A terrific book for the Halloween season. The book involves a witch who is involved in the paranormal.

Spooky and fun.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.

Wonderful book, it was very interesting indeed.

While I enjoyed this book I felt it was a little long. The romance was okay but what I really appreciated was the female characters supporting one another

I am so glad there is a growing trend with older female main characters. A woman with life experience has so much depth and knows the priorities in life.

As I grow older myself I no longer identify with the characters in Young/new adult. I still enjoy them but there is something about someone mature still being able to kick ass, have a romantic interest and children that appeals to me.

I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Eastside Hedge Witch: A Paranormal Women's Fiction by T. J. Deschamps in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It can be tedious to read books about teenagers and the adults are periphery. I enjoyed those as a kid, but as a 42 year old woman, it is refreshing to find books with main characters my age. I liked Miriam and her daughter Jada and all the other characters in the book. I really enjoyed the storyline and how much development there was in just one book. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Interesting story about a widow who is navigating life raising her teenaged daughter, while trying to stay one step ahead of her ex-boyfriend, who happens to be the King of Hell. When a hellhound appears in her neighbor’s garden, the magic she uses to banish the beast back to the Pit alerts not only demons and Lucifer, but also the Fae and a hot archangel. Miriam now has a lot more to deal with than what treats to bring to the next parent teacher association meeting.

The story moves at a decent pace and I enjoyed meeting all the characters and learning about the magical abilities they possess. I found Miriam easy to relate to and had a lot of empathy for her as she begins to learn about her past, a past that was kept from her in large part. I am curious how this will play out between her world, the Faerie and the underworld.

My Final Verdict: This story ends on a cliffhanger and is the first in a series, so it is far from over at the end of this book. Fans of urban fantasy stories and women’s fiction will enjoy this story.

This book is a Supernatural/Fantasy reader’s dream! There’s witches, shifters, fae, cryptids, and demi-gods (!) throughout the whole story. There are halflings, such as witch/fae and witch/demi-god. There’s also the Archangel’s and demon’s war intertwined into the story. I love that the female main character is not a weak minded, woe-is-me, simpering woman. There is also a bit of mystery woven in concerning the MC female.
I want to thank Netgalley, and BookBuzz.net, for allowing me to read this story. But most especially I want to thank the author, T.J. Deschamps, for writing this book.

A fun, light read and undemanding which was what I was in the mood for. Honestly I would have preferred it leant more into cosy mystery than PNR – I am really on the outs with PNR right now. But it’s my own damn fault for not reading the whole blurb! Anyway, this didn’t wow me but it was definitely a good example of the genre and readers looking for that blend of cosy mystery and PNR escapism will love it.

Miriam Diaz is a suburban single mom on Seattle’s Eastside for 17 years. She does all the things a mom does plus more. She bakes for her daughter’s cheerleading squad and serves on the PTA. She does her best to be boring and tries to forget her past. One morning Miriam sees a hellhound in which automatically gets rid of. Unfortunately she is watched by her 17 year old daughter Jada sees her do it. By doing what she did, she has brought herself to the attention of the sype (supernatural) community. Mariam must now disclose her past. She tells Jada she is a witch. Gabriel, a supernatural archangel/shifter in charge of the PNW supernatural committee realizes that Mariam is a witch — a powerful one. Gabriel surprised me as he attempts to woo her while helping her find her “roots” and tries to get her to be the representative for witches in the PNW supernatural community.
What will Mariam do? In her past she was with someone who was mean and abused her and had plans for her that ended up with her stealing something and faking her death so she would be free of him. Killing the bee hound was one way that if her past “beau” looked at who did that would give him a clue as where she was besides being alive. Will he come after her?

In this novel, I found Mariam fascinating as she was doing her best to raise her daughter and be true to herself. She hated her past as she felt used by everyone she knew. This is not a bloody or gruesome story. It actually made me laugh at times. The characters are well described and were life like to me. Mariam dilemmas were difficult as sometimes she was not sure what the best thing to do was. This is a first book of a new series. I am looking forward to reading the next volume.

What an enchanting story. Eastside Hedge Witch: A Paranormal Women's Fiction is just the picture combination of fantasy and suspense.

Who knew hiding could be so interesting.

Eastside Hedge Witch was so much fun to read! I love the mid-life soccer mom trope. An ordinary cookie baking mother hides out from hell until the Devil comes calling. She has to return to her old life, in secret, to save the world again. Well written and made me giggle. Great afternoon read.
Thanks NetGalley for providing this copy. The opinion in this review is solely my own.

Miriam is a widowed single mom raising a teenage daughter, who is a shifter. Miriam's husband was a demigod and attempted to protect Miriam but ultimately seemed to keep her in the dark about most everything. When circumstances bring out her identity as a powerful witch who has not practiced in some time, her world opens to the neighbors and community with whom she shares her life. The world building is excellent and expansive. The characters are multifaceted. I loved this book and am eager for more time in this world. I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received an arc copy and had low expectations. I was very happily surprised by how good this was. Eastside Hedge Witch is a REALLY good read!! The characters are very well written and likable. They each have a history and are flawed in really interesting ways but also evolve as the story unfolds. Miriam Diaz, our hero, has to discover her own history as it has been hidden from her and she needs to reclaim her witch power or all will be lost. She has a past abusive relationship in which is written in a non triggering way but which changes how she views herself and how she relates to others. The world building is fun and easy to understand. Even the two teens in the book are enjoyable. Supernatural beings, strong characters, sass and surprising evolution make for an enjoyable read. I can’t wait for book two. Team Gabriel

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. I am enjoying that there are now books that are for an older crowd. The main character is not 25. One odd thing is that you don't learn her name until chapter 4. I was like what's her name? For me, it was a bit convoluted and overwhelming at the beginning. You are thrown a lot of names and information quickly. But as you read and figure things out it gets super interesting. I enjoyed the read. 3.5 stars

Eastside Hedge Witch is the first installment in author T.J. Deschamps Midlife Supernaturals series. 42-year-old Miriam Diaz is a lone witch who has lived as a suburban mom on Seattle’s Eastside for the past seventeen years. She serves on the parent teacher association, bakes for her daughter’s cheer squad, and is an all-around champion stay-at-home mom. Pretty average and totally boring, and Miriam likes it that way. A witch likes to keep her secrets after all. But what happens when those secrets become dangerous to keep?

You see, years ago, Miriam escaped from Lucifer. She faked her own death, stole a library filled with powerful grimoire's that could literally destroy worlds, found love with a man, Rafael, who was a Orisha God, has a daughter, Jada, who is half witch, and have goddess, and able to shift into a panther, and once was Lucifer's Harbinger of the Apocalypse. Raf changed her name, and registered her as latent before he died and ascended. She has no idea who her own father was since her mother gave her to Lucifer who used Miriam as a play toy, and much more.

If her former coven finds out she's alive, they'll likely try to put her on trial and face possible execution. So you see, it's a good thing that Miriam kept her head down and pretended to be a normal. But when a hellhound shows up in her neighbor’s begonias, and Miriam banishes the stinky mutt back to where it came from, she receives unwanted attention from Gabriel who is the local archangel for the Angelic Anocracy. The Angelic Anocracy of the Pacific Northwest rules the supernatural community. This is a community of Nephilim, demi-gods, angels, fae, weres, and many more.

With Hell sending vampires and others to find Miriam, and Heaven at her doorstep, and a demon who helped her fake her own death telling her to run, Miriam must either flee the life she built or take a stand and come out of the supernatural closet. Enter Gabriel the Alpha male who has been on the outskirts of her life for a long time. He didn't intrude on her life when Raf was alive. Now that he's gone, Gabriel feels comfortable at pushing the limits in finding out if Miriam feels the same way.

Enter Phyr a Fae from her past who she forgotten but apparently grew up with and made a deal with. Phyr holds the keys to finding out who she really is, who her father is, and why there's a block on her memories. When he shows up, things really start to make sense, especially with the pixies in her garden acting like attendants and protecting her. Though most of the story takes place in the Pacific Northwest, there's part of the story that takes place in Fae where Miriam has to make choices whether to fully come out of the closet and tell the world who she is, or take her daughter and leave everyone behind.

This is the second book in a row that I've read where the character is in her 40's which is almost unheard of these days. I am appreciated that the author decided to write a book about Miriam's adventures. I would love to see what happens next, especially if Lucifer tries to regain control over Miriam, and whether or not her mother finds out what she's done. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles and hope that this issue resolves itself sooner, rather than later. Yes, you can fall in love with two people, but how much can your heart really take before it shatters and opens itself up to betrayal?

Twenty years ago, Miriam Diaz stole something that could win the war between Heaven and Hell, and has been hiding out in the Pacific Northwest ever since, posing as a mundane. Then one day, when she was out for her daily run, she came upon a hellhound in her neighborhood and she realized that the time had come to come out of the supernatural closet.
This is the first book in a new series, and it promises to be a fun one. Miriam will keep you laughing, and the book is full of every kind of supernatural being that you could possibly think of. I look forward to seeing where this series goes from here.
