"At the center of the world there stands a tree."

And with that quote near the beginning of this gorgeous, informative book, tree lovers like me know what kind of treat they're in for. Tree worship, tree lore, tree future and past. Both inspirational and full of wisdom, I know what book I'll be ordering to replace some older coffee table books. But as captivating as the stories are, the pictures make a jaw drop, a heart stop for a beat, true to the reputation of National Geographic books.

Thank you for digital portions of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you netgalley for letting me to read and review a short look at this book. It looks beautiful and interesting, but I only got to read a handful of pages. I can't wait to read more. Trees are so wonderful and magnificent. Will rank higher probably, after I get to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and National Geographic for a sample of Into the Forest.
The book features stunning photographs of trees, there's also some interesting quotes and informative text about trees.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot I can say about this book because the sample I received was only 9 pages long (out of 350).
That's pretty much the only reason for my low rating.

I received a sample of this primarily photo book from National Geographic via Netgalley. I loved the imagery in this book and the text was interesting as well. I would have loved more than this small sample.

The review pages on offer reveal this book as a high quality blend of immersive photographs and short descriptive texts. It will be easy to digest and understand in short bouts of reading. There were only a few pages offered through the review copy, so I cannot speak to its comprehensiveness.

Outdoors and Nature

This is another wonderful piece from National Geographic. The photos alone are worth buying the book. The author goes into facts about the tree, earth, water, air, fire and forest which gives it a bit of a science lecture feel. Touching on biology and ecology and even some mythology which I loved. I appreciated how factual this book was. You can learn from reading this book at all ages. Great for the nature lover or someone wanting to learn more about the outside world. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this!

Beautifully photographed book about the often overlooked tree. I am fascinated by the Pando in Utah. Anxious to read the entire book..

This book is the perfect antidote to cabin fever and seasonal affective disorder. It artfully combines science and poetic quotations about spending time in the woods with beautiful nature photography. (The macro photography of tree cells and rings is particularly lovely.) While reading it is informative, it’s also incredibly relaxing, Perhaps I just love trees? If you love trees as well, then read this on a one of those interminably long winter nights and know that spring, sunlight, and green growth are right around the corner.

Breathtaking photography and easy to read short, informative pages that pull you in make this a perfect coffee table book to spark conversations. I enjoyed the references to ecology, biology, and mythology. Images and reading passages flow very well as you journey into this forest of knowledge. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read an advanced section of this text.

*I received an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion via Netgalley.com. Review is not as high as it might be due to it being a sample of the book.

This is another beautiful sample from National Geographic. I love the photos, was interested in the facts, and want to read more. This book would be beneficial even for the youngest children (with supervision in order to keep them from destroying it) due to the photos that are included in the book. Just exploring nature is a wonderful thing for all of humanity to do and I think this book would be excellent for all ages to explore the nature that is in our backyards. Trees are a big part of our world and our lives, understanding the way that we interact with them and the ways that the forests impact us is important for our future.

While I expected there to be much more to this book, the information provided was interesting and the photos breathtaking. I simply wish there was much more of both.

I would absolutely use this book in my science classroom. The photos are breath taking and immerse you into the world of trees. The text is informative but not long winded. I could see my students drawn in by the beautiful imagery and fascinated by the text. The fact that it is not overly wordy will keep it accessible to my middle level students.

Into the Forrest is a great resource for nature-, and more specifically, forest-lovers.
The information included is very interesting, without diving into great details. It's a great way to spark interest into the reader about how amazing and interesting forests are, or a great way to expand your current knowledge. Bundled with gorgeous photos, this book would make a great addition to your collection if you like this type of media.
I recommend checking out this book and considering it as a gift, especially to younger people - we need to keep the love for nature alive and this book can be a great way to spark it.

*Thanks to NetGalley and National Geographic for providing me with an free review sample of this title in exchange for an honest review.*

Not Enough to Review

When I choose books at NetGalley, I typically do so on my laptop, which only shows a small part of the book’s page. Unfortunately for this one, I didn't scroll down to see that this would only be a sample of the book. As a highly ranked Amazon reviewer (top 25 at the point of this writing), a general rule of mine is to never review a partial book. I need to see and read all of a book to be able to confidently review it. Many people follow my reviews, and I don't want to disappoint them with an inaccurate review based on a small portion of a book.

This book's sample was only 16 “pages” out of an over-350-page full book—and six of those pages were the front cover, the table of contents, a section splash page, and the back cover! Seriously, how does the publisher expect me or any reviewer to give a decent review of a book giving us so little content—10 pages! Even if the book is 350 pages, not more, that makes the percentage roughly 2%. That is certainly not enough to truly judge a book, especially one depending so much on photos. If you are reading the reviews here because you hope to learn what other people think about the book before you buy it, remember that all the reviewers here only saw 2% of the book; personally, I wouldn't trust book reviews based on so little. Because my policy is not to review samples, I will not be sharing any sort of review on Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub, Kobo, Google Play, or any other bookseller/book fansite as I typically would. I am just going to do so here to fulfill my review obligation.

I liked this book’s 10 content pages. The few photographs of trees (a single tree, stands of trees, and a microscopic look at a tree’s rings) were stunningly beautiful. The sample pages were not too text heavy, but instead, focused on the photos. The little bit of text that went along with them was fascinating, though. If they had given me the full book to review to make sure the quality standard was consistent throughout the book, I would have given it the highest rating. Instead, I am giving it a rating that equals the percentage of the book I received.

If I ever see a National Geographic book on NetGalley that interests me, I will certainly scroll down to see if it is only a sample or a full book. I will give a hard pass on the former and only consider the latter!

This was quite thin to offer a proper review. The few photographs included were good, as was the educational material. I would definitely be interested in reading the full version when published.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. If you like trees or just nature in general this coffee table type book would be a great addition to your collection.

Ever since I visited Muir Woods 30 years ago, I have been intrigued by the life of trees. I have visited some National parks to see their beauty but I love just looking into my back yard to see 50-100 year old trees. This book taught me a thing or two about the life of a tree.
