This is my second Jeneva Rose book and she’s quickly becoming one of my faves! This particular read felt like a mix of Big Little Lies & Desperate Housewives. The story is told through multiple narrators, specifically a group of Atlanta housewives and the owner of the high end salon they frequent daily - the alternating points of view made this a super quick read. There’s lots of secrets, lots of drama, lots of money and a little bit of murder. We don’t find out who is dead until the very end, and I would say the last 25% FLEW by. I love Rose’s twisty endings and felt like this conclusion was is very satisfying.

Thank you @netgalley for the advanced copy!

What a deliciously wicked read! A novel set in the Tony Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. All the flashy wives descend on Jenny’s Glow Beauty Bar for their hair and makeup needs. Jenny knows all the dirt, and there’s a huge pile. Reading this was like watching a Bravo Channel franchise show.
Each chapter is told in alternating viewpoints and the secrets start piling up quickly. Nothing is like it seems and there are affairs and betrayals galore. I enjoyed reading all the delicious scenes unfold and how conniving and crafty the women were.
The ending was perfect, people deserved exactly whet they got.
If you like catty, bitchy, and spiteful women, this book is for you.

I really thought I was going to love this. The synopsis sounded great and it definitely gave me Big Little Lies vibes (which I loved), and while I did enjoy it, it did fall a little flat for me unfortunately.

I was really loving the beginning and really felt the catty bitchiness among the group of women we follow in the novel. They are almost all unlikable but that’s what I enjoyed about them. I also liked the switching back and forth, but would have liked to have seen a bit more in the present timeline. Those chapters were so short and I just wanted them to be a bit more fleshed out.

Towards the middle of the book, I was starting to lose interest a little. It felt a little repetitive and this took me out of the story somewhat.
The reveal did surprise me and while it wasn’t my favourite, I’m glad that I didn’t figure it out!

I do still definitely recommend this book so give it a go if the synopsis appeals to you!

One of Us is Dead is the fast-paced thriller you are going to want to read! This story follows a group of women who live in an elite suburb of Atlanta. One owns the most exclusive salon in town while the others are housewives. The lives of these women are made up of wealth, power and appearances. However, deep down they are all intertwined and full of dark secrets; so much so that one ends up dead. This book takes you quite a ride full of suspenseful twists. It keeps you guessing and will leave you completely surprised in the end!
I really enjoyed this one. I read it in one day and I truly couldn't figure out what happened, which is the mark of a great thriller! It is told from all the women's POVs which I really enjoyed. It helped understand each character. The author really went all out with these characters and nailed their personalities. I liked some of the women and some I truly couldn't stand. It makes you feel that you are right there in the story.
This is my first book my Jeneva Rose and I will be adding her others to my TBR! This book comes out in April so be looking for it!

Thank you to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for my advance reader copy!

Small town royalty, old and new money, frenemies, scandal, and.... murder! As many have already said, The Real Housewives meets Big Little Lies in this twisty thriller. In this story, we are introduced to Jenny, owner of the hottest salon in town, and 4 of her wealthy, elite clients. We all know that stylists always get the juicy gossip of the happenings in town from their clients. So, of course, Jenny would be the go-to to dish all of the tea when one of them winds up dead. I love a book that can keep me on my toes, and Jeneva Rose did just that with this novel. She had me hooked with multiple points of view and alternating timelines weaving through the events leading up to the murder. I read this book in one day because I just had to find out who died and who done it! I couldn't put it down and Rose kept me guessing up until the very last page. Talk about plot twists! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

“𝙱𝚞𝚌𝚔𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚠𝚊𝚜𝚗‘𝚝 𝚊 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚕𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚍. 𝙸𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚊 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚞𝚛𝚟𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚍.“

The latest read from Jeneva Rose is one I was eager to get my hands on. Although I haven’t yet read her very popular The Perfect Marriage, I have heard many good things. Unfortunately, although fast paced with short, easy to read chapters, this book was a huge disappointment for me. Marketed as a “mystery/thriller”, it reads more like chick-lit on steroids.

“𝚁𝚎𝚍 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚙𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛 𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚘𝚛, 𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚜𝚎𝚌𝚞𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚢 𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚔𝚎𝚝.“

Told in an alternating timeline through multiple POVs, we are introduced to the women of Buckhead, a wealthy suburb in Atlanta.

“𝙳𝚘𝚗‘𝚝 𝚕𝚎𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚖 𝚏𝚘𝚘𝚕 𝚢𝚘𝚞, 𝙳𝚎𝚝𝚎𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎. 𝙸𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚍𝚞𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢, 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢‘𝚛𝚎 𝚐𝚎𝚗𝚞𝚒𝚗𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚋𝚎 𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚍...𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚙𝚞𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚖 𝚒𝚗 𝚊 𝚛𝚘𝚘𝚖 𝚝𝚘𝚐𝚎𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛, 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚜𝚎 𝚠𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚗 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚍𝚘𝚠𝚗𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚝𝚘𝚡𝚒𝚌.“

Our story begins in present day with Jenny, salon owner and beautician to the who’s who of Buckhead. Someone has been murdered, that is clear. What is not clear is the who, the how, and the why until the very end of the book. And, what begins as a murder mystery, quickly devolves into a soap opera-like narrative replete with insufferable, unreliable narrators, predictable subject matter, and cheesy prose.
Even our so-called villain is so stereotypically “villainish”, steepled finger-tenting is included.

“𝙷𝚎 𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚒𝚗 𝚏𝚛𝚘𝚗𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚑𝚒𝚖, 𝚙𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚝𝚒𝚙𝚜 𝚘𝚏 𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚝𝚘𝚐𝚎𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛.“

After almost an entire novel full of heavy-handed, clunky foreshadowing, we finally get to the crux of the matter: the murder mystery. Unfortunately, here is where we begin to drown in reveals that are thrown at us one after the other in such quick succession they present as afterthoughts; forgotten and now shoved in where they no longer belong. By this time, we are so tired of these unlikeable characters that any of them as victim would be a welcome development.

If you have read One Of Us Is Dead and enjoyed it, please let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Wow this was a fun read. Yet again, I love Jeneva’s writing style. I find short chapters are particularly great in a thriller because it’s harder to put down and you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Although you don’t even know who died until close to the end, learning about these characters along the way is entertaining in itself. The drama, the secrets, the lies.. all spot on. Some characters will even surprise you in the end. Overall, I loved this!

One of Us Is Dead was so good I devoured it in a sitting. While it's technically Young Adult, it had enough complexities to keep me on my toes, flipping each page to figure out what makes each character tick. Set in the bougie town of Buckhead, just outside of Atlanta, One of Us Is Dead follows the drama of the local ladies and their partners. Who's telling the truth? Who did it? What exactly is it? You'll be busy piecing it together after each chapter. Think: Real Housewives of Buckhead... meets murder.

Jeneva Rose’s new book One of Us Is Dead is another book you must read if you love fast-paced murder mysteries! This was a super fun, super quick read. The author is a fantastic story-teller, I will read anything she writes.

SYNOPSIS:

Meet the women of Buckhead—a place of expensive cars, huge houses, and competitive friendships.

Shannon was once the queen bee of Buckhead. But she’s been unceremoniously dumped by Bryce, her politician husband. When Bryce replaces her with a much younger woman, Shannon sets out to take revenge …

Crystal has stepped into Shannon’s old shoes. A young, innocent Texan girl, she simply has no idea what she’s up against …

Olivia has waited years to take Shannon’s crown as the unofficial queen of Buckhead. Finally, her moment has come. But to take her rightful place, she will need to use every backstabbing, manipulative, underhand trick in the book …

Jenny owns Glow, the most exclusive salon in town. Jenny knows all her clients’ secrets and darkest desires. But will she ever tell?

Who amongst these women will be clever enough to survive Buckhead—and who will wind up dead? They say that friendships can be complex, but no one said it could ever be this deadly.

(4.5 stars rounded up to 5 on here!)

Thank you NetGalley, Blackstone Publishing, and Jeneva Rose for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Oh my gosh. Where to even begin with this review! This book was like watching the real wives of Hollywood but add in some killings! I wanted to grab some popcorn and wine because it just felt like a movie and was so addicting to read! Rose has such a talent with writing and just creates such a suspenseful atmosphere. I pretty much flew through this book because it was such a fun read. Give me a book about spoiled, bratty, catty, passive aggressive women any day.

I also love how Rose wrote the book from different characters points of views and the different time lines. It gave you enough to know what the storyline was leading up to, but not enough to give anything away! Ugh and then the twist at the end was not suspected at all! Overall, I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read more of her novels!

This review will be posted to my Instagram blog (read_betweenthecovers) in the near future!

What can I say this books would have you on your tip toes from the moment you begin reading it! While each page is making you want to continue through it, you would meet characters you grow to love, the ones you hate and in the event of it all you learn about a murder.
The murder you say? Well, you don’t really know much about it until you continue flipping through the pages. All I know and what I can easily tell you is that you while you learning and uncovering you might think you know who did it but you would be surprised cause I was.
This takes place is Buckhead, a very wealthy town near Atlanta. There you will meet Jenny the owner of a beauty salon where the other ladies you meet make as their hangout. Then we meet the wives: Shannon, Olivia, Karen and the new girl in town Crystal.
I will let you know this is filled with drama and lots of it coming from every corner.
This was a first one for me as we get the point of view of all five ladies and within those we learn their own secrets. We even get a look into present time during the interrogation.
Who of them will be the one murdered? Only one way to find out,

I usually read murder mysteries, and typically prefer the body to pop up at the start of the book. But in ONE OF US IS DEAD by Jeneva Rose, the murder doesn't happen until nearly the end . . . and I loved it. You spend the entire book learning the backstory, and so instead of trying to guess the killer, you're trying to guess the victim.

ONE OF US IS DEAD is for readers who like:

- multiple POVs
- gossip, revenge, drama
- Real Housewives with a splash of Dexter

The writing is simplistic, and I found parts of the story predictable, but overall this was a fun "popcorn" mystery/thriller.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC. I have posted my review on Goodreads and will be sharing it on Instagram and Amazon closer to the pub date.

I loved this book so much! I didn’t really know what I expected going in, but it definitely delivered. 🙌🏼 One of Us is Dead follows the lives of rich, privileged, catty women. These women love their wine, but not one another. I loved the multiple POVs from all the wives, but especially Jenny, the hairstylist.

This is without a doubt a five star read and Jeneva Rose has a solid spot as one of my favorite authors now. Can’t wait to read more of her books!

Honestly I was so excited for this book and it just fell flat compared to The Perfect Marriage. I sadly didn’t connect either the characters and I think that clouded the experience for me.

WOW! One of Us is Dead is one of those books I could not put down until the very end. Then, I could not wait to read more.

Very well written this thriller suspenseful novel has all of the elements to make it a winner in my book.

Desperate Housewives meets Mean Girls in this fast-paced thriller.

This book was just fun to read. You have your basics for a quick, engaging read, characters you HATE, characters you root for, a reveal that someone has been murdered, and the satisfying(ish?) revelation.

Welcome to Buckhead, a wealthy town north of Atlanta, Georgia. We are first introduced to Jenny and her beauty salon, a local hangout for the housewives. We are slowly introduced to the wives: Shannon, Olivia, Karen, and the newest in town Crystal (Shannon’s ex-husband’s new white). There’s so much cattiness and drama, but on top of this, we learn that one of these women does not survive.

Told from the perspectives of the five women mentioned above, we learn about the days leading up to the murder and we also get little glimpses of the interrogation post-murder. It’s exciting to not only try to figure out who the killer is, but also who is the person to not survive. The ending had me shook!

Described as Mean Girls meets Desperate Housewives, One Of Us Is Dead is a thriller about a group of women who may or may not be friends but socialize and hang in the same social circles. This includes the beauty salon named Glow. A salon is a great place to share and hear gossip. When Shannon's husband leaves her for a much younger woman things get a little crazy. And as the title says, one of them won't make it.

I was very excited to read this but I didn't get much excitement while reading for quite a while. It didn't read as a thriller because there wasn't anything thrilling happening. There was a lot of outrageous behavior that was fun to watch but when that wasn't happening the story was flat. The writing was direct but uninteresting.

We get chapters from each woman's point of view which I thought was nice. I liked reading Shannon and Crystal's the most. They were actually my favorite characters. Everyone else was either bland or over the top like Olivia. I know she was supposed to be but the way she was portrayed wasn't shocking. She didn't seem like a real person.

There was some excitement at the end and I liked the direction Crystal and Shannon's relationship took. I didn't care for the twist though and don't think it was needed. It was a quick read with short chapters.

I went into this book blind, and I am so glad that I did. I really enjoyed it. The story is in several POV and it mainly focuses on Jenny. Some of the women are catty, and stuck up and there were a few that I didn’t like at all. The story goes between the present and a few weeks before a murder. We as the reader don’t know who is dead. I was hooked from the very first page, and finished it very fast. I had to know what was going on. What were the secrets? Who died? The ending got me really good. I didn’t expect it. I enjoy a good twist! I want to read more from the author!

I usually love housewife style thrillers but unfortunately this one wasn't for me. This was a quick and easy read so I breezed through it but I felt the characters severely lacked any depth which made it hard for me to connect with the story. The writing style also felt very repetitive and somewhat simplistic? I felt the author kept telling us things rather than having the plot develop on it's own. As a plus, there is plenty of backstabbing, drama and twists and turns in this book!

I've heard wonderful things about this author so I look forward to trying another one of her books! Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a review.
