novel was that it was set in Britain. I'm a sucker for a good British romance. The synopsis also made it sound like there would be laughs and who doesn't need that right now?! After reading, I can vouch for the romance and the comedy--and the Cinderella-like aspects, as well.



I really enjoyed how down to earth Fran was; she's very self-aware, confident in her job, and truly funny. The things she manages to get herself into made me smile, unless of course you're talking about her boyfriend who made me slightly insane...or maybe it was Fran who made me slightly insane, for putting up with his foolishness. But, thankfully, her new temp job, Juliette, helped enlighten Fran to some things, which also helped ease the way to a night of swooniness with Evan.



On a Night Like This is a fun read from a new to me author and I think you'll enjoy the sweet, funny, romance...it's perfect for a night like this. :)

Once upon a time, there was a woman named Fran who was in a rut. Her life was stuck and her relationship with Stew has been stuck for year's. She was at a standstill and didn't know what to do. Until day she made a phone call that changes her life.

On a night like this was a light hearted fun read with a a nod to Cinderella. Fran takes a temp job for a singer named Juliette, and when she gets left behind in Italy, she ends up with the chance to attend the crystal ball where the riches and famous rub elbows and play. If you've ever watched Cinderella you will easily be able to guess what happens next. Fran meets a man at "the ball", Who she spends the evening with and learning it's ok to want what you want and not please everyone else.

All in all a great story that will leave you with all the happily ever after feelings you enjoyed as a child.

Fran Cooper's life is in a rut. Her career is at a standstill and she can't help but wonder if her fiancé still has feelings for his ex. Something's got to give soon. When a job opportunity comes her way she decides to jump at the chance to accept even if Stew would be angry about her leaving for London for a few days. Only when she arrives on the first day does she learn that not only is the job for a top secret celebrity but it isn't even in England. Fran gets whisked away under the strictest NDA to be at the beck and call of singer Juliet and to ensure that she shows up to her performance at the most elite party of the year on time. Really, how hard can it be? I can't begin to express how much I love Lindsey Kelk. Her books are instant feel-goods that I often read in a day because of her humor and great female characters. Having followed Kelk on social media for a while now I could hear her personality shining through in this one. "On a Night Like This" is a modern day fairytale that you won't want to put down. This book has a bit of a slow start..but once I was about 1/3 of the way in, I was hooked. I absolutely loved the magical whimsicalness of Lindsey Kelk's writing here. The romantic plotline was much more of a subplot; the main arc we see in this book is the main character, Fran's, journey of finding her own identity and following whatever she wants to do. I also loved the growth of Fran and Juliette's friendship.
On a Night Like This is a great read for any of those who loved 'The Secret Bridesmaid' by Katy Birchall!

Gotta love a Cinderella retelling!

Francesca is a temp who gets a super glamorous job and the chance to attend the Crystal Ball. You feel for her because she is in kind of a rut in her personal life and doesn't really know what she deserves.

This was just a sweet story about Fran figuring out everything. There were some awesome side characters including Juliette (sometimes) and Jess.

Evan was pretty much too good to be true and was a great Prince Charming. I was worried that Fran would cheat with him and I wasn't sure I could support that, but they never crossed the line. And their still were some plot twists that were fun.

The ending really made this a five star book!

I LOVED Fran's story! It was a seriously fun Cinderella retelling! The plotline flowed perfectly, and the MC stole my heart!

I ended up really liking this one. At first I wasn’t sure because it took so long to introduce Evan but in the end it all came together. There were several lol moments for me. British humor is just the best. And any book that can make me laugh out loud gets automatic points. Fran was a little annoying at times and Juliette was a bit extreme but I liked their friendship. I also thought the Andrew plot line was a tad cheesy but luckily it wasn’t a huge focus. Evan was dreamy and I like his character a lot. I would have loved an epilogue at the next Crystal Ball because the author hinted at it not being Fran’s one and only time attending. Kind of set it up for one but then didn’t deliver. Still a fun read!

In general, this was a really cute book. The main characters were pretty likeable, and the cinderella retelling aspect was also well done. There were a few parts that I wasn't a fan of. First, the FMC has a fiance until about 75% of the book. Personally, it's fine if the MCs are in a (failing) relationship at the start of the book, but break up before meeting the other MC or at least pretty early into the book. In this one, however, the FMC was engaged for the majority of the book even after she had her night with the MMC (there was no cheating physically, but the romance also wasn't as drawn-out as I had hoped). I think another thing to point out about this one was that it definitely was not romance-based, which is what I had been expecting going into the book. The book was more about the FMC finding herself and the romance was a subplot, which can be fine but here I felt that it took a backseat too much.

In the end, it was a cute story, so if you're new to romance this could be great for you to get started. It just wasn't what I had been hoping for from the book.

This was a cute little rom-com that was a quick read for me. This had different layers than just a typical saccharine sweet rom-com (although it did have saccharine moments). It started out with Fran getting an interview for an assistant position for a top-secret client (a mega superstar singer named Juliette). This is where it surprised me, Fran doesn't actually arrive at the "ball" until almost halfway into the book. I was kinda waiting for it to start. I feel like a big part of the book was Fran's relationship with Juliette rather than Evan (the man at the ball). I did really like Fran's character though. She was funny and likable even with all her flaws. And I really love how there wasn't any cheating (usually characters who have obvious failing relationship tend to justify infidelity, but I like how that didn't happen with this book). Evan was overly saccharine and apparently had no flaws and really was written as a price Charming, so that was a bit eye roll for me. But the book did address some typical struggles for millennials and quarter-life crisis stuff, so I liked how those themes were addressed and tackled. Overall, it was a cute read, but not my favorite rom-com. I don't know if it was because the cover and title threw me off (once again, she didn't even go to the ball until about 50% into the story!). I love that it ended around Christmastime, so it was a perfect book to read during holiday break.

I was really interested in reading this book, the description was interesting, I love a down on her luck heroine, but half way through reading it was kind of dragging. My biggest turnoff was the political insinuations. Not really a fan of modern day people and politics incorporated into works of fiction. It makes it seem as though its pandering to a certain audience. The main character was dry and the love interest takes half of the book to appear. Unfortunately not a fresh or captivating story.

What an absolutely brilliant book - Lindsey Kelk did it again! This book feels like magic and wraps you up in a warm hug. This book is about Fran who, having a fairly sucky time at life, gets the opportunity of a lifetime. Not to give anything away, but we get to see Fran blossom from a shell of a person, into a brilliant and funny person who is kick-ass. This book really was a reality escape and I desperately wish I could be in Fran's shoes especially when she hangs out with Evan who, other than being swoon-worthy, is what every girl dreams about. The characters were brilliantly written and seeing Fran grow throughout the book gives me hope that one day, I can grow as a person too. Every single on of Lindsey Kelk's books has been about strong and wonderful women and this book is no exception. A must read for everyone and anyone!

Happily Ever After isn't always what we expect, such as the case for our heroine Fran who is engaged to a man (Stew) that she has been with for twelve years. Her life is a mess, she's stuck in a standstill with no idea where or what to do. Until one phone call changes her life and in that call she's on the way back to a life she had left behind when she followed her fiance to his tiny hometown to live in his nan's old home.

A nod to Cinderella that made for a light-hearted read. I loved Fran, her sense of humor, who she was as an individual made me wish she was real and someone I could meet at the tiny coffee shop and discuss the comings and goings of our lives. And one decision and the help of an unexpected makeup artist send Fran on the most unexpected and magical night of her life. If you've ever watched or read Cinderella you will easily be able to guess what comes next, but even still I found myself devouring the book, being unable to wait for the next interactions, the next moments with Evan. The man she meets at "the ball", the one with who she sets rules to ensure that at the end of the night all they walk away with is the happy memories they create. And after what put her there, she deserved it.

Honestly, though, I enjoyed Juliette's character, it put back into perspective that we don't always know what's going on in a persons life, especially when we are only seeing the highlight reel of social media, or the lows that the press and tabloids seem to thrive on in the media. I do wish we had gotten a little more of her, but the moments we got between her and Fran were ones that I greatly appreciate, and showed some growth in the short amount of time we are with her.

Between her and Jess part of me hopes that Lindsey continues in this world and gives those characters happy endings themselves, maybe even Sarah who honestly would scare the heck out of me as a boss. But Stew? Stew can rot and that would be just fine.

All in all a great story that will leave you with all the happy feelings and even have you laughing out loud at parts. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend it.

Lindsey Kelk writes a lovely escapist rom-com, a contemporary version of Cinderella, a light, warm and fun delight of a novel. 32 year old Francesca Cooper is engaged, she has been with boyfriend Stew for 12 years since university, leaving behind her beloved London to move with him to Sheffield when he inherited his nanna's house. Fran is a temp out of choice, she prides herself on being an efficient assistant, but in the run up to Christmas she is out of work and feeling anxious. When best friend Jess tells her to think out of the box, she gets in touch with an old contact who tells there is an assistant job that will last 5 days, a job that Fran would be perfect for, but she has to sign an NDA agreement prior to the London interview. Despite having promised Stew she would not take jobs that took her away from home, Fran jumps at the opportunity, and finds herself working for the famous celebrity singer, Juliette.

This book is sweetest cure for my anxious mind! After getting through stressful work days, I was needing something hilarious, smart, entertaining, relaxing! And guess what? Literature gods heard my crying and threw this book on my head! Okay as always I just exaggerated: I wished to read something sweet-soft-sentimental to heal my soul.

This was a really sweet story about a woman realizing she wanted and deserved more out of her life by being forced out of her comfort zone.

Fran was living a drab life outside of London with her fiancé when the opportunity to be the personal assistant for a celebrity changed her life.

Throughout the book I found myself rooting for Fran to get inspired through her encounters with Juliette. I loved watching Fran grow more and more confident in herself and I was so excited to see her blossom.

While the situation Fran finds herself in is out of the realm of possibility for most of us, her internal growth is something everyone can relate to.

Overall, this is a fun and flirty quick read that had just the right amount of adventure, romance and comedy.

Oh my, this book just outromanced all other romance books! I’m not going to recap the plot entirely, but if you like romantic books you’re going to love this one.
Short recap: Fran, the main character, doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do for a job, so she temps as an executive assistant. She’s engaged, but her relationship is stagnant. Fran gets a fabulous temp job working for a very famous person, and ends up alone in an amazing gown at the most exclusive party called the Crystal Ball. She has some unusual experiences, and meets all kinds of fascinating people including one extremely handsome and charming man.

The plot is a modern Cinderella retelling and well written, and the characters are so much fun, especially Fran. I’m sorry it had to end, and now I absolutely must find out what happens next. Lindsey Kelk, please write a sequel!

Very cute read!! I am such a sucker for when the main couple has a connection the moment they see each other!! I loved Evan and Fran, I thought they were great together, and I feel like they would be positive influences on each other and make each other better. I wish there was an epilogue so we could see how their relationship progressed (I like to think that they are very happy together).

I felt like it took too long to get to the Ball. After reading the description of the book I was most excited for Fran to meet Evan but it took awhile to get there. I liked Juliette's arc a lot, I just wanted to give her a hug at the end.

I really enjoyed One in A Million by Lindsey Kelk so I was very excited to pick up this title too.

Really fun spin on Cinderella! It was over the top, and unrealistic of course...but still fun! Loved the personal assistant plot line, and I was really curious how'd it work out that she'd end up at the Ball. The first part of the book is solid, but it sort of fell flat for me in the 4th quarter. I think it's because it starts off so big, with her new job on a yacht and a grand celebrity Ball, and then the ending is sort of more 'real life'. The PA plotline ended perfectly, in my opinion, it was the rest of it that was lackluster to me. Regardless, I devoured this in basically one sitting, and I think it'd make a great movie.
