I should have trusted my gut and not volunteered to read and review a Wattpad book. This book is for some, but not for me. I am not a watt pad reader. I love my steamy romances, but I need a plot. I need emotion. I need a tragic backstory. Not just sex scenes.

This was rough and a DNF for me. There was barely a plot, an unrealistic pairing and just felt like too much like a sex writing exercise vs a romance novel.

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the eARC!

Out of His League is a short romance centered around Gretchen Harper, a huge baseball fan, and Joshua Malvern, a professional baseball player. Gretchen is a huge fan of Joshua, who plays on her favourite team, and doesn't believe it when she gets a chance to meet him in an airport! What follows is a one night stand that quickly turns into something more.

The premise for this book is really cute, and I was looking forward to reading this one. Unfortunately it didn't quite hit the mark, and I personally give it a 2 stars. I am not a big fan of insta-love, and that occurred heavily in this book. There was a point where Gretchen says how she didn't know Joshua hated blueberries and can't wait to find out more about him, and I was reminded of how little they knew about the other while somehow being madly in love. If you are a fan of insta-love or quick romances, this book might have more appeal to you than it did to me.

The conflict brought up in the book seemed to only be there as a way to make the book more than just the sex scenes, and I didn't feel a connection or any concern towards the plotline. I did like the baseball references and the author seems like she knows her stuff; I can imagine this being an even better read for someone who likes baseball.

Nice to have the Toronto mentions! Overall this was a quick and easy read; pretty cute, just quite rushed. Also very predictable, but this could be a good book for if you're looking for something light!

I dnf'd this at around twenty percent. I really dont like insta-love. The only time I think it's forgivable is when it's a short story and the the two main characters have chemistry. And while this book was short, it wasn't short enough to justify it to me and the characters had zero chemistry. There was no reason for them to want to be together so quickly.

This book had great promise, but there are missing elements. I think it deserves a rewrite to truly fulfill its potential!

2.5/5

okay if you like insta-love then here's a book for you. as someone who really doesn't enjoy that trope, i didn't really enjoy this book. the book was only 250 pages so it definitely relied on the meet cute which was perfectly fine but the rest of the story was sadly lackluster, i wanted gretchen and josh to have more chemistry or just a more believable relationship. it just feels like the relationship was very surface level and i couldn't see past that.

overall this one wasn't a favorite for me. if insta-love is something you really like, this book is probably for you. i do wish i liked it more because sports romance books are basically my favorite things on the planet but it just felt like something was missing.

A quick, delightful read with lots of “bedroom” time! There’s isn’t much of a plot besides the two falling in a love and there’s an instalove vibe going on, but I’m a sucker for sports romances!

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad Books for an advanced copy!

I really enjoyed Out of His League. The book follows Gretchen who is away at a wine competition, when she meets Joshua her favourite baseball player. The first encounter was very must an insta-love which is stated to be very out of character of them book. Although it seemed quite unbelievable at the time, it still gave me all the love vibes I look for in a book like this. Obviously, I knew there would be some sort of misunderstanding that would drive them apart, as is standard in these stories, but I do wish it was a bit more of a believable of a scenario, however it wasn’t enough of a bother to change my feeling on this book. It was a quick, fun, cute book that had me not wanting to put it down.
Thank you Netgalley and Wattpad Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was definitely cute, and the first half of the story flew by for me. There is definitely insta-love but I appreciated the characters evaluating their feelings.

The things that didn’t work for me were the main conflict and the side stories. The conflict that drove them apart felt a little too abrupt. The side stories felt a little like filler at the end, instead of using that space to develop the main characters and add depth.

Overall, it was a very steamy and cute romance.

Hello, new book boyfriend!

To say I loved this book is an understatement!

No, seriously. This book is everything a little rom-com book should be. The story was so cute and sweet. I typically do not like books that feature anything sports related, but this one was done so perfectly. The chemistry between the two main characters was great and it had such a stellar list of supporting characters. I absolutely adored it from beginning to end.

I wish I loved this book. I absolutely adore sports romances but this did not do it for me. Unfortunately I dnf'd. The insta love and miscommunication is what really did it for me. It just does not seem realistic to me. But job well down getting her wattpad book published! That is an amazing accomplishment!

This was a good, quick book for anyone who just needs a dose of romance! Gretchen and Josh had really good chemistry and their love story was super believable! I also liked how the side characters added to the plot, though I felt like there was something missing when it came to the Harvey storyline. Also, I want a second book about Sharla!
Overall, it was a fun, quick read!

Gretchen Harper meets her favorite MLB baseball player, Josh Malvern, at the airport when he is having an awful day. He has just gotten sent down to the minors and is beginning to contemplate life after baseball.
After about 5 minutes, they determine they are soul mates who can't live without each other. I really think they were in bed by page 10.
I just found it to be silly, far reaching and kind of dumb. I didn't get their chemistry and the depth of their emotional attachment. I kept wanting to shout, "YOU DON"T EVEN KNOW EACH OTHER!" I feel sure MLB players have these opportunities quite often. I find it hard to believe he was blown away (literally) by this one groupie. I felt like I had skipped where the groundwork for the relationship happened.... when his teammates were saying, "She is the one" and his agent was worried that he had met the woman he would leave his career and quit baseball for. It all seemed shallow, immature and kind of weird instead of romantic. Honestly, I started rolling my eyes and thinking, "Here we go. Yet another cringey sex scene."
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this one. I am so sorry that it wasn't for me.

This was a cute sports romance and I absolutely loved the cover! They have an instant connection on what should have been a quick trip and neither wants their time to end. Would recommend!

The premise and cover were cute, but this book need an editor. I really wanted to like this book but there were too many issues. The writing was very choppy and the sudden POV switches were difficult to follow. Gretchen and Josh felt flat, and I was much more interested in the side characters. This book has insta-love and good spicy scenes. The spicy scenes were actually done well.

Read this if you like: Instalove, dual POV, sports romances, spicy scenes 🔥

Gretchen Harper has always been practical. Dependable, solid, predictable. She's a sommelier on her way to Vegas for a wine competition when she decides to take a risk. She buys coffee for gorgeous professional athlete in an airport.

Being sent to the minor league is just the first of Joshua Malvern’s many worries. He’s got an injury that won’t heal and his entire career and future are on the line. When a beautiful woman offers him coffee, that simple kindness is exactly what he needs to lift him out of his funk. He asks her to join him in first class, not expecting to end up joining her in bed. What starts as a one night stand ends up holding the promise for so much more.

Instalove isn't my favorite. It's just too rushed. The character development on Gretchen was good. Joshua needed more, in my opinion. The spice was great. The conversations and relationship building were lacking. Miscommunication tropes are awful. Just TALK. It was good, fast read, but could have been better.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author Caroline Richardson, and Wattpad for the ARC! ❤

1.5 stars

I began reading this book since it mentioned Toronto, and I'm a sucker for cute covers but after the coffee scene, which was the only adorable part. It felt like everything went downhill. I wasn't aware that the book has the instant-love trope, which made me want to DNF that instant, but I pushed myself and continued. Another was the sudden changes of povs which I usually love but were scattered all over the place and not very organized, leaving you confused. Later, I regretted that because things like "she growled" or "purred" came out, which was my breaking point. I skimmed the rest 100 since the book was only 250 pages long. Also, there was an incredulous amount of smut which I'm also not the biggest fan of, and they did "it" literally a few hours after they met, which went me going, huh!? The only other somewhat cute part I could think of was the coffee scene when the male lead said, "She's worth every damned bit much of my career, Harv." Since I was expecting a bit more due to the cover and synopsis, I was sad I was let down.

This book was exactly what I wanted out of a Friday night read! A very quick read (I finished it in one evening), that immediately drew you in with the chemistry between Gretchen, a sommelier who normally is a very practical girl, and Josh, a professional baseball player who has come to a tough spot in his career. When they happen to be on the same flight to Vegas, sparks fly and both of their worlds are suddenly rocked by the other. Overall, I enjoyed the way the story played out between Gretchen and Josh. There were some parts that I wish would have been more fleshed out (such as Travis’s plot line, and why Josh was so untrusting), but I did not go into this read expecting a deep plot so I was not bothered by it. There are some definite spicy scenes, so if you prefer closed door romances this book may not be for you. I hope to see a sequel to this book starring Gretchen’s BFF Sharla. If you’re looking for a fun weekend or beach read this is a great choice!

DNFed at about 20%, my fault for requesting this book without reading the full synopsis and basically just loving the cover.

It’s not that I’m not a fan of instalove but this was a little too much for me. The formatting of the ARC I received was giving me a headache with how it was spaced out so that’s another negative, just not at the book itself.

Thank you to Wattpad Books and NetGalley for the gifted copy for my review.
